Theres another type of animal you can hunt, its bipedal, and unlike other animals, its rather crafty and can be difficult to track down. Nutrition wise, its on par with some other animals, but the permanent buff it gives you is definately worth the effort.
The amount of food dropped from hunting depends on what weapon you use, for example the kitchen knife would work better than a crowbar. The butcher knife and hunting knife are top priorites to get the best amount of meat from your hunt. Make sure your knife isnt dull as it also effects the amount of meat you get, so before you start gutting, make sure to use your sharpening stone!
Just add some things. Boar pelts can be used to craft a improvised back pack, same recipe of the burlap improvised one and same upgrade even. Most domestic animals can also be chased on foot, considering they do run away but only for a very short distance. Sheep actually run for about 5 meters or so before going back to their natural pace, making it also a perfect target to kill using meele if u're desperate.

This video is a masterpiece! Can’t like it enough. I shot a stag once after tracking it for almost a mile and man that was fun. Of course though, fishing is just the most peaceful thing next to a campfire
You dont need fat to fried steaks. That was before. Just drop the steaks in your pam/Pot. Use water with the pot so you boiled the meat. You fish early in the morning you have more chances added to fish with a worm. You kill one of the big wolves. The white one there is a chance the rest will flee.
I enjoy the hunter life. So easy to live long time living of the land. Going into the towns or villages only set you up for ambush. I like having full hunter gear, best and a nice hide out to cook and store gear
Water bottle fish traps are very clutch if you can spare one. New players should really consider this if you are really struggling with food. Not tons of food but may be easier to manage if you are struggling making a pole.
I good gun I recommend to hunt deer in this game is the blaze (Only ever shot deer and goats with it so I dont really know what the damage is like on other animals) and since it has a single mode and a double mode to take down the kill faster. Although it is louder firing both shots at once but if you could quickly grab your meat, fat, pelt, ect and leave its a pretty good gun to hunt with.

Yo Asmonidain! I am fan of yours! The animation around 2:44 I believe is simply the gun being pulled back against a surface, like if you bumped into a wall, in this case the tree... Honestly when I was in Free Camera view in VPP Admin Tools the character just sort of did that, but I thought it looked cool so kept it! Hah!

With the latest update, eating wolf or bear meat makes us sick! Could it be that eating the meat after taking a vitamin, prevents us from getting sick (when drinking water or eating with bloody hands, this would help us not to get sick)? I didn't notice if it was said in the video, but chicken is the only animal that doesn't rot if carried whole in the inventory (potato also doesn't rot)!
Nothing like finding a nice stag early on to fuel a trip across the map, personally liking either pioneer or longhorn for hunting for quiet shots(pioneer) or inventory size(longhorn in a holster) but I'm not against chasing a cow with an axe if i have too, and if I'm staying near the coast its fishing after chicken for bones

Honestly, if you want to just keep the food/water up without worrying about it. Gather as much fruit as possible, especially dry fruit and store it in a stick shelter. This is the easiest way and laziest way to survive in Dayz.
the thing i have found is that when you shoot an animal you lose part of the steaks but if you run an animal over with a car or truck then all the steaks are pristien
I cant find one for community servers where they have angel fish and bass and that. There's a quests for fishing where you have to catch certain fish for example 10 carp in kamneka but its just not happening. Doesnt always tell you were. Like Angleshark...

Are there many animals on Namalsk? I put some frozen tin/cans near a stove yesterday and they disappeared. Is there a specific amount of time you can leave them near a heat source? Cheers 🍻
There are animals on Namalask, need to go deeper into the map most times to find them. The cans just leave near a fire, it should only take a couple minutes to defrost.

Nope they are in Chernarus as well. Some heavily modded pvp servers might disable them like they also do with zombie numbers. Try to look for a more vanilla server.

Just yesterday I saw a bear before it saw me and shot it twice in the head with a 308 and it knocked me out and left. I got up from the knock out bandaged my bleeds then found the bear about 50 feet away and finished the job. Also I thought eating bear/wolf made you sick?

Does the way you kill a animail effect its % on the meat... I dont know of its true but when I punch out a chicken I think I get higher % meat then when I shoot it. Also when hunting big animails I try to get headshots. I have never magdumped a animail (besides wolves but I never cut them up and eat them) but does that also effect the meat% also when I kill a animail I usually keep the 5 highest % meat and its usually like 95+. I have gotten like 50% ones but its usually 1 or 2 pieces....
I’m not sure about how you kill it, but I know if your knife is damaged, it will yield less meat. So pristine yields the most meat. Badly damaged will get you the least amount of meat

One thing i dislike about hunting deer in dayz is you get more meat for a headtshot but if i shot a deer in the head in real life my dad would have scolded me for a unclean kill and possibly a slow painful death, they need to make it so a clean heart shot gives more fat or something.

Any tips on weapons to use to not ruin the pelts? Do you need to use a specific calibre for each type of animal? If so a weapons guide would be good or if no specific calibre is required even just noting the guns you like to use for hunting would be a good help to beginners. Same with your gear and any items that may make things more efficient such as tackle boxes or specific items of clothing like the fishing hat to store hooks. 👍🏼

My favorite way to play DayZ is always running full Hunter gear, and just living out in the forests. Boarskin backpack only for the drip.
Heck yeah it's so much more satisfying than living from can to can.
Leather backpack is a great bag. Resistance to water and it’s lighter than the combat backpack

Good point on that recent change! Yep the Wolf/Bear sickness is basically Salmonella Poisoning. So Charcoal Tabs or Multivitamins to cure.

Yeah the traps are not extremely helpful. It gets better if you've got a base nearby and you scale up to multiple traps.

Bear steak seems to be the best. Yeah I don't do that deep of a dive, check out Wobo for a more analytic approach with numbers and stats.

Nice to have. For example on Namalsk you can't dig up worms, so you HAVE to fish without bait, but it can take much much longer.

In this most previous ipdate it seems as if they've decreased the animal spawns,aside from some chickens i haven't encountered any other animals.

I do believe a headshot is yields more meat. But there is still an random number it picks from so you can get more or less still.

Ah dang. I suggest filing up to full as a freshy at a well. Then keep your eye out for chlorine tabs often in hospitals to clean water with.
Just make sure to always boil the water after collecting it.

Ah yes, my apologies. This was changed in 1.17, in the past you would burn food without fat or water. Now it just removes nutrition. You are correct.
You say taking out an entire pack of wolves will set you up greatly for food. But you can’t eat wolf steaks. Unless you take tetra with every steak😅
