In smb 1 i got some codes that i made if you wanna try one (or two, or three) Note - only tried on mario/duck hunt ULESAN - No fire balls TOTTEL - Enemies look weird when you jump on them. LYOUOI - Game crashes when you hit your third block EELING - you pass through blocks from the bottom ANNEVE - Backgroud is screwy NNEVEG - Bricks when broken create a weird sound and go all over the place UNEVEG - (my personal favorite) Break two or three bricks and explore a new level (might wanna add a mid-air jump code) ONNAKK - makes the title screen blue and grey LIEANU - Small mario can break bricks and if you hit a power block your game will crash or it will disappear TYOUEV - Breaking a brick will give you 20 20 graphics ENAOAP - Mario has star pallette for a second when starting a level ASSION - You die almost instantly SOUAAE - lots of 0 on the title screen OASELA - Title screen graphics screw upper ATPUAP - You can't duck or go down pipes. And you dont go down on the flagpole.
"Have you ever wished that when you hit a block it would turn big, and when you hit the big block, out would come a frog suit?" Never have I wanted something more and never known it.
I used to use a code as a kid that I found by accident (a typo). It turned Mario blue, and I think he could jump indefinitely. I wrote it down in my journal somewhere that has been lost since 1993. I wanna say it was XNKX-GLIE or something similar...
The last code is so funny! It's like you're sticking a shop-vac hose on top of the TV and you're vacuuming the sprites out of the screen! "Whirrrrr... FLUMP!, FlIMP!, FLUMP!"
Is it just me or does anyone else wish that in world 4 in this game (Big Island) you could go down one of the giant pipes but unfortunately you can only go into the regular sized pipes but I always thought it would have been cool if you could go down some of the giant pipes in world 4 even though you can’t as far as I know
For the Goomba Shoe, the reason why it looks weird in some levels is because the graphics for it are only loaded when certain sprite palettes are loaded. If you enable debug mode in the game, selecting the shoe that way also has the same, messed up sprite effect in some levels.
Your first code reminds me that there's a debug mode code KKKZSPIU In addition to level select, an ability to add lives at will, and starting with a bunch of lives and an inventory full of P-wings and one of every item. When you're in a stage, you can switch between all the different types of Mario by pushing Select, and if you hold B and push select, you can toggle the Goomba Boot on and off. There's also a version of that code that works the exact same for the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB3.
The small block that turns into giant one with frog is probably the weirdest cheat I've ever seen in SMB3. It's been many years since I used GG codes, I normally mess with the ROM's addresses. Nice cheat codes!

PTUXLS - Blocks Disappear And When You Use the Tanooki Tail You Screw up The Music for a Few Seconds!
If I was designing Mario Three. I would never get to the actual plot. I would just add more things. Mario just forgets about the Princess and gets wanderlust.
I remember seeing how many game genies you could stack to get more codes. Apparently any more than 3 and the weight would give it a bad connection. So you had to prop it up with something and it would randomly loose connection and act like there wasnt a cartridge in it. It works best with just 2 game genies. You have to cut the tab off one and glue them together. Otherwise the stacked tabs wont let it fit into the nes. And the bottom game genie would come unslotted and be lodged in the nes. Then you gotta pull it out with needle nose pliers or something. But i think also there was a memory issue where it just couldnt hold more than 9 codes. So it stacks better with 2 game genies. 3 can work unreliably. And any more than three and it just wont work at all. This was late 90s so you could find nes games in flea markets and second hand stores dirt cheap. So i had 5 or 6 game genies laying around and started experimenting. After you stack them it kinda looks like the nes is sticking its tongue out at you.
The graphics are different for the fake boot dependent on the stage you're in because the NES draws graphics by selecting a set of tiles and then loading from that set by index. I suspect that if you try it in the boot stage it may be the boot.
Well like number 4 in the Game Genie code book there is a code called the Skywalker code (nothing to do with Star Wars) and this code is similar to number 4 on this list except you don’t necessarily need to be raccoon Mario for it and it won’t make the background all trippy (which may be seizure inducing for some people)
Not a game genie code but in super Mario bros if you were to open the rom up with a hex editer and set byte 0xD0 and 0x30 to FF then running will make Mario walk backwards at walking speed
How are these GG codes found in the first place? Is it just trial and error.......typin in random codes until somethin happens or do people actually know how to find them?
IIRC The codes correspond to actual addresses in the rom, and override certain attempts to read from the rom. like if the NES asks for the Value at $4FF8, and that's the address the game genie code is looking for, it'll return a different value.
Im glad your still doing this! I bought a game genie from watching your videos from like 3 years ago and i still love experimenting for hours and hours. Thanks for all your work man! Edit: wow its actually been more like 7 years now that i looked lol. Great stuff.
I'm working on a code that allows you to replay stages in this game. it has the unintended side effect of not only messing up collision in levels, but the small little intermediate spaces that look like dots are actually just empty Hammer brother stages!
I'm hoping to make this '5 Game Genie Codes' thing a regular series here on the channel. Any specific games you want to see codes for?

In smb 1 i got some codes that i made if you wanna try one (or two, or three)
Note - only tried on mario/duck hunt
ULESAN - No fire balls
TOTTEL - Enemies look weird when you jump on them.
LYOUOI - Game crashes when you hit your third block
EELING - you pass through blocks from the bottom
ANNEVE - Backgroud is screwy
NNEVEG - Bricks when broken create a weird sound and go all over the place
UNEVEG - (my personal favorite) Break two or three bricks and explore a new level (might wanna add a mid-air jump code)
ONNAKK - makes the title screen blue and grey
LIEANU - Small mario can break bricks and if you hit a power block your game will crash or it will disappear
TYOUEV - Breaking a brick will give you 20 20 graphics
ENAOAP - Mario has star pallette for a second when starting a level
ASSION - You die almost instantly
SOUAAE - lots of 0 on the title screen
OASELA - Title screen graphics screw upper
ATPUAP - You can't duck or go down pipes. And you dont go down on the flagpole.
"Have you ever wished that when you hit a block it would turn big, and when you hit the big block, out would come a frog suit?"

I didn’t know you could use 6 character codes on memory mapped games.
Number 1 is one punch mario caz when he hits a block it flys a little or it just goes to heaven. And when he goes near a bad guy there like NOPE.
6 character codes do not have compare values, so they indiscriminately patch all ROM pages leading to unexpected bugs.

we must analize the fly upwards code and make it into a proper hack
What do you mean "turn it off"? It's a code you put in before the game starts up and isn't part of the actual game so you can't just turn off codes.
Emulators like FCEUX will let you turn them on/off. Messing around and typing in codes on PC is a lot easier than sitting in front of a real NES
