- Aragorn is sitting quitely on a landing in Rivendell, surrounded by beautiful paintings, reading a book. He looks up as he hears footsteps. Boromir walks up to a painting on the wall, depicting Isildur cutting the Ring from Sauron's finger and his sword breaking. He looks in awe at it, then suddenly turns as he hears a faint noise. He sees Aragorn reading and looks at him quizically
BOROMIR: You are no elf
ARAGORN: Men of the South are welcome here
BOROMIR: (nods) Who are you ?
ARAGORN: I'm a friend of Gandalf the Grey
BOROMIR: (nods) Then we are here on a common purpose (he pauses) friend.
Aragorn just looks back at him. Boromir turns, a little confused. He notices a statue of a lady holding an elven shield with broken sword pieces on it
BOROMIR: The shards of Narsil (he picks up the hilt part of the broken sword) The blade that cut the Ring from Sauron's hand (he runs his finger along the tip of it and cuts it causing it to bleed) Ah! (looks at it in wonder) Its still sharp (he looks at Aragorn who is staring at him) but no more than a broken heirloom (he drops the sword quickly and walks off. The sword end falls to the ground. Boromir pauses, but continues to walk)
Aragorn walks up and picks up the sword hilt. He pauses and sighs, the replaces it carefully upon its plinth with reverence.
"still Sharpe" -Sean Bean
Now that's soldiering.
How clever 😄
If that were true he wouldn’t have died.
Borimir wouldn't be allowed in a museum. touching everything, cutting himself on his own history, as a captain of Gondor he should have more respect. Sharpe indeed.
Also dropping things and running away
"still sharp" I think that's when he doomed himself.
Why you say that?
Because he cut himself with something that touched evil.
1:17 FORESHADOWING
'Still Sharpe'
Now that's fourth walling.
you can feel how Aragorn feel about the sword's history and how he respects it
And fears it, in a way.
Boromir: You ever kill anybody?
Aragorn: I hurt somebody's feelings once.
Boromir: I don't like your attitude.
Aragorn: I just ambushed you with a broken sword.
Haha Ronin
whoever splits these movies for RUclips is a god.
I've watched loads classics
First scene in a character with Sean Bean, he injures himself. About par for the course, poor bastard.
Always found it rude that they don't introduce themselves
How did Boromir know Aragorn wasn't an Elf when he could not see his ears? To borrow one of Aragorn's lines, "its the beards". Elves don't do facial hair.
That's my storya and I'm sticking to it.
Well, Cirdan is old enough to be an elf with an actual beard
Borimir cuts his finger on the true kings sword, sees his own blood, knows he isn't worthy, then turns to look at Aragon, the true blood, worthy of the throne. do you think Borimer may have realised, seeing Aragon in there. put the puzzle pieces together.
When you cut your self with a straight razer
Ahhhh still sharp
Just sharpend it
Why did he act like that with the sharded blade? Did he feel he wasn’t worthy, was intimidated by Aragorn like why did he treat the blade like that?
He's a manly man. He just realized that he, the general of Gondor's army, cut himself with a broken sword. His thought was probably "shit, this guy just watched me cut myself with a sword, he thinks I'm stupid" so he insults the sword and drops it carelessly in order to save face.
1:27 You, son of a Gondor, show respect in this way for the sword of the Gondor's king?
Ikr
Lol XD ikr
He does it just because he knows he isn't the heir to the throne
Not in the books
0:03 this would have been a fine piece of artwork...
Aragorn: I think I recognize you from something, what's it called? Is it still called the same thing?
Boromir: 1:13
In the Bakshi animated version... I felt it awkward that Aragorn was carrying that broken sword when in this version, it is enshrined on an elvish altar...to be later restored by Elrond's swordsmith and become Aragon's principal weapon .
But that's how it was written in the books....Ik this makes more sense
That sword belonged to Isildur's father a king. He cut Sauron's fingers with it. Aragorn has issues with the Ring and that sword.
To be fair, it's close to a miracle that the sword ended up cutting the ring off and defeating Sauron. Islidur was just wildly swinging the remaining hilt of his father's sword. You can't blame them for worshipping the scene in history for thousands of years.
In some ways this makes my opinion of Boromir go down. He's a proud patriot and soldier of Gondor, and yet he regards one of his country's most iconic treasures so carelessly. He showed it no respect. He makes up for it later when he calls Aragorn his King before passing, but it still makes me wonder what Boromir was thinking in this scene.
0:59 Michael sword
Gil-galad's Aeglos can be seen behind Aragorn at 1:40 +.
The shards of narsil, the blade that cut the ring from Sauron’s hand!

Boromir should have lived his sword was needed in the trilogy
And a theory has been put forth that it is here that Boromir was cut, and thus was infected by Sauron’s blood, which was still on _the very part of the sword_ that cut the Ring from his hand.
It was this infection which caused Boromir to succumb to the Ring’s call...
WHAT SAY YOU?!
this scene does not exist in the books
It's a good movie-only theory. Never mentioned in the original books or appendices.
That makes way too much sense
Sauron is a Maiar not a ordinary being like elves or human or dwarves
His body was destroyed in sinking of numenor , his spirit carried his ring back to middle earth , his potent spirit with his one ring created a new form Dark and intimidating one
While Isildur father and elf king fought Sauron and they perished , Isildur took his father sword and in last desperate attempt struck his ring finger , Sauron spirit left his body .No blood or infection Boromir was just weak willed like other Men

I actually came up with this theory a while back. Check the comments on this scene on YT
