- So I bought a really cheap magnetic stand from one of the model engineering shows. The magnet in it is very strong, and it locks very well. But it's crap. There is a lot of movement between the arm and the base which makes it useless for holding any measuring instrument.
This video is a repair tutorial showing how I made it much more fit for purpose.

Thank you for the Video 👍👍👍
Nice mod, I also had to replace the plastic thumbscrew for clamping the dail indicator on mine. That one was cracked and the new brass one looks a lot better
Hi Roel, great idea! That may end up being a future video! ;)
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the great video BLP. Keep them coming 🤝🏻
Thanks very much. Glad you liked it. Appreciate the feedback. :)
Background music is better when it's not louder than the commentary.
Excellent video! At 3:10 mark you reference a manual, what is that as I would like to have a reference like that. Much appreciated
Thanks for the feedback. Its appreciated. The book is just an engineers handbook. Think I paid £3 at an engineering show for it. I've 3 or 4 different ones. Most show major/min diameters for various threads. (UK vs USA vs Historic / BA) The bigger ones have pages of tables of sine, cosine and tan tables too, and other trigonometry references.
@@BestLathePlans thank you!
This is one way to do. I used Loctite 660 without making adapter and after more then 3 years it's still say hard as when I glued in.
Yeah I would have done that, but the fitting was pushing too far into the magnetic base, which was preventing the magnet rotating. The adaptor was very easy to make, and was a nice bit of practice on threading. But yep, the Loctite has held up amazingly well. I'm always impressed whenever I use it. It's amazing stuff!
Thanks for the videos but I agree that no music is much better. Music detracts from your videos
Yeah I'm still figuring out what works best for me. Editing to music also takes a lot more effort too.
Horrible music
