Besides the fact that Cyndaquil and its evolutions aren't rodents but an echidna, a stoat, and a honey badger, according to Lockstin, Christopher Columbus mistook crocodiles for serpents. That theory was never meant to be 100% accurate in the first place, though I would've like it if we got a snake Fire-starter based off of a seraphim (if you get what I mean by that, bonus points to you)
