I wouldn't say its about the dark side, its more like the hidden side, or duality. I’d like to mention that the lyrics are also beautifully written and describes the story’s heartbreaks perfectly. Yoasobi’s song writing is just genius
YOASOBI takes inspiration on stories in order to write and compose their songs. They were tasked with the opening for this show and the different element of the story are portrayed in the music and visually reinforced in the Music Video. The story revolves around Idols in the entertainment industry in both it light and dark sides, clearly portrayed in the video with the two versions of the main character for the initial arc of the story: Ai Hoshino, a 16 year old Idol who turns out to be pregnant with twins. We get to see how she tries to get back to her work keeping her babies a secret and we are shown how fast and unexpected things can go in the show business. All of this is shown in the Music Video and also reflected in the music: far from being a high energy, happy Idol style of song, it's a vertiginous J-Pop song with a high beat, happy and cheerful sections, slow sections and a clearly dark, slow and contrasting section around the middle in which we can feel and are shown a very overwhelming and inwardly aggressive emotion. If we pay attention to the lyrics, they sound generally happy and cheerful throughout the song, but even at their highest points, their message still holds an unexpectedly dark/sad undertone: "What did you eat today? What's your favorite book? What do you do in your free time?", which is answered right away with "I haven't anything today. It's a secret, unknown. Any questions alway answering so vaguely". Just in the first few verses we have been shown how media tries to find out about celebrities and that they keep their privacy and how they often have to have detrimental behaviors (skipping meals and such) in order to maintain a public image. Through the song we are told that the love that Ai Hoshino professes is a lie, and through the song we are told "Lies are the greatest kind of love", all the while keeping a cheery and happy beat. It all comes to a closure at the end, when we are show visually that Ai reaches for her children, now grown and says: "This is not a lie: I love you!", which she had been afraid of saying to her own children out of it possibly being insincere, but as we learn at the end of the first episode, she manges to finally say it, honestly and be satisfied that she achieved to properly love without lies. All of this is conveyed throughout the song, via lyrics and the music arrangements and the message doubly driven home with the visuals of the video. It's one of their most intensely and cram-packed songs but done so masterfully that, the final product has become as popular as it is. If the idea was to introduce the audience to a compete feeling to what the story is about, with all of its emotional turns and twists, and portraying both sides of the industry, YOASOBI were the only ones who could deliver such complete and well rounded work. It's been sad that singing the song is like a sprint and that in order to sing it properly one should have perfect breathing control, because otherwise it's really difficult to keep the momentum. But it's necessary in order to fully convey all the nuances of the story in the space of the song. The most mystifying part of the song is the choir singing at the beginning and the end, since it's a very distinct religious sound, which has two reasons: 1) There a super natural element to the story and 2) there's a mystery awaiting to be unveiled. And those two components have been represented with the choir going: "Oh my Savior!, My True Savior!, My Saving Grace!". Which again, it's a super well done to include it as a contrasting element in the song.

Yes!!! I finished the anime yesterday and seriously didn’t skip the opening not a single time. It’s such a banger, idk how to describe it but it’s just super awesome. For me it’s perfect, and innovative!!
@@amosbatalden5871 I mean personally, there's plenty of music I like that doesn't light up my brain the same way. The only way I can describe it is if you had 4 ears, but each ear can focus on one instrument. The reason why this music video has so many views is that many people are deeply shocked and moved when they see this music video after watching the first episode of the anime "Oshi no ko". If you watch this music video after watching the first episode, you will understand why the music is structured this way, why the visuals are designed this way, and why the lyrics are the way they are. You will be shocked and moved and have a completely different reaction. We are looking forward to seeing your reactions to the English version of the MV after watching episode 1 of the anime. The incredible aspect of this seemingly unnatural English translation is that it not only aligns with the sounds of the Japanese language but also with the meaning of the story. Furthermore, after listening to the Japanese version several times, when you listen to the English version, there are parts where it sounds like Japanese despite being in English. This part of the lyrics sounds Japanese for some reason. ENG"That emotion melts"=JPN"daremoga mewo". ENG"Completely deny"=JPN"kanpekijanai"
daremo ga me wo ubawarete iku (誰もが目を奪われていく) translates to "everyone's eyes are captivated". kanpeki janai (完璧じゃない)translates to "not perfect". (literally: perfect, is not.)
The first part is great but the Japanese part is misleading, it sounds like you're saying they translate to the same thing. They almost certainly just fit the English version to the Japanese version so the same flow would work.
Honestly the music is so stunning and hooking that I never needed the first episode to hook me to the show. The opening did that for me. I don’t watch the opening every episode for any other reason besides the fact that I like it. Also i already forgot what you said as im typing this so this is just me saying my opinion and not trying to argue. But there are bound to be music addicts like me.
@@Aria_Dragonneel The comment is just saying that the op hits different after youve seen the first episode which is true bc u now have the context behind the lyrics. I know I cried listening to the op several times after wathing ep1. It doesnt mean the op isnt amazing on its own anyway bc it def is.

You actually took a lot of time and effort breaking the song down in real time and your explanation is really easy to follow and understand, you earned my sub 👍
Yoasobi song are always so insane lol., also little detail: Hoi in the pre chorus part is actually a prominent thing in otaku culture where when cheering for their idol they would say exactly that, “HOI”
As a person looking to get into music production, seeing him being able to play out the chords exactly based of hearing it for the first time shocked me. That guy is machine.
as a pianist that has been obsessed with jpop songs for the past year or so (stan vocaloid.), yoasobi has always been my favorite artist along with kikuo, and hearing this after i’ve started learning theory has been really informative and really cool as well as a huge anime fan. thank you for teaching us!!
You should listen to the ED song of Oshi no Ko, Mephisto / メフィスト by QUEEN BEE, they have a "First Take" of it which is just magical. The singer is a woman btw, but I LOVE the violins and the harmonies and the voice register changes in it. It doesn't seem like much imo until you get to the chorus.
YOASOBI lately is quite the Japanese genius duo when it comes to anime openings. Not only do they weave genres together excellently, the lyrics and animation of their productions also reveal story parts and motives of the subject of their productions. Shukufuku/The Blessing used for Gundam: The Witch of Mercury is another one of such masterpieces, although it's a whole lot less overwhelming than Idol when listening to it for the first time.
You’re one of the realest musicians to react to music, you’re truly insightful! It’s been years (ever since my music theory professor) that I’ve gotten to hear such a knowledgeable musical breakdown. It gives me life.
It's "you're my savior, my true savior, my saving grace", and it alludes to the divine pedestal that fans put the idols on (reeeeally tied to the story, in fact! It's amazing, super recommend)
This video is so awesome because it is a genius showing how frickin genius Yoasobi is in making their music! I am so glad to see their music and genius being so greatly appreciated here.
YOUR REACTIONS WERE SO COOL I wish I knew music theory as much as you do because I already knew Yoasobi and their Idol song but I had no idea about the theory behind it!! I hope you Can react to other Yoasobi music, Ayase (the producer of the duo) is just so talented coming from the vocaloid industry. This song is so catchy and entertaining yet Ikura’s (the singer) songwriting is deep as well. And it fits perfectly with the anime, watch it too!
You should definitely check out the ending for this anime, Mephisto by Queen Bee. Another great piece of music very befitting of the caliber of this show
12:17 If you're planning to watch oshi no ko, for the first episode I recommend bringing a big box of tissues and finding a particularly damp and dark corner to potentially maybe cry in, otherwise have fun.
I watched oshi no ko,I want to eat your pancreas and many sad animes but I didn't shed a year that doesn't mean I don't have emotions I feel sad when I watch them but Yeah....
Oh wow this is really in depth and very easy to follow explaination! I like that you point out similar notes in western pop song for easy reference, very informative and like learning a fun fact!
It's a show that goes deep into the dark truth of the Japanese entertainment industry and yes it has some murder mystery aspect in it with some slice of life and maybe a hint of reincarnation if you may
Don't know if you'd like to do more Japanese music, but definitely give Ado a listen! Fleeting Lullaby and Tot Musica are constantly being replayed on my spotify
I really like how you play the musical instruments while talking about the song, also giving us the knowledge about the music while giving the example from another song to compare.
Yes. Love this song! Oshi No Ko, is about the dark side of the performance industry (acting/modeling/idols) and how the main characters,Ai and her twins, live(except Ai who was killed) in that world trying to find their happiness. Thats the best I could figure out.
@@HenriqueRJchikiunfortunately this video is NOT about Oshi no ko and about idol, and that was the biggest plot twist in the anime and what makes u want to watch more
man, this song was already so good for me but you were still able to make me feel like it got even better, your insights on the music truly made me appreciate it even more. you made this song heavenly for me man, thank you and you really deserve more subs!!!
I loved your analysis, just to remark that because of the pause maybe the key change in 10:30 passed unnoticed.(in the music video is at the 2:37) Nice video👌
11:01 I'm not good for music theory, but that harmony might narratively be explained by the point in the story of AI at this point and where aqua and ruby are left. Due to spoilers I wont say anything, but the changes in the song and the meanings behind certain motifs is really cool to see. and really clicked when you were saying stuff. like the not returning to 1 being narratively unsatisfying in a major key, buy being hopeful in a minor key. really cool stuff
You should react to more Japanese music i would recommend an artist called Eve since his instrumental and voice are just amazing Some should i would recommend are: Dramaturgy Tokyo Ghetto Raison D'etre Im sure you'll love them
Song is even better when you saw the first episode and understand the lyrics. So awsome and i think the song reflects the series perfect with it's constont change of atmosphere
I'm glad I was recommended this channel, I don't know the first thing about making music but it was actually interesting to see your opinion on it and it wasn't too overwhelming or boring to listen to you trying to explain what was going on during the song either.
If you plan on doing more Japanese songs reaction, I would like to recommend Eve. Eve has worked on a few anime openings before, but the versions that he uploads on his youtube channel have their own MV, the lyrics are just amazing and the songs themsleves are absolutely enchanting. Some suggestions: -Dramaturgy -How to eat life -Fight song -Outsider
Ive said this before ill say it again, this song is a masterwork in conveying the mixed bag of emotions this show brings out. the phrygian cords to the choir to some of the melodies she puts in is all to build tension, and the rest is a hyper pop beat , almost trying to mask the intensity of the background, which she lets slip every so often. just like the show, or the themes therein. after the first episode's ending there is this constant sense of dread and unease, like at any point in time it will hit the fan again. but just like the entertainment industry its being covered up with this wave of happy go lucky vibes. I listen to almost strictly metal so its awesome hearing how they are able to fit in some of the oldest metal tricks in the book to tell you this amazing story in song form

The show is definitely worth checking out, goes into the behind the scenes of the entertainment industry as well as having some great characterization, the first episode might be good to try
such a good show. listening to you break down the music like this makes me get a new appreciation for the song. its crazy how it mixes these genres and sounds so good and how you can actually hear it. for an average person (like me) you just think that the music sounds good but its crazy how you pick up on the minor details through the whole thing
Dude please do more stuff like this, I'd love to see you do a breakdown on other japanese artists (Eve, Ado, Official Higedandism to name a few). Keep up the good stuff 👍
i really love your analysis, especially the hidden instrumentals i didn't notice at first, the way you explain the music stuff makes me love this song even more
it must be so gratifying to the producers to see someone really sit down and study their song that they've put so much work into and to identify and celebrate such intracaies that are often just called "good" by the average listener
11:34 Ok i watched all of oshi no ko and then read all of the available manga, this popped up in my recommended months after that. This is the first time I've actually heard the full song, and Jesus fuck that 愛してる _hurts_
The beauty of this song lies in its dynamically shifting musical genre, tonality, and the brilliant interplay with the lyrics' themes. It's an impressively clever composition that, while subtle, is also strikingly prominent. For those who don't understand Japanese or haven't delved into the lyrics, the song primarily explores the darker aspects of the Japanese idol industry, bringing to light its contradictory nature. These performers, akin to the early stages of Britney Spears but on a more consumer-centric scale, are expected to "sell dreams" to their fans, creating an unusual blend of sexualization and purity. Essentially, they fabricate a certain kind of fantasy that fans can engage with. In a sense, these performers distribute deceptions to their audience. Beneath this carefully constructed facade, they earn a relatively minimal income and frequently experience overwork. The show goes much deeper into it but it's a pretty dark line of work if you think about some of the implications.
Hey! Just found you by chance, it’s always cool finding music producers reacting positively to non-western music! I would love to also see your reactions to Yorushika, one of my favorite musical duos as well alongside Yoasobi!
LSE: Can someone tell me what this anime’s about? Me: Would you like to know..? I mean honestly, would you? Cuz it’s a rabbit hole you ain’t coming back from.
The anime basically tells the dark side of the entertainment industry. And the story is based on the death of a certain idol. So basically revenge+ idol + comedy
It's great to be shown on the keyboard what you mean when you start using musical terms to fully explain the meaning your going for. It makes it a lot easier to understand what you mean when you talk about the different parts of the song.
Now watch the English official version, and live performance of this song... To resume, this story is about the entertainment industry, and also a psycho killer and paranormal vengeance involving reincarnation. But this particular song is about the first episode (which is 90min movie length) so i would suggest you at least watch this single "episode" before hearing the English version of the song, then you'll get it.
Just watch ep 1 of Oshi no Ko and then the English version of the song. That is all you need to understand the context. The song will Hit differently, though.
I really hope that you will respond to all the openings and endings of vinland saga. They are beautiful, different in sound and energy. The music in this anime is a masterpiece.
If the Yoasobi song is incredible, they made a spectacular song, it would also be nice if you see the ending of the anime, because in the MV they added some effects that didn't look good in my opinion, the 2-minute version is better for me, apart from having an animation, incredible, it's just cinema🎥The 2-minute version is available on the Oshi no ko anime's RUclips channel. Give it a try you won't regret it. Bye👋👋👋 Thanks for uploading idol
I suggest waiting to react to the English version until after watching/reacting to the first episode. The English lyrics have a stronger impact on English speakers after watching the initial episode.

7. i like how they just had to throw those crazy genre whiplash moments at the end and then the crazy piano run 😂
I Love how thourougly you breakdown Idol!! Finally someone acknoledging the genius behind J-Pop Instrumentals! If you're looking for other brilliant songsm I'd recommend:
Ado - Gira Gira
Ado - Odo
Ado - Readymade
Kenshi Yonezu - Kanden
Kenshi Yonezu - Kickback
Eve - Kaikai Kitan
Ado - Ussewa
Syudou - Gambling
Holy shit yes Kanden
@@gypsytronic You're a person of culture
Speaking of Ado, skipping her Ussewa cover is a big no. While at it, let's add Syudou who wrote the song to the list with his "Gambling"
omg ado usseewa s such a good song
truee we can add Ussewa and Gambling to the list, I just hope he actually reacts to those songs bc so far I haven’t seen any J-Pop reactions from him :(
You actually took a lot of time and effort breaking the song down in real time and your explanation is really easy to follow and understand, you earned my sub 👍
12:23 you definitely should! pretty much everything in this song symbolizes something from it
dude you explain music better than anyone i've heard. you make this stuff SO MUCH easier to understand.
YESSS. I've been INVESTED in this song for a while now! So cool to see your deep analysis of it!
Yoasobi always go crazy with these songs
as a pianist that has been obsessed with jpop songs for the past year or so
(stan vocaloid.), yoasobi has always been my favorite artist along with kikuo, and hearing this after i’ve started learning theory has been really informative and really cool as well as a huge anime fan. thank you for teaching us!!
I thought Queen bee is a guy
@@tachibanariinehe is gae
YOASOBI lately is quite the Japanese genius duo when it comes to anime openings. Not only do they weave genres together excellently, the lyrics and animation of their productions also reveal story parts and motives of the subject of their productions.
Shukufuku/The Blessing used for Gundam: The Witch of Mercury is another one of such masterpieces, although it's a whole lot less overwhelming than Idol when listening to it for the first time.
you should definitely do more anime and specifically yoasobi reactions and breakdowns!
You’re one of the realest musicians to react to music, you’re truly insightful! It’s been years (ever since my music theory professor) that I’ve gotten to hear such a knowledgeable musical breakdown. It gives me life.
the song went from anime opening to prayer real freaking quick (the choir sings "Lord my Saviour, my true Saviour, my saving grace")
that's cool
It's "you're my savior, my true savior, my saving grace", and it alludes to the divine pedestal that fans put the idols on (reeeeally tied to the story, in fact! It's amazing, super recommend)
between the genius behind the production of this song, the plot of the anime and how it relates to the opening, it is impossible not to cry..
The song completely changes when you watch the first episode and when you know the lyrics
Especially the last line…😭
This video is so awesome because it is a genius showing how frickin genius Yoasobi is in making their music! I am so glad to see their music and genius being so greatly appreciated here.
YOUR REACTIONS WERE SO COOL
I wish I knew music theory as much as you do because I already knew Yoasobi and their Idol song but I had no idea about the theory behind it!!
Another great piece of music very befitting of the caliber of this show
I am so happy that yaosobi are finally doing good they have been so good for a while now.
Yaosobi are legendary man they're so good, I'm not even a pop fan and love their songs
The opening of Oshi No Ko that starts with THAT BEAT is what makes it SO GOOD
12:17 If you're planning to watch oshi no ko, for the first episode I recommend bringing a big box of tissues and finding a particularly damp and dark corner to potentially maybe cry in, otherwise have fun.
It's a show that goes deep into the dark truth of the Japanese entertainment industry and yes it has some murder mystery aspect in it with some slice of life and maybe a hint of reincarnation if you may
I haven’t caught any anime in a while and this track was such a treat! Thanks for the breakdown!
That "Heads Will Roll" connection is one I missed initially and I'm here for it. Such a great pull
Don't know if you'd like to do more Japanese music, but definitely give Ado a listen! Fleeting Lullaby and Tot Musica are constantly being replayed on my spotify
ruclips.net/video/YGx5fcgEuwA/видео.html
for me missing and freedom are constantly replayed ❤️
Ado is one of my favorites!
Yoasobi always good. Never a miss. Literally have listened to all their music on repeat for hours and not gotten bored.
I really like how you play the musical instruments while talking about the song, also giving us the knowledge about the music while giving the example from another song to compare.
I love when someone who appreciate music listens to a song I like, this is awesome
Yes. Love this song! Oshi No Ko, is about the dark side of the performance industry (acting/modeling/idols) and how the main characters,Ai and her twins, live(except Ai who was killed) in that world trying to find their happiness. Thats the best I could figure out.
You might want to edit this to remove that spoiler.
@@Cruznick06its not really a spoiler because that is what the anime is about
@@Cruznick06literally the first episode man lmao
@@HenriqueRJchikiunfortunately this video is NOT about Oshi no ko and about idol, and that was the biggest plot twist in the anime and what makes u want to watch more
@@HenriqueRJchikithe first episode is literally the hook, its a spoiler
man, this song was already so good for me but you were still able to make me feel like it got even better, your insights on the music truly made me appreciate it even more. you made this song heavenly for me man, thank you and you really deserve more subs!!!
I loved your analysis, just to remark that because of the pause maybe the key change in 10:30 passed unnoticed.(in the music video is at the 2:37)
Nice video👌
11:01 I'm not good for music theory, but that harmony might narratively be explained by the point in the story of AI at this point and where aqua and ruby are left. Due to spoilers I wont say anything, but the changes in the song and the meanings behind certain motifs is really cool to see. and really clicked when you were saying stuff. like the not returning to 1 being narratively unsatisfying in a major key, buy being hopeful in a minor key. really cool stuff
6:05 bro why are they holding glowing popsicles i want one too
You should react to more Japanese music i would recommend an artist called Eve since his instrumental and voice are just amazing
Some should i would recommend are:
Dramaturgy
Tokyo Ghetto
Raison D'etre
Im sure you'll love them
Song is even better when you saw the first episode and understand the lyrics. So awsome and i think the song reflects the series perfect with it's constont change of atmosphere
Best watch the 1st EP then rewatch the opening in eng. U will understand a lot
I'm glad I was recommended this channel, I don't know the first thing about making music but it was actually interesting to see your opinion on it and it wasn't too overwhelming or boring to listen to you trying to explain what was going on during the song either.
I always associate the intonation it has with a tragedy, every time I hear a melody ascend and descend it is the first thing that comes to mind
If you plan on doing more Japanese songs reaction, I would like to recommend Eve. Eve has worked on a few anime openings before, but the versions that he uploads on his youtube channel have their own MV, the lyrics are just amazing and the songs themsleves are absolutely enchanting.
Some suggestions:
-Dramaturgy
-How to eat life
-Fight song
-Outsider
You should cover more YOASOBI all of their songs tend to have upbeat rhythm and happy melodies with super depressing lyrics and it's amazing
Very glad there's no "Hi' I'm longestsoloev- BWOOOOOO-" this time lol
Nice vid LSE!
hmmmmm i wonder where you coulda got that from
@@Victini7472 I stole your joke hehe
The live video of ”YOASOBI/ idol” has been uploaded, so please check it out!

I love hearing people talk about music. I understand none of it but it’s so cool to see you freaking out about it :D
I love YOASOBI! They have some really awesome songs ! Monster is another really great one
This song is so good and your ability to match the pitch is crazy as well
This dude gives more information in the first 3 minutes of his video than most music producer reactors in the entire video. Love it!
damn, seeing a professional is a whole bnew experience, glad he liked it
i don't know about music, i don't understand so much of english ( I'm Mexican :,3)
BUT I LOOOVE THIS NEW CHANMEL!
The first thing I saw of you, were your FNF covers and i loved them
be on this channel since the first video (Don't listen is amazing ngl) it makes me sooo happy!
keep doin'g great things!
Many Anime Openings are Sick, Shangrila Frontier, Overlord, Hell Paradise, RE: Creators with Gravity Wall...... or the new one Mashle :D
The show is definitely worth checking out, goes into the behind the scenes of the entertainment industry as well as having some great characterization, the first episode might be good to try
Thank you for covering the song
such a good show. listening to you break down the music like this makes me get a new appreciation for the song. its crazy how it mixes these genres and sounds so good and how you can actually hear it. for an average person (like me) you just think that the music sounds good but its crazy how you pick up on the minor details through the whole thing
This is the most fantastic reaction for a song!! You totally explained to me how the melody made it to me !!
Dude please do more stuff like this, I'd love to see you do a breakdown on other japanese artists (Eve, Ado, Official Higedandism to name a few). Keep up the good stuff 👍
i really love your analysis, especially the hidden instrumentals i didn't notice at first, the way you explain the music stuff makes me love this song even more
0:58 - does anyone know if this is a real song?? It sound amazing.
Um the one he’s playing? Probably not, a great music producer can make a good example.
@ nooooo :(
This song is definitely eurobeat to me. They switch key, tempo, genre so smoothly
This song is a journey
it must be so gratifying to the producers to see someone really sit down and study their song that they've put so much work into
and to identify and celebrate such intracaies that are often just called "good" by the average listener
Love ur analysis cause the lyrics and anime do have those elements you mentioned 😅
11:34
Ok i watched all of oshi no ko and then read all of the available manga, this popped up in my recommended months after that.
Oshi no Ko isn't that bad. Made in Abyss is soul crushing.
Yeah, but even then, to the normal “casual” viewer, they’ll just question the facade.
It's alright you can handle it. Just... don't get too attached is what I will say.
But this particular song is about the first episode (which is 90min movie length) so i would suggest you at least watch this single "episode" before hearing the English version of the song, then you'll get it.
and then the ending as well!
This is sooo amazing, well detailed!!🤍❄️
Just watch ep 1 of Oshi no Ko and then the English version of the song. That is all you need to understand the context. The song will Hit differently, though.
Yoasobi is truly amazing. You should listen to more of their songs, the quality is unrivalled
I really hope that you will respond to all the openings and endings of vinland saga. They are beautiful, different in sound and energy. The music in this anime is a masterpiece.
This reaction video is really impressive. Thank you for the detailed explanaion. I just subscribed to your channel thanks to the video.
12:09 you cant tell me that this makes perfect boss music
This is amazing !
I love yoasobi! My top 1 JPOP group
Next Video "KickBack made me pull out a Chainsaw | Music Producer Reacts to Kenshi Yonezu - KICKBACK"
This is so fascinating to watch. I love this song, but I never knew exactly WHY. It's fun seeing a musical expert explain it all. Great stuff!
Bye👋👋👋
Thanks for uploading idol
Love this, and your critical break down of up! Fantastic pop song!
I think Dean should make a cover of at least instrumental
For the vocals - I think Dean know someone who can sing in Japanese LOL
I really enjoy a music producer's take in this masterpiece. I love Yoasobi's music.
Great video! Also, watch the official English version and the live concert video.
I suggest waiting to react to the English version until after watching/reacting to the first episode. The English lyrics have a stronger impact on English speakers after watching the initial episode.
Oshi no Ko is a masterpiece of art, it just does everything right
