We’re really impressed with how much thought went into Herman’s Zakka-inspired home - even down to the details like the typography displayed around the house! One thing that really strikes us was how lived-in the flat looks - yet somehow it’s still very aesthetically pleasing and does not look cluttered at all. Would you consider a Zakka design style? He was my lecturer and I remember searching up for an article about his home as he told us that it was featured on one HAHAHA Glad to be able to see more of it on here!
A lot of people feel a need to conform to a specific style i.e midcentury, minimalist, etc. But I really like this style of “just putting together things that I like”!
To the owner of the home, thank you for agreeing to share your home to the outside world. You never know who you have inspired. I find your place very charming!
love this space. a good balance of mindful curation and owner's personality. literally every shot is interesting to look at. it is almost bordering on clutter, but there is a simple unpretentious charm to it! I am only disappointed we did not get to see the bedroom.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yes it's a really good balance - one that took about a year to achieve, slowly adding on inspirations through time. It's certainly not for everyone but we love showcasing what makes a "home" for different people - whether they're living alone or have multiple children 😀
@@StackedHomes yes I read past publications and media on the same space, and the owner really did it in stages, letting it stay empty for a while to get a sense of the space. it created a very organic end result that is true to both his personality and needs. 👍🏽
I would love to attend his lectures. Finally, an interior done by a trained design professional with actual expertise in the field, and it shows. It takes so much more than just an 'interest in interior decor' and a pinterest board to put together a well designed interior. Glad this was showcased here.
Well said Morrison! These days everyone who has some form of renovation experience or Pinterest board could think they're interior experts 😂 But it does take a lot more than that!
I love this place so much! Herman is a genius with an eye for design! I love all the random objects and the typography design..naming the bath and toilet Splash & Flush is as cute and interesting too. Can see his love for the 'authentic' Japanese vibe and not just everything Muji (that can become plain til boring) Although there's only one person here, it has the 100% warmth of a home with lots of love and I'm sure many other people will love to live in a home like this!
Totally agree! This home is really lived-in but truly stylish. Herman really has an eye for design as you've said 😎 Not just following a design template 😂 It's really rare to find a home like Herman's and we're so proud to have the honour to feature his home!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Catherine! Yes it's not for everyone, but that's what motivates us to do our Living In series - showcasing what makes a home for everyone 😀
Well said Natasha. I think you perfectly captured it with "own characteristics". Herman has really made the home his - it's unique, and if one tries to replicate it, it would probably come off as "Herman's home" more than "Japanese-style" 😂
Brilliant tying together all the different assortments to make a nice place. Always look forward to your videos. Dont know why RUclips recommended the new videos so late and kept proposing very old videos.
Super nice. Love the magazine nook. I would love a comic nook like that myself. Minamalism is nice, but I much prefer these kind of designs where there is a more organised mess that feels more lived in and homey.
It is really pretty awesom and look convnient, just not sure..how abt the HDB 3room flat, with 2kids n 2 teengers +parents itself..is it got spacing enough/not..🤔🤔😍👍💕
I believe this is one of the closest that you can see and compare to a typical apt in Japan; down-to-earth, non-pretentious, true to itself. Unlike the other mass market Japandi crap that you see nowadays designed by IDs who have no idea what a legit Japan home is. It makes total sense when he says a home is always in a constant growing phase. You don't "in-built" the whole house to look like a certain theme and expect it to last forever and not get sick of it.
I wonder will go crazy living alone like that till i die.. words on the toilet, words on the shelf, words on the wall. Ownself talk to ownself. I better get a life

Cool idea - but wow 3-room flat to fit 6 people! That could be a real squeeze 😂
Very beaitiful
Thank you! Glad you like it!
This is a home!
It is 🙌
Did you knock down the wall of a bedroom? I was tempted to do so, but my guest won't be able to stay over if I do so.
Knocking down the wall is a big decision, we think it's always better to retain it since having more rooms makes it more practical 👌
It feels like the Airbnb I live in Japan...
Wow what a compliment 😀
amazing
Glad you think so! 🙌🙌🙌
sick house
Thanks for your kind words!

Chic cluttered home
😂😂😂 That's one way to put it!
Abit too cluttered here and there to my liking ...... Liked the photo framed plants though
😂 It's not to everyone's taste! Glad you found something of interest though!
Unique and rather tasteful but a little over-the-top bordering on unkempt for me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this C Chan!
I find this home cluttered.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Not for minimalist
Haha completely agreed!
Zakka, yes. Izakaya? No. Dont put words you dont understand.
They meant that the kitchen is inspired from Izakayas found in Japan. Besides it's just interior, why so critical 😜
