Those were sad times for Singapore. Lived in Tokyo for awhile and met a Japanese lady in her 60's. When she found out that I was a Singaporean, she bowed and apologised for the things that were done to our people and country. I was in my thirties then and was very surprised to receive such a heartfelt apology from a senior Japanese! I hadn't even told her that my maternal grandfather had been executed by a Japanese firing squad on Christmas Island. He was working there with his two nephews when Singapore fell to Japan. My mother was about 5 years old when she lost her father.
Been there a couple times, it can get eerie when visiting there alone. The Former Ford Factory in Bukit Timah is also another place to know more about Japan's occupation in Singapore.
Much of the old Fort Siloso was demolished to make way for the other attractions you see now. I was there as a kid back in the 80s, it was one of the most exciting and scary experience of my teenage days...
Long long time ago I heard stories of some people encounter hearing soldiers marching in the middle of night at Sentosa, very scary. When I was young, I happened to enter a washroom in one of the hotel poolside and I can never forget that weird feeling I had during that time when I heard like a gust of wind blowing behind me and like someone just enter the cubicle, but then there was no one in there. I quickly ran out and that was not even night time.
Fort siloso is somewhat a forgotten destination somehow. It used to be a main attraction before universal was built. Thanks for sharing this interesting location in Sentosa.
If i remember correctly when we are in our primary schools, we have excursions to fort siloso and learn about our history. Thanks for showing this side of Singapore to your viewers! :)
Sentosa is definitely haunted. Fort Siloso was used as a prisoner of war camp and 300 people were executed by the Japanese military and their bodies were left on the beach. No surprise you’re feeling creeped out.
the canons u saw were for a potential japanese attack. once, a japanese general was invited for a tour and when he saw those canons, along others, he thought: "hmmm, i think we will attack from the north." and that was how singapore was captured.
Thanks for sharing the great video! When I was in school, we had excursions to Sentosa and Fort Siloso is one of the key attraction that we must visit to learn about Singapore's history. As for the nature trials, I am embarrassed to say that I have no visited those areas despite going to Sentosa so many times, I will check those out on the next visit!
Ojisan, you brave man! Going alone. Next trip bring someone else like a guy.friend or your family folks. Good insight anyway! Thanks for sharing this historical exploration!
I would recommend Bukit Candu (near Vivo/Labrador) and walking towards Labrador Park. Ending at Ford Factory (Bt Timah). Bt candu is very serene but no less haunting (go there and you’ll know why) but I personally love the surroundings.
Thanks Ghib, though it was weird to have you introduce Fort Siloso. This reminds me of how smart the Japanese were, cycling into Singapore from the North. I am also reminded of how my grandparents went through those hard times, especially when my grandma was forced to go bald while trying to hide from the Japanese soldiers, and carrying an infant who would cry at any time. I was heartbroken when I heard their story. However, these stories taught me how to cherish the comfort and family I am having now. Wonderful video, thanks once again!
I scrolled down and didn't seem to see any comments similar to this so I thought I would share. The Sentosa Monorail is actually FREE to get on anywhere within the island. You only have to pay if you're using it to enter from VivoCity. So you technically could've gotten on it after your short walk, at the Universal Studios station to save yourself from all the sweating. But where would the fun in that be! Glad to see you went on a little adventure on the island and enjoyed yourself haha
I went on that nature trail back in 2019. I didn't go all the way to Siloso Pt., I took the route to the Mt. Imbiah Battery and Mega Adventure. Seeing this, I really wished I went all the way. Definitely will next time I visit. There was a really cute girl working at Mega Adventures, had her hair in pigtails that day. I had asked her where the path leads, and she told me it made a loop. She gave me a really sweet smile when I completed the loop and I saw her again 😍 I got stranded down by the beach that day as there was torrential rainfall. The cable cars were halted for a few hours. So I didnt get to do all the exploring I wanted to do. There'll be another time...
Oh and that’s why whenever I’m at Rasa Sentosa Resort for a stay, I will avoid the Hill View rooms. Will opt for seaview or pool view Cz facing the trees at fort Siloso just gives me the creeps.
Hi Ghib San, The dangerous trees you saw with thorns is a type of palm. It’s not the most most dangerous. During my in camp training in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi area, the bamboo forests had bamboos with fish hook thorns. Some of us were badly injured.
Last time I was there ,probably 15 to 20 years back....For those that are into WW2 stuff, it's a must-visit...but not many people will come here.. Yup, many dark histories there....
2 years ago I went into the surrender chambers alone. Real creep fest with all the wax people inside. Felt like they were watching me. And the lighting effects make it even more eerie.
In the 90s I went on a school camping trip at Sentosa. We camped I think where Palawan beach is today (beside the old monorail station). We had a night hiking trip in the forest and the only thing I recall was walking through the dinosaur ribcage bones in the dark. Scared as hell!
@@jayshen84 The actual surrender room is at the Ford factory. They’ve even preserved the actual wooden table there. But you might be right - Fort Siloso may have a mock up... :-)
Creepy story here. My late grandmother was a midwife and had to make late night trips on a trishaw to help deliver babies. She told my mum about one occasion, where the trishaw uncle told my grandma this, "if you see anything strange, just look away. Don't stare. Don't acknowledge it." She saw headless people cycling :) This was sometime after WWII. Around the 1950s.
Pulau Blakang Mati also translated as The Island Back/Behind Death. Legend goes that the island used to have an outbreak of a disease and many Bugis Settlers perished there. It is thought to be probably an outbreak of malaria.
You should go Fort Canning park too. There's an old British Command Centre and the place where they decides to surrender to the Japanese. It's really good too and you can find the tomb of the Sultan.
My Japanese friend shared that this was mostly excluded in the history textbooks in Japan. They instead mentioned that Singapore and Malaya had invited Japan over. Do you happen to know?
Great video... it brought back memories when I first visited Sentosa in the early 90’s before Universal Studio was there. Good to see Fort Siloso still the same!
Limme be frank, speaking Japanese in a supposed haunted BRITISH fort, aka the language of the ENEMY, is gonna attract a whole lot of unwanted attention from said spirits.
Hey ghib do u know anything about the world war between Singapore and Japan back then? It is compulsory for all students in Singapore to learn about it but however I heard that in Japan the students there are taught different things and they have never been taught of the war that happened between Singapore and Japan. Many says the Japan government is trying to cover that fact and erase it. Would be great if u could make a video on ur thoughts and opinions on it :)) thank u so much ghib and keep up the good work :))

Well done, Ghib. I respect your willingness and ability to share both the good and bad of Japanese history and culture. Thank goodness the Japanese occupation of Singapore is long ago and is never likely to occur again.
When you said the spikes on the trees are like leg hair.... 🤣🤣. When you mumbled "what the heck you doing at 3pm noon"....🤣🤣. Lastly towards the end, there was the siren and you started running... louder lol 🤣🤣. Aiyoh you belly ke ai 可爱 ne.... BTW this is informative.
