Calling all Ultraman fans: Which movies and shows in the franchise are worth my time?
Ultraman blazer is the newest series and it's very good for New fan to watch because you not need to know much about ultraman universe and lore
Definitely adding that to the watchlist!
Alot of Ultraman shows and movies are available to watch on RUclips so you can check Blazar out! They got both English dub and Japanese sub with multi language subtitles!
Do you think Blazar is a good starting point for a newcomer to the franchise like myself?
@@SullyStreams yes! The director himself said Blazar is made for newcomers that wants to watch Ultraman but don't wanna watch the old ones or the others that have other legacy Ultras, so yea Blazar is good for you^^
Tho if you are interested in the old ones, you can check out either Nexus, Tiga, Dyna or Gaia too^^
Glad you enjoyed it. I was one of the sound designers so thank you for the shout out… we put a lot of love into it. Cheers!
Visually stunning sounds awesome those transformation sounds you guys nailed it
What a damn good movie! Grew up with Ultraman. My dad watched the original as a kid. Man all the little nods to the OG were amazing. Loved all the sounds that were added in! Can’t wait for the next 🔥🤙🏼
@@agiandilettijru only watched og? Want recommendations?
@@memebaltan grew up with OG. Then Tiga with Fox box but I’ve watched many of the shows and movies.
You can tell. My son in Austin watching it now so let’s crank this baby up. Viral!!
I love this movie, and i can tell the people who made it definitely have a love for the character. The writing, characters, fights, its all amazing and fantastic.
I feel like people can tell right away when the team behind a production like this are fans of the original source material, and that definitely comes through in this movie! Are you a big fan of the character? Thanks for watching!
The credit scene about the location of Kenji's mother (Nebula M78). It's the Planet of Ultra which is very far from the Milky Way galaxy, so this credit scene really surprised ultra fans because how could Kenji's mother got there even she is just an ordinary human.
Funfact/Easter Egg: kenji's dad car number is M78 U7 (M78 is Planet of Ultra and U7 is Ultraseven)
Maybe she was ultrawomen?
Thank you for adding some depth to this, as the implications went over my head as a franchise newcomer!
@@mohammadadibhaikalmohdfitr4310Maybe she has after reaching the planet.
@mohammadadibhaikalmohdfitr4310 it's implied she was also an ultra.
I'm glad you mentioned the death stuff, I wanted to watch with my 6 year old but he's very emotional with death whatsoever or anyone harming main characters. Good review.
At the end of the day, there's nothing too wild in here as it's still a movie very much geared toward children, but some heavy themes are definitely involved. It makes the story more emotional and impactful in a positive manner though! Are you a big fan of the Ultraman character? Thanks for checking out the review!
My daughter is almost 4, but has the mind of a 5 yr old. She handled it well.
Dont watch Leo.Not the adam sandler one but the sevem student.
It’s well timed for Father’s Day
They definitely knew what they were doing by releasing it on Father's Day weekend...Thanks for watching the review!
Loved watching it with my daughter for father's day.
I watched it with my son, I thought it was an absolutely amazing movie, loved the story. So called critics giving this movie a bad score should find another profession. One of the best animated movies I’ve seen ever and I’ve pretty much seen them all.
I don't understand how anyone could have a truly bad time with this movie, as it touches on so many themes in an exciting and visually stunning way. Glad you loved the film as much as you did. Thanks for checking out the review!
The part that got me hooked to Emu was when She started glowing after her birth it was amazing
As an Ultramaniac i loved this movie. Also the best Ultraman show is Ultraseven
Ultramaniac is one of the best names for a member of a particular fandom I've ever heard. I'll have to check out Ultraseven. Thanks for watching my review!
ah, the OG ultraman, Ultraman was actually famous in the whole asian country, not just in japan, back then i was still a child, me and my cousins and the rest of family gather to watch ultraman during function, and now i'm 26, Gosh those good ol day man, thanks for the review good sir!.
Awesome to hear you have such a history with the character! Being from the United States, I really had no experience with the franchise whatsoever which makes this film even more of a surprise for me. Which Ultraman show/movie do you think I should watch next? Thanks for checking out my review!
@@SullyStreamsShow? Gaia probably. No relation to other shows so no prior context needed, and a great plor. 1998 though, you need to tolerate the dated effects which arent too bad but some are picky
Movies?
Probably the best is ultraman mebius and ultra brothers, even though its a crossover, its relatively easy to discern the plot, barring a few human characters which aee from the main mebius show, also a great show
@@SullyStreams dyna, tiga, taro.
Ultraman gaia, taro, tiga & dyna. it's classic.
@SullyStreams also try ultraman max or return of ultraman. They're also great beginner serie
Glad to hear it slaps! Might be the perfect film to check out on Father's day!
There's definitely a lot of themes around family and priorities in here, could be a nice one to watch with the parents! I definitely enjoyed my time with it. Are you a fan of the Ultraman franchise at all? Thanks for watching, Peter!
@@SullyStreams A casual fan but I do really enjoy some Kaiju content. The director's previous work also got me excited for this.
💯!
Oh man I knew I would like this movie but then ended up loving it. My son (age 4) and I have been watching return of ultraman from the 70s and shin ultraman when the pandemic happened.. we quickly became huge ultraman fans. When we heard about this movie we were so excited. It did not disappoint. Such a heartfelt action packed movie. Animation and emotion were brilliantly displayed. When emi broke her arm when ultraman caught her I gasped! Can’t wait to rewatch just wished this had a theatrical release
I think its easily the best iteration since the classic '66. Updated but still very familiar. They figured him out for this generation.
Good to hear that it’s resonating with longtime fans like you, as well as newcomers like me. This is a total blast of a movie, I hope they give us more. Thanks for watching!
Watch the first original 7 Ultraman seasons.
It's like travelling back in time to experience old Japan
That might take me a while to watch 7 seasons...But I'm definitely interested. Thanks for checking out the review!
I’m someone who has tried and failed to fall in love with Ultra Man for awhile now. I loved the Kamen Rider franchise and I grew up with Power Rangers, so I figured Ultraman wouldn’t be so hard. But I was wrong. The Marvel comics didn’t grip me, and the new Shin Ultraman was just way too boring for me. The premise also didn’t seem too original. An alien who arrives to Earth and decides to protect it from other aliens and monsters. Sure haven’t heard that before. Plus, his fights never looked all that engaging either.
However, Ultraman Rising really fixed everything for me. By a ton. Hands down, Ultraman belongs in animation. The way the character is able to transform and move within this medium is breathtaking, and just paints him as this incredibly stylish and sleek superhero that’s easy to have fun with. But also, the writers creating wholly new characters for the film instead of relying on previous interpretations was the right move, as it gives us a new and fresh narrative / era to grow attached to.
Belongs in animation is a stretch. Ultraman is suitmation first and foremost, Ultraman Rising might be great but the movie is in no ways represent the series as a whole, personally, I believe the ultraman franchise isn't for you.
The new Ultra, Ultraman arc is going to start airing next month and they air each episode weekly on youtube with english dub and sub. They also have other seasons on the Tsuburaya youtube channel as well
I'll have to check it out! It's cool to see that there's so much content from the franchise that's readily available. Thanks for watching!
What next netflix animation movie do you think next some they use from tokusatsu ultraman are they gonna make animation of godzilla or metal heroes or super sentai or kamen rider
Ultraman Blazaar is my first ever traditional Ultraman show I watched since its first episode debut all the way to its compelling finale. I've been intro Ultraman ever since I saw the Shin Ultraman movie which was a retelling of the first classic show in a modern setting. And this movie has been one of my most anticipated movies of this year and I'm glad I got to see it this weekend.
I had watched it yesterday as soon as it came out for me and it was crazy but I had always wanted to know off the thing with the villain and the interviewer lady
If you would want to watch other entries in the Ultra Series, try Ultraman Z (Zett), Ultraman Blazar, or Ultraman Arc. They are all 25 episodes at most and on RUclips officially with English dubs. Ultraman Arc is actually not out yet, but will be on July 6th
Im on the same boat with you i have never seen anything Ultraman related and ill be honest have never heard of this but this really sounds like a must watch great review man will have to check this out over the weekend this week
I’m completely new to Ultraman, but I might have to watch some stuff with the character now! Let me know if you end up checking out this film, I think you’ll like it. Thanks for watching, dude!
Same here, I just randomly saw it, decided to check it out, and now love it
I was never into Ultraman, only knew that it existed, but now I kinda want to know more just because of this movie
I didnt expect to love this movie as much as i did, it really spoke to me and i cant wait to see where they go with this story
Definitely a surprise gem of a movie. Hoping we get an announcement saying the sequel is greenlit very soon. Thanks for watching!
You got a major HIT on something the Critical Drinker hasn't hit on yet. Well done!
Haha I think he'll have me beat if he ever talks about this movie, but for now I got one out before him!
This made me cry it was one of the beautiful story telling i have seen in anime genre
The emotional moments in this one definitely creep up on you. Thanks for watching!
Im also pretty new to ultraman, but the first show i watched was Ultraman Blazar and i really enjoyed it. I've heard its a good starting point for newcomers who want something more modern.
A lot of people in the comments have said that’s a good place to begin too, good to hear you enjoyed that one as well. Thanks for watching!
*Who else never heard of Ultraman until now...👀*
I’ve heard of Ultraman, but this is my first time ever fully watching a piece of Ultraman media. I can wholeheartedly say I want to explore the rest of the franchise as a whole.
I’ve definitely heard of the character before, but this is my first time ever watching anything to do with the franchise. I want to check out more now. Thanks for checking out the review!
You were right about Ultraman, really good so far. I can see your point about production: sound and vision. I remember Ultraman as a kid, kind of like Power Rangers. I like the baseball thread too, kinda connects with Ohtani. Sort of connects with Godzilla and King Kong universe. Kinda little Incredibles and Iron Giant. Got a nice vibe and engaging. Good review, good product. Good job Netflix!! Think cool Sony content might hit Alamo now with the acquisition? Hope everything else stays “less corporate” in nature.
Great question about Alamo: I’m really not sure at this point. I hope nothing changes and gets more corporate, but Sony obviously purchased the brand because they think it would help their own label somehow. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out…
You can start with any Ultraman series the ones I recommend are Tiga, Nexus, and Blazar
Noted. Thanks for checking out the review!
This movie deserved cinema release.
Agreed, I would’ve loved to have seen this one on the big screen!
If you do watch Ultraman, I’d recommend Ultraman Z which is one of the latest entries into the franchise and has already made a name for itself as one of the most well-loved entries
Definitely making a note about that, this is the kind of guidance I need. Thanks for checking out the review!
It was awesome, just watched it, thought it was adorable, and also spoiler
When he accidentally broke Emi’s arm I felt my stomach drop, I don’t usually get that emotionally impacted by characters getting hurt but I legit was upset when she got hurt
I really hope Netflix gives us another one of these, because they setup a sequel so well. Thanks for tuning in!
I deeply recommend the Shin Ultraman movie if you want a experience more in tune with what the Ultraman franchise as a whole is about that is also friendly for new viewers
Amazing so nice movies ❤️😱👌👌👌👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥
Easily worth 4 stars. Nothing disappointing about the film.
Glad you really dug this one! Are you a big fan of the Ultraman franchise, or are you a noob like me? Thanks for watching, dude!
The ones you should watch are
:Ultraman 1966
:ultraseven
:Shin ultraman
:ultra q
Tsuburaya, the company that owns Ultraman are always finding ways to make Ultraman Global to the world. They actually made SSSS.Gridman and SSSS.Dynazenon just so they wouldn't get bankrupt.
Wow, didn’t know that! Were those two projects any good, or did they pretty much have to put anything out just to stay afloat? Thanks for watching!
@@SullyStreams Yes it did because it helped with the funding for Ultraman Blazar from last year and the upcoming Ultraman Arc that's coming at July 7th on their official yt channel.
The replies are going to be filled with fellow Ultra Series fans, but to those uninitiated to the franchise like Sully.
Now is the perfect time to get into it.
All of the shows are available legally either through Blu-Ray releases or RUclips uploads by Tsuburaya or other fans.
Tsuburaya themselves have commisioned english dubs for some of the newest series (Z, Blazar, and Arc which is coming this July 6th!) and it's all on RUclips and for Blazar, they got Johnny Yong Bosch aka Adam from MMPR to dub the protagonist!
As a lifelong fan of the franchise, the Ultra Series for me is always about wonder and empathy.
If I'm not mistaken, one of the reasons Eiji Tsuburaya made the Ultra Series is because he wanted kids to able to wonder what's beyond our galaxy and that no matter how cruel the world can be, we shouldn't lose our kindness and empathy to whoever and whatever and the filmmakers have captured that perfectly in my opinion.
I have a ton to say, but this is already getting too long lol.
Enjoy new Ultra fans!
It really is. Good movie the animation is beautiful the script chiefs kiss
I was shocked with how impressive the animation was, felt so distinct and stylish. Thanks for checking out the review!
Good breakdown of the movie, but in my personal opinion, I believe that the movie is 4.5 stars. People might disagree, but I loved the movie
Awesome to hear that you loved it as much as you did!
10/10 movie
Glad you loved it! Are you already a big Ultraman fan? Thanks for watching!
@@SullyStreams yes I have now vowed to watch/read everything ultraman
Damn! This Boomer isn't crying... you're crying! What a surprise... this could be the beginning!
You have a truly fantastic RUclips handle, and thanks for checking out the review!
@@SullyStreams thank you kind entity
🤪
1000 times better than Godzilla vs Kong movies... that movie has no soul into it...
Ultraman: Rising and Godzilla vs Kong are trying to do two completely different things imo, but I like both!
Ultraman has a VAST history of TV shows.
If you go looking to watch some of the most recent Ultraman stuff. Remember it is a show targeted towards kids.
It's not really something I would ever watch, but I enjoyed the video.
"Always got room for family" is the bald guy with a car said.
Jokes aside, hoping you'd give it a try in the future, opinions change over time after all
I don't want to force you to watch ultraman but ultraman is more than superhero kids show. is a show about really hero
Trust me JM, I totally understand where you're coming from. I watched this movie on a whim because I needed something to review this week, and was definitely surprised by how much I enjoyed myself. Give it a try if you've got the time!
Give it a go. Many are coming out saying they are surprised at how engaged they were in this story. + Creator is also a snoopy fan like yourself 😊
Shin ultraman is trash
It is trash. It is worse than Godzilla 1998.
The whole thing about Ultraman is humans can't defeat kaiju and Ultraman steps into defeat kaiju and protect humanity. In this movie, kaiju have proved to be not a serious threat to humans, and Ultraman has to protect a kaiju from humans. Fighter jets with missiles can kill Kaiju so ultraman was never needed in the first place. At the end of the movie, humans have a robot that can take on ultraman and kaiju at the same time, it further proves that humanity can protect themselves without Ultraman. The whole thing with the main character is that he has grievance with becoming Ultraman. The movie is telling me that he never had to become Ultraman and humanity would be fine without him. Everything just feels pointless.
Imagine watching batman, but the police has a special force that can defeat the villains without any issue. You simply have to ask why Bruce Wayne bother becoming batman. Why not just live his life and leave everything to the police?
Ultraman is not there to just protect human, many Ultraman has been on mission to protect their own "planet". So, if human decide to attack innocent Kaiju that has been living peace in the Kaiju Island, Ultraman need to protect them.
I really know nothing about the character or the franchise, but that's not how I interpreted it at all. To me, it seems like if humans are out there killing kaiju that Ultraman has even more of a reason to intervene, as they believe in protecting the balance of the planet above all else. Sorry you didn't enjoy the movie!
@@SullyStreams
If you want to interpret it that way, the biggest disrupter to the balance of the planet is humanity. Ultraman would control our population and destroy industries that caused the most pollution.
Your an adult crying about an animated movie. Grow up peter pan
One of the themes in this movie is balance. True, in the past, Ultraman was here to protect humans from the destructive force of kaijus, but now the KDF has reached such a technological advantage, that it's the kaijus that need to be protected from humanity. Ultaman is here to stop that and preserve that balance. Tsuburaya very much believes that. So, I hope you give it a second look.
