  • Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle got into it again Thursday night when Randle ignored Gobert down low and he took matters into his own hands. I talk more about the events that lead up to this situation and why it's not as bad as it looks.

Gobert is not a great offensive player, everyone knows this. But for every player on his team to just ignore him when he's put himself in the perfect position, wide open at the rim, obviously takes a toll on him. Imagine doing everything you can for a team, anchoring a great defense, getting flamed by the media and part of the fans because they don't understand your game, and then even your teammates clearly don't respect you.
Props to Rudy for staying professional. I don't know many people who would be able to take what's thrown at him. Might explain some of his "tantrums" as well.

    • @Blockhausjim
      @Blockhausjim Месяц назад +45

Not only does it takes a toll on him, but it also tell the other team : you don't have to worry about Gobert, we're not going to give him the ball. Which is a pretty bad signal. It affect offense as a whole. Minny needs Gobert to be perceived as an offensive threat when he's posting, in order to balance the spacing. If they never feed him, the center position becomes a dead spot, and the opponent can take advantage of it.

Feels like Randle would prefer Gobert to stand off of the basket, opening a lane for him to get inside and either score or draw Gobert's defender onto him so he can dump it off onto Gobert for an easy basket... if Gobert can hold onto the ball 😂 Which is evidenced by the later clips where Randle feeds Gobert a couple of times for baskets.
Not sure why Gobert's teammates aren't passing him the ball when he's got position and a mismatch but I guess they can't have much faith in his post-up game if that's the case 🤷🏻‍♂
Either way, Gobert's reaction was childish IMHO. I can understand why he got frustrated but that 3-second violation with the scores tied and under 5 minutes to go... followed by the hip check that he did on Scottie Barnes the next possession that led to free throws, may very well have cost them the game.

Minnesota’s offense can look so disgusting at points. It’s like they don’t have an actual system behind their actions like Sacramento or Golden State’s motion offenses. Whenever their pet plays fizzle out they just resort to iso ball. The defense looks fixable if Randle and Ant can get more engaged away from the ball. They don’t have a cohesive pnr coverage with Randle at the 4 yet and Gobert still is in the 95th percentile for defensive on/off.

I understand Gobert's frustration. As a big man who outside of putbacks almost solely relies on the playmaker to get him the ball to score it must be frustrating being on the same team as ball dominant players like Edwards, and Randle who just don't know how to feed a big. Doesn't help that Conley hasn't been the same player this season and Kyle Anderson left. Rudy is actually a good roller to the rim and he gets himself into good positions around the basket. He just has no service from his playmakers. They're not maximizing his potential or the rest of the roster and the reality is that having two non playmakers like Edwards and Randle ruins the teams offence.

This is precisely why New York got rid of Julius Randall. And the reason Donovan Mitchell didn’t wanna play with Ruby Gobert.

I was thinking to myself that he gotta frustrated because he gets these type of mismatches all game, but nobody on the team passes it to him when he makes a move. He's obviously not a post player. But he's the exact player you try to reward whenever you can because of the amount of effort he puts in defensively. Sad tbh.

What I used to do in those situations was just intentionally get 3 in the key and blame the other player for not passing it. But I was also the best player on my teams. Robert is sorry on offense but at a certain point you gotta give the ball to the 7 footer RIGHT under the basket

watch on 0.25 speed Randle deliberately gives a ball nasty spin with both hands. KAT trade was a disaster Randle aint a winning player and it will only get worse for Wolves

  • @Bezzle.

Here’s my issue. I think people need to understand there is more to receiving a pass from someone. The placement of the pass matters. He’s a 7 footer. Why are most of these passes being thrown to him below the waist? Put it where he can catch it and go straight up.
With that being said, he does need to work on freeing up a bit more space when there is dribble penetration and his catching ability. So, both of these issues contribute to his inability to catch passes.
    Also, where are the lobs?

Rudy Gobert is a huge defensive presence and has an extremely high FG percentage. He has bad hands everybody knows that but the passes they throw at him are ridiculous, either too fast, too low, or in blind spots. The players who primarily handle the ball are the ones that need to bring out the best in their teammates and help them succeed. Get it to his chest. Float it to him when he has the height advantage.

I was at this game, and you can see the animosity between the 2. As a Knicks fan I can tell u, Randle continues to hold the ball and just won't pass. He repeatedly forced shots and made terrible plays. Gobert was basically useless in this game.He moved like he had a stiff back. He also played liked he doesn't want to be there and was basically ignored by the entire team in the shoot around before the game and throughout the game. The Timberwolves played like shyt and lost. The entire game was sloppy. Edward's also played like he didn't want to be there. He scored 20+ but could have had 30+ if he actually played like he normally does. It was a terrible game for both teams but the Raptors played more like a team.

Sure the pass was low but dude is an NBA player. Have better hands than that. Y’all can catch no look passes no problem but one that’s a little low is a problem?
Gobert was wide open in a couple of these situations for sure and the obsession in the NBA with the 3 pointer doesn’t help and only adds to the reasons he wasn’t passed to. Let’s also be real though, Rudy is not really an offensive weapon or someone you want handling the ball that often. Yes these moments he probably should have gotten the ball for what looked like easy points however he’s not as sure of a bucket as other centers in the league or other players on our team either. So I see both sides.

For once, I am taking Rudy's side here. Mike Conley was needed here because Ant is not a leader. Ant is a "I'll do it myself" which is fine, but Randel thinks he's like that too. I am glad they got that 3 second call. Rudy read the game correctly, give him the ball, stop waiting until you've dribbled 10 times before you give a sloppy pass. Terrible team effort.

They were better when they were a defensive team. Now they trying to generate extra offence so they dont have to do what they did in denver but tbh i think this being the number 1 defence last season was better for them than this high offence line ups

The Champions Pistons passed the ball to freaking Ben Wallace sometimes so he was happy enough to then play hard defense all game long and screen for them.
Im pretty sure these ringless losers "bros" can pass it to Gobert here and there too
(Gobert though, should not post every smaller player and think is a mismatch though, but still, he's in the right here).
