The way Joe speaks about storytelling and how each session might have a moment that lives in your mind forever - inspiring stuff
Joe has gotten so good at acting in character. The facial expressions even. This episode really shines a light on it.
I totally agree!
Now if only he could roll as well! 😂
It’s insane how excited I get by GCN shows. I watch them more than actual TV lol
You and me both
Same
Well, with all this content, who has TIME for TV? 😂
Troy got what he wanted, a tv network. I anticipate every release.
Don't have TV anymore. All I watch is nerd shit on streaming.
That might've been the best on camera starting banter
I was thinking that too. Really feels like OG Glass Cannon.
"Maybe she's wearing a whole shirt." Another low-key Skid gem.
Is Joe going to get a bottle cap for his heartfelt acting?
No
@@calbarogcannon fodder brought me here.
Matthew's "goddammit!" after Syd killed his new character had me rolling
Read this comment two seconds before it happened. It made it even more funny 🤣🤣
Troy making himself cry as Hubert *chef's kiss* 🤣😆🤣
1:42:39 😂
that was a comedy gem at the GCN ahaha
Oh no oh no Sydney's gonna talk! I laughed so had my ribs hurt.
The reason I love this show is because its seems more organic. Honestly just seems like a bunch of friends playing Pathfinder who are also funny, good at storytelling, and make mistakes like everyone else. Don't get that from any other shows i've tried, they seem too "scripted". If that makes sense.
Tabletop Gold has that kind of vibe too btw, highly recommend them as well.
@Michael-ls9eu listened to them a few times, never could get invested. They seem great but for some reason they didn't just fit for me
100%
Hubert Hedge, MVP this episode.
This episodes added character context and reprieve from the bloodshed is greatly appreciated.
Never miss a gatewalker moment, like and subscribe
Shout out to Joe's voice acting! Really remarkable. Troy is obviously very good, but I think Joe is the one who improved on it the most over the years, probably
Legacy of the Ancients is a great example… him switching between Foley and Averxius is great. Almost Ross Bryant level… almost. 😀
@@jamesthelimey1738 I need to go back and watch that series, thanks!
It seems unbelievable to me when he mentioned that the first time he ever did a character voice was for Lorc. He's so good at them now!
Hubert's confession got me laugh-crying, son of a...
I love Kate so much. "Reading puts me to sleep." Is so real
And just like that, suddenly the characters click and I like them, now. Abject failure and meaningless death in a random encounter got them to bond, actually discuss the central issue of the campaign, and stopped them being quite so cryptic about who they are. Gatewalkers is now reminding me of the early seasons of Lost with the stranding in an exotic setting and convoluted backgrounds of seemingly random characters thrown together. Also, Troy as Ricky Gervais as David Brent as an anthropomorphic hedgehog (with a cloaca) is comedy gold.
For a just a moment I was actually envisioning Matthew's character's really cool coat flowing almost like the supernatural mistcloaks, in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn universe. Before Sydney's interjection 🤣🤣🤣. I think she may have also been thinking back to older generations of flashers that were probably even more common before the age of mini camera phones everywhere. - It was once truly the Wild West of flashers, and Pedo salesmen, bringing it all back to the dramatic duster.
Fellow Cosmere fan spotted 🫵
That saxophone riff has become my Friday morning ritual
In my 110 sessions long campaign, we lost 2 characters at session 3. At that point I was considering if I want to continue or just start over, but we kept going and had the best campaign ever (and like 5 or 6 PCs dying later on).
Wow Troy. What a simple but very good question up top. I got involved when I was 14 after being told all my life how evil it was. The first time I saved a townsperson from a kobold I was *hooked*. I loved being the hero. still do. But I also love the collaborative energy when making the stories.
Excellent episode. The perfect comeback from the heavyness of the last teo weeks. The last 15 minutes was truly stellar content!
Best pre-show Bant ever. Thank you for that. It got me thinking about why I play TTRPGs, and my answers were the same as many of yours. You all have SO MANY talented folks there, and yet you love the same things I do. Thank you for bringing this to life.
And that episode! WOW!! Did anyone else find themselves weeping ACTUAL TEARS for a fictional character? SO SO good.
I'm so happy I discovered the GCP, this episode was one of my favorites! Ya'll are amazing, perfectly balancing humor and heartfelt moments.
Also, I don't care what people say, I love Hubert Hedge.
Hubert is the best
Fun Episode everyone brought their a game tonight.

The Flashbacks where great the Lucky and Talitha one was really bittersweet.
The Buggles and Zephyr one was Wonderful.
It was great to learn more about Brother Ramius. Getting to know these Characters better was really Interesting.
I started listening to GCP, after I binged the live play Adventure Zone series, and I was looking for the next awesome live play to listen to and just happened across a youtube short of GCP season 2 and was instantly hooked. im starting to listen to season one giant slayers now while following season two fanaticly
Welcome to the Naish!
This was how I started as well! I listened to the first adventure zone and loved it when it came out. I finished it, and I was like I need more of this content. I stumbled across GCP season 1 while they were like a year in and have been hooked since 2018 on these guys.
Welcome aboard!
I've re-watched the moment when Hubert shares his personal fact multiple times and I cry with laughter each time, the timing, delivery and then each person's reaction is just amazing.
The best part is when he goes "I've never told anyone this...", the camera cuts to Troy, but you can hear everyone around the table going "Oh no no no no no"
I'm so pumped about Matthew's new character! On a similar note, gosh darnit Sydney 🤣
Awesome ep! One of my favorites of the season.... and I LOVE this season. I'm catching up on a Strange Aeons while waiting for each weekly episode of this, but I'll be caught up soon! then what!? back to how I met you... Androids & Aliens! GCP rocks my socks off!
as a listener since 2016, episodes like this make me grateful y'all decided to put more emphasis on video. 😌
Fantastic opening banter. ❤ I’m a joe all the way. I laugh hard and enjoy making stories
Asta stirs the pudding pot
Best pre-game bant in a long, long time ❤❤❤
We love some GCP!
Sometimes you get so into TTRPGs that you end up making them as a full-time job.
One can keep dreaming. I have got a bunch of friends with whom I am very happy to play, but to have the luck to find friends who are willing to turn it into a business with you ? That's very rare
1:42:38 I was just thinking how well Troy will let an emotional scene run but will always save something for the end of it and then this happened 😁
What a spectacular episode! Such heartbreak and humor interwoven together, and that ending, OMG, that ending. Sydney, "does it have pockets on the inside, like a....." 😂😂😂 so funny! Brilliant! ❤
Thank you so much!
I like a serious bant question every once and a while. :) its nice to escape and to be entertained, but it's also nice to feel connected to a group of lovely fun people(minus troy).
At the risk if raising the bar for nerding out online, if they're on another planet in the same solar system, the constellations wouldn't be significantly different. Only the positions of other bodies within that system would be noticeably altered.
Constellations visible from earth are made up of bodies which are many many light years from our sun, and would look basically identical on Mars as they would on Earth. The change in viewing location would be similar to what would be noticeable if someone looking at a cloud in the sky took a small step in any direction, assuming it's a calm day and the cloud isn't moving noticeably.
I always wanted to play RPGs. Growing up i was extremely introverted and had no more than 1 friend at a time. I voraciously read, had family game night playing all the old folk games backgammon, trivial pursuit, scrabble, but always wanted to play the games I saw in the book store and hobby shops. I was too poor to buy these for myself so would just thumb through them and leave. I day dreamed all the time and would put myself in the books, movies, and comics I saw. I was literally designing RPG long before I ever saw or played one since I had no friend's that did. Wasn't to I went into the military and checked into my first duty station where I found my breakfast club. I have games constantly upwards of 16+ hours a week since 1994. Game on!
Didn’t expect Syd to have started playing RPGs in my hometown! Fun connection.
The last few episodes were rough, ngl.
But after this session? I'm back in.
What a beautiful episode, both the bant and the game.
This was wonderful through and through. Can’t wait to see y’all in Troy’s favorite city, Portland!
Role playing is like combining game of thrones with the NBA. There’s a story with plots and arcs and there are also rules and you have no idea how it’s going to go.
Yeah maybe I was exhausted after the last few weeks episodes, but god I love these people playing ttrpgs. No one has ever nailed what a real group is like at a table (but elevated) like the GCN.
Is she humming the thing song? What balance Troy. I love it!
This ep is like clipshow where all the clips were cut for time from the original episode
I am today years old when I learned I could watch the video version for my apple podcast. Brings the show to whole new level.
This is the episode I've been waiting for. It promoted growth of the story and these characters who have been feeling flat due to not having any connection with one another outside "we all went through a gate and got powers " that's the hook, not the foundation of long term roleplaying.
They've treated combat exactly how they felt as characters a bunch of random people put together and not a team, not a group working together assisting one another to overcome challenges.
Instead of a bunch of people fighting the same encounter but in separate rooms as there has been only a little interaction or assisting one another. I'm looking forward to seeing if this brings to combat the cohesiveness that we are now seeing in the character development.
The death of a character isn't always bad and as much as some people dislike it, not every death is going to be from some epic battle. This what at first seemed like a meaningless death has finally made this group feel a cohesive in this last episode and is the greatest gift they were given.
I love that there are real emotions in this show. This episode should have been heavy, they just lost someone that they've known for a months now ( even if we didn't get to see it that) it would have felt out of place to have a comedy episode after a death.
If I wanted nothing but comedy even after a character's death then I'll listen to other shows but I want emotions where they belong. This episode reminded me why I fell in love with the GCP back when they first started and I listened to " this new podcast in the genre you like" recommendations as I was on my 3 hour commute home and got tired of listening to the same thing on the radio over and over
Thanks! We are so glad you enjoyed it!
Telitha will never have pudding again!
Joe seems like the best kind of friend to have 😍
I look forward to these eps every week now. Can’t believe how good the last few have been.
I really loved the starting banter of this episode. Wish we had more like these.
I very much enjoyed this episode!!!
Epic opening banter. 🤘 Edited: Epic episode!!!!
Beautiful ep gang. Thank you for sharing this thing we love.
Thank you!
This episode right here was amazing
This was a really good question of the day, I love you guys because I always catch myself smiling just a little too much listening to a game I'm not playing in.
Favorite ep, love what you do.
Thanks!
random guess but i think Mathew might be playing a Thaumaturge
I hope so
or an alchemist. I hope Thaumaturge though, I think it would be more interesting, we already have an alchemist in Aldo from Skid
I think he might be playing as some kind of salesman
Oh my god, literally the best banter yet! This banter is how I am going to get my friends to connect to the GCN like I am!!
I've always loved the way you guys use vignettes and it's paid dividends here. Great episode!
“Do hedgehogs have cloaca?” Exactly what I googled after Hubert’s interjection. Nice Sydney
I love this show , and all of you do a bang up job in story telling! That being said......this is the wrong episode to watch whilst drinking!!! It's so sad that I want to kick a puppy.
This episode was so fucking amazing, holy shit
Cool star wars boots too!!😂🤣❤️
This is absolutely my favourite episode of Gatewalkers . . . and it came directly after my least favourite episode! The narrative built among GM and PCs here is nothing short of astounding. Incredible work everybody, this one held my heart in a vice and just kept squeezing :D
I first played DnD when I was 15, and got my first piece of loot. Instantly hooked. I wanted to power game and get artifacts and slaughter bad guys.
Then in college I got into Vampire and Exalted with a group that taught me the gratification of story building collaboratively. Our most epic games never required a die roll.
Now, at 39, I'm back into Dnd and there's nothing I love more than exploring every crag and crevice of a new character, and learning how to become them and think like them.
It just keeps getting better.
Oh to be on a tabletop podcast...great episode as always!
What a superb episode: great inspirational banter and stellar flashbacks. It was a great decision to take that narrative detour. Joe, I've wondered before this whether at least some of your inspiration for Brother Ramius comes from the "whisky priest" in Graham Greene's novel THE POWER AND THE GLORY. If not, you might want to give it a read. It's been decades since I read it, but it sure feels like the two characters share some DNA.
A very special episode of The Glass Cannon Podcast.
Speaking of how many X level of class are there in the world... In ye olde DND for druids you couldnt level up beyond a certain level unless the druid that held that level would die.
fucking hubert, has got to be the funniest character that I absolutely cannot wait to see killed off.
He is walking a very thing line. Killed by the enemies or killed by the party.
@@sergiocolautti im hoping party
That tracks, the day you meet Skid is a good day.
I can't believe it, but my partner Skwid had never even heard of the Thong Song. We had to pause and fix that. It was amazing. Thank you for mentioning this because it was clear now why he never reacted to me singing the song.
Amazing!
imagine having a group of friends
I have a really strong feeling that brother ramius is going to become the glue that hold this season together!
if youre here to find out about matts new character, its at 1:47:37
Listened to the podcast version, great ep! It's good to slow down after heavy combat and a PC death. GCN always do great roleplay scenes.
On a side note, in Newport (Wales) where I was born, a bunch of people did exactly what Joe was talking about - grew weed in the middle of thickets around the city 😂
Oh yeah! I forgot about THAT from last week!
Matthew describing his character made me think of Mac from Sunny with the Duster
The thing is, Castrovel should have pretty much the same constellations as Golarion, since it's in the same solar system.
Throwback to the earlier eps: Fugyutroy!
.........
Bits and bobs?! I am hoping for a thaumaturge
Oh dayum I just noticed the ad at the break was for Get in the Trunk!!!
Are "17th level Casters" Skid's Rome?
I love how they all channel the living ghost of Nick Wiger mid ep.
There has been a lot of talk about how much the PCs would know about travel to other planets, if anything at all. I think this subject would have easily come up in dr. Ritalson's study of the aiudara. In how much detail he explained it to the characters is another story, but I think he would have mentioned something at least, just musing about the possibilities.
From 1:19:38 onward, does anyone else hear someone playing some sort of mobile game in the background? Took me ages to pin that sound to this video as I thought it was another tab autoplaying something!
YES. I thought I was going crazy
I thought that's just the sound of fire in the forest and the mix is more of a "fire in a cave" and there's too much reverb off the cave wall.
I freaking love Sydney she is a treasure
At the 90 Minute mark. I wonder if they are going to touch on that a part of Talitha *does* still live. Inside Asta.
as if on cue....
Matthew: "He's got a lot of little pockets-"
Me: " *chanting* THAUMATURGE THAUMATURGE THAUMATURGE! *banging fists on table* THAUMATURGE THAUMATURGE THAUMATURGE!"
I feel like they went through *a lot* of stuff, 35 episodes in fact, to be level 2 ...
( I am presuming that, in this episode, they will at least reach 3. I am only in the banter part at the moment.)
Lovely roleplay EP. Touch of genius giving an early scene to the freshly dead character knowing Matthew would be mostly idle this EP. Can't wait to see what class he picked for this handsome pedophile salesman. My guess is Thaumaturge!
Mental note, if I ever get to go to a live show, I need to grab vanilla and chocolate pudding cups for Joe and Skid respectively.
As a native Californian from a town just across the mountains from the Bay Area, whenever they say the Elven planet's name, I think they are saying Castroville.
Okay now I need to know if there's a recording of them playing this "fireman game"?!?!
this is so good, and if the place isn't castrovel I'll lose my mind
Sydney really is the new Ellinor.
Is Death Pudding a thing now for the Gate Walkers?
