    Hello, so if I understand correctly, this tester will quickly seperate gemstone from glass/synthetic but not tell you exactly what stone it is because of overlapping thermal properties of many stones. So you need to in most cases do more tests to narrow it down. It also will not tell you if a stone is lab made or natural, Correct? I still believe it is useful for seperating stones when buying lots of product at a time..

    I am talking about the presidium refractive index meter ii

    The presidium refractive index meter gives wrong reading for both purchases. I bought two thinking that one of them would work fine. For Moissanite it give the reading of 2.00 and for corundum 1.65 or less. How can I fix this instrument?

    It appears that the Presidium Gem Indicator pen is not enough to determine or identify the colored gemstone. Is there an easy to use single device to test a colored gemstone rather than purchase more than one equipment and still have a lot of room for error and guess-work?

      Hi Donna, thank you for contacting Presidium.
      PGI is testing based on thermal conductivity of gemstones and assists users in estimating the identity of up to 31 gemstones. As there are overlapping thermal properties of certain stones, we recommend users to use other methods of gemological identification such as refractivity, microscope to ascertain the identity of the stone. In the event of doubt, we recommend taking the stone to a reputable gemological laboratory for further analysis.

    Can you use the presidium refractive index meter with a stone that is in a setting?

    • @presidiuminstruments
      @presidiuminstruments  Год назад +1

      Hi CAZ, thank you for contacting Presidium. User will need to place the table of the stone directly on top of the sensor and thus, this can only be used on loose gemstone. For mounted gemstones, the prongs or setting will not allow this and thus, it cannot be used on them.

    Gives wrong reading every time. I have two - both are reading inaccurately. It worked fine the first few months, then it is giving wrong readings for both. They do not tell us how to calibrate this instrument. Waste of money.
