Bible Says Humans Rule Animals, Caller Forget Lions Exist | Matt Dillahunty and Eric (S&S)

- Andrew calls in stating humans are not animals since we are made in God's image. The hosts get him to agree scientifically humans are animals, then ask him to provide a logical argument and evidence showing humans possess godly attributes. Andrew fails, instead asserting the hosts need to "open their hearts" and visit a Buddhist temple to have a religious experience that will make them believe.

I'm South African and our lions here are 1000 lbs monsters; we have never ever, in our history, seen any pastor trying to rule lions, let alone hyenas, rhinos, leopards, elephants, hippos, crocs, cobras, mambas, adders, buffalos, sharks, spiders, scorpions, pythons, not to mention mozzies, TseTse flies and other parasites, with many more who wouldn't think twice about eating you or just killing you because. At we don't have the venomous critters like our Australian friends; so when they say god gave us dominion over animals, yeah, good luck with that!
In the Southern U.S., there are some pastors who've "danced with venomous snakes" to try to appeal to their fundamentalist Christian congregation. More than a few of them have been bitten, and some of them lost their life.
Dominion also means control. Mankind has definitely shown their control over other species. We lock them up in zoos, we make them our pets, we contain them as livestock, if animals displease us they’re slaughtered. With the use of pesticides we destroy them barely giving a thought that we destroy what is beneficial to us. We raze the forests and jungles. Our destructive capabilities far outweigh any other animal. Hordes of locusts can’t compare to what mankind has done. Man has dominion in every way that counts.
"Let alone hippos" mf hippos shouldve been the first option, those guys are the real several ton monsters.

YES! 100% YES!!! We must stop arguing about god (whatever that even means) and keep humanizing the bible. Does it make more sense that a god sanctioned slavery or that men who owned slaves sanctioned slavery? I've often wondered why Matt doesn't frame his slavery questions more in this way.
@@larryl2406 to me it’s simply a matter of objectivity. You can make cases for that all you like but you can technically never know the real story. Matt operates on proofs and evidences, so making an argument based on speculation is not in his wheelhouse. Don’t get me wrong, I would agree that the bible was likely written by or at the very least commissioned in some way by a wealthy slave owner, but that absolutely cannot be proven.
@@IAmTheRealHim. That's fair but, he does often point out that we don't know who the bible authors are, I see no reason why he can't offer an hypothesis counter to the "god did it" assertion.
@@larryl2406 I could be wrong but isn’t his retort usually the simple burden of proof dilemma? There is no proof for god even existing so you can’t claim the bible was written by him. From what I’ve observed it doesn’t really matter if the bible was written by god or not. He will frequently give his callers the benefit of the doubt in assuming that both god exists and wrote the bible. Even if both of those are true he would never bow his head in worship to such a monstrous diety. And regardless he doesn’t believe that god even exists, so claims about the bible having divine authority are meaningless if you can’t firs prove the divine’s existence.

Because god loves him, see.
Maybe if he would just go to the right Buddhist temple, he would not be so miserable.
Unsurprising really because if this is his level of logic and conversation I'd expect people try to avoid him, even his wife.
Yes. I'd suspect that he is unhappy and tries to cope by outwardly protecting that at least he's human and humans are special.
Yes. The same Andrew who calls in with the same nonsense that gets debunked over and over again. The same Andrew who unironically claimed that WW2 and the Holocaust happened because the world was becoming more Atheist and people were abandoning Christianity.
Andrew is not an honest caller.
Eric is the BEST co-host Matt has ever had. He is succinct, articulate, and on point. Please more of Eric!
My favorite route anyone thus far has taken with Andrew was when Forrest literally asked him if he thinks before he calls. It was a great line to take because it exposes the fundamental problem with Andrew and why he buys into nonsense. Almost every single call with Andrew has been one or both of the hosts holding Andrew's hand like you would with a little kid teaching them how to think on their own and realize they can actually figure out how they are wrong if they just follow the evidence and simple logical lines of thought.
And this is not just Andrew. It feels like something that was done TO him. When you listen to preachers at church, they slowly rot your brain and aim to chip away at good rational thinking by instead authoritatively presenting you with deepities, memes and other terrible 5 seconds blurbs that SOUND good to them, and sound like they might make sense... But so much of it is literally just propaganda aiming to get you to feel a certain way. They are not interested in truth.
So they hit you with a "if we are truly are just animals, ladies and gentlemen of the congregation, why do we just shrug our gol'darn shoulders when entire species go extinct?!" like that means anything at all. It's how they get you to hate "homosexual lifestyles" and evolution.
So as condescending as it sounds.. The best way to deal with Andrew is to treat him like a child who was never taught how to think critically. Because emotionally and intellectually, that's exactly what he is... because his brain and epistemology has been rotted by church and religion.
I think that’s exactly right. It’s wild that these people get to this point where they have an inability to think critically
Honestly, I think most of them understand how to think and reason. They absolutely do in other aspects of their lives. They are capable. But, the indoctrination "safeguards" their thought process like a firewall. It won't allow them to look at this "special thing" in the same way they assess common problems or issues that they see as separate. They literally are taught to use their indoctrinated brain to look at religion, and anything that it gets injected into. Outside of that, they're probably pretty reasonable... for the most part and most people... obviously there are some "special cases". Lol
I think his response time to a question was him waiting for A.I. to give him an answer. But it had a meltdown too😂😂
“I don’t want to say the Bible tells me so ‘cause that won’t work with you guys.”
I wonder if he actually realises what that says about himself.
Actual cartoon reality
The long silence after each time Matt asks him a question speaks VOLUMES. Deep down, the caller knows what he’s saying is bull shit. He was just never forced to think about it prior to talking to Matt 😂
14:42 Matt: in depth explanation and rebuttal
Andrew: okay 🤪
This is the real answer right here. In one way, I give Andrew credit for being brave enough to put himself in this position. On the other hand, it doesn't sound like he's necessarily ready to actually reconsider his beliefs. That silence could be the first step towards openness to changing belief, or it could be the embarrassment that makes him double down and never allow himself to have his beliefs challenged again.
It takes a long time to process that much data when your brain is still operating on dos.
@@catcatcatcatify he keeps calling the show. And Forrest has even tried to teach critical thinking to him, but the man just never learns anything.
edit: he also thinks divorce is evil, so it's better to force an abusive partner to be forever with their spouse.
Every time he's silent I imagine his brain is showing an ERROR message.
I could smell Andrew's brain starting to fry when he realised that human attributes are not the same as a god's and that he could not determine who had which attribute and who didn't. The anguish was palpable. Like a cornered rabbit surrounded by 20 wolves. Pucker-up Buttercup, its all about to get really gruesome.
“I don’t have any more time for this call” = “I need to go have a religious experience right now to calm this overwhelming awareness of my cognitive dissonance.”

And one that says "answer the f*cking question". 😂
@@ZERO_O7X
and on the back it says
WHY WON'T YOU JUST ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION lol
WIith Matching Hoodie that says
HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO ASK YOU BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION
Another Merch Idea
Shirt with Matts face and voice bubble that says "Ohhh My God"
After he separates the good human traits and the bad ones, he’ll then say his god is all the good ones 😂
Love that moment at 2:30 where his brain just breaks as he realises his argument is nonsensical and switches to the usual “yeah, well….”.
It's virtually impossible to use logic and reason on religious people.
Omfg Jimmy can you PLEASE mix the audio from the call and the ending slide? Everytime I feel like I can barely hear the call then I hear Jimmy's mic at the end destroying my eardrums. Please balance this
Seriously this. I thought my brain waa under attack from outside supernatural forces but it was just goddamn jimmy
This is a genuinely interesting conversation. Andrew is being as honest as possible, until 27:20 . Theist callers should take note that Matt is a compassionate interlocutor when dealing with honest callers.
Guess he never heard of a Queen bee
Why does is being animals dehumanise us? Being an animal doesn’t preclude being a human. If it does you’re just defining us am not being an animal and at that point I want to hear your justification.
And it shouldn’t be some silly nonsense about how it makes you feel bad.
I've always thought it goes the opposite way. Look at a video of a baby Gorilla and mother then how human-like they are. That isnt an insult to humans, its a compliment to Gorillas!
It's about the feeling of supremacy. When you already know you are a pathetic little piece of shit, but nonetheless want to subdue someone or something: Genesis 1,28
Andrew wants to jump into the fuzzy concepts and say that all religions are secretly worshipping the same thing but getting certain parts wrong, and yet, he’s at the same time committed enough to his particular religion of Catholicism that he’s previously stated he would do anything the pope tell him to even if Andrew thinks it’s immoral.
Why do these people even call in? They aren’t prepared, they have no actual argument other than “I ain’t no monkey!”
It's possible that there are animals alive right now, that do have religious ideas, even their own creation myths. Many whales, octopuses, apes, and birds are at least a smart as human children. Just saying, we haven't been able to converse with any of them... yet.
'Twere possible a lump of coal plac'd on the fire wou'd burn'd not.
animals aren’t that dumb
You might have a point there, after all even Andrew has religious ideas, so any animals smarter than Andrew can also have religions
Humans must be the best and worst animal,we must really seem like a god to some animals, they could communicate this orally? I hope they don't write any of this down in some sort of book , that could cause a problem?
Crows and pigeons have been observed engaging in ritualistic behaviour associated with getting fed by humans. 'We got fed while one of us was hopping around in a circle, so maybe that's what brings food. Get hopping, guys!' It seems they will sometimes continue doing this even when they don't get a result every time.
How can someone be so utterly incapable of understanding that some animals are more important to us than others?
Anyone who can seriously think humans are the only species who worships something hasn't seen the way my cat looks at me during feeding time.
1:59 "Aahhmmm.......ok....."
Case closed.
Why does the belief in “magical sky fairies” make people think and state such ignorant, stupid, delusional things?
Andrew is a classic example of this!
Because religion creates a mental block in questioning said religion. History has shown us throughout the ages that religion, doesnt matter which one either, has tried to silence movements that would jeopardize or question that very religion.
Cause he wants his Sky Cake
Cmon. So awesomeness. Best call ever.
This is when Matt shines the most : calm and composed and absolutely ruthless in his logic. At this point it's just the interlocutor's ego getting in the way and preventing him from admitting he was wrong.
This guy has called in before, a lot I think.
Yes. He's very thirsty. Has called 12+ times.
yep, always with BS argument and claims, like "religion is needed for civilisation" and stuff like that
Yep. And he calls in with the same nonsense over and over again. He has admitted that he is miserable, but believes that's a good thing.
Andrew, the difference between science being wrong sometimes and religion being wrong a lot of the time, is that at least science has the decency to correct its own mistakes
Hillarious! Thanks guys, that was really entertaining!
Great job to the hosts! Very precise points💪💪💪
The idea that our perception of the same reality differing means we have different realities we live within is wild. What proof do you have, does ANYONE have that there is anything more than objective reality and all we have in observation in perspective? Your PERCEPTION and EXPERIENCES of and within reality may differ but we are firmly, unequivocally stuck here in this real, tangible world. When you suspend thought for one thing it's like a cascade failure.
You could be living in the Matrix and none of it is true.
There's no way to prove.
5:43 that made me laugh so hard. I tried one. As if hes never given someone an argument they they didnt accept immediately
This was very good at trying to get someone to think about what they believe. Unfortunately Andrew does not want to accept that he could be wrong and will not allow himself to examine what shows he is not really thinking about what he believes.
A big shout out to Florida

Flo rida
This is probably the best yet.
It just REALLY annoys me when religious people just pre-assume that you share their beliefs.
A brainwashed theist running his mouth about ultimate reality... ironic
Looks like Andrew is trying to prove he’s one of those “lesser beings”. 😜
Hey be careful, everyone has ability to do dumb and evil things. Don't get too close to supremacist ideologies.
@@re11ik96His comment was about the irony of a Christian who believes to be the "image of god" and superior to other animals (and non-believers, of course) being so stupid.
I don’t consider myself superior to people like that, but I consider many of them inferior to many of us. Remember, about 49% of the people are below average in intelligence.🤤
This was just painful. Knowing how flawed my own thinking is at times, it's depressing seeing just how bad others' thinking can get.
His argument about a Buddhist temples reminds of a conversation I had with some Christians at my community college. During our talk they asked me if I read The Shack and I said "Yes, actually it made me cry. It was very moving." But then they were in disbelief that it didn't change my mind about being religious. Yes, it did effect me emotionally -- most fiction does! I've cried reading many books, but that doesn't mean I believed those events relate to reality. It didn't occur to them that someone could have an emotional experience with religious material and not respond to it religiously.
A lot of Christian paintings, choral music, and poetry inspires a sense of beauty and awe in me, but so does Hindu art, video games and anime. I'm not going to worship the gods in a video game just because I had an intense emotional experience!
