I remember writing my dissertation to this playing on repeat in the background, sometimes taking breaks to just watch the video. It still grips me completely
I can't imagine how so much hard work was put into the making of this masterpiece and the elaboration of the idea from day one. I just love your voice and love everything about this clip. I share this song with every person I deeply love. So mesmerizing!
Laura I go back to this all the time. I feel in some ways guilty as a man to say each single word you express here resonates so deeply. I know you want your art to be uniquely feminine and I appreciate you even more for that. But you speak so eloquently of the dance of human connections through romance, dynamics, loss, and self needs. The most human expression I have ever heard. Tears every time.
I totally understand how you feel. Last time I saw her it was 1,5 years ago. The whole audience was silent when she played... constantly. Amazing. I cried during Salinas, it was so beautiful I couldn't handle it.
I agree ^ Laura Marling, despite being younger than a lot of other female artists, and even in this scene of modern folk, surrounded by so many amazing artists, has maturity far beyond her years. She makes these other artists look like children.
Wow. That was awesome. Had me in tears at one point. Beautiful visuals and music. Pulled me in and held my attention throughout. Perfectly shot & edited. A feast for my eyes, ears, and emotions. For some reason it provokes memories - both happy & sad. Enjoyable all the way around. Took me on a little ride, through my own mind, while yet somehow still engaged in watching and listening to the video. Thank you.
My first time hearing this. Stunned really. Where has this music been all my life? Joni Mitchell meets Led Zeppelin meets Nick Drake meets Tim Hardin meets Jeff Buckley...and on and on.
Very lovely with a perfect soundtrack For those of us who own Laura Marling records, this is a brilliant visual companion. Great songwriter and player, fantastic voice for one so young and her music is treasured by those who love it.
Hey, at least she is getting more recognition thank to Mumford & Sons popularity, that's how I found and fell in love with her. She's a brilliant songwriter and a lovely singer, she's not more popular because she'd be classified as "slit your wrist" music, an actual quote from a friend, but then most people are slaves to the radio/club/pop music, most of which is "stab my eardrums" (my quote) music. I love the internet for bringing me GOOD music :)
I have a poetry assignment due on Monday, and I just had an idea for a sonnet, marked by other inspiration, of course. When I finished it, this video finished as well. I guess I must thank Laura Marling for her beautiful, liberating music.
I disagree about most of the mumford counterpart comments. I believe most musicians whether it be folk , rock ,rap , true alternative, have a desire to hit fame and wealth. The music industry can poison true artists in my opinion. The glory of reaching the majority is tempting. That does not take any talent away from Marcus Mumford and his group. They just appeal to a larger audience. Put it this way , even if a man loved Laura's music he would hesitate to play it around anyone who he might think would consider it a feminine taste. Its easier to play a mans song for the majority of men. I have no shame in saying this is absolute poetic freedom. Laura Marling has a unique talent. Very , Very underrated. I hope for the sake of music she stays under the radar and continues to search that beautiful mind for lyrical clarity. She will go down in history as a true folk, musical legend. Sooner or later. AMAZING TALENT !
My ranking for greatest female artist as a singer, composer, poet and musician: Joni Mitchell spent 30 lonely years on the throne. Now that I discovered Laura I think Joni will will be happily share the throne enjoying Lauras company.
Here goes I feel this is reply to marcus mumford.... It could not be but I feel it is... It is a Wonderful strong piece and would not of found Laura without knowing MM... They dated and they broke up...I think marcus did her wrong according to the gossip rags... They were friends from the folk scene in London...Laura was /is famous in the UK and MM formed they just took off . ... Laura has since moved to state side to LA....marcus has since married actress Carey Mulligan bought a 2 million dollar farm in the south of England ... I love them all ....they are friends and spent a lot of time together ...they were young sewing their oats and now they are making their way in this journey of life! Best of luck to Laura and MM sons hope your paths cross again...
How have I only just heard this?!? This is a masterpiece!
"I will not be a victim of romance" -- that part of lyric just got me,man!
I remember writing my dissertation to this playing on repeat in the background, sometimes taking breaks to just watch the video. It still grips me completely

Who’s the Guy in the Street at the beginning?
And what is he quoting?
I’d love to know.. I’ve tried searching some of the quotes but never seem to find the answer..
I keep going back to 1:05 . That song...it's just gorgeous. She's perfect.
I have a poetry assignment due on Monday, and I just had an idea for a sonnet, marked by other inspiration, of course. When I finished it, this video finished as well. I guess I must thank Laura Marling for her beautiful, liberating music.

exquisite stuff!
Album is in the mail, cant wait for it to arrive! :)
Brilliant. I don't even know what else to say. You wouldn't happen to have the lyrics posted somewhere... ?
This makes me want to sit in my lounge room with the lights off, drinking red wine and absorb. Bliss
Does anyone know what the instrument is that plays the drone on the repeating riff? The one that sounds a bit like a harpsichord or a sitar...
Wow!
01:05: Part 1, Take The Night Off. 04:54: Part 2, I Was An Eagle. 09:25: Part 3, You Know. 12:16: Part 4, Breathe. 16:50: Credits
this is perfect :)
hermosa
This song is not nearly long enough 😘
Absolutely stunning! Greatest achievement yet - echoes of Floyd and George Harrison - amazing!

I understand your point, maybe it's just not everyone's purpose to be famous...success has nothing to do with fame in my opinion. Cheers!
