    Back onboard one of my all time favourite aircraft, the Airbus A340-600. Lufthansa bought a handful of these beauties back into service only a few months ago after a long grounding during the pandemic. I was almost certain they would never return, but here we are.
    This was flight LH453 on July 12th 2022 filmed from seat 40A in the economy cabin.
    Worth noting is that these aircraft have toilets downstairs. So in the middle of the aircraft there's a staircase from the galley leading to a small downstairs area with several toilets. Pretty cool actually. I did include a quick look around the area in the video.
    Service wise, Lufthansa was nothing special it has to be said. There were no food choices like other carriers I fly with regularly. So just a single meal option for both dinner & breakfast which wasn't great. Also basics like soft drinks and wine with the meal were included, but all other drinks you need to purchase! On a longhaul flight. For a national carrier. The need to purchase snacks & drinks did shock me a little it has to be said.
    Anyway on to the flight itself. On time departure from LAX we climb out towards the coast before turning left and back on ourselves over the top of Long Beach and climbing to 37,000ft. Passing Victorville plane graveyard. Over the top of Las Vegas. Before dinner was served and the sunset as we approached Canada. Into the night we crossed over Canada, under Greenland and over the Atlantic before sunrise. Then over Ireland, Wales, over the top of London before cloud cover blocks the view of mainland Europe before we start our descent into Munich.

    Lucky you! Flying the most elegant commercial aircraft ever made, Concorde set aside. Kudos to Lufthansa for still flying the beauty queen. My last flight on her was years ago with Etihad, unfortunately never since then. She was the quietest aircraft of her generation, still quieter than more recent twins like the 777.

    • @TrainPlaneHub

      It’s often done in high temperatures on certain aircraft to keep parts of the wing cooler. Quite common in 30+ degrees to leave flaps deployed during turn arounds as well.

      @rtbrtb_dutchy4183 Год назад

      @@TrainPlaneHub what? No. Pilots wither forgot to stow or the pilots were asked to keep them up by maintenance crew. But this is not to keep the wing cool. 😂😂😂

    • @TrainPlaneHub
      @TrainPlaneHub  Год назад

      @@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 Wrong. Very common on the Airbus family. I worked on them for 6+ years. If the temperature is over 30 degrees they're left down for the reason I've already said.

    • @rtbrtb_dutchy4183
      @rtbrtb_dutchy4183 Год назад

      @@TrainPlaneHub hmm, leaving them down means flaps, not spoilers. I’m aware that some airlines leave the slats and flaps at config1.
      Never heard anyone do this with spoilers.
      I’ve flown the A340 for a few years now, never left the flaps down. I fly the A340 out of an airport that hits well over 40° during the summer. We fly mostly to places that are near 40°.
      This Video, the airplane took of from LAX. Fuel doesn’t come from trucks , (fuel in trucks can warm up) but is pumped from underground tanks and stays cool. The cool fuel is way more effective than a few spoilers.
      Previous pilots forgot to retract or were asked to keep deployed so maintenance could look at it. But that’s just my opinion. Maybe Lufthansa does weird, nonstandard stuff that makes no sense.

      I believe it could be due to movement on flight control After engine shut down with little hydraulic pressure or it could potentially be for maintenance
