When we look at content creators we see a pattern of burn out. We know that if we don't take care of ourselves we're not doing the channel any favors. After Alaska we both felt like we were going above our abilities and it made us re-think the way we were doing things to make sure we don't join the long line of "it's been fun but goodbye because I'm burnt out" videos. -J
We're glad that Cody & Trinity are doing well. We are full time (3 years) and travel in our 40' motor home. We purchased it used (2years old) in January this year (2024) trading in our 25' Entega motor home . Our two small pups and my wife are finally getting use to all the xtra room. 4 side outs. My advice on getting a newer unit, would be getting a used class A. They are built to travel, live in full time,we have had no issues so far. There are quite a few 5-6 year old low mileage units out there . Look at the tire age, it could be a bargaining advantage for you. We tow a 2014 Honda CRV. If you go with a 5th wheel and are looking for a truck, take look at the new Freightliner Pioneer pick up. 4 door no nonsense truck. $8,000 base price. 20mpg 4cyl diesel, over 200 hp to 475 hp Cummings inline 6 available Freightliner has been building trucks for 100 years. Chevy, Ford, Ram are all having serious problems with their engines since 2020. $60-80,000 for a pick up Good luck!!!
Some of those RV manufacters need to help you guys out with a sponsorship.... Glad to hear you say you plan to take some breaks, time off is important so we can keep our sanity!!! I say that as I'm gettting ready to enjoy some R&R.
Haha - I think most of the RV manufacturers are only interested in reallllllly big fish. Which is OK - they are expensive pieces of equipment. That said, we have such a long list of things we want, it would have to be a special partnership. LOL -J
We had the same "take every day as a gift" with our precious pup. It makes you appreciate each day. Good for you for taking time off. PLEASE don't burn out. We'd miss you a lot!
Hey everyone out there...this couple is legit, if you aren't subscribed, please do! It's free and its great entertainment! K&J - you should borrow Craig and Victoria's Brinkley while they are doing their "class C" thing to see if you like it. We can have a fundraiser for a new rig to get Joe out of having to be uncomfortable with snakes, don't worry Joe, a lot of us feel the same way about snakes! Merry Christmas!!!👍👍👍
I was just thinking of swiping their Brinkley once they start traveling in the class C. We just won't do any RV shots in our videos and then they'll never even know! 🤫 -J
I just wanted to tell you both how much I really enjoyed your Alaska visit series. I have not been through Canada or to Alaska, but I really felt like I travelled to both of those destinations this year. Your style of videography, storytelling and editing is - I think - very well done and makes for a very enjoyable and relaxing "escape" each week. I look forward to your Florida series, following your 2025 plans and wish you both and Cody and Trinity the best for the new year. Sincerely, Kurt
I’m sure you’ll be to 50K sooner than later. But the snakes!! OMG no way. 2025 sounds like it will be a great year for y’all. Will keep watching, liking, and sharing.
I knew it, new rig and tv👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 y’all deserve it and if you’re going continue to travel that’s not bad investment. You guys mentioned more gate guarding jobs that would be nice idk why but I really enjoyed watching those and would help offset some of the expense for new rig and tv. Oh everyone let’s get them to this 50k mark so we can see python hunting video
Happy Friday night! Glad to see Cody doing well! U guys work so hard to put out content, u deserve all the time off u want! I love backroads! Theres so much more to see.
@OpenRoading i struggle with balancing the self care/relaxing with stuff that i NEED to get done all the time, its made me a master level procrastinator tho 😅 Example; its mid dec, in maine, and going to single digits and i haven't skirted yet 😬
Thanks! We've considered doing some more of them, and we may in the future! Like Kalyn said - everything is on the table. A bit behind the scenes - it's just very, very draining to both work for someone else while trying to shoot, edit, and publish our own weekly videos. If we did a longer term gig we'd need to be at a place financially where we could hire a video editor, and if we do a short term gig again (like beet harvest) we'll either have to take an extended break from publishing or I'll have to get 4 weeks ahead in editing (something that I've found to be impossible so far. 😂). -J
Joe I think you were blushing when Kalyn asked if you’d finished primping. Love it. You two are just so cute together. I’d been wondering how Cody was. So glad he is still doing okay. I know you would definitely tell us if something happened to Cody. Love animals so much as you guys do too. Taking back roads is so much fun but never did it with an RV. my husband and I would find different routes to visit my family in Missouri. It normally took nine hours but we took as long as fifteen hours. It was so much fun Oh Joe you are such a good sport. Hunting pythons sounds like fun. If you aren’t a subscriber, why not?! They are the best!!!
Watching you guys today, I cannot believe that there were people being negative about you living full-time on the road RVing. I would love to watch that video if you could throw a link in there. Everybody’s life is different. Some people can do it some people can’t and of course, RVing full-time is not easy. Even when we go for a couple months every year, it really wears on my body. Smaller shower, up and down those crazy stairs, the smaller refrigerator and on and on. So to all your haters, each to their own, there’s a different lifestyle for everyone.God bless the two of you for what you are doing in your life because as you get older it becomes harder to do.❤
Cold water plunge when you hit 75K 😂.....love your content and I have been a subscriber since Trinity jumped in your chair at your gate guarding job in Texas😊
I will post your channel on my social media, and a good positive explanation of what the channel is about. I have learned a LOT from your channel, good and bad parts. I don't feel as lonely in my motorhome with your channel twice per week. I am living the RV life solo, and at my age, sometimes feel a bit isolated from my family and friends up north. I watch from here and my fiancee watches from PA at the same time. We laugh a lot, and feel moved by your relationship.
@@OpenRoading I will be in SC for 3 weeks by then. I am doing the Thousand Trails thing and couldn't book around Florida for those weeks. Then I come back to this part of Florida which is quite near Tampa.
Glad Trin and Cody are doing well. Don't get to crazy on things to do non of us want you to get hurt. When looking at trucks you may want to look at the medium duty and Heavy duty like the semi tractors. The maintenance costs are less, oil change once a year, you will not wear out the brakes and tires in 10 years. The HDT trucks are some times half the price of a one ton like a f350. What ever you do I hope it works out great for you, it is tough to pick the truck unless you know what you want for a trailer or if you want to go to a class A or class C. Stay safe and healthy and Merry Christmas early.
All right - I'll subscribe. All you had to do was ask. Now for that, I get to pass along some of the best financial advice I've ever heard... Ron Blue said that "The cheapest car you can own, is the one you own right now," . Unless your super duty has some sort of issue, or is limiting you in some way, I would hang on to it. It should be good for a million miles if taken care of. Safe travels!
I also like Ron Blue and agree. We decided on a dollar amount before we considered doing something else with our vehicles. Some times they become a money pit but with vehicles starting around $50K I would take a spreadsheet to it first.
We love your channel. We also love the idea of No highway travel. One of our reasons for RVing off freeways is to stop in rural Americas small towns and shop for provisions in the local stores and especially the grocery stores. It gives us a feel for real life in flyover America. Maybe you can encompass that into your next season and let those towns you visit and are going to visit know their town is going to be featured on RUclips. That should help get some new subscribers for your goal.
It is great to see Cody hanging in there so well. Instead of a motorcycle, please consider electric bikes. They are easier to carry and will give you content options where a motorcycle just can't go.
I like the electric motorcycle idea. It has good milage, quiet, keeps wildlife near for photography, no gas expense, very little maintenance, advanced features. Also you might want to buy an ATV to use when your RV is parked. Good to have both of you in one vehicle including Trinity. To go to a grocery store near buy, around a lake, down a river, visit a beach and less likely to fall off of than a motorcycle and helmets not needed. Also no insurance or license required, I think.
We're considering adding them in 2025 to give us some more flexibility. Still want a motorcycle eventually but it might help us through the transition phase. -J
@@stephenmaher1029 Yeah, that was the part I wasn't sure of. But if one drives an RV then the license is done and one can get your auto insurance to add your ATV. But thanks for verifying a license is needed. Besides if I get to needing one maybe Tesla will make an FSD version. 🤔🙏
If you decide to visit the Canadian Maritime Provinces be aware that there is a hidden fee that will play havoc with your budget. In the most of western Canada the Sales Tax is 5%. In Ontario it is 13% and everything east of Quebec it's 15%. Of course it's collected on everything; gas, groceries - everything. On another note; an amazing Canadian trip that would include a train ride is Churchill, Manitoba. Merry Christmas!
You know it's funny this is the only travel channel I follow, I come on board with y'all on your first gate guarding video just because I'm in the oil field and I see it all the time I have zero interest in travel because I just don't have time for it but for some reason y'all's enthusiasm for what you do is what makes the channel, i'll catch up in the cab of the tractor or the dozer to what y'all are doing, now I have traveled before that route y'all took to Alaska I have done that a few times on a KLR 650 Kawasaki motorcycle. I don't know if you remember but when y'all first met the dog y'all were asking what kind of breed it was and I was screaming at the screen a Catahoula 😎 We use them for pretty much everything over here in East Texas from a cow dog to a hog dog. Would like to see y'all come back to Texas and do a lot of oil field guarding either at the gate or on location like you did before most people never even understand what that is. But yes in my opinion y'all need a new vehicle. Diesel trucks are not what they used to be, they are very powerful but they are so unreliable today with all of the emissions and DEF and EGR.
#1 I'm excited for the Florida stuff, as that is my favorite state and where I want to be. #2 Glad Cody is doing well. #3 Trinity is absolutely the most beautiful dog I've ever seen. #4 buy WAY more truck than you think you need. #5 As far as RV upgrades/replacement, that's rough. All the new ones are absolute garbage. Maybe get something newer but not brand new? #6 absolutely love you two.
If you haven’t looked at trucks yet, might I suggest a dually. For us it takes a lot of angst out of towing. And if you’re considering another motorcycle in the near future, you might want to look into a toy hauler. There’s plenty of pre owned ones on the market. An idea for the goals is Joseph can start growing a beard at 50k and when you get to 100k he can shave it off! I know how much Kalyn loves a beard 😜! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a successful 2025!
LOL to the beard. Boy would that be motivation for me to create a bunch of fake youtube accounts and have them subscribe. 😂 We're considering a dually - although we've never had issue with the single. We're also considering a toy hauler, but are annoyed at the fact that pretty much all of them are over 40'. We know we're probably going to go a little longer but would love to keep it under 40. -J
@@OpenRoading if you really don't need a toy hauler, then seriously don't get one. So much additional length to maneuver with, but giving you less living space.
@@larryfreeman7979 The things we like about a few toy haulers - More weight. I'm pretty sure I've abused the GWVR on this rig... to have something that can carry more weight would be nice, expecially since if we bought another toy (motorcycle) it would be probably no more than 400lbs which leaves extra room. The other thing is the water capacity. If we could have 160gal of on board water, I could get rid of external dump tank and water jugs as that would get us 2 weeks without needing a dump which is our ideal travel style. It's realllllly hard to find a non-toy hauler that has anything above 75gal water storage. I'm not saying we are getting a toy hauler, because I have no idea, but those are the reasons (besides being able to add the motorcycle again) that they are a strong consideration. -J
I thought it was super fun and exciting!! And thanks for the update on Cody (been through something extremely similar recently so it was good to see him doing so well)!
I’m glad Cody is doing better! My husband and I are like you. We have lived longer in an Rv than we ever have lived in a house. 😂I enjoy your videos, Trinity and Cody. Following you into 2025.
We saw our first gate guarders! We are currently visiting relatives in El Paso. We did a loop to White Sands, Carlsbad, and Guadelupe NPs. My wife spotted gate guarders between Artesia and Carlsbad.
You may have removed my suggestions for free / low-cost things to do in Florida. So, I will just state them without the links. 1) Tampa Electric's Power Plant, where there is a Manatee Viewing Center in the winter because they like the warm water 2) Manatee Park in the Fort Myers area, where you can kayak with the manatees... I will try to think of some more.
@@tennesseeturner Ah! Thank you. RUclips kicks out comments with links (Unless I put them in) to keep spam out. We've been to the manatee park in Ft Myers but always got the timing wrong. We would see 1 or 2 but nothing like the 50 that we would see in photos 😫 -J
Glad Cody is doing better. We went to Florida in the summer and visited all the natural springs by devils den. I wanted to go diving but the hubs was deployed. Once we do move into an RV next summer that’s the first place I want to travel to. Best wishes for 2025.
Great to hear of your schedule plans. I'll be following closely. I understand your thoughts on redoing the 5th wheel. My older motorhome I had was constantly needing something fixed, which I did and repaired/remodeled/modified it to be better for us. I looked at some more new remodels to do which would have cost around $25K. Not wise for a 23 yr old motorhome. Sold it bought a new truck (OH YEAH), new trailer (not the right floorplan) and only spent 5 times as much as the remodel would have been. The moral, as you know. the right floorplan is very important. Don't get sidetracked by the glitz. When I ordered my Ram, I figured what I wanted, went online to multiple dealers (Ram, GM & Ford) to get pricing options. In 2021 when I ordered the truck, GM & Ford wouldn't even talk less than 5-12% ABOVE MSRP. Multiple Ram dealers were below MSRP at the time. One of the other commenters mentioned Mark Dodge in Louisiana. They were the cheapest ones I could find across the country. They were about 12% under MSRP (as memory serves). Wished I would have gone with them instead of buying local. I did save a lot, 9% under but not real happy w/dealership. Shop around & get what you want for options etc. I plan on my truck outliving me since the wife said to get what I want because I can't have another one. On a lighter note, I was thinking,,,,, new truck, new rig, husband eaten by largest Python ever seen. Sorry, 5 AM and too much coffee. Looking forward to your future plans. Keep em coming.
One thing that has helped other content creators I follow on RUclips to get more subscribers is to every now and then do a collaboration on a video with some other RUclipsrs. Just a thought.
This was our whole last summer. 😂 Granted, our videos weren't exactly collabs but the whole season was pretty much one giant collab! Collabs are just hard to pull off because we've discovered we aren't as "natural" when we're filming with people we don't already personally know really well. So - not saying no - just saying we have to get to know the people we're colabing with first. -J
No highways…..are you nuts!?! Staying in Florida for winter is crazy enough. I look forward to learning about the fun spots of Florida and you possibly changing my thoughts about the Sunshine state. Thanks for sharing your plans. Glad Cody is doing good. Have a great holiday!
Hi, Looking forward to your videos in 2025 Come on people, Kalyn & Joe are the real deal, lets get them new subscribers, Goodluck with everything, Aussie Fan 💜
I like what you've done with your camper. It's bright, small enough to maneuver and (of course) it's paid for. If you want to get a bike again one thought is a toy hauler . . . but now you're increasing the size substantially and (in my opinion) you lose a lot of interior room due to the garage . . . but then the garage can double as workspace / office. So many options. Plus toy haulers don't seem to have a lot of windows and I like to see what's going on outside. Another option is a diesel pusher Class A and flat-tow the pickup (drive line disconnect). Older Class A's go pretty cheap and are a bargain if well maintained (plus no DEF). Keep the checkbook in the camper when you go to the RV show.
So we all now know what Joe will do when membership hits 50K. What is Kalyn going to do? I've read thru the comments and agree with you on the amount of work involved in creating content. It hits home with me. I've found it takes four hours plus of editing to produce a fifteen minute video with decent content. While I would not join the premium content membership, I am a sub and will remain so. We enjoy following your journey. We would have liked to try to meet you both as well as C&V at the Tampa show but will have family in town that week. If you do get further down on the east coast.....
Keep an eye out! We'll be in Florida the entire winter. I'm impressed at your editing! It takes me usually around 20-30 hours for our Friday videos. 👀 (That's including music selection and all the final fine tuning and color correction etc). And zero problem not joining the membership! I see it like merch or even our postcard club. It's a product that offered and it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea and that's a-ok! -J
Yeeeiii FLorida. Please go to the Keys. I miss Key west so much. Also there is a hostel, Everglades hostel…it’s magical. Maybe they let you go with the rv? People camping there with tents. I’m so happy for Florida ❤
You 2 are adorable. Love watching Cody & Trinity interact 🥰. Looking forward to 50k👏. I hate snakes too Joe. I'll have a hard time just watching 😮. Merry 🎄 Christmas to all your family.
😁 I just gotta say... when my family had meetings growing up they weren't usually this positive. 😂 Usually one of us boys had gone astray of the rules and parents were trying to figure out which one(s) of us it was. LOL -J
@@ItsJonBaca BHAHAHA! And I would have been the one that did it that got you blamed. (Youngest here) Quick family story that comes up almost everytime we get together. I was mad at the 2nd born (I'm 4th) I stomped out of the room we shared and stomped without looking and went off the top stair... proceeded to fall down the entire flight of stairs. My brother ran to the top of the stairs to see if I was ok... I looked up... smiled... and started crying "___insert name___ pushed me down the stairs!!!!!!" 😂😂😂😂😂 -J
Well considering Joe’s reaction to a banana muffin, I can’t wait to see him react to python handlers with big snakes in close proximity (insert Forrest Gump run here)! 🫣😂 You know I love ya, Joe! 😊❤ I’m happy that you two have lots of plans (Kalyn is so organized!) and I’m really looking forward to whatever content we are blessed with on your channel in 2025! 👏👏👏 Loved the Cody and Trinity cameos too! 🥰
Thanks for the Cody update, I love seeing him on travel days with Trinity :). I’m definitely subscribed but will see who we can get added cause I kinda wanna see if J. will squeal?scream? Looking forward to the backroads!
I guess attending a rattlesnake roundup and barbecue snake tasting event in Texas is out. Rattlesnake is the most awesome, pure, clean meat one can chow down on. That alone would get you to fifty thousand real quick. There's also about a thousand places in Texas to be, see and enjoy. Especially along highways and back ways and small towns. The Friendly State is priceless and yet affordable. Learn some new skills for fun and challenge. For example: water skills and building skills. Water 1. Learn to skin dive. 2. Learn to scuba dive. 3. Pass Life Guard certification. 4. Learn to kayak. 5. Learn to surf. 6. Learn to sail a boat. Building 1. How to make adobe walls and log walls. 2. How to make a garden. 3. How to provide solar power to a cabin. 4. How to care for chickens and build a coop.
@OpenRoading Start with a harmless little, garden snake. They're sold at pet shops next to guppies, goldfish, parakeets and giant Asian cockroaches. Green garden snakes only eats bugs. They're clean and silky to hold. They're beneficial to good gardens and a great pet in a terrarium. Trinity and the bunny will be amused too.
@@PlanetEarth3141 I put a garden snack that I caught in the field in my sister’s bed when we were kids - I got in trouble but her scream was so worth it. (I grew up in Quebec we don’t have any poisonous snakes up here).
We will indeed! Who knows how long it will take but we both agreed that this sort of thing wasn't something that we wanted to just say "SURPRISE WE GOT A NEW RIG!" on the channel, but instead bring ya'll along as we navigate the process. -J
You both make living an art! Once Joseph captures the record python 🐍 in the 'Glades, I expect to see him in an "alligator 🐊wrestling" match next! Cheers 🥂to your goals in 2025! 🎆✨
I don't drive a Freightliner. 😁 - Cab mounts - Been shot for 2 years - CP4 Fuel Pump - it's only a matter of time most likely - DPF Unit is malfunctioning - I haven't had to put DPF in it in over a month... so who knows when that's going to fault out and need work. Last time I had that done it was $3 grand. Replacing the whole thing is 8. - Oil leak - I believe it may be the head gasket but I'm not certain. - Coolant leak - more It's a truck that I'm sure someone who knows there way around engines could get a lot more miles out of. I'd prefer to get something with a few less miles under her belt and that has been abused less than I've abused this one. No truck is free of repairs but I believe this on is on the edge of costing me more in repairs each year than a new truck payment would be. -J
OK if you have vasoline like substance from your blow bye. ( hose that let's over flo release ) then it's a head gasket. I own a 1994 ford one ton 7.3 Runs fine. OK everything you describe I'd rebuild it. But sound for you better to sell and run. Ford 6.0 are garbage. 6.7 are good. Def I don't have and don't want. I will pray for you 2l . With God on your side you will come out on top.
I love the updates and hearing all of your big plans for 2025! I am SO excited for you. ❤ You guys do such a great job of bringing us along through all the things. Saving up for a truck and new RV isn't glamorous but it's SO practical and smart! Which we know you two are! 😉 Here's to 2025! 🎉
Just booked a spot in Lake City Fl for $350/m. First snowbird winter! Also I found that the 2005-2007 range of diesel pushers were the pinnacle of RV craftsmanship, may start there with your new rig
Airstream!!!!! I just traded in my 5th wheel for an Airstream earlier this year and I feel like I can have this rig indefinitely. Truck with a cap with bikes in the bed. 😉 kidding I know it’s not for everyone. Good luck with your future endeavors. I’ll watch no matter what! BTW Trin is the bestest most chill pup ever!
Hopefully Tampa will give you some good ideas on what you want to live in next. We are going to the RV Show in Mobile right after New Year Day. Not as exciting as Tampa, but as you know we can't make it down there due to a far more important reason. Glad to know where you are going and I wish all of you happy and safe travels.
Very very good reason to miss the show. 😁 This will be our first time staying at the show, we visited it 6 years ago for a day just after we had bought our rig! We actually went so we could meet Nathan and Marissa Moss of Less Junk More Journey. 🙂 It's going to be a lot of fun to be there again. -J
Excited for you guys growing your channel! I may actually see you at the Tampa RV show as I will be working the show. I’ll probably be in the Winnebago motorhomes area.
I think the time to buy a truck is now if you're looking. The Big 3 are hurting for sales and looking to offload 2024. I would recommend you get whatever truck you get undercoated for rust. You guys do a lot of traveling, and it will help with the rust. Ziebart Rust Protection with Undercoating does great for new trucks
Truck and Rv sales are down quite a bit so you can get a fabulous deal if you close on something in the off season. Maybe get an RV with a toy hauler built in at the back of the rig. There are deals to be had!❤ Would love to see you at the Rubbertramp Rendezvous in Quartzsite Arizona in January/ February! Maybe that’s the key to 50k!
That's what we're hoping for on the truck! I don't think the RV will happen over the winter due to budget (We don't want to get ourselves into a financial pickle) but time will tell! We'll limp this girl till as long as we need to. 🙂 -J
I may or may not have been accused of having a bit of a mean sense of humor, but even I’m feeling a little bad for J. Ok. Ok. Not bad enough I won’t enjoy the video (cuz there WILL be one), but…😂. Looking forward to seeing what you come up for K to do at 75k! Hehe Really looking forward to your new rig content. We have an old Class A, but she’s SOLID so we need to keep her, but my dream would be a fiver. I’ve been doing the backroad thing for a couple years now. Makes for a lot more travel days cuz it’s slow and takes a lot more planning but it’s SO much more fun. You guys are a hoot and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans you get into in 2025. Thanks for making us ‘family’ and just sharing the love and laughs.
Thanks so much! And I'm not going on the Snake hunt alone!! Kalyn just isn't as afraid of snakes as I am!! 😂 We came up with the idea together so it's not Kalyn being mean to me. lol Just wanted to clarify that! Yeah, I really enjoyed traveling the back roads! -J
I would suggest looking at used truck. New have do many issues. It took me a year of patience, but it paid off and have wonderful used truck low miles, and was in fantastic shape. We did the same with a fiver and the best part is no payments…
From what I've seen, doing a full renovation of that RV would generate a boatload of subscribers. I don't know what the shortcomings with the layout are, but if you did a layout renovation, that would be VERY RUclips popular.
I hear you. Trust me I do. But part of staying sane in the content creation space is doing things you enjoy. Doesn't mean we enjoy everything, but a full on overhaul of the RV while at the same time trying to produce the content we do at the level of production that we do... would probably end the channel. 😂 -J
Looking sharp in the in the introduction buddy😉I know what truck I’d be getting and interested to see what yall end up going with. I think 2025 is going to be a great year and I’m excited for y’all’s future too! I enjoyed the videos when yall were doing those unusual jobs and think it would be cool to see some different versions of wild jobs that yall can get into. Have fun out there👍:-)
Love watching you Guys! You are like average American people. You seem so “real”. 😁 Just like us! You’re so relatable!! Anyway, I look forward to following you over the next -how ever many- years! Love your Dog, your Rabbit ❤️🩹 and your relationship! Good luck with your future plans and may God bless! 🙂
I found this video VERY exciting as you discuss your 2025 plans. You have some fun, big, entertaining, and challenging plans ahead. HOWEVER, I too hate snakes and mice. If I unsubscribe and ask all my friends to unsubscribe maybe you will not have to touch a python. Just kidding - I’ll be there along the way but I’m sure I’ll close my eyes now and then if you touch a python. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you the best in 2025.
Great to hear your plans... for the first time we are heading south to Florida! spending time in the panhandle and western Florida - now that we heard you are going to the Tampa husband now wants to go! hahahaha the process we chose a year prior to our retirement # 1 new truck purchase,,,, #2 new 5th wheel purchase... going to have to say GO BRINKLEY! hahahaha. I even see a few of Brinkleys for sale as circumstances have changed. Good luck - maybe we can meet somewhere in Florida
First, good family meeting. Second, you should get a Brinkley so you can be Brinkley Buddies with Craig and Victoria. Third, 75k or 100k task: Go to some crowded busy place where you'll have to interact with people - the catch: you have to talk like a Pirate all day (and you can't tell anyone why). There's $1M ideas there guys!
You guys have been open about RV expenses. But one subject that no one mentions, is what does your RVing cost for the year? Up front, like a normal RV owner, versus the "after tax" cost of having the RV as a continual tax deductible business expense? Even changing your tax deductions to include the RV and depreciation MUST make it way more affordable.
I don't know whether or not it makes a huge difference with regard to taxes however, not having property tax in the first place is a huge savings. That said, we also don't have a house or land as an asset to fall back on. We purchased our RV for 12,000 cash, and the truck we paid cash for as well so I'm not sure exactly how those have played a roll in tax savings. It's complicated since we have our own business so I know last year we either got a tiny bit back or owed a tiny bit. We don't dive too deep into the tax end of things simply because we aren't tax professionals. 😁 -J
Very interested to see how you grow with your channel. I’ve been watching for awhile watched you getting to your 16:31 goal to go to Alaska and the Alaska trip!! Just check to make sure that I am subscribed. Looking forward to what you see and do in Florida. I will soon be spending a week in Florida after a cruise was staying in the Everglades and then a state park. Are you planning on going to dryTortuga’s? Next year, I am going to be traveling in a rented camper van that will be a new experience for me.
Y'all are just the best! If there's anything we can do to help you reach your goal, despite the fact that we're quite a bit smaller than you guys, just let us know. Easily our favorite RV channel!
I was worried number 5 was going to be that I needed to create better goals for life and we will always be family, but we need to work together on X,Y,Z. Due to last years 1,2,3 not being exactly met, there are going to be new parameters in 2025 to help ensure the success of the family ... then the song "we are family!" started blaring in my head, I had to rewind a couple of minutes to see what I missed when the snakes starting showing up!
I am really glad Cody is doing okay. I have to agree with Joe. I am not doing snakes. Just watching you do it on RUclips will be more than enough for me.
Hello. So from a person who has changed rigs way too many times... please look into gently used truck & 5er - as it sounds like keeping a 5er & truck. Thanks for sharing. Safe Travels.
It's alllll on the table. If I were a betting man it will be a used truck and a new 5th wheel only because we are having a TON of trouble finding a used that has the bright interior and floor plan we are looking for. We're being super picky because we want this to be our home for a long time. -J
I can’t find the community pageThere is so many places to view and see but my vote would be the Pacific Northwest so many things to see and do drive up the coast we drove up the coast from Nevada crossed into California and went to just below the border of California and Oregon took the off the beaten path trip. That’s a route that takes you through the redwood forest not the big giant ones but this is just the forest up to the coast campgrounds if you wanna stay in the campground, my favorite campgrounds are Cate Blanco, Surfside Beach and if you make it to South Central Oregon around Bend Lapine, I’d love to put y’all up for a night From Lapine, your roughly 45 minutes from the cascade mountains, beautiful place to explore during summer safe travels
Here's a link you can bookmark! www.youtube.com/@OpenRoading/community If you're ever on our home page (the one that shows all our videos) there should be a set of "Tabs" above the videos and community is one of them. Thanks for the info! We love the cascades! -J
I live in Harbor (aka Brookings) I heard my first tsunami siren last week!🎉🎉🎉 Hearing that was very surreal, since I grew up in AZ! I agree with them coming to the PNW, and doing a nice long Coastal trip!
Thank you for the link to the community posts. I didn’t see it on my tv or my phone app. Computer only? Agree with visiting Central Oregon. If you do ever visit, I recommend visiting before mid-July to avoid forest fire season. The landscapes here are varied and epic! The Painted Hills, looking for fossils in Fossil, hiking, rafting, biking, spelunking, sightseeing. Smith Rock and Crater Lake (2 hrs south of Bend) are must sees. There’s so much more. It’s all amazingly beautiful! Bend is also a great foodie town with lots of restaurants that cater to dietary restrictions. Redmond had some great restaurants too. And the Cowboy Tree restaurant out near Fort Rock is an experience! So, so much! I hope you make it out here someday! You guys are awesome! My husband has been a youth pastor for nearly 30 years and I loved how you honored your youth pastor!
Joe, plan seems workable. We are going to the Tampa show if you still need the caulk I can bring it to you! I’m with you on the snakes, no way could I do that.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to track down the paint color we used!? Kalyn is usually quite organized but somehow this paint color slipped through the cracks... and if you remember right.... uh.... we threw out the extra paint last year... 😂 -j
@ go to a store and get some color chips that look close and we can go from there. We bought a 2023 Alliance Paradigm 382RK from a couple this past August for half of the original MSRP and it’s been great so far, remember as you know new isn’t always better. Funny thing was we had to borrow a truck before our Ford F350 came in, we can only do weekends and a few weeks at a time now. Hope to meet y’all in Tampa with or without caulk. Your plan to hit 100k is really doable just keep the great content coming!
@@walterrafolski5662 Thanks! If I can't find it, don't worry about it - but if I find it I'll let you know! We've got a meetup outside the show! Info here on our community page: ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqqUF-wl6jOB0Uh-Hd-ejLwKPZz0ET_mD Otherwise - we'll be walking around! -J
I hope you get some good hang time with 'Wild RV Life' at the Tampa show! It was fun seeing you all travel to Alaska together! Good luck on meeting your subscription goals! ❤
Hey you guys long time subscriber here and I subscribed for the down to earth wholesomeness of you two. Now not everyone is like me or as old 😂. The things I look for are hunting,fishing,cooking,4- wheeling, Jeff and Hannah Barron, Animals wildlife. Joe I too hate snakes If one likes my vehicles I give it away, one in my house, trailer it abandoned can’t share with snakes. Dodge trucks are great and priced right. There are places across America with great deals on RVs. But not camper world big time ripoff.
❤ for Cody!👍🏻💯. I think you guys should get some really cool super bicycles so that you can go over the bike trails in Moab . You need really special bicycles with special wheels to go over that route but I think you would really enjoy it instead of the motorcycle and get some kayaks ‘, so you can learn how to kayak and do some fabulous trips down some rapids👍🏻💯❤❤ & merry Christmas 🎄
Hey guys! Excited about 2025 for you and the channel. I signed up for the Members Only Content (Thinking 80’s jacket LOL) but I’m not able to see the hidden content. Can you confirm we did it correctly? Mad love for you guys! Thanks
Hey there! I'm so sorry for the confusion on this. I wish RUclips made the channel levels clearer and maybe we need to do a better job in our videos. So there are 2 tiers - Super Supporter gets access to the custom emojis in the comments (look at the smiley box at the bottom left of the comment box to insert them) and then the Channel Insider level get's those and access to the bonus videos. I'm really sorry for that confusion. You can upgrade if you still want access to the videos - that button should be in the same place as the join button I believe. -J
Check out Mark Dodge in Lake Charles, Louisiana for a Ram truck. Just bought a dually myself for our full-time RV life, and they had the best prices I have found.
Very cool. We recently transitioned from sailboat living for the last 2 years, to rv land yachting. Right now parked in Green Cove Springs waiting to finalize our sailboat sale. Once the sale, sail, is done we’ll decide where to next. Would love to know your input for low/no cost rving in Florida. Dan & Peg, sailboat Dauntless.
Keep watching - that's what our whole winter is going to be about! 🙂 As to this year, look for county water management areas. It's different for every county, many are free or require a cheap permit but almost always require reservations. -J
Did you mean interstates or highways? Feel like highways are more "backroading" than interstates. When you mentioned backroading, it made me recall when I was on a LONG motorcycle journey a few years ago, I exited off the interstate I think looking for gas (I can't even remember what state I was in, New Mexico maybe?) but there was this road within eyesight of the interstate, and off to my left was this abandoned road. It was incredibly strange- had 2 or 3 houses on either side, but it was getting naturally filled in with I'm guessing as deep as 5" of dirt in spots with large puddles and large amounts of wild grass growing everywhere out of it. Had a curb on both sides I believe too, and I don't think the houses were abandoned, but the road unfortunately was not passable on my 2 wheels and I had to turn around. Never seen anything like it before, it's like the area just gave up on it and I couldn't imagine a reason why.
I’m sure you have done this, but I would definitely weight the cost of doing/having repairs made to your rig in relation to purchasing a new one. The quality of the new rigs has dropped dramatically over the Covid era!! As for truck, the dually would be more comfortable to haul with. But in that you also have to consider it as your daily driver. Parking, narrow roads, tight spaces, etc. all need to be considered. Looking forward to the “non-highway “ adventures! My brother tends to stay away from interstate highways and enjoy the ride in his rig.
I will be very curious to see your lodging. Through the years, my family and I would spend 30 days or longer camping when my kids were little down in the keys. Now we can’t go because the RV parks are totally outrageous. There are a couple in the northern area that are reasonable, but the south people have lost their mind. So I will be watching because I’ve been wanting to take my husband back to Florida where we could enjoy the warm sun and the ocean water.
I'm glad Cody is doing so well! Your schedule sounds very sensible. We don't want you to burn out. 2025 is going to be fun!
$60-80,000 for a pick up
Good luck!!!
It really does. I doubt it will make it easier for the last day when it comes... but maybe. -J
When you sell your truck, you MIGHT WANT TO TAKE YOUR TIRES WITH YOU IF POSSIBLE, JUST SAYIN!
Thank you so much Kurt! Honestly it's encouraging comments like this each week that help propel us forward here on RUclips. Thank you! -J
Yay for 2025 🥳 Glad Cody has had 12 months with you xx
Us too. We genuinely cannot believe it. He's a trooper! -J
The intro wasn’t stupid, it was super adorable! And the no highway idea is a cool one - I’m looking forward to that!
Glad you enjoyed our shenanigans. 😂 -J
I’m sure you’ll be to 50K sooner than later. But the snakes!! OMG no way. 2025 sounds like it will be a great year for y’all. Will keep watching, liking, and sharing.
Thanks so much!! -J
Thanks so much! The hilarious thing is we take a week off from filming and somehow manage to fill it with hours of some sort of work. 😂 -J
@OpenRoading i struggle with balancing the self care/relaxing with stuff that i NEED to get done all the time, its made me a master level procrastinator tho 😅
Example; its mid dec, in maine, and going to single digits and i haven't skirted yet 😬
You were commenting on new locations to visit, we really enjoyed your work camping videos. I hope that helps :)
It was so much fun
Oh Joe you are such a good sport. Hunting pythons sounds like fun.
If you aren’t a subscriber, why not?! They are the best!!!
Thanks Ernestine! We love your encouragement each and every week! -J
@ you guys are the icing on my week. Thank you. 🙏💙
Added to the list of possibilities! -J
Excited for you!!! 529 Days to Go!!
Haha! I'm proud that I knew what the countdown was for! -J
Happy to be your ‘family’ and wish you great success on your goals!
Thanks so much! I know you're in Florida, are you going to be at the RV show in January? -J
@@OpenRoading I will be in SC for 3 weeks by then. I am doing the Thousand Trails thing and couldn't book around Florida for those weeks. Then I come back to this part of Florida which is quite near Tampa.
@@flyingGrandpa Got it! Hopefully we can cross paths at some point! -J
I am excited to see your 2025 traveling season. Loved seeing Cody! God bless you both! ❤️🙏🇺🇸🐾🐰
@@PlanetEarth3141also not street legal 😂
We've been eyeballing some trains! 😁
And yeah, taxes suck, but hey, I guess I'm helping keep the roads smooth? -J
I don't know if you remember but when y'all first met the dog y'all were asking what kind of breed it was and I was screaming at the screen a Catahoula 😎
We use them for pretty much everything over here in East Texas from a cow dog to a hog dog.
Yeah. I keep hoping the EGR DEF will get rolled back... not holding my breath though. -J
We're considering a dually - although we've never had issue with the single. We're also considering a toy hauler, but are annoyed at the fact that pretty much all of them are over 40'. We know we're probably going to go a little longer but would love to keep it under 40. -J
This is a good comment. 😊
Or a HDT. Did you see your friend behind the wheel of one recently?
Good luck on your goals!
Thanks so much!
Good to hear Cody is doing well. We started watching because of him and of course the Jam saga lol
Hi, Cody!! We love you. 💖💖💖
Passed the love along! -J
Thanks!
Thanks for the update!
You're welcome! 😁 -J
We saw our first gate guarders! We are currently visiting relatives in El Paso. We did a loop to White Sands, Carlsbad, and Guadelupe NPs. My wife spotted gate guarders between Artesia and Carlsbad.
haha! Nice! When you see a single RV parked at the front of a random dirt road it's a good chance! Especially if work lights are involved. 👷🏻
We did see the manatees when we went kayaking there. And bought a manatee-shirt!@@OpenRoading
Hi,
Looking forward to your videos in 2025
Come on people, Kalyn & Joe are the real deal,
lets get them new subscribers,
Goodluck with everything,
Aussie Fan 💜
Oh! And Kalyns coming on the Python hunt too! She's just not scared of snakes.
This is good. We needed a family meeting for 2025. I feel informed.

@ no joke, my younger brother did that to me. He would also hit himself. Start crying and blame me. So I’d get grounded. 🤦🏻♂️
@@ItsJonBaca That's part of our charm as youngest siblings...

We have two Rex Hair Lop Ear bunnies. Black and white. Named Yin and Yang. We love our bunnies!
Nice!! -J
Haha! I don't think I will gag.. scream? Probably. -J
Thanks for the Cody update, I love seeing him on travel days with Trinity :). I’m definitely subscribed but will see who we can get added cause I kinda wanna see if J. will squeal?scream? Looking forward to the backroads!
If one of them things so much as move while I'm trying to grab it, I'm gonna be done. 😂 -J

@@PlanetEarth3141 Haha... add venom to a snake and I am sooooo out. 😂 -J
@OpenRoading
Start with a harmless little, garden snake.

Hopefully you'll be documenting your search for new truck and RV. Looking forward to it!!
We will indeed! Who knows how long it will take but we both agreed that this sort of thing wasn't something that we wanted to just say "SURPRISE WE GOT A NEW RIG!" on the channel, but instead bring ya'll along as we navigate the process. -J

My 1989 freightliner with its cat motor has 5.5 million miles on it. Rebuilt once. So keep your current rig its possible !!
I don't drive a Freightliner. 😁
- Cab mounts - Been shot for 2 years
- CP4 Fuel Pump - it's only a matter of time most likely
- DPF Unit is malfunctioning - I haven't had to put DPF in it in over a month... so who knows when that's going to fault out and need work. Last time I had that done it was $3 grand. Replacing the whole thing is 8.
- Oil leak - I believe it may be the head gasket but I'm not certain.
- Coolant leak

It's a truck that I'm sure someone who knows there way around engines could get a lot more miles out of.

Thank you for the update. You can do these along with Q & A videos more often too. Thanks! Blessings!
Just booked a spot in Lake City Fl for $350/m. First snowbird winter! Also I found that the 2005-2007 range of diesel pushers were the pinnacle of RV craftsmanship, may start there with your new rig
I'm excited for you guys!
This will be our first time staying at the show, we visited it 6 years ago for a day just after we had bought our rig!
Awesome! I'd ask if you can get us a deal but I don't think motorhome is on our list... 😂 -J
@ I would love to chat about it with you. I will be able to sell from any of the Lazydays inventory. Even just to help you narrow down your options.
@@jimsdimideas5383 We'll be in the market. Probably not coming out of the RV show with one but we'll have our toes in for sure. -J
Thanks! Yeah, we're really hoping to pick one up by the end of the year. -J
2 suggestions for Florida. Both near Orlando. Gatorland, & Bok Gardens.
Familiar with both! We considered doing Gatorland. We'll see! -J
Truck and Rv sales are down quite a bit so you can get a fabulous deal if you close on something in the off season. Maybe get an RV with a toy hauler built in at the back of the rig. There are deals to be had!❤
Would love to see you at the Rubbertramp Rendezvous in Quartzsite Arizona in January/ February! Maybe that’s the key to 50k!
That's what we're hoping for on the truck! I don't think the RV will happen over the winter due to budget (We don't want to get ourselves into a financial pickle) but time will tell! We'll limp this girl till as long as we need to. 🙂 -J
@ you could also rent out your rig once you get the new one
I may or may not have been accused of having a bit of a mean sense of humor, but even I’m feeling a little bad for J. Ok. Ok. Not bad enough I won’t enjoy the video (cuz there WILL be one), but…😂.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up for K to do at 75k! Hehe
Really looking forward to your new rig content.
We're exploring all the options! -J

Great to hear Cody is doing ok! Joseph...I'm with you on the snake thing. Love the channel! Keep doing what you're doing.
Good luck with your goal!

That was Cape Blanco

No interstates. I know other roads are called "highways" as well, but interstates was what we avoided. 😁
And that sounds soooo eerie in NM! -J
