Hey Mal, when changing filter when you lube the Rubber ring ( stops the rubber kinking ) but half fill the filter also, saves engine running dry until the oil picks up, also saves less top up, was a rule of thumb in the workshop in the day 👌👌
Mal, A picture or in this case a video is worth a thousand words. Trying to get a consistent read by checking the oil on the side stand is akin to believing that govts are fiscally responsible. Harley, according to a dealer have issued a technical note advising to check the oil whilst the bike is upright, but not on the centre stand. I have now exhausted my technical knowledge. Regards Alan Wilson
Thanks for the comment Alan yes it seems a bit vague, interesting I hadn't heard about this bulletin. I will check the level tomorrow, level, off the stand and see what reading I get!
Only thing I’d add… is when you warm up the bike, take it for a quick ride rather than just let it sit in garage… a quick ride stirs up all shared oil from each component, then when you drop the oil you get more of the used dirty crap out…. Oh, and put some new oil in your new oil filter before installing…
Yeah true, I guess i am so used to doing the mx bike, can't ride that up the street lol! But yep agree 100%, I have also heard the theory in doing it cold, as all the shit settles at the bottom of the oil and comes out when drained, but I always warm up my 450 prior just on the stand. Cheers.
@@oldmanspeedadventures good to run bikes that share oil between engines and gearboxes, mix it up and draw out that crap… I like to cut open my oil filters every few oil changes and inspect them too, thats my OCD though…. Great vids though mate, no nonsense crap, I like it… 👍🏻
Yuh spot on.. loosens all the scum oil and flicks it off all the internals otherwise stays in there and then mixes with the fresh oil, oil filter only handles about 0.2 psi of pressure before it sends oil through the bypass allowing all the crap to circulate the engine for the next 7-8 thousand klms

cool yeah good idea I will tip a bit of oil in the filter next time, thanks for the tip!
Not sure what that means lol

100%, in fact, get that oil as hot as practically possible. If you're doing it yourself, it's normally practically possible.

Is that a Black Flys deck on the wall 🤔
Santa Cruz, it gets quite a few comments! Might have to an old school skater video!
@ do it lol, I still try and get on the old bmx every now and then, brain still thinks I’m young🤣
Tanx Mal, I’ve extended warranty so I can’t change the oil myself, but it is simple
Quick and easy job. How do you like that air deflector on the shifter side. Does it help with fan heat?
Yeah seems to work well, it is a rip off I bought on Aliexpress real cheap!
