The story goes it took about a week to film all the separate shots. Behind the scenes the real gang members were ragging on the dancers but as the week went by they came to respect just how hard those dancers worked doing it over and over to get all the parts just right.

The chances for these gang members to break out into violence was a real concern. But it never happened. After all, this was MICHAEL!! They were all well-behaved, and together they made one of the most iconic music videos of all time.
