  • This video shows you how to replace an old leather shift boot with a new leather shifter boot. The video walks through the steps of how to do it and gives tips on the best way to install the new shift boot. This video shows how it is done on a Porsche Boxster (986), but the steps will be similar in a 996 and other Caymans, 911s and Boxsters. The general steps are similar to other cars as well, but consult your instructions for differences.

I would say it is a joke, but it probably isn’t a funny one.
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll keep that in mind for future how-to videos.

No argument with that. I’ve made quite a bit of changes to my videos since this video thanks to feedback like this.

Instead of a video of you just speaking, I think it would have been alot more helpful to have a video of the actual gear knob whilst you worked on it, with your running commentary in the background to help guide.

Thanks for the tip. For future videos I’ll do way more showing than just telling so that it is easier to see what is happening.

As others have commented, it's a bit dark. A recommendation would be to do the work with your top down as you'll get more ambient light for your video.

Thanks for your comment. Since this video I’ve invested in lighting and have started to do more showing in my videos.

Missed filming the only part everyone has trouble with, fitting the center cap.. it never just pops right in.. if it was so easy, re-filming would have been also..

This is one of my older videos and this was a while ago. I don’t remember that part being hard in my case (but it was a while ago, so I could just not be remembering it). I do remember having a difficult time removing the gear lever to remove the original leather. I’m my newer videos that show working on cars there is a lot less of my face (like almost none) and mainly showing the work to make sure I capture everything.

It would have been nice if the camera was pointing at work locations instead of you man. Just saying!

Typical low light, jerky, crappy cell phone video. WHY do people put this level of stuff on RUclips? Not helpful at all. Nothing more educational than watching the face of somebody doing something with their hands. Good grief!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I hear you and in my next how to video I setup two GoPros to make sure you can see everything. The problem I had with that one was the light from an open garage door (I tried to fix it through some editing software and it helped on some screens, but not all), but I think I have the lighting figured out now (I’ll setup my professional lighting that I have purchased) and will use multiple GoPros for better footage.
Thanks again for watching and letting me know how to make these better.

what others find crappy other people find it helpful! Why do people can't say things nicely nowadays?

    • @MattiusMaximus

Found it pretty helpful myself. If you can’t work out how to fit it from here then you are probably better placed to pay someone else to do it for you.

Very poor lighting. Invest in some equipment.
