Bit of a correction/add-on. Oricorio's signature move changes to whatever type it is. So it gets one, ONE fire type move! And it's not even good!
Is it so hard to program a fire-bird to have fire moves besides ONE!?

Revelation dance is pretty good, and thats the point of oricorio to be fair, its other forms dont get moves of their type either, its so you cant just change its forms and have all 4 type moves.

Showed my Aussie girlfriend this and she said something interesting for Talonflame.
Apparently there are hawks in the Australian outback that use the naturally occurring fires to hunt their prey.
They collect branches and then carry them to an area near their prey. By dropping them onto dry grass and sticks, the hawks literally smoke and burn out their prey from their holes.
They are also a massive pain for firefighters, who can’t predict when a fire will pop up, but if no obvious cause is visible, a lot of the reasons are put down to these birds.
So, alongside literally everything in Australia being poisonous, venomous or just downright deadly, there are also BIRDS THAT DELIBERATELY SET FIRE TO STUFF.
    Damn nature. You scary.

About Oriciorio, i am Spanish from Spain. In our culture Flamenco as you said comes for the world Flama (Flame) and it is related to the gypsy ethnic group called in ancient times "Flamencos" because of their considered fiery temperament.
Also the Flamenco dance style is considered a very passionate one. We often descrive a very skilled flamenco dancer as "pure fire". Also, most of the traditional Flamenco dresses are red, and sometimes it gives the ilussion of being on fire while they dance wearing it.
Besides, Flamenco has a lot of versions. I've personally saw some of them who also used fans with red/orange/yellow fabric to make the ilussion as if the dancer controls actual fire.
So yes, i personally find understandable and awesome that Oriciorio Passionate form is based on Flamenco Dancers and it is a fire type.

    • @mmmchkplss1203
      @mmmchkplss1203 5 лет назад +47

I think the fact that Oricorio only has one fire type move just adds to the dancer idea. Flamenco dancers don't actually use fire, so why should Oricorio?

Oricorio is unable to learn natural fire moves because of its mechanic. Imagine being able to slap flamethrower/thunderbolt/shadow ball/psychic on a birb that looks like neither of those types

    • @isaacargesmith8217
      @isaacargesmith8217 5 лет назад +24

@@Kastor774 To be fair most pokemon can learn a lot of moves that arent their typing already and it's not like game freak has been stopped by things like design when it comes to adding moves that dont make sense. Just look at all the armless pokemon with punching moves. Octilary and slowking both can learn flamethrower in fact. In fact even pokemon like Slurpluff can learn flamethrower and that thing's a fairy type. Even a grass type like gourgiest can learn that. Heck Lapras and gyarados both can learn thunderbolt. Even the nidoran family can even though they're ground poison. Don't even get started on psychic because that one makes no sense half the time with pokemon like Venomoth, Mothim, and Corsola among others learning that. Shadow balls even weirder since a lot of normal types can learn it like Kangaskhan and Exploud on top of the fact other weird choices like the Eevee line, Abomasnow, again corsola, and many others learn it. It really woudlnt be unreasonable for a bird to be able to learn all those moves on top of its signature move.

Flamenco is always seen as a passionate dance and the dance and the music often represents very passionate sentiments, even "fiery" ones and fire is often used as symbol and metaphor in flamenco lyrics. I know this is an old video, but Incineroar is based off a heel, bad guy in wrestling, hence the species name. The point of a heel is to give the audience someone to root against. The boos they elicit is referred too as "heat." Which makes them stronger. There was an anime that featured a wrester named Tiger Mask. And yeah, he was a heel. Shoutout to PokeKellz and Alex from The Dex for the lesson in pop culture.

you got Victini wrong. you got it wrong in the psychic pokemon video also.
as you mentioned, Victini is related to Nike and Victoria (greek and roman respectively).
but it is fire because it represents the Promethean flame also known as the Olympian flame. or the fire of creation that Prometheus stole from the forge of the God Hephaestus. hence V-Create being a fire move with the word "create" in it's name.
the olympian flame also represents victory as it gets lit right before the olympic games and is extinguished at the closing ceremony.
Victini is fire because it represents that flame, and is psychic because of god power most divine related small pokemon are psychic.

On the Simisear thing, it's also mimicking bikers, who make a lot of noise with bikes. Each of the Simis are based on a Japanese delinquent - Simisear is bikers who make so much noise they are effectively deaf to you (hear no evil), Simisage is Yankii who are loud talkers who say nothing of important (speak no evil), and Simipour is... I forget the term but they are essentially valley girls blinded by their obsession with fashion (see no evil)

Actually, the whole hot-blooded thing is enough to make Victini a fire type, if Japanese symbolism and culture is acceptable. Fire is often used in media to represent bravery and victory - so much so that fire's a huge focus of the anime series Mobile Fighter G Gundam, where it seems it's literally weaponising bravery and desire to win.
...as for Oricorio, it's type switching is JUST for Revelation Dance. Nothing else. But the type makes sense, because of the dance style's Spanish origins, and general symbolism of passion (which, regardless of the emotion is represented by FIRE). It's just a shame it doesn't learn other moves of its type, or that may benefit from its type.

Japanese symbolism is more than just acceptable. The whole game was developed in Japan, so that local culture is going to be the primary focus for most design decisions... and some people seem to either forget or ignore that many Pokemon in general are based on puns, so the "flame" in flamenco is being used as exactly that.

It's worth noting that Incineroar's fire typing is also a literal interpretation of "heat" in wrestling. Being a heel (bad guy wrestler), he is intentionally characterizing himself to be disliked by the audience, and the reactions (booing, etc.) is called heat. And Incineroar gets more powerful from this, as the Pokédex states (Heels also are shown to perform better when they receive more heat). Not to mention, this also makes it the fire starter with the best reasoning for having Blaze as its Ability (losing, or being bad at fighting can be a reason for getting heat in wrestling, so being damaged = more power ties into all this as well).

Unrelated to the topic of this video, but being a heel wrestler is also why it's a Dark type rather than Fighting (thank Mew). Heels are the 'bad guys' that often use dirty tricks and tactics (not necessarily CHEATING but hardly honorable), and their character is often portrayed as being sinister or corrupt 'dark' versions of normal 'face' wrestlers.
Plus Dark is weak to Fighting, and Heels exist to be awesome by making you want to beat them up in a match.

I think incineroar is fire type because heel wrestles (what incineroar is based on) generate "heat". In pro wrestling, heat refers to both crowd reaction and real-life animosity between those involved in the professional wrestling business. In terms of crowd reaction, heat is usually either cheers for a babyface or boos for a heel. The amount of heat a wrestler generates is often an accurate gauge of his popularity.

Lost the will to live because it was abandoned by its previous trainer, it also was likely sick due to hypothermia and the abusive trainer beating it, and likely starving it as well. That's why its tail was starting to go out, plus contact with water for fire types is inherently unpleasant to the point of pain, so being weak as it was and essentially hammered by needles from the sky lead to it almost dying. The keeping its tail lit is basically like CPR as I'm guessing the flame on their tails has some form of life support function that can result in its death if extinguished. In this sense their tail flames are like a human heart, can be stressed and come out fine, but if it fails will result in death.

I think cyndaquill's evolution line is referencing kitsunebi. I need to start to explain this from quilava. I think quilava is based on fox. in japanese folklore, there is a fox yokai (I dont know if it has a name or some past japanese just think that all fox are yokai) that pulls tricks on human, and one of the trick is using kitsunebi (fox fire). it is said that they can lit their tail to be burned on fire (hence the fire on its butt) and release the fire ball from it to fly around to make human follow it and get lost or get injured (or even die).
I think, cyndaquill itself is referencing the kitsunebi. cyndaquill's signature move was flame wheel. when it is used in anime, it is rolling and making the fire on its back engulfing all of its body and then it slams the opponent with its flaming rolling body. when using the skill, cyndaquill is resembling ball of flame, and maybe referencing kitsunebi. it is said that if several kitsunebis fusing, they would becoming a fox yokai
for typhlosion, there are (or maybe were, I dont know if it is still exist) people who live on volcanos in japan. in japan, mountains are sacred place, and these people are said to can see spirits and cleanse people from bad spirit (this is why hisuian typhlosion is ghost type). it is said that they are capturing ghost fox as their familiar (this is the connection of this people and kitsunebi). they are also referenced in digimon as sakuyamon. the name is sakuyamon because they are worshipping volcano goddess, sakuya konohana. I think typhlosion is bipedal because they are referencing these people

There is a reason for Victini being fire type, although it is a pretty deep cut. There are some who believe that Victini is the personification of the nuclear bomb. This idea stems from the "victory" element of its character, Winston Churchill was famous for popularising the "V" hand signal (tying victini to WWII), while it was the nuclear bomb which ultimately led to allied victory in WWII. Furthermore its signature move "V-create" has the highest base power of any non-Z move in the game, second only to (ironically) self-destruct & explosion . Finally the fact that Unova is based of Manhattan links it to the Manhattan project, which was the code-name for the research division which developed the Nuke.
(also this is a stretch but the psychic part could also be nuclear fallout, as radiation from Nukes have been known to cause both mutations and brain damage, pretty twisted for Pokemon but then again it's just a theory)

The fenghuang is a completely different fiery bird from a phoenix, but it is often translated from Chinese to English as phoenix anyway. It is also distinct from the vermilion bird, which is also not a phoenix, and is only vaguely related by the fact its feather colors represent the same elements the vermilion bird, black turtle/snake/warrior, white tiger, azure dragon, and yellow dragon are symbols for.

Nike is the goddess of Victory of Mount Olympus’ pantheon. The most notable symbol of the Olympic Games is...the flame to represent the sacred flame kept during ancient times during the games. Pokémon battles are often set like how sports are so having Victini be a little god that cheers on whom it deems worthy to win and even blesses them with a little edge in combat is quite appropriate. The connection doesn’t have to be direct like ‘it’s a thing on fire’
For a stretch Chariots of Fire is a movie involving the 1924 Paris Olympics and Nike’s Roman counterpart Victoria is depicted in a chariot usually.

I think the reason oricorio (flamingo style)is fire type is because of the outfits that the lady’s wear are red and since duo flamingo dancing has a lot of twirling and jumping, the dress is moving as vibrant as fire.
Victini on the other hand is more complicated, but my theory is that since stuff like medals or trophies are made by easy blacksmith tricks, and fire is a part of making it,the main symbols of victory are forged by fire.
Hence the fire type for both
