1. Built to Spill was originally 3 piece and was intended to be rotating musicians, it just happens that the “Jim’s” and “Brett’s” that were in the band for a while ended up staying for a very long time. 2. This new lineup with Melanie and Teresa is awesome and their live show has so much innocent happy energy with them. They bring a refreshing dynamic and look like they really enjoy playing with Doug. 3. I was also worried that the 3 piece lineup would sound thinner in a live set than I’ve been used to as a five piece. But in the actual venue, the sound is 3D and very full vs. what you hear in 2D on you tube. I saw them live twice this past week at two different venues and both shows were absolutely amazing, timeless, and sonically charged. Go see them live with this lineup, if you’re truly a fan of the songs you will groove your ass off !!!
It's so rare to find a band like built to spill that still consistently pumps out bangers after 20 years. Gonna Lose is up there with all the greatest hits in my book
That was an older song that they played live occasionally. Doug reworked it a bit and added some really great guitar lines in there, awesome drum fills, etc. Sounds so awesome on the record.
The three piece line up totally rocks. Look how happy they are jamming together. Doug is a true master of the sonic landscape, and the band knows how to groove.
I was skeptical about the new lineup, but the new musicians bring so much life and energy to the performance. I’m so glad I saw the Keep it like a Secret tour with the full band, and it was a great show, but this new setup is equally good in a different way. Saw them a few weeks ago, Doug seemed so into it and revitalized. And they had no trouble playing older songs that usually have 2 or more guitarists. Somehow they make it work, and it’s like hearing the songs in a new way. Even Carry the Zero, it’s totally stripped down but still sounds huge somehow.
Rocked Portland Maine !!! Whole show was awesome . Blood lemon was an unexpected pleasure , I had never heard them and was blown away. really good fit , opening for Built To Spill . thanks to all . I have listened to this video a hundred times at least , would buy it in a second
I am pretty sure I'm older than they are. Which is amazing. Imagine growing up on this music and then getting to not only work with but help shape the same band as a professional musician. Fucking incredible. They play like they're happy because they are.
I saw them twice at two different venues this week.. freaking phenomenal! Just as good as every bts show I’ve seen over the past 12 years. Hope you enjoyed the set you saw too! Cheers, and keep the love going for Doug and built to spill… as long as we go to the shows and buy the records they will keep making beautiful music!
this is like the missing link to my analog sound system (the bass-knob should sound good up sometimes) and by that -- meaning without the bass-reduction button {that's just what i call it. reads "loudness // out"}
go see this lineup live and you won't be let down. watching Doug interpret what used to be three guitar parts while singing is genuinely thrilling. doesn't come across quite as well in recordings. also: Mel and Teresa rule
Dude I’ve seen them 3 times with a 5 piece lineup…3 guitars. It is absolute insanity. I’ve seen a lot of bands live and a 5 piece Built To Spill is absolutely untouchable. You can’t believe your ears
Man. Built to spill as a six or five piece is one of my favorite bands. They lose so much sonically as a four piece. But as a three-piece, it just isn’t worth going to see them live.
Sad to see how awful they are now. Doug just seems like he couldn't give a shit less about playing and the songs released from the upcoming record really reflect on it as well.
Enjoy it while it lasts folks. America's greatest living rock guitarist. See ether live. It's worth 10 times what you pay.
Sucks there's only one guitar now would of loved to see them with the other 2 guitarists
Saw them recently and they were great. I like this new lineup.
@@user-ri5li7sn9m the sound is stripped down but I like it this way too.
He’s unreal . And unknown

I'm super impressed how great they still sound with one guitar. Doug you are a genius.
I listen to built to spill and the world can't touch me. 🦅
They all sound great but that bassist is as badass as Doug’s guitar
You should see her other work with Blood Lemon
They play so well together, this is a great lineup, just saw them a few weeks ago...
The Plan - 0:06
I Would Hurt A Fly - 9:20
Gonna Lose - 14:40
Virginia Reel Around the Fountain - 17:10

Exactly. That single is too good to be true at Doug's stage in his career. My girlfriend loves that song and isn't even an indie rock fan
They've been pumping out bangers for longer than 20 years
It truly is an absolutely amazing song
That was an older song that they played live occasionally. Doug reworked it a bit and added some really great guitar lines in there, awesome drum fills, etc. Sounds so awesome on the record.
30 years actually 😁

Awesome set💗
Doug is a legend
And Teresa and Melanie are freaking amazing, groovy as hell

Saw them a few weeks ago in Minnesota after loving them for years. AWESOME show!

Holy shit they played virginia reel around the fountain
Hola Halo Benders!
Just need a Calvin ...."Innie outie I don't care"
Out of my last three shows I have gotten it twice. I am still in disbelief. It is so damn good.
Damn I love this band! They're the best band in the whole entire universe! 🤟
Solid engineering and video work mates. Capture the magic!
What a great set! I love the energy the rhythm section is bringing.
I am pretty sure I'm older than they are. Which is amazing. Imagine growing up on this music and then getting to not only work with but help shape the same band as a professional musician. Fucking incredible. They play like they're happy because they are.
Genius at work.
This is amazing, he's deconstructing himself. The girls are blasting as well. ❤
one of my favorite songs of all time and yes the bassist is super awesome and very beautiful.
I don't usually love guitar solos but Dough has a way of taking me on a musical odyssey with his.
Every time. Its definitely a skill
Just saw them in wilmington and dug is as good as ever let me tell ya
What a treasure Built To Spill are.
This is monumentally entertaining
Wow this has to be the best live version of this
I've seen them a bunch live in all different versions. This 3-piece version sounds rad! Can't wait to see them in a week!
I saw them twice at two different venues this week.. freaking phenomenal! Just as good as every bts show I’ve seen over the past 12 years. Hope you enjoyed the set you saw too! This band is NPR personified
Great new energy.
One of my favs.
Where are the 5 former band members? I's a loss without the three guitars
Sounds great!
Awesome sauce from l.a california
I didn’t know they were still doing stuff man😅
Utterly Transcendent
Very good camera work for this vid

Screw Clapton..DOUG is the true slow hand..lol
How many months has the drummer been playing?
Gonna Loose= Cheap Trick on 11!
What is going on here?
dude looks like an insurance salesman but rocks out..lol
Doug is an authentic guitar hero, but this band NEEDS a second guitar live.
No a second and a third. That’s the only way to see em. 3 guitars. It’s a must. Seen that a few times. That’s legend.
For being just Doug playing it still sounds amazing.
go see this lineup live and you won't be let down. watching Doug interpret what used to be three guitar parts while singing is genuinely thrilling. doesn't come across quite as well in recordings. also: Mel and Teresa rule
@@samc4718 i dunno. I saw BTS in their three guitar glory multiple times in multiple cities, i’m good.

Instrumentality sounding great, but Doug needs help on vocals.
They should call themselves '3 feminists'
I miss the 5 piece and 3 guitars. Sorry, but this is a B grade BTS.
I love this band but this mix is atrocious
Original lineup sounded way better sorry
I love built to spill, this is sad.
i miss brett and jim

Bts just aint what it used to be sorry
Newest album is honestly one of my favorites.
Poor Doug, he destroy hes voice over the years - maybe he should stop ?
This is the man's livelihood.
That's actually just his voice, live. It does and has always fit the music.
Never stop. No way.
No, but U should.
Sad to see how awful they are now. Doug just seems like he couldn't give a shit less about playing and the songs released from the upcoming record really reflect on it as well.
This is the dumbest thing I've read in weeks 🤣🤣 feel bad for you buddy
