Between Minus One, Monarch and this, I'm glad the Godzilla series is flexing its strengths in variety between being serious and Showa-level nutty. There couldn't be a better time to be a kaiju fan.

The folks calling this "dumb fun" are demonstrating very, very, very low standards for their genre movie tastes. This trailer really looks like a steaming pile of 💩 @@rimosabysswalker3206
@@rimosabysswalker3206That’s not fair, if you really love this franchise then you can endure and love both sides of the franchise if you’re a real fan of it.
I think one of the things that makes Godzilla so great is how many ways he can be portrayed. Serious/goofy. Hero/Villain. Seeing Minus One yesterday and then this trailer today really hammers that home and I love it. I get that some people are really just die hards for one style/portrayal of Godzilla and that's fine. I'm just excited to see more Godzilla in general and I guess that makes me more accepting of new design/story ideas for him. This will probably be the last American movie for a while. (because let's be real, with how negative this initial reaction is, it's not gonna do well in the box office) and who knows how long Toho will take between movies again. So, instead of looking for negatives or overthinking things, I'm just gonna enjoy the wacky ride while I can lol.
@@BigActionBill This is especially awkward for both Monarch and the Skull Island animated series since Skull Island hinted at a second season, and a website accidentally revealed that there will be a second season for Monarch that's likely coming out sometime after GxK.
I think what would make this movie great is if Godzilla and Kong recreate the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers handshake. Other than that I’m just watching this for a good time
@muffinknight8101 I think it worked, though. The Raids Again Godzilla is a new Godzilla who overcomes that weakness in Mothra vs Godzilla and only becomes stronger as the Showa era goes on.
I can understand not being a fan of the new look of Godzilla but I dig it. It gives off a nice Godzilla 2000 vibe which is one of my favorite designs of the Big G. But like you said it could be a temporary power up than he'll go back to blue you never know.
I'm not a fan of the new pink/magenta Godzi and Kong's new gauntlet. I'm worried on how Monsterverse lore will go after hollow earth because they basically give Godzilla and Kong their own race of species which ties directly to your comment on the lore (either intentionally or unintentionally) making Godzilla and Kong no longer special.
though the species of giant ape looks to be different than Kong, theyre all red including the main bad and the little dude. So kong probably is still the last of his race and these red apes are more distant in relation.
Yeah i agree Kong Skull Island and even Godzilla vs Kong implied heavy that Kong is the Last of His species so this hole there are Multiple other kongs for some reasons is completly Out of Lore ,confuses the Shit Out of Fans and is Just the Most unrealistic and Most stupid desision they ever Made. Even the apearing of scar King now is so Out of context and never ever did any movie before hinted at the existence of a second ape species in the Timeline since 2014. And GvK was set 5 years after the Battle of Boston and 10 years after the Chicago devastation Event. Sooo where was that Red urang utan in the ghidorah wake Up all Titans to destroy earth Event? Yeah Kong couldnt leave Skull Island because of the storm that slowly destroyed Skull Island. Another Thing is when the Skull crawlers invaded Skull Island from INSIDE the hollow earth where was the Red Ape back than, did He sleep in the deepths of hollow earth why now and i believe new Empire will Take place 5 years after the end of GvK. Sooo many plotholes and unanswered questions from a movie that isnt even in Theaters and the Trailer didnt Help either
@@andrewinter4244Honestly about the whole situation with why the other Kong species didn’t respond to the alpha call was probably because you don’t have to answer to it and submit as a Titan. Remember, Mothra also didn’t respond when she easily could’ve. Also all creatures that did respond to the alpha call were located on the surface world, they weren’t stuck in the hollow earth since they were all in a state of slumber before Ghidorha (sorry for the bad spelling) woke them up to submit to their new alpha. The newest movie hasn’t came out so there’s probably more things to it, such as the new titan that’s supposed to be Godzilla’s newest rival also probably playing a massive influence on things.
It’s very weird for me as I never expected them to return to the more Showa era style of things. I’m personally all for it because those are the movies I grew up with. Obviously watched the original films as well as the Heisei films and loved those equally as a kid. I’m just sitting here being like “as long as Gigan, Anguirus, and Destoroyah show up eventually, I’ll be fine” lol
This movie would’ve automatically been better received if they had toho Kaiju. I really wish toho wouldn’t be greedy with the right to their Kaiju, as the last two Godzilla movies have only featured him, so why not let Legendary have access to the full might of the toho roster. Space Godzilla would’ve been so much cooler than bigger monke and freeze lizard, but whatever. Pretty sure this will be one of the movies of all time and nothing more.
My standards for Godzilla movies has risen with Minus One, we know you can make a good Godzilla movie without hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s plain out lazy if they didn’t try with this movie. We’ll see. Maybe I eat my words
As I said in my own comment, bringing back megalon in the hollow earth setting would be SO fitting. They could even put king Kong in a robot suit and call him jet jaguar since the actual jet jaguar was mistakenly called "kong" in some promotional material in the 70's
Great thoughts bro. I'm definitely going to see it but admit I'm not as excited as I was for GvK. The showa era is also my favorite so I don't mind the all out camp as long as the story is good and the kaiju get their moments. Goji's changes are a bit drastic but I see what they were going for with the design looking like Godzilla 2000 plus purple which represents royalty
Legendary is speed running the Showa era and we are indeed at vs. Megalon/Gigan. I now fully understand my father's disappoint when the TV Guide said Godzilla ('56) was on at 2am and G vs. Gigan was on instead.
I think you're right about the Monsterverse moving into a Showa style territory. And of course I feel like most G-Fans remember the Showa Era fondly but I also feel like there are those of us who are more than happy to leave that style in the past. I know I'm one of em lol I love the Showa Era with Vs. Gigan being one of my favorites (Bill is probably cringing at me right now 😅) but yeah, I think the time for that cheese & silliness is gone. I really wish we could've remained in the more serious areas. But I'm happy for anyone who's stoked for this over-the-top material.
Idk, after the success of Minus One, Godzilla fans seem to recently have been eating up a more serious toned Godzilla. The Monsterverse moves toward what tone is working at the time, so they likely will move to a more serious direction after this movie (also with the success of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters)
I'm in the boat of just being happy to see the Monsterverse keep going. We've got Monarch airing right now, which is playing the giant monster thing pretty straight, Minus One just came out and had all the gravitas of the 1954 classic, so to also be getting a very silly Godzilla/Kong teamup with kaiju-sized cybernetics and Godzilla going through a pink phase to defeat a giant orangutan is just an embarrassment of riches as a fan of giant monsters
I love your videos man and love how you make a video right away too with your thoughts. I agree with pretty much everything you said. Idk why this movie exists lol
This series has essentially become my version of Fast & The Furious. Just pure dumb entertainment and I’m going to eat all of the popcorn watching this thing.
I didn't watch the trailer until this morning, and I had so many thoughts, one of them being that I just hate the way Western trailers are cut anymore. The way pop or classic rock songs are reinterpreted to sound the exact same, the cuts to black, just... the formula, so I have no clue if I think this movie looks mediocre or the trailer itself is just mediocre. It's probably the top reason I cannot get hyped for nearly any Western film anymore. The second thought was that Godzilla feels like it's a new Transformers, in that it is loosely based on the original property but is basically being made by people that claim respect for the source material but don't really have it. Gareth Edwards I believe really liked Godzilla, and if you watch the behind-the-scenes of that film you can really get that vibe that the team understood what made Godzilla such a resilient monster. I feel like as time passes and they make more of these, my fondness for that first film grows. Everything else is just some generic blockbuster shlock using the doppleganger of characters I once loved as a kid. Which, I think may be where I'm somewhat like you, only with Godzilla: King of the Monsters I felt like it embodied everything Godzilla 2014 was accused of: too much time on the humans, and whenever the monsters started fighting it would shift attention to the humans instead. You had some good moments, sure, but on the whole the human element in Godzilla 2014 ironically exists for the sake of providing a perspective to where the monsters will be: it's actually a movie about the monsters, not the humans. I'm just not jazzed for this. I didn't have time to catch Godzilla Minus One this weekend, but I bought my ticket for this coming Saturday. To me, that's the next Godzilla movie that matters, and I'm glad to hear it's had a lot of positive response. Looking forward to it.
"shlock" does seem to be the word being thrown around after this trailer lol. I'm with you, I'm very whatever about this but also the way trailers are made now definitely puts me off. It's torture getting through them when I actually go to theaters.
@@BigActionBill Oh, I forgot to mention, my first thought seeing the purple glow on Godzilla was actually vs. Destroyah, and wondering if he's melting down in this one. Of course, there's been no set up of that, and if he is then they did a far worse job than the old team managed. However, that might also just be part of why this "shlock" feels less interesting than even the old campy, cheesy, or outright bad movies of the past. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah is the only Heisei era film I don't really like as I find the plot abysmal, but I can at least appreciate the craftsmanship of the special effects. I... really don't feel that same kind of appreciation with CG, so... yeah, the only word I have is shlock. Really, really expensive shlock.
4:07 well that’s the thing. Godzilla is literally the last of his kind atm and that hasn’t changed. And Kong is still an outsider to the rest of the other Kongs.
Legitimately could not stop laughing when I saw that shot of godzilla and kong running towards the camera. The recent shorts that were released that feature a guy in a rubber godzilla suit had more realistic movements. Fukin' killed me on the spot, I am absolutely not paying to see giant infinity gauntlet monke and glowing pink lizard avengers on a big screen lol. Thanks for saving me 60 bucks on movie tickets, Hollywood. Hope the showa fans have fun with it though.
I'm still gonna see it but I had the same reaction if immediately laughing in disbelief, I went from hyped as hell to not caring if I see spoilers in a matter of seconds, the CGI keeps getting worst over the course of these movies too, you can tell some shots are unfinished.
@@rjsblanket3024 yeah, it's been a bit disappointing how quickly the movies degraded in quality. Only took 4 to get to obviously mocapped jogzilla haha.
Honestly, I’m not really sure if I’m gonna go see this movie, especially after watching Godzilla minus one, the bar is set pretty high for me when it comes to just Godzilla movies in general and this doesn’t really look like it’s doing anything new or interesting that really makes me go “I gotta see it” so this will probably go in the pile of, I’ll watch it eventually.
Yeah same here. Im not outraged by it or anything but lately Iv been feeling kind meh about the Monsterverse like it should've taken a break after Godzilla vs Kong. Now it feels like they're spamming too much content for a quick buck and Im in no rush to see any of it
@@Spongebrain97 Dude the MV gives us content once every 2 years, you want spamming go look at marvel who can't go 1 year without giving us more than 3 things. Last MV related thing was gvk which was 2 years ago. That was their break. This year and next year is the only time the MV is giving us back to back content without a 2 year gap in between. That's hardly spamming when it's their first time. It's fine people are enjoying minus 1 but simultaneously, people shouldn't forget everything the MV is doing, toho also did. Minus 1 isn't better nor worst than the MV in terms of representing godzilla as a character.
@Kaiju-bm4ts I say spamming because before the MV was just doing solo films every few years and had a great finale with Godzilla vs Kong. Very similar to MCU Phase 1. But now they're releasing a tv series and another Godzilla/Kong film with more probably soon to follow. That's fine if you're personally into it but I think my investment in the Monsterverse is wanning. I said in another comment that Godzilla always had a goofy past but the direction the Monsterverse is going with it along with its hollow earth, lore, and evil orangutan feel very uninteresting to me. Again that's fine if other people are hyped for that. Im personally getting MCU phase 4 vibes and will not be in a rush to see this film
@@Spongebrain97 That's still not close to spamming, the mcu on a regular basis, nowadays and years ago would give us solo flicks (and sometimes a major event film) all within 1 year, giving us anywhere between 3 to almost 5 different marvel things to watch in 1 year alone, no breaks or gaps in between. This year only gave us skull island and monarch legacy of monsters. That's it, only 1 more piece of MV content. That's hardly spamming, especially after 2 years of no MV content in between. No plans are set after gxk, that depends on it's success unlike marvel which plans things YEARS in advance meanwhile legendary takes it's time. If this is a mcu style phase then it's a phase that's not pumping too much content into 1 year to not overwhelm fans/audiences. Calling it mcu phase 4 is a bit of a stretch, last time I checked, marvel can't help but enter woke territory, MV never did nor will go down that route Legendary is just doing what toho did before, marvel is just grabbing people who don't care about the IP time and time again, major difference
@Kaiju-bm4ts I was hearing you out until you said the MCU went into "woke territory". What ruins a movie or franchise is bad writing, not whatever your definition of woke is 😆. The MCU became less interesting because of oversaturation and overall bad films. Not because of "wokness" The people behind the Monsterverse just saw what people like in Godzilla vs Kong and are seemingly dialing that up to 11 in this new film. Actionbill I think laid out why the monsterverse going forward will be uninteresting to him
I believe Godzilla is now pink because there supposedly another Kaiju that Scar King has under his control that’s blue. Maybe they made Godzilla pink so the audience didn’t get too confused with them.
As someone who grew up with these versions of Godzilla and Kong im all here for this wacky shit, its completely unhinged in the best way to match my sensibilities
They definitely jumped the shark in GvK but I don’t really mind it. RedLetterMedia put it well. “It’s like a kid directed it and is just mashing his toys against each other in the best way possible.” I’m thankful for Gareth Edwards 2014 version and KOTM. Semi grounded monster fights. Now it’s time for monster schlock.
To me I like that there are others of Godzilla and Kong's kind because compared to them, they're some of the most strongest and resilient members of their species. It makes them specifically stand out, as Kong himself was able to confront and kill the largest Skullcralwer AKA Ramarak in Kong: Skull Island by using something that his parents couldn't wield and that was using makeshift weapons with effective proficiency on the fly and Godzilla was able to kill MUTO Prime, albeit with assistance from human characters, since Dagon didn't really fair better against her and was unfortunately impregnated with her spawn. I still like that they're giving a lot more background info for the other Titans, particularly on their behavior, designs, and attributes as each of them feels much more bizarre-looking and unique and I think that's what makes the lore grand and interesting. I like that type of world building that they're bringing out ( for better or worse) since there's a lot of possibilities that can be uncovered. In my opinion, it's rather fun and explorative when Godzilla *isn't* the only monster that's lurking around.
Bro we’re going full Showa baby!!! I’m both happy and “oh dear lord” cause this is just toys smashing together Edit: I’m also glad cause I called this post GvK that Monsterverse would go in a more Showa related direction with the wacky sci-fi elements and suspension of disbelief
When are you going to start making History Of videos for the Reiwa Era and Monsterverse? I’d love to hear a history of Singular Point and the Netflix trilogy.
They’re definitely going more into Showa era territory with all the weird B-movie stuff, but I don’t know, this doesn’t feel as fun, though. It’s probably the CGI, at least all the corny stuff was practical back then, this just looks like every other third rate blockbuster out now.
"Are they action heroes, are they running away from something?" You ask in jest but also with just the slightest hint of seriousness. In that instant I imagined them like Riggs and Murtaugh from 'Lethal Weapon' doing the buddy banter "Do we go on three or is it one, two, three then go?" Seems I was a little prescient with my assumption. According to Adam Wingard the relationship of Kong and Godzilla for Godzilla x Kong was directly inspired by 'Lethal Weapon' it is in an article of the current issue of 'Empire' magazine.
GxK's VFX team: Hey, remember that one movie not too long ago where Godzilla's radiation was pink? People seemed to really like that one. Let's make Godzilla pink this time.
I was actually pumped for this. I enjoy Godzilla 2014, and KOTM 2019 is my favorite Godzilla movie. I like how they’re going insane with this movie in a way cause I’ve seen all the Godzilla movies. I’ve seen all that they have done. So I don’t mind them going down a different direction with the hallow earth, and the multiple members of Kong and Godzilla species. I understand it’s not for everyone but I like to see new things done right. So if this movie is entertaining and gives me something to look forward to I’m happy.
Clearly, that's the Avengers run from Infinity War/Endgame. They are running TO something. Kong obviously gets his arm broken. Shimu freezes Godzilla. Come on, y'all. I do agree with the color thing, though. But Godzilla gets a power up while in the ice. I'm looking forward to this.
I agree with so many of your points. First, I’m not a fan of pink Godzilla. Give us an orange or red burning Godzilla or a red or orange heat ray power up. Not magenta please. Second, that the sense of scale is lost with that running shot. Considering how much Minus One did to portray the enormity of a 50 meter Godzilla, having a 100+ meter Godzilla and Kong running like superheroes in what has to be a 1 km tall cavern looks goofy. Third, having Godzilla and Kong be merely individuals of a species makes them feel less unique and important. I understand that the Monsterverse lore is leaning into the idea that Titans are species from the deep past rather than unique individuals created or mutated in the modern age but that makes them feel less special. Fourth, I also agree that I already got everything I wanted from the Monsterverse. Godzilla 2014 was redemption for the shameful 1998 version. KoTM was a love letter to the Heisei films and gave us other classic Toho monsters with a Hollywood budget. GvK was a long deserved remake that put Godzilla on top and gave us a fun team up battle against another version of Mecha Godzilla. But admittedly the films have been getting sillier and less grounded, which makes the Monarch show a refreshing change of pace. I have to admit that I’m not sold on this new villain who just looks like another big ape. We already got enough Godzilla vs ape action in GvK so I don’t know what this villain could possibly bring to the table to make this a compelling fight. I will still probably watch this just to see where they decide to go with it but I don’t have high expectations so at least I won’t be disappointed.
I'm pretty excited for this. I love how much of a variety Godzilla movies provide and as is said it all looks insane. Still think Minus One will be the best we've had for awhile and will continue to do so but man Godzilla running like that is dope.
It looks like an AI attempt at making Godzilla. The pink is growing on me, but I’m not a fan of the arms, body proportions, and more horizontal posture
Wasn't a Hollow Earth planned for the Showa Godzilla at one point? And when we have Minilla/Godzilla Jr around it makes Godzilla feel less special because there's more than one of him. He's also had pink dorsal plates before back in 2000 and vs Megaguirus. Skar King has the Father and Progenitor of the Titans working for him: Shimu, a massive quadrupedal dragon-like beast.
This Godzilla was already established whereas 2000 and Mega were stand alone films. So this is different in that respect, they’re changing an already established Godzilla with a big redesign. The fact that the colors have been done before doesn’t mean people should automatically like it. I’ve never been a fan of Godzilla having offspring. The emphasis on the lore is more my issue than there being more than one G. But him having a kid isn’t the same as there being a giant underground world of them. Also the Godzilla species isnt talked about a lot in the Showa. Heisei or Millennium eras, it’s simply implied. whereas here it’s a big part of the lore. The last thing you said I have no idea what any of that means lol, assuming that’s spoilers?
I really don't care that his color tone is now pink. Shin Gojira had it and bright purple. Nobody complained about that. They are tapping into the G2K design with this new one. People need to chill
If they’re going balls to the wall crazy, may as well embrace it; Jet Jaguar, Gigan, and Destoroyah are what the Monsterverse could use. Also I’m glad people enjoy Jia. I hope she’s a recurring character (most likely will if Kong is involved)
As long as it’s fun to watch I don’t care what direction they take the monsterverse in. I love series like dragonball where the story’s scale gets progressively larger and more insane after every major conflict
Yes! This is exactly what I hoped it would be after seeing the awesome Godzilla minus One flick yesterday. Not only that, but im glad they leaning hard into Showa eras over the top fun as well. You can only do so many serious Godzilla films, then its just same ol ol. Having a string of new kaiju enemys with every new flick, is a proven strategy & im all for it. I also love this new Godzilla design & color, seeing Godzilla 2000 is my favorite suit overall. This is the proper upgrade to that sweet desiign imo
Right, but the three “serious” films each had different themes and feels to them, and I think Legendary should have continued with that Trend. Skull Island was more comedic and fun, but it also played really well into its more serious moments and felt like it could fit into the universe of Godzilla 2014. It was still grounded. 2014 was an apocalyptic movie, portraying how we have to get out of the way, or at minimum, help stop our mistakes. KotMs, while the least Grounded of the Three, was ok simply because it was meant to be an Epic. It was KING of the MONSTERS. We were allowed to be a bit wild, but they kept it grounded just enough to seem plausible in the same universe as 2014.
The changes on Godzilla aren't too drastic or over the top though or anything new. It's actually common lore around the monster. Godzilla is a power obsorberwho adapts effective traits of prior foes while in hibernation. The changed are actually true to the lore around the monster itself. Every Godzilla in the monsterverse has resurfaced with noticeable changes. The changes are sick.
I’m guessing he’s going to transform toward the end of the movie to fight whatever is the enemy. It’s subjective, I’m not a fan of the look either way. But more so I liked how he’s looked and I prefer the blue coloring and style he had.
I really liked the trailer, especially the sort of purple atomic breath and the mecha arm for son of kong, another thing I think will happen that Godzilla And Son Kong will fight first and then become good and fight the Scar King, basically like the first Godzilla VS Kong.
I also saw minus one, and god was it amazing, especially the end credits when he died but i guess came back? I went to see it in Regal Cinemas in the regal premium experience, they have seats so like when Goji steps then the chair rumbles, it also had laser projection and it was loud.
Getting the trailer for this when I went to see Godzilla Minus One gave me mood whiplash. I didn't even know GxK was a thing, let alone a thing that was coming fairly soon. I have to say I'm not struck with awe by the changes and the kaiju just don't feel as impressive when they're sprinting and leaping around.
Dude I was so hyped I walked out of the Theatre with my friends seeing Minus 1, that right there was incredible in & of itself my heart was ready to explode from excitement. I walk out sit in my car I load up YT to watch a review on it and the New Empire trailer was uploaded I was ready to pass out man.
The fact that they're leaning into Showa campiness AND the hollow earth setting but refuse to bring back Megalon and the Seatopians is a true travesty.
I’ve liked zero of the Hollywood Monsterverse films I honestly could not finish Godzilla VS kong. I am so happy Japan is making Godzilla films again semi regularly.
When I first saw him with pink dorsal plates, I thought about the batman and robin movie from 1997 being a toy commercial. I hope they give a cool reason for this but it just looks so campy and a way to make him look super different with bright colors to sell more figures. Just my take. It’s not looking good in general tbh.
American audiences are a bit different than the Japanese ones. Toho went with a lot of their own mythology in creating their movies which their audience understood but other cultures didn’t always get the nuances present. And many Americans just want the fantasy and action. So I see them as different genres. And enjoy both. And movies generate more income from licensed merchandise sold than box office tickets. So didn’t surprise me that they had to change Godzilla’s design. . One thing though and very far fetched as it would destroy their fan base (but in this Hollywood culture?)so really don’t think it is the case here. Some reptiles can go through a metamorphosis and actually change their sex…. Well if they go so far as to take that idea and now make Godzilla Female… Im out. But I think Wingard just Loves Neon colors in his work and that is why Godzilla’s spines are now Magenta. And that I don’t mind.
You basically said everything I was thinking, but I think the reason Godzilla looks like a Needler from Halo is that they’re trying to go for a Godzilla 2000 like design with the sharper look and pink crystal like spikes.
@@BigActionBill But honestly watching this trailer just only a day after seeing minus one put a somewhat of a sour taste in my mouth but I do gotta say the fact that we’re 2 Godzilla films with in 4 months of each other makes me realize theses past 10 years and especially now is the best time ever to be a Godzilla fan. Between the monsterverse, the 2 toho films and the anime’s, it’s truly amazing the amount of projects we’re getting.
I'm with you: I got what I wanted from the Monsterverse. I'd like to see a Grumpy Old Men GvK where they just harass each other in their twilight years. Great analysis 10/10 fricheks
Personally Im excited for the movie, but I do agree with the critique of the hallow earth. Seeing the two in the hollow earth does make them feel "normal sized" and not monster sized. I started to get that feeling during the final fight in Godzilla vs Kong. I think they need to go back to using specific shots and camera angles present in the first three monster verse movies to help establish the size of the characters again.
Hey Bill- I want to like this, but that running clip just reminds me of 1970s Superfriends animation. Also, the motion is far too quick and removes all sense of mass. I think they got the movement right in 2014. Del Toro nailed in in Pacific Rim. I'll see it anyway, so go ahead take my money...
Watching this trailer made me laugh for all the wrong reasons. I quit the tab so fucking quick when I saw Godzilla in his Fortnite skin. Watching your videos I've become aware that this crazy side of Godzilla movies has always existed, but it's just not for me. I like my monster movies with a huge helping of misery 😂 hope those excited for it enjoy it though
Leaks say that he’ll be able to control a new titan(the original titan) and he has ice powers and he would be too much for Kong or Godzilla alone so they team up
kinda would like if with how the beginning showed the hollow earth holes kong and godzilla at points go through different parts of the world(maybe a escape sequence with how kong's getting chased by those horses at the middle only for godzilla to team up with him fighting king louie through the world as that'd be a cool climax seeing them go through worldwide cites stopping louie from powering himself with hollow earth energy steroids.)as i do like the concept of the hollow earth showing a crazy, trippy prehistoric world that the kaiju/titans live in alongside kong's species living with ancient humans down there(like him meeting more of his species/reference to son of kong even if at most i'm indifferent but really would prefer godzilla being the only one left.). with all the godzilla love we're getting in the reiwa era(especially hyped for minus/the 70th next year.:3) i like that both sides are getting the big g one that's him at his most dark/outright evil while the others him as a grumpy if well meaning old man with a questionable 70's hairdo(do hope that's only a power up as i prefer blue.) as i love we're getting different tones for him with my only big want for the new empire being bring some of the older kaiju back(like mothra to see her interact with kong like originally in ebirah/rodan or a post credits teasing anguirus befriending godzilla as i'd love to see how that'd go.)
Between Minus One, Monarch and this, I'm glad the Godzilla series is flexing its strengths in variety between being serious and Showa-level nutty. There couldn't be a better time to be a kaiju fan.

Man i just dont feel this movie at all. I Think i pass on this one
I agree, I think there’s a good chance this is the last movie. Which is awkward for that Monarch show lol
@@BigActionBill godzilla new look reminds me of godzilla 2000
@@BigActionBill This is especially awkward for both Monarch and the Skull Island animated series since Skull Island hinted at a second season, and a website accidentally revealed that there will be a second season for Monarch that's likely coming out sometime after GxK.
Yes! Exactly
I think what would make this movie great is if Godzilla and Kong recreate the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers handshake. Other than that I’m just watching this for a good time
As long as it does well, im 110% all about it. Keep the franchise alive
Let's be real here. This all went off the rails back when it was implied that Godzilla would have any amount of difficulty fighting a large monkey.
4 REAL!
So 1962 when he straight-up lost to the big monkey?
@@Thechezbaileythat fight was bs itself they had to make up weaknesses for Godzilla and give king power ups just so it was an even fight
@muffinknight8101 I think it worked, though. The Raids Again Godzilla is a new Godzilla who overcomes that weakness in Mothra vs Godzilla and only becomes stronger as the Showa era goes on.
If you would've showed me this trailer when Godzilla 2014 came out I would be in shock 💀
The last one felt more like a King King movie guest starring Godzilla. This looks to continue that trend. I’m ok with that.
Agreed, Kong is more personable. Too much focus on Godzilla and following him around would sort of ruin his deal.
Well I can see that argument in the case of Kong, but as far as we know Godzilla could be the last of kind so he still has that specialness to him.
though the species of giant ape looks to be different than Kong, theyre all red including the main bad and the little dude.
I predict it to do better at the box office than Godzilla minus One, & thats saying something lol
That won’t make it a good movie.
My standards for Godzilla movies has risen with Minus One, we know you can make a good Godzilla movie without hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s plain out lazy if they didn’t try with this movie. We’ll see. Maybe I eat my words
@@alexstrittmatter4120 didn’t try my ass, this film looks fucking fun
The Godzilla Monsterverse started nearly 10 yrs ago?? Oml I'm ANCIENT
But I'm happy for anyone who's stoked for this over-the-top material.
no cringing lol
Idk, after the success of Minus One, Godzilla fans seem to recently have been eating up a more serious toned Godzilla. The Monsterverse moves toward what tone is working at the time, so they likely will move to a more serious direction after this movie (also with the success of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters)
Scar Kings hidden power is the ULTIMATE RAGE FROM MONKE PATTERN BALDNESS 😂
I'm in the boat of just being happy to see the Monsterverse keep going. We've got Monarch airing right now, which is playing the giant monster thing pretty straight, Minus One just came out and had all the gravitas of the 1954 classic, so to also be getting a very silly Godzilla/Kong teamup with kaiju-sized cybernetics and Godzilla going through a pink phase to defeat a giant orangutan is just an embarrassment of riches as a fan of giant monsters
Pink Godzilla?! If we start seeing nose rings and piercings on Kong or Godzilla we’ll know where they are going.
I love your videos man and love how you make a video right away too with your thoughts. I agree with pretty much everything you said. Idk why this movie exists lol
I cant wait for them to bring back the talk bubbles from Godzilla vs Gigan
I grew up with the monsterverse with Godzilla 2014 and kong skull island and I am not happy where it’s going
This series has essentially become my version of Fast & The Furious. Just pure dumb entertainment and I’m going to eat all of the popcorn watching this thing.
I still haven't watched you Godzilla Minus One review cause I want to see it first, might go see it this week hopefully.
You must see it before you watch his review, trust me.
I remember how excited I was back in 2014 to see where they’d take this new realistic approach to Godzilla. Now it’s a Saturday morning cartoon
That’s why I liked the first three films.
I'm curious if you're still doing the history of "Godzilla 2014" video if you're still up to that.
I am, it’s just taking forever lol
4:07 well that’s the thing. Godzilla is literally the last of his kind atm and that hasn’t changed. And Kong is still an outsider to the rest of the other Kongs.
Very very well said sir. I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly on how I felt after watching this trailer myself
Calling it mcu phase 4 is a bit of a stretch, last time I checked, marvel can't help but enter woke territory, MV never did nor will go down that route
Legendary is just doing what toho did before, marvel is just grabbing people who don't care about the IP time and time again, major difference
@Kaiju-bm4ts I was hearing you out until you said the MCU went into "woke territory". What ruins a movie or franchise is bad writing, not whatever your definition of woke is 😆. The MCU became less interesting because of oversaturation and overall bad films. Not because of "wokness"
The people behind the Monsterverse just saw what people like in Godzilla vs Kong and are seemingly dialing that up to 11 in this new film. Actionbill I think laid out why the monsterverse going forward will be uninteresting to him
I believe Godzilla is now pink because there supposedly another Kaiju that Scar King has under his control that’s blue. Maybe they made Godzilla pink so the audience didn’t get too confused with them.
Why not make the new monster pink or any other color than blue? 😊
I love the fact they are leaning into showa era tbh. Also l love the new Godzilla design tbh
I figured the pink, was a throw back to space godzilla
Agree with everything 100%. However my 5 yr old son loved EVERYTHING about this trailer.
I’m both happy and “oh dear lord” cause this is just toys smashing together
Edit: I’m also glad cause I called this post GvK that Monsterverse would go in a more Showa related direction with the wacky sci-fi elements and suspension of disbelief
Godzilla spikes looks 2000 it maybe a reference design
Are you gonna do history of shin Godzilla vid?
When are you going to start making History Of videos for the Reiwa Era and Monsterverse? I’d love to hear a history of Singular Point and the Netflix trilogy.
They’re definitely going more into Showa era territory with all the weird B-movie stuff, but I don’t know, this doesn’t feel as fun, though. It’s probably the CGI, at least all the corny stuff was practical back then, this just looks like every other third rate blockbuster out now.
"Are they action heroes, are they running away from something?" You ask in jest but also with just the slightest hint of seriousness.
In that instant I imagined them like Riggs and Murtaugh from 'Lethal Weapon' doing the buddy banter "Do we go on three or is it one, two, three then go?"
Seems I was a little prescient with my assumption.
I actually liked the concept of the Hollow Earth, although I do think it wasn't executed in the best way.
It's pretty much Land of the Lost.
according to the leaks, scar king is telepathic and controls other monsters
You articulated my thoughts better than me 😂. Agree with you 100%
I'm just curious to see why his atomic energy is now pink, I don't think it looks ugly, it's off but there may be a good reason for that
I'm pretty excited for this.
I was introduced to godzilla through the 2024 movie as a kid and I'm not going to lie the monstervers has slowly gone down hill with each installment.
Looks like a superhero run .like at the end of Batman & Robin, when they're running at the camera to go fight crime!
This was the most Showa-thing I've ever seen in years.
Im all here for the start of the godzilla juat fighting every thing that exists along side his sidekick kong.
Shin was a stand alone. This Godzilla already existed, so that’s why some people don’t like it. Also it’s subjective, I think it’s ugly.
@BigActionBill Well if enough people complain maybe they'll pull a Sonic and change it
I'm basically in the same boat as you. I preferred the serious and gritty vibes. I miss the titans feeling more like mythical GODS.
If they’re going balls to the wall crazy, may as well embrace it; Jet Jaguar, Gigan, and Destoroyah are what the Monsterverse could use.
Also I’m glad people enjoy Jia. I hope she’s a recurring character (most likely will if Kong is involved)
it's not just a trailer... it's a verdict!
As long as it’s fun to watch I don’t care what direction they take the monsterverse in. I love series like dragonball where the story’s scale gets progressively larger and more insane after every major conflict
I like the more millennium era look since my first peace of of Godzilla merch was from that era
My kids are loving it, my daughter went nuts over his pink fins like he had in Godzilla 2000.
I got Godzilla Minus One so IDC what Hollywood does.
So excited for this one!!
I'm calling it now: Second GODZILLA!
I like to think of the red aura as a nod to the first Millennium Era Godzilla design.
I like it
The scene with all the Kongs is in the present, you can see our Kong in the middle of it all between the Skar Kings legs
"ITS BIG, SCARY, & PINK"
- Spongebob
I can’t take scar king seriously when he looks like a balding man in his late 50s
I’ve liked zero of the Hollywood Monsterverse films I honestly could not finish Godzilla VS kong. I am so happy Japan is making Godzilla films again semi regularly.
I'm perfectly fine with this because we have Minus One and Toho can do as they please. Then we have this goofy monster mash. Cake and pie all at once.
I was drunk while watching the trailer and I was hype. After I sobered up I was still hype.
You nailed it all
Whether this is the Marvelization of Godzilla and friends or not, I’m just glad we’re getting more content.
Bill you killed me, and army of godzillas fighting an army of kongs 😂 just like that would be way over the top
Lmao if there’s an army of Godzillas charging at an army of Kongs I’ll walk right out of the theater 😂
They should just do Primal Rage the movie. Kong vs the other guy is seriously reminding me of Chaos vs Blizzard lol
Godzilla doesn’t look so menacing here as he does in Minus one
You basically said everything I was thinking, but I think the reason Godzilla looks like a Needler from Halo is that they’re trying to go for a Godzilla 2000 like design with the sharper look and pink crystal like spikes.
Needler from Halo…that’s the perfect description, touché.
I'll see it anyway, so go ahead take my money...
ahaha same here
godzilla in the legendary movies quickly jumped from the most realistic/plausible looking goji to the goofiest since 1974
Watching this trailer made me laugh for all the wrong reasons.
I agree about the color change, for Godzilla.
I may wait until this movie is on cable to watch it. Dunno if it’ll be worth the price of a ticket these days.
This new godzilla remind me of the old space godzilla with all those crystal looking fin.
Leaks say that he’ll be able to control a new titan(the original titan) and he has ice powers and he would be too much for Kong or Godzilla alone so they team up
i'm guessing this Zilla will be made a chick and Cartman will be heard in the background.
kinda would like if with how the beginning showed the hollow earth holes kong and godzilla at points go through different parts of the world(maybe a escape sequence with how kong's getting chased by those horses at the middle only for godzilla to team up with him fighting king louie through the world as that'd be a cool climax seeing them go through worldwide cites stopping louie from powering himself with hollow earth energy steroids.)as i do like the concept of the hollow earth showing a crazy, trippy prehistoric world that the kaiju/titans live in alongside kong's species living with ancient humans down there(like him meeting more of his species/reference to son of kong even if at most i'm indifferent but really would prefer godzilla being the only one left.).
with all the godzilla love we're getting in the reiwa era(especially hyped for minus/the 70th next year.:3) i like that both sides are getting the big g one that's him at his most dark/outright evil while the others him as a grumpy if well meaning old man with a questionable 70's hairdo(do hope that's only a power up as i prefer blue.) as i love we're getting different tones for him with my only big want for the new empire being bring some of the older kaiju back(like mothra to see her interact with kong like originally in ebirah/rodan or a post credits teasing anguirus befriending godzilla as i'd love to see how that'd go.)
