    Man....you guys seem to habe done something amazing here. You managed to build a amp that sounds good, even through RUclips's compression garbage. Id love to get my hands on one of these puppies one day. What a joy it would be to cram a guitar signal through ! Thanks for your contribution to the world !

    I didn’t even think to look up a RUclips channel after the premiere guitar demo. What a great amp, I really hope this hits the big time. Nothing on the market made today is this good.

    Just goes to show how much a speaker can change the sound. So i want your amp with the old speaker oe the ac 10 with the same speaker. Thats the best sounding new amp ive heard in a long time and if i wasnt saving my pennys for a bike id ask you to build me one too. Maybe next year.

    What I like about your design......even Doug says the original Vox is a"one trick pony....but it does that trick very well". You have added more tonal options. Players need that. It sounds awesome!!

      Terry Shaw thanks Terry! We really tried to give this amp more options without losing any of its fundamental appeal.

    Nice amp. The vox has a sweetness and clarity whereas the srt always seems to have a bit of hair on the note. I'd still choose the vox.

    Doug, you're a tone monster! So, is this an 'EF86/EL84 amp like the old AC10's were?
    Luv the inclusion of reverb w/ a dwell control.
    Thanx in advance and cheers (Great sounding amp BTW)

    H, I have been planning a build like this and am only a hobbyist. How did you handle the reverb? Did you use a tube driven tank as in the original? I have had difficulty working out what modern tank I could use with the same SRT original circuit? The tank manufactures are of little help. I understand it needs to be High Z input to be tube driven. Any help would be most appreciated. The original tank had phono cartridges to move the spring which was very light weight and you can't replicate that because the cartridges are no longer made, however D&P have mentioned the original reverb was of little use. A couple of years ago I tracked down a guy in the UK who sold original spec OT and the guy who made them by hand worked for Jennings in the early UK factory. Sadly he had to give up producing the transformers because he simply got too old to do it and there are no original spec stock left for sale.

      allanpennington I used a tube tank, but not like the original circuit... more like a 60s Fender reverb, but using a single 12dw7 tube for drive & recovery. It was just an experiment at first, but turned out pretty nice.

      allanpennington yep I used Mallory 150, or sometimes Sozo if I can get them for a good price. Haven’t noticed a big difference between them.

      @@Henryamps Thanks JP, I am hoping to build an SRT clone but can't work out what current load capacity I need for the power transformer. The schematic only tells me its a 300-0-300V secondary. The AC10 and AC15 used a 120mA transformer but is that a little light on for an SRT if made like the original with 2 x EL84's, 1 x 12AX7, 3 x 12AU7's and 1 x EZ81?

    I have wanted to ask an amp guy about this so here it goes, HAVE you ever looked into the crate vintage club 50 amps ? Mine sounds very very vox like with the stock speakers and all but it's got this great hand wound transformer like the old vox or tweed amps si maybe that's why it's sounding so good !? But is it a close copy of a vox Ac 50 or something maybe Marshall because this amp sounds so so good to me better than any other one I've got and I've got a bunch but this one is the best so if you could tell me what it is so I can have a ptp one built to withstand gigging that would be great , so far these over heat and sometimes just don't want to work at the gig but will play chill in basement for hours and hours without a hiccup so a more reliable and consistent version would be heaven for me. Thanks again and hope to have a go on one of your amps in the near future.

      @Henryamps  5 лет назад

      aunt jenifer I actually had a Vintage Club 30 back in the 90s, good amp and built well! Def some Vox characteristics esp on the first channel, the 2nd was more Marshall from what I remember. Good amps

    The SRT lacks some of the "air" that the old Vox has... not quite there as a match. I built the circuit myself and had exactly the same result.

    • @Henryamps
      @Henryamps  5 лет назад +1

      charles gwyn I noticed that too, I think it’s due to the output transformers... I’d love to reverse engineer & replicate an original without ruining a rare amp!

      I sure hope you solve the transformer puzzle. Your amp sounds fantastic! It's very close to Doug's amp, especially with those awesome Webers! Very cool amp, congratulations!

      Who made the original SRT output xfmrs? Drake? Partridge?

    • @Henryamps
      @Henryamps  5 лет назад

      Woden actually, and the original OT is much smaller than that of the standard AC10 or 15, more like a Marshall 18w.
