Ladies and gentlemen, today Corvette World Rob and I review a 1996 C4 LT4 Corvette and discuss if it or the 1997 C5 Corvette is better.
At 6:52 that is not a horn it is part of the cruise control system.
Round taillights. Anything else is junk.
@@E.T.GARAGE yep, but this guy clearly has very little idea about C4s, i only watched half of it but it was pretty obvious by that point.
shape of tail lights has no effect on performance, shape isnt of much importance
@@chrisperry9002
LT4 was underrated from factory. A "Hot Cam" LT4 will walk on an LS6.
4:09 don't grab the steering wheel when exiting. You will loosen the steering column. Regarding choice, C4 any day, much more beautiful design, perhaps the best Corvette design of the modern era
got a 91, 92k miles, 6spd. I am original owner, have driven hard at times, NEVER had an electrical problem ever. My car is all original down to the wiper blades and everything works but I do have to replace the headlight gear on each light. A/C is cold as ice and never been serviced. brings a smile to my face every time I drive it even today after 32 yrs.
I think you will find it isn;t the gear in the headlights that need to be replaced but three round shims (for the lack of a better description) in each mechanism.
Stock of this material can be found at the hardware and cut to length.
The LT1 was the most powerful small block engine Chevy had built at the time of it's introduction. The '94 thru '96 are the best C4's. The 6 speed transmission is legendary for smoothness, being built in Germany. Zuffenhausen was the manufacturer. The C4 was the last Corvette that was designed purely for driving performance. GM sacrificed some creature comforts in the pursuit of making this a "driver's car". The later C5 was designed more by committee, with the attention on creature comforts vs. driving performance.
Nope, Zuffenhausen is a borough of Stuttgart. 😉 Porsche is located there… The transmission was built by ZF (= originally Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen). But where the transmission was built, no idea. they have factories all over the world, also in the USA.
Exactly. The C4 is actually more "exotic" in person than the C5 and the ZF 6 speed is actually a better transmission than the T56 in the C5.
Did the late C4’s not get the T56? I’m pretty sure they made that switch with the LT1
@@BlackRam17 No. The T56 was the C5. The LT1 had the ZF6 which is the better transmission but was costlier to repair and harder to find parts for.
Seeing such a clean example sitting among the later generations really makes me appreciate the C4 style. It can hold its own against the newer looks. Such a classy shape!
The battery isn't that hard to get out. You don't remove the cruise control (what he called the "horn") or the computer. You can remove the side panel and simply pull it out that way. It is held in with 5 bolts, takes about 5 minutes.
Wrap your 10mm wrench with a piece of electrical tape so you don't scratch the paint on that sail panel.
I made some clips to quickly remove the cover... Also put a disconnect on the battery because ours may sit for a month unused...
A lIthium battery goes in the back, lighter and takes weight off the front bias, every pound counts.
I know . I laughed so hard over is that a horn ? Yes , yes it is 😂😂😂
I can change a battery in my 94 in 5 minutes or less
The internet acts like it’s a terrible procedure
I’m glad i don’t have to remove my HORN to get to mine 😂😂😂
C4, hands down, much sharper styling than C5.
C4's are the last of the original Corvette designs.
The transmission is bolted to the back of the engine like it's supposed to be.
You can't go wrong with any Corvette, and style is subjective.
They are getting inexpensive enough where you can get one of each, and enjoy.
How much are your two '96 C4's with the LT-4 engines?
Take care Guys
C6 not bad
@@2GunT No hiding headlights, which I love
Supposed to be? The trans axle made it a far better car.
Transaxle is the correct way if you can't go mid-engine. But indeed the C4 is the purer design in terms of style and will absolutely be the more timeless shape too.
Very clean looking C4…the tilting front hood is one my favorite features of this car 👍🏻
The hood opens like a XKE Jaguar.
LT4 was not an option. It was automatically included in all manual trans equipped 96s. Autos got the LT1.
2 things. 1st never pull on the steering wheel when entering or exiting the car. You will ultimately damage the steering column. 2nd don't close the hood with the door open. If the body alignment isn't perfect the hood will hit the door.
Someone who is an "expert" on these cars should know this.
Yup…ass in the seat first, swivel and swing the legs in to get in and swing the legs out, swivel on the seat and put the left hand on the door sill to get out. 😂😂
LT4’s were deliberately under rated. Officially 330hp but most had between 360-370hp
1984 had 205hp then tuned port injection in 1985 with 230hp. Flowmasters were huge in the late 80's and 90's. What a beautiful car. Minor mods on 1st and 2nd gen C4's really woke them up. But that Silver is really clean. The interior is immaculate and the other minor issues (paint correction and brake bleed) will really make it a top notch car.
Hey the L98 was no slouch. Excellent low end, left many cars at the line .
Yep!
Good engine for its day. Yes.
One point that I'd like to make.
Rolling headlights and a front engine are what makes a Corvette.
I, reluctantly, can deal with the rolling headlights issue, but the front engine is a must.
With all the technology that Corvettes have in engineering and performance I don't see any reason to change
The car is perfect in it's original design and concept .
As a kid of the 80s, I do like when the squared off the rear taillights in the 90s and the ZR-1.
I have a C4 1995 LT1, A 2003 C5, and a 2016 C7 Stingray. It's so much fun in the hills of Tennessee! It sticks to the curves! Don't need a lot of power/brakes
there!
Awesome lineup there. I bet you have a blast with all 3 of your Vette’s! 👍😊
Unless something has changed from my 87 C4, the battery is removed by taking the side panel off. Remove the 4 screws that attach the fender well to the panel and your in.
Nothing has changed. He doesn't know what he's talking about and made it up. So if he can make up the simple battery removal, what else does he just make up!
@@itiswhatitis4905 exactly, he also referred to the cruise control as a horn.
The other after market exhaust Robert is referring to was from TriFlow B&B. It had a larger pipe and square tail pipes which modeled the rear tail light. I had it installed with full length headers on my C4. It sounded wonderful, although some felt it had too much drone. Nice review.
The biggest thing for me to consider is just price because the price of a C4 for a running car starts around 4k and you start to see really well mantained examples around 7 or 8k. While for a c5 it starts to go into the mid teens for well maintained cars. Also the look of the C4 is changing for me because where it used to look pretty trashy (at least when I was younger) now it just looks retro. The body lines are so clean and I feel like the shape holds up really well.
In Canada clean well maintained late model C4's start in the mid teens.
I love my C5 - it's ergonomic enough to be a user-friendly daily driver, reliable, and tough as nails. I want a C4, and a C3. They're all great cars - is simply a flip of the coin.
I remember being in grade 12 and one of my teachers got a C4. his cool level went way up that day he showed up with the Vet.
Dunno if anyone mentioned this, but you're 100% not supposed to use the steering wheel to get out of a C4.
What happens if you do?
@@bromidedrag you will eventually wear the column out and it will become loose.
Addendum: at 6:45, That is a Cruise Control Actuator. And according to Keith, it's actually simple to remove the battery from the side with 3 screws. Things relearned; I need to get more hands on with these C4's again.
you can actually rev the motor up by squeezing it I used to do this with my 1993 Zr-1 "great catch" on the horn comment...
That sail panel removes in 10 seconds. There is no need to fiddle with the cruise servo.
@@LynxStarAuto correct. I made an addendum to that in a later video.
I loved this video. I have 2 years to find my Corvette for my 60th Birthday.
I like the 1996 very much.
I’ll keep following you 😊
let’s go 50k congratulations 🎉🎊hope your doing well!!!
Thanks Lucidukers! Love you buddy 😊👍
I have a '94 and LOVE it! Just an LT1 automatic but LOVE it. Did the Opti Spark change my self and its not that bad to do. Remind Rob that you can also pop the hatch with the switch on the end of the door. Plus the easiest way to tell a ZR1 is the rear plate. There is an 1.5 inch black plastic space on each side of the license plate between it and the back up lights. Non ZR1 cars the plate is right next to the back up lamps. Cool video though. A C4 fan.
Easiest wat to tell ZR-1 is high mounted 3rd brake light.
@@tommyteeth5874yep. It's sticks out like a sore thumb and breaks up the styling lines. But alas regulations are regulations.
I know some folks who deleted the high mount tbrid brake light too. 😂 and pulled the ZR1 badge as well.
Thanks, more of these older Vettes 🤘🏻👏
You’re welcome. I’m happy you enjoyed it. 👍😊
I own a CE 1996 LT4 convertible w/ Red interior, love the car, plenty fast, rev,s 5800, for the money you can't beat it, I believe it's 1 of 68 made with those options, thks
I like the way the hood - bonnet opens up exposing the whole engine bay.I prefer everything else about the C5 though .These cars were cheap 5-10 yrs ago.Love how Rob always teaches us something we didn't know.
They still are cheap.
I have the same exact car 96 CE 6spd. Mine has the 275/40/17 all the way around. You missed the hatch release on the door and I have the PKE key fob. This car is just as fast as a C5. I've raced a couple of them and never lost. I've always been door handle to to door handle with C5 manuals and beat 2 C5 autos. When I bought this car I was looking for a C5 and had the money for a nice option C5 and ran across the fully loaded low mile collector edition lt4 and had to take it and haven't regretted a minute of it.
I have a 1988 manual coupe, and this review was spot-on.
You hit the nail on the head @ 24:18. I drove a 2002 Z06- great car- but I love the visceral feel of the C4. I wasn't sold on them until I actually drove one.
That is not a horn. It’s the cruise control.
Exactly black shirt is a clown
Love the details!
Yes Mike - I loved the sill guards!! Neighbor Mark endorsed! Gotta keep it new looking !
I knew you would like those. It was definitely a garage queen too. 👍😊
It's weird seeing some people here praising this guy's knowledge of Corvette details when he actually got a bunch of them wrong:
Grand Sports didn't have any suspension upgrades over other Corvettes that year. They also didn't all have 315 width rear tires - only the coupes did.
Bose speakers were available from 1984 to 1996, not in later models only.
Most C4 owners don't know about those door pockets because most C4's don't have them. They didn't appear until 1994.
Magnetic ride control didn't debut in the 1990 ZR-1, it debuted as an option in the 1989 base model.
The third brake light up on the glass doesn't tell you it's a ZR-1. All 1986-1990 coupes had those. You have to see both the high brake light and the squared taillights together to know it's a ZR-1.
Thank you.
I've owned both models, C5 hands down, far and away is the clear winner in my non-professional opinion.
Except for styling.
There's a '96 Collector's Edition LT4 convertible with 44k miles for sale at my local GMC dealership in Broken Arrow, Ok for $20,000. Thanks for the great videos.
I will forever appreciate the C4 for what it was at the time, it's low profile sleek styling, even the cockpit feel. Love it. I had two of them and if the right 96 Grand Sport were to come along I'd prob buy it.
Timeless car, awesome 🤩
I totally agree man. It was really cool doing this video. 👍😊
Robert’s knowledge of Corvette details never ceases to amaze me. I may have been able to tell you some of the stuff he discussed about the C4s back when they were out, but not nearly to that extent and could never rattle it off like he does. I agree with Robert that the C4 was the bridge to technology for future Corvettes, but I was never able to see them the same way once the C5 came out. For anyone wanting a C4, this would be a nice car to have. Thanks for the video and content.
Same here Doug. He has forgotten more about Corvette’s than I have ever known. This was a lot of fun doing this video with Robert. It brought me back to the early years of my life when C4’s were all I saw. You’re welcome, Doug, I’m happy you enjoyed it.
And it brought back the performance. I love my 96 lT4 converter, with the factory hardtop. I will never sell it.
Put a new battery in my C7, that sucks as well
I have a Red on Red 94 C4 with 24k miles. I love it just wish i drove it more often. Lol
Getting out of the car he hung off that steering wheel, something C4 owners know is sacrilege!
From my personal point of view I've had them both C4s and c5s and I've driven c6s nc7s but the major difference between the categories would be C4 versus a C5 they are so different I say that you could probably have them both and get different experiences and enjoy them both if you're asking which one is better I would have to say that C5 but I still like to c4 in its own way it's very special
That's not a horn, that's the actuator for the cruise control.
Battery access is pretty straight forward. You just take that little vent body panel off behind the wheel and slide the battery out through the side.
The fuel pump takes about 30 mins to swap out right through that door which is a pretty cool feature.
I test drove a 1999 C5 and a 1996 C4 LT-4 right before COVID really got crazy and ended up with the C4. Better looking car (subjective), felt more raw and mechanical to drive, felt faster and punchier (SoTP feeling), and the trans felt way smoother.
I ended up buying the 96 with 8500 miles in Comp Yellow for $18.5k and still have it. It has 12000 miles on it now.
I am the first owner of my 96 Corvette C4 with an LT1, 41000 mi.
Mike and Rob, thank you for the history lesson.
You’re very welcome. I’m happy you enjoyed it! 👍😊
I always wonder about people who buy a car like this gorgeous C4 and drive 19K over26yrs
that amounts to 730mi/yr;
I know, you do whatever pleases you, after all, you paid for it, though it seems a shame not to use the car for what was intended for,
of course, this is only one man’s opinion.
Very nice car , no matter!
I own one of these with the same interior color. Going on Power Tour this year, Can't wait!!!
I have a lo mile LT4 car. Can't seem to get rid of it........lol. You could have popped the hatch from the door frame. Lots of secrets to this car. Arm rest compartments most don't even know about. Easiest fuel pump to change . The suspension sticks to the road like glue. Dana 44 with lowering holes etc.
Just took my 94 on Power Tour 2022. 2700 miles in 7 days with no problems and ice cold ac. Lt1 for the win.😂
I had a 1994 white with red interior 6 speed in the late 90’s. It was a daily driver and was dependable but would never own another one. They were just too narrow and didn’t feel like a corvette.. When C5 came out it was a game changer.
The 3rd brake light is mounted on top, 86-89 targa tops. Convertibles got it in the bumper until ZR1.
If you are resting your C4 for a few weeks be sure to unplug the battery 🔋🔋🔋. For cooling purposes clean out the leaves and trash in between the radiator and the condenser. Last but not least do not use the steering wheel to exit the vehicle.
Thanks for this video.....Of course previous generations are not as "refined" as the C8. But in my opinion, these are 'vettes with soul, created by their individual nuances--something the C8 no longer has.
I have a 1995 c4 zr1, lt5, with 18k miles on it for sale. All OE, including tires, Admiral blue, 1 owner, garage kept, pristine condition.
How much?
Why does everyone on the internet act like replacing a C4 battery is a nightmare . The side panel literally has 3 fasteners to remove and the battery slides out . These guys supposed to be experts and they don’t even know 😂😂😂
❤love the red interior
i would enjoy watching a review of a c3 corvette, they made a total of over 500000 of them between 1968 and 1982, there are thousands of owners still out there. Thanks Russ Boyd Florida...
I dont think you mentioned the temperature gauge. It's more honest than most. Doesn't just stay in the middle all the time. When you're stuck in traffic, it will get uncomfortably close to the red zone before the fans kick in and that's by design
I have one 😊, outstanding vehicle
I literally park my '96 T-56 LT4 C4 Collectors Edition in the snow this year
Ride control came out in 1989 on Z51 coupes only. 1573 examples were built. I have one.
I've never taken my side panel off for the battery swap. Including removing and replacing the Cruise control bracket its a 10 minute job.
I didn't know Hank from breaking bad did car reviews
I have a 1989 Corvette. Love it. Round tail lights for me. Also. The rear hatch has a release on both doors on the edge. And one more thing. Before they sell that car. Please paint under the hood. It looks terrible. See ya in Carlisle
Nice. I’ve always loved the C4. It was so much fun doing this video. 👍😊
Lovely car! But Optispark definitely wasn't the most advanced ignition system in the world at the time. SAAB was running direct ignition on the 9000 series starting in 1988.
Great to see a C4 vid. Not many Collector Edition cars with red int, zillions with black or gray. To say battery removal was difficult is an understatement. As for LT4 C4 vs C5, I own both and a C6Z and they all have a different feel. Even the LT4 vs early C4 ZR-1 may have similar HP numbers, but they are completely different to drive. Great stuff!!
Heck yeah, it was fun filming it with Robert. That’s awesome that you have all of those Vette’s. I’m happy you enjoyed it Curtis. 👍😊
Battery removal is a snap as the lower fender comes of with about four easy to access bolts.
@@jeffspicolli593 Even with an 85? I had to remove a bit more.
@@curtiswangrud8748eah on all years. You remove that lower sail panel, and then all you need is a 7mm for the posts, and a 13 for the hold down, and off it goes.
@@LynxStarAuto Thanks. I will get another chance at it in the coming months as restoration of the 85 begins. First, I need to worry about broken hood cable (I have the Z shaped tool already).
I've always liked the round taillights better on the C4
This guy knows quite a bit, but I laughed when he went to open the hatch because he passed right by the switch on the back edge of the driver door panel to open the hatch, no need to go in the center console
I think a very cool give away would be to fly a subscriber down to Texas to go to Corvette world with you for an inventory walk !
I just looked at the length of this video. Hold on, NOW I have to brew a 2nd pot of my Chock full O'nuts. This channel is costing me a fortune! 😉
Lol, I know I know.
Oh yeah!!
I had that car. Was fun
No, that's not a horn it's a cruise control module. Also, if you look at the door jam end of the door panel you will see the rear hatch release switch on the driver's side and passenger side.
Shoot C4s are growing on me. This silver LT4 with red interior and ZR1 wheels just might take the cake. I do also really like, C5 Z06s. But if I could get reimbursed the 60k my ex fraudulently took from me, I think I’d buy either one asap. Need one more car to pass onto my son when he gets older. He’s a vette fan at 5 lol
Another quick way to tell a ZR1 from a regular Vette is the extra gap between the license plate and reverse lights. But yes, that LT4 was a great engine, full of hot rodding tricks. And yes, it was underrated big time to keep the LT5 fanboys happy and to keep the LS engineers from crying. 😂😂😂
FUN FACT: The battery placement on these C fours we’re in a good spot for thieves. What they would do is take a screwdriver and a hammer and puncture the battery through the side vent let it drain out to the power died then they could get into it without the alarm going off and steal it easily. Especially since a lot of these cars sat for many many days if not weeks or months because people only drove them on the weekends so they would never know the battery was dead even if it took a couple days. Still an awesome car I’ve had 13 Corvettes so far and I’m looking for number 14 right now
How about a 96 corvette giveaway lol!!
The crossfire injection was actually 205 hp I believe.
Thats if everything was working correctly.
Robert, You have a passion for the C4. Are you thinking about buying this one?
Looks like it rolled! A RonFellows trip. For 2! With Covid etc. I was never in position to use mine in time perhaps you could call for those who due to pandemic couldn’t go. Help us Mike!
I had a 93 & 94; I remember a hatch release button inside the door jam - did that go away by 96?
Great video, Roberts knowledge in corvettes is 2nd to none. You guys never mentioned asking price on this car. It’s about time for another walk through corvette world. Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you Kurt, I totally agree. They want 25k for it. I sure will Kurt 👍😊
This is The Corvette that I want I wonder how much would a used one cost Me in 2024
If I had to guess, I would say the door jam switch is bad. As those lights on the mirrors never turned off. Not once.
I bought a 84. It was a beater. What a turd. Absolutely gutless and it had an intake swap. Had to modify the hood a bit to accommodate the air cleaner
I owned probably the first C4 in Central Texas. No doubt the first Hi-Tech modern Corvette that would handle at high speeds.
A LT5 C4 and a L98 C4 set numerous word endurance speed records in Fort Stockton Texas, some not broken to this day including a incredible 175.885 24 hour average for the LT5.
This added to C4's three years of consecutive podium finishes untill they were banned in SCCA racing C4's were barn-burners for their time.
Well, this a nice one for sure. Robert touched upon the salient points of "hindrance" if you will, as to getting in and out of them. Once in, you were fine. Another hindrance of you will is the weight of the clam shell. They are heavy.
The first year of the C4, 1984 is definitely not the one to buy. Aside from its low hp, those Doug Nash 4 +3 transmissions were/are garbage. I guess it was more a gimmick if you will, but effectively unlike what most people think that it was a seven speed, it's really just 5-speed.
I highly recommend one travels with a jar of Vaseline Jelly. You never know when or where it may come handy. But we won't go there. 🤭
As to the LT4 engine, yup, if you're going to get C4 this is the one to get for sure. There's not a whole lot of difference in the hp to the ZR1, but there's a whole of difference in the pricing. BIG TIME! Plus, the ZR! Mercury Marine engines are not the easiest to find parts for anymore.
During your ride along with Robert, why were the map lights on? Just curious. As to its exhaust, which sounds okay, there is a guy in NJ, Billy Boat, that makes a dual-mode exhaust setup for these. It ain't cheap, but boy, when the flaps are open, you're effectively running straight pipes. I love it. I'd put one of his Neighbor Hater exhaust systems on this one for sure. I love to wake my neighbors up at 4AM! I just don't want them to be late for work. Oh wait. No one goes to work anymore; they work from home. Oh well, if I'm up, then they should all be up! 🤣 Also, coil-overs would be a great improvement for handling and stance and would also be worth the money.
Just on personal note, another reason now that makes the '96 more attractive now, is that NJ no longer requires the '96 model years to be subject to state inspection. Consequently, there's is no more hook up to the OBD port and the computer looking for error messages.
When all is said and done, for most viewers out there, a C5 is the way to go. I like this one and its provenance is nice to know/have with it.
Oh, an off-topic question for Robert. With the C6, the late C6's with the LS3 engines. These are 376 cubic inches. I've often wondered why GM never came out with what I'll call an LS4 with a 383 cubic inch engine. I think that would have been one helluva engine with amazing hp. A lot of guys take the LS3 and stroke them out to 383 and they are absolutely beasts!
That's it. Don't get use to these short comments. 😉 Save the Waves guys 🙋♂🙋♂
Hey there Peter.
I figured you would enjoy this one. Yep, lol, that is something I had forgotten all about with the C4. Yeah, that hood was super heavy to open.
It may not have been the one to buy, but it was my first time driving a Corvette, and that experience was a game changer for me. I owned a 1995 Camaro Z28 at the time. It was way fast than the 84 Vette, but after driving that C4, I didn’t want my Camaro anymore.
Lol, Vaseline is great for many occasions 😂
Yeah, it definitely felt good on power but I’m sure the 405 ZR1 would feel even better, plus it’s a ZR1. I’d love to do a review on a 95 ZR1, I think that would be a blast!
I’m not sure why those were on. It was definitely too quite for my taste, but like you said, a good set of neighbor haters and it would wake right up. Yep, a nice lowered suspension really makes the C4 look so much more aggressive and really makes the body lines pop!
Yeah, the classic car rule is in a lot of states. I think that is a great idea to not make older cars have to get inspections.
I really need to drive a 97 C5 and give my thoughts on it. I’m sure it is nice though.
I’ll have to ask him his thoughts on the LS4 idea and see what he thinks.
Thanks Peter, I wouldn’t expect anything more than these super short comments 👍😊😂
So, youse think I'm a "short" guy do ya? Youse think I'm a Funny Guy maybe? Funny how? Funny like a Clown? Funny ha, ha, funny. We Joisey Boyz have waze of deal'n wit guyz like you! 🔫 Badda boom, badda bing! 🤣
@@petercarey6883 😂😂😂 I love that movie! Good ole Joe Pesci Good Fella’s impression! 😊
I had a 96 CE LT4 and now have a C5Z06. Here is how I would rate them. Power C5Z, handling C5Z, reliability C5Z, interior noise about the same, chassis stiffness C5Z, interior quality it’s close but preferred the C4, character C4. I felt more special driving my C4 as it felt more purpose built but no doubt about it the C5Z is the better car
The c4 LT4 i have outruns my friends C5
C6 really fines the C4/C5 and its still close to the same design.
I keep coming back to this video with the C4. The wheels really got/have my attention, but I couldn't remember why. Now I know why. They are the 1994-1995 ZR-1 wheels known as the " A molds". I guess GM was using up some ZR1 wheel inventory and put them on these Limited Editions. They really work IMO.
Save the Wave 🙋♂
Those ZR1 wheels are what came on the collectors edition lt4 C4’s.
Yup! 👍
Just as a point of interest/trivia, the 1990 ZR-1 wheels were/are known as the "Salad Shooters" and the 1991-1993 ZR-1 wheels were/are known as the "Sawblades".
Rear ZR1 wheels are a completely different offset and are 11" wide while fronts are 9".
The Collector Edition shown has 9" front and rear.
Collector Edition front wheels are 8.5 on 255mm tire & rears are 9.5 on 285mm tire RPO Z15 base suspension.
Is that the original window sticker or asking? I bought a CE LT4 in 2014 for $15,500 in pristine condition and sold it in 2018 for $10,000
The C4 has the visual appeal. The C5 rides and handles much better
My Vette mechanic (shout out to Mark At Titus-Will in Olympia, WA) is superb. Anyway I asked him the worst Vette to own/maintain and he quickly replied "C4". Why? He states over engineered with so many electronic components and old tech to run all those bundles of wires that electronic gremlins were numerous and a genuine pain. He claims a great car to drive but as they aged electronic gremlins made ownership difficult. C5, he states much improved.
Cool, yeah, the C5 is definitely an absolutely amazing Vette!
I have two C-4s a 92 and a 96, the 96 has 36k on it, Red on Black spar tire delete, auto. The 92 is Red on light gray with 78k om it, auto also. There is a trunk button also on the driver's door, I don't know if he knew that. And for the batterie removal, the side panel is the right way to do that. I have a chip and Borla on the 96 and it's about 350 HP.
I’d take the LT4 anyway over the C5. Much rarer car if you even see one on the road.
Well Mike... i have a 1990 c4... black/black automatic.... needs lots of work... 76k miles.... like Robert said... not a car for a large guy... i am 6'4" husky very difficult to get into & harder to get out of... i was given the car... i am fixing up to sell!!! cant wait to get rid of it!!! C3's i prefer... i owned a 77 L-82 4 speed... loved it . had a 4:11 rear ratio... so car was quicker than most. also hooker headers and sidepipes!!!
LOL. C3 is tighter for shoulder room than C4.
I have the same car with 21k in my garage now/ only diff is factory spare tire delete. After also having two 2003 c5 I think the c5 is a better car in everyway.
Agreed except (IMHO styling).
i believe there were no differences in the grand sports suspension to the regular lt4 corvette
You remove the metal part on the side and then just slide the battery out. No need to go from the top and remove other parts before you get to the battery.
The lower fender you mention is SMS plastic not metal.
