What officially made skip and loafer one of my favorites was when she and the male lead have their first misunderstanding. I was already getting ready for the slow drag out of them, not getting along over something that could be solved with a simple conversation. I was ready for the awkward distance, the side eye when they passed each other in the halls. Ect ect. But then... they talked to each other? And the problem went away the same episode? And they didn't milk the tension out for all it's worth? It felt liberating 😂
I rec danmei like 2ha and bl manhwa like anything by brothers without tommorrow and bl manga like touch within abyss for romance. (Espically some danmei they got the whole eternal love thing with angst)
I think the combination of slice of life and romance can be perfectly executed if it's more slice of life focused. Just enjoy the daily lifes of characters and not thinking too much about getting into romance. No unnecessary drama, just people who are acting normal.
That's basically what insomniacs after school did. Show focused more on the slice of life aspect while giving small hints of romance that basically pays off in the end
this anime REALLY showed what school life is like for normal people, NORMAL teenagers. Like you said, without sexualization, fanservice, having popular and unpopular, rivalry and more, it's just an endlessly comforting anime that shows the reality of a life. It's all cute, and I ended up identifying with some moments. So it's just cute and comforting. I loved too much
@@saundramonette4137 No, we want an actually good anime that tells good story, has interesting characters and doesn't throw fillery subplots and sexual stuff in your face each second.
Don't get me wrong Horimiya was fun and I did love it. But Like you said Skip and Loafer was something lots of us anime watchers needed. We always dream just a little bit of living life like an anime. Or we always look to relate to characters too. Skip and Loafer gave us that realism that we all wish to see in these genres we like so much. Anyways point is we need more animes like these two and also this was another great video :)
I'd argue that Mitsumi DOES stand out, even more than other female main characters, but it's more subtle. For one, she has goals to go into law and help with the depopulation issues. Already, that stands out. I don't think I've ever seen an anime character tackle that sort of thing, and the craziest thing is that Mitsumi has her life all planned out. Second, (like you said) she's smart and determined. Becoming the person who scored first place in the high school exam is not easy. Heck, I wouldn't be able to do that. Third, despite being smart and determined, she can be a nervous wreck. She sometimes works too hard, and even has anxiety when surrounded by too many people as well as insecurities. Her design may not be as eye catching, but I think that helps her stand out from all the candy colored haired characters.
I've read manga and her hometown friend did say (without sarcasm) that the only thing Mitsumi good at is studying, and she's a total airhead in everything else unrelated to school exams lmao. Also, the way her stand out didn't make people think she's special like most anime main characters, she legit stand out in a weird way
I like that she’s allowed to be not conventionally pretty. If I’m being honest, the fish eyes on her character design is a privilege that only a main guy can have. Even though “normal looking” girls do exist in manga and anime, they are drawn with big eyes and long lashes, basically not that different from the supposedly pretty girls (and oftentimes they would be given a makeover later on). It’s really nice to see a heroine who don’t have to live up to the beauty standard.
mitsumi stand out cause of her hard work that inspired people in real life like hell i had a dream like her but shit! i never work hard like that, from studying and do homeworks,i rather waching tv, it make me feel worse
I love romance anime but hate it when it’s made purely to appeal to the male audience or female audience.. having a little of it is ok but when it’s the focus it kinda takes the actual romance out of it and just becomes fan service! I love romance especially ones that revolve around the characters individually and their development! Making you root for the characters! It’s sweet when the love interests develop together by exposing more parts about themselves, with the help of the other. Causing them to learn more about each other (+ other characters) and themselves, resulting in the satisfying ending when they realise they love each other. Ik it’s cliche but I think this is why enemies to lovers is so popular cus it can be done right when it’s done like this..!
This, I hate how most romance anime now are just self proclaimed romance anime most of them now aren't even about romance it just about fan service and harem just the same old same old tropes I remember starting romcom two years ago and I was so happy how good the romance animes were and how many good and unique animrs there were after a couple of months i burnt through all the "good ones" and now only few are good now i only come back to see of there are any decent ones with actual romance. Another problem is the romance anime nowadays just drag out so there is barely any romantic moments or the romantic moments being ruined by a third party
yup, that’s why i love horimiya so much, and was really really surprised to see it mentioned in the short list of “romance anime i don’t like.” to me it’s the quintessential romcom with a very genuine relationship and amazing chemistry between the couple
Not sure what the heck your watching that takes the romance out. Theres plenty of classics that are well done and this video he pointed out good ones too another called Blue Box is very innocent. Oh i fogot to mentioned the BL thats been going around. Its also cute natural and less problematic. Its BL though so not many people are into it.
@@SemekiIzuioi get what they’re saying kind of in some anime the couples don’t really seem to like each other off of their personality and the time they share sometimes it feels like a overnight romance with not much emotion put into it
Skip and loafer is so great because it covers all kinds of relationships, especially real struggles of friendships. I love mistumi and Fumi who are dealing with their best friend relationship changing in ways because of their physical distance, or shima learning that he has to address problems and vulnerabilities with people he cares about to become better friends, or the popular girl and the glasses girl learning that first impressions and our own perception about how others see us aren’t always right. I also love the girl who likes fashion who desperately wants to be noticed, singled out, and chosen. This series is just so real. These are real insecurities and struggles of young adult relationships and skip and loafer isn’t even dramatic about it but it works, I think because it’s so relatable, and the characters are so loveable.
"Its nice to at least watch such wonderful experience that i could never had" Bro, i blinked and then i graduated from highschools. I wish i've watched some silly highschool slice of life anime in my jhs life to at least see what i could get on mine. Sigh....
As a shoujo fan, I really like the romance anime that came out this season, Yamada 999, and Raeliana anime, but I was surprised that I also really liked Insomniacs After School, when I really did not like Dress Up Darling.
Skip and Loafer is actually one of the best seinen I’ve ever watched or read. One, is because it took time to show other characters with their own development besides the main ones. Two, this is one of those series where you never get bored because they’re always showing you something new, whether it be different perspectives or not following a damned cliche. They don’t rush the romance of Mitsumi and Sosuke, instead they take time to enjoy their high school with friends because they understand they’re not ready. This manga has pulled my heart strings, but because of their friendships and hardships they help each other out with, I can’t even express. No harem, no fan service, no misunderstandings, just the right amount of drama that doesn’t want you to pull your hairs out but cry instead, I’d say it’s a win.
@@eri_noemi1462my understanding of shoujo is a story written from the POV of a female character and geared towards a female audience... While seinen is usu geared towards older male audiences and might have dark themes etc... Can you explain how S&L can be considered Seinen? Genuinely curious maybe it's time I expanded my understanding of the terms shoujo and seinen
I haven’t watched these shows yet, but it’s amazing how I saw this after watching some ‘Kimi ni todoke/ From me to you’ episodes and Skip and Loafer reminds me of it. There’s something from seeing pure romance like that which makes me root for the characters even tho they’re just doing basic things (tho I guess it also helps balance the intense hype sports anime give me lol).
I would recomend trying Lovely complex. Even though it's an older anime, but it's really enjoyable. And I love that the main characters are actually really in tune with each other. They like the same type of humour, same bands. They have a lot in common. Stupidity included. But they also have their own dreams and goals. Btw the main character is voiced by Nami's voice actress :)
As a romance anime watcher, I long for the wholesomeness and heart warming feeling animes. The new romance animes were so boring, I tried watching Dress up Darling and Horimiya and I didn’t even finish the first episode. Skip and loafer was a life saver indeed! I’m happy romance anime have been making a comeback!!
100% agree. I used to love having shows like lovely complex, kodomo no omocha, skip beat and other comedy romace anime that actually capture an audience, but nowadays, all we have are just shows with a bunch of unnecessary fanservice, that puts me off.
Mitsumi of S&L is a genuinely likable character. Even in design, I love how they chose to make her much less "pretty" than the male lead, Shima. I'm a woman and hate most of the female protagonists in romance; they act like the worst stereotypes of girls, hyper-self-conscious and hypersensitive, or are otherwise unrealistically popular, with 4-7 guys being in love with them (never any creeps, just the hot guys) despite presenting as down-to-earth and relatable for the female audience. Mitsumi has real ambitions and goals outside scoring a romantic date. She's not hot, nor does she have a harem of hot men in love with her. She isn't a crying sack of emotions and brushes off failure quickly because she doesn't believe the world centers around her.
Finally the algorithm recommended another hidden gem. Haven't laughed at an anime review in quite a long time, but you won me over. Hope there are many more subs to come.
I think that both Horimiya and My dressup darling are more targeted to boys and even if they have romance, they are not shoujo but in fact shounen. Skip and Loafer definetly is much more shoujo-like, which is why it focuses more on the interaction between characters (and hence combining it with slice-of-life is so popular).
In my perception Horimiya it's not "more targed to" a certain audience, i see like a very balanced romance anime actually! It doens't have that very appealing scenes, but at the same time it's not too soft and dramatic. Most audiences can enjoy and be entertained. I personally liked it.
@@tokitobe2450 I feel that Marín's biggest problem is that they didn't work on her story well or exploit her more human and mature side. It's nice that she realized that she likes Gojo and feels self-conscious about it, however, they could have worked a lot more on that crush. Practically, Marín's character is very empty and basic at times and seems more like a simple idealization made by a lonely man than a human or protagonist within his world.
Horimiya as an anime, is an utter failure to me. The manga is far better and feels far more universal for audiences without dragging. The jokes are funnier, etc, just like how I think the anime for Mashle isn't very good, because the music is gonk and I don't enjoy how it feels.
OMG yes!! So far nothing has come close to my favorite Lovely Complex (also Wotaku Koi Wa Muzukashii too because it focuses on adult nerds lol) but Skip and Loafer brought back something that was missing from other new romance/Slice of life anime that don't need to push fan service, bright hair colors, and a girl that will force her bf to hit her in public. *looking at you Horimiya*
Lovely complex is my absolute fav even after all these years!! It bums me out that a lot of newer fans won't experience it because it's a bit dated, particularly the older aspect ratio it was made in that some find hard to watch. It's a slow burn and there's a long lasting "misunderstanding" which a lot of fans are against these days too, even though it's perfectly grounded and realistic, going from friends to lovers is a difficult and stressful transition to make and they portray it so well. We don't even have to wait til the last episode for the payoff!! Man I hope this series gets remastered someday.
@@Demonstaomg same. ive watched all the og shoujo/romance animes but nothing ever comes aclose to lovely complex. fell in love with it as a preteen and im still in love with it in my 20s! my fav anime for sure. i hope it gets remastered like you said because it has sooo much potential!
a condition called love, The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion, Doctoer Elise, and I heard a sign of affection is good same as 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys A Carefree Life Married To Her Worst Enemy! (I wouldn’t watch it though personally), Yamada kun Lv999, I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss, my happy marriage, and The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior for recent ones.
Calling Hori a bitch makes me wonder if you can even empathize with female MCs who aren’t written to be easily-likeable. It’s one of the very few anime written from a realistic female perspective. Lying in bed waiting for our partner to text us back is an almost universal experience… The kink part is weird I agree, but after tons of male characters in anime imposing their kinks on girls, it’s kind of refreshing to see the opposite. Hori is hotheaded and stubborn and emotional. She’s the smartest of her class, great at athletics, and friendly and popular. She takes her role as older sister seriously, and cares about her close friends. She gets embarrassed, gets frustrated, and has up days and down days (very relatable for PMS 😅). If you think a realistic female character is a bitch just for those reasons, then I worry what you think real women are like.
I’m just thankful that someone with a platform gave light to insomniacs after school, it’s been my favourite this season and might be one of my favourites in general
Currently I relate so hard by romcom being bad,the big thing I hate is that all have the same trope I hate,Zero Communication, even when I liked horimyia that had it,it still had its problems, but every romance story now is or the same we get over 2 decades shoujo,or some quirky romcom that just being quirky is the entire thing of it,and still zero communication, every romance for me that has it,its a top romance story for me. Edit:also I read Insomniacs After School long ago,and I relate so much as a guy having insomnia, its hard sleeping property when nothing makes just sleep, and I like how the show didnt show it as some joke but something people having it hate it and makes it harder for them.
I heard someone say its because in Japan the culture is 'you don't talk about it'. Honestly it explains a lot about what is wrong with the country in general. As well as why a lot of people are not getting into relationships over there.
Think you're mistaking romance for shojo. You say shojo like it's to blame for bad romance but 99% of romance we get for the last decade and a half is Shonen lmao, that's why there's so many ecchi harem lolicon garbage romance, you really think that's marketed to teen girls? Shojo is a demographic not a genre and shojo manga almost never get adapted to anime anymore certainly not the slice of life or romance ones.
I liked skip and loafer so much bc it reminded me of the webtoon odd girl out - hold that webtoon near and desr to my heart, it's so good. Super likeable characters, genuine and lovely relationships, amazing character development
Thank goodness that I’m not the only one with the same opinions as you. I honestly thought I was weird for not enjoying Horimiya, dress up darling and etc. I just felt like it was out of touch, maybe because my life is pretty simply/boring?😅 For me personally, my favorite anime of all time would have to be Lucky Star😚 I wonder if the anime someone likes says a lot about who they are(like mental wise?)
bro~, you shouldn't feel out of touch just because you don't enjoy mainstream stuff, especially in entertainment. I love Horimiya, I like dress-up darling, but hey, I couldn't bring myself to watch AoT or MHA. To each our own.
Horimiya is my favorite romance manga, because Miyamura is my type, its comedic taste suited mine and I was really bored of shows like Yamada7, Toradora or Clannad, when it really takes seasons for characters to realise that they like each other. It was very refreshing to actualy get a romance and see a couple being together and not "finally after all this episodes, at the end they can have first kiss or confes". In Horimiya action wasn't slow but still felt real for me and it was totally focused on romance and couple relationships. I don't like how slice of life usually is 90% of the show and maybe only 5% is actual romance
I think, aside from the realistic atmosphere of a high school setting, what gets to me about skip and loafer is how human the characters are. Like after the karaoke episode I was full-on ready for Egashira (Mika-chan) to be the "mean girl" antagonist as she had the classic set up: affection for Shima, shallow, seeming to single Mitsumi out - until you realize how very human she is. She's insecure, struggling with her self-image and overcompensating for it. She's flawed, but genuinely seeks real companionship and validation. By the time Mitsumi and her become friends, she became one of my favorite characters :'D
Skip & Loafer has nearly the same energy as Kimi Ni Todoke, which is probably why I love it from the beginning. The characters felt human, side characters get their moments to shine, and the whole vibe of the show is a comfort to me. I'm going to check out the Insomniac anime soon since it looks good, and you sold me to it.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought the vibes of these two anime were VERY similar!! Kimi Ni is a bit slower cause that's the style for older romance but I hope more newer anime fans will give it a go since I've heard there's a new season coming out
I appreciate you liking both Insomniacs After School and Skip and Loafer. As a general romance and slice of life fan, there were soooo many shows last season to watch, but these two really rose to the top as my favorites. Both shows really gave off a really nice and comfortable vibe.
You should watch Given, it's the best romance I've watched till now. It's more than a romance actually, it's more of a person's journey of moving on from a loss of a really important person and it really fills my heart, the way this anime handles the characters, the way they show you the raw and personal side of every character... It's just so good omfg 😭
I guess I enjoy every anime differently. For Horimiya, I loved the fun antics and the comedy is always on point. It's not entirely realistic but I can see my friends and I joking and talking nonsense most of the time like the characters do. For My Dress Up Darling, it's definitely a fan-service type of show but I ended up loving Gojo and Marin as individual characters cos they're lovable and endearing in their own way. BUT for Skip and Loafer, it's a whole other experience. I only got into it simply by chance cos the cover was so aesthetically pleasing. I gave it a shot and loved it immensely. Went to binge the manga after and it's still ongoing but I love how naturally the story progresses. I love Mitsumi so much, she is an absolute darling. Shima is a great character as well but a character that definitely needs a MAJOR shoutout is Mitsumi's aunt. She is an awesome pillar of support for our girl and our girl is an amazing support to her as well. The character building was beautiful for them. A must-watch if you have not ❤
bruh this dude my convincing me to watch animes I don't usually watch I was gonna skip blue lock and u made it watch it and I don't regret it now I might end up watching this too thank you tho
I just watched Skip and Loafer last night and I have the same feels. It made me wish I had that fun and whimsical high school life. And altho I didn't experience those, it did give some nostalgic feeling and remembered the good old days~ If you can, can you also watch A Sign of Affection and share what you think about it? Altho it's still an on going series.. 😅
The dangers in my heart is my top romance this season. Insomniacs after school is the strong second, loved and enjoyed the quitessential quintuplet copycat and skip and loafer was very enjoyable too. I m a sucker for romance
hey do u wanna some rlly good romance or romcom recommendations? it will be one of the best I've ever seen (i just feel like sharing to someone y'know? I've started seeing some animes last year and I've never talked too much abt it)
As an originally mainly romance series fan, the ones with realistic emotional (that actually reaches the heart) plot were ones like skip to loafer, theres many, Ao Haru Ride, Kono Oto Tomare, Kimi ni Todoke, Akatsuki no Yona and many more, but as someone who grew and graduated from that phase of my life, these are the only ones i remember, cuz theyre the only ones that truly touched me and those that i understood even from a young age had a deeper meaning behind and didnt just follow the generic trends of fanservice growing at the time now immensly common Now that im heavily exposed to shounen (action, adventure, sports) as well i can truly see what i actually liked was the person to person interactions and how the plots push these characters to communicate and grow and develop , from their pasts, their environment, their family to the point where the story starts and onwards you see this kind of thing in huge series like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Haikyuu!, Slam Dunk, Mob Psycho 100, A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, My hero academia (im not gonna mention more other super famous stuff cuz i dont think they affected me much emotionally, this is just my opinion, and everyone experiences stories completely differently from each other) So when even small time series that arent animes (manga for eg), those that aren't manga (manhwas), those that are even just novels, they take quite the time to gain fame and some unfortunately dont recieve this exposure, especially since the consumer consumption decreases as we go, and ive got personal favorites that far surpass the emotional involvement from other mainstream stories out there, but are simply not that famous. instead trends at the time of serialization influence them and if they dont got things like fanservice, trendy genre tropes, isekai content, cool animation...so on so forth, they dont end up getting a chance So for me, its really eye opening when someone expands further on this concept, that 'romance' is not just generalized unrealistic and girly and it expands on that its simply not just shoujo, anyone can enjoy it just for the feels and that really makes me happy cuz it tells me im not the only one who more or less is not vibing with current trends of series in general so thank you
@@kanikarajput4256 its been many many yrs for me since, like 7? yrs, and i still rmmber how good the anime and manga was, I'm glad you checked it out!🥰
What I really liked about Skip and Loafer is that it didn’t focus too much on the romance, it was more subtle and slice of life like. This is a spoiler from the manga, but in the manga Mitsumi also realizes there are more important things than a blossoming romance and so even though she does go out with Shima for a bit she is very realistic and decided that they need to “break up” and just be friends.
I miss myself a few minutes ago. Shouldn't have read past the spoiler HAHAHA, now I have to read the manga. But it definitely is something to look forward to, can't wait for it to be animated it's an interesting take on the story really
As someone who doesn't like the romance genre either but somehow got into those two anime and i just couldn't explain why that was so. I feel like i understand myself better now, you kinda voiced out or like put my emotions into words. This was just the best.
I feel like a lot of people who dislike romance anime just haven't seen any good ones, all the "romance" we've had in recent years have been marketed for teen boys and it's all just unrealistic excuses for pervy scenes between busty dream girls and the generic protag with the main goal of selling figures lol. Lots of great recs in the comments with similar vibes to skip and loafer, granted they tend to be a bit slower because thats how older anime is and all the good stuff is at least a decade old by now lol.
I loved Skip and Loafer because you see the MC actually hanging out with her friends!!!! So many romance anime have the friends only exist to talk about the MC's love interest and only appear when they somehow are needed to further the plot. I really liked that cause I haven't seen that in a good while haha. Kimi ni todoke also did that pretty well imo.
I hated my dress up darling but insomniacs after school is just comforting to watch. It’s wholesome yet real at the same time. I’ll probably get killed for this, but Marin is overrated.
I totally agree those were great shows, but I'm surprised you didn't touch on the sleeper show that went from #19 to #1 popularity over Oshi no ko. Dangers in my heart was amazing from a romance fans perspective, and fall among the same lines as these 2 you're talking about imo
I like Horimyia. I love skip and loafer and insomniacs. While skip and loafer has good comedy, the way the characters have such reasonable growth. How the glasses girl and hot girl became such good friends and are there for each other. How the manipulative bitch quickly realizes there is more to be gained by being real and that she is never going to get the hot guy. How she gets sucked into the friend group.
I love this anime... The MC isnt too girly with butterflies on her head... she's actually goofy/dorky and hilarious but at the same time a smart and hardworking student who inspires others. She isnt also irritating or annoying. I like her!
the friends group are unusual bunch, and that makes watching them going on with their life so refreshing. they came together because of mitsumi. she made them be themselves and she didn't even try, it just her being her.
I know what you mean, I been into romance anime since I was a kid, I like the ones where they slowly falls in love and lately the newer shows are great I used to be able to predict the entire shows as they all went the same, but Tomo-chan Is a Girl!, My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 (Highly recommend this one the love story is one of the more genuine one of how they falls in love with out it being instantly), Skip and Loafer is also such a good one, I'm glad you took a look at it I also loved the fact that Mitsumi didn't have the typical pretty girl face nor does it change into one. Instead she shines with the beauty that is her, her entire personality soaks through her appearance and it's not hard to fall in love with her while getting to know her more and more for every episode. A lot of these episodes tends to be shown from high school perspectives but there is one called My Clueless First Friend, it's about a fifth grader called Nishimura. They covers the theme of bullying as they have nicknamed her “Grim Reaper” TW though as it talks about death a few times, as she has lost her mother, but as a new boy joins her school named Takada you gets to see this kind of puppy love and how much things can change by having someone on your side, it's 13 episodes only so it's a fast show. I do hope you check some of these out as well, I will also make sure to check out your recommendation "Insomniacs After School" I can't wait to see it after how you described it. Lots of love from, Sweden
You should watch: Lovely ☆ Complex -Its super cute and funny! Also the English dub is a must watch Its super fun! I really wanted the Series to be longer when i watched it, it was lighthearted and full of colorful characters not to mention it looks gorgeous! And again the dub is *chef’s kiss*
@@karu Somehow, there was a raw and undescribable emotion that can make and somehow convince people to watch these two series. (which they are actually very good while Yamada and dangers in my heart being there too.)
Great video. I loved Skip and Loafer and Insomniacs After School. I feel like I've seen every romance anime out there and it was insanely refreshing to have characters that are just so..human. No fanservice, no drawn out drama. It was nice, I hope this trend in anime continues. Looking forward to more content from you! What's the song at 4:55?
Finally someone talking about my favourite manga! Honeslty i went into it as a massive slice of life and romance and shoujo fna thinking this was gonna be your average cute highschool life series with a hint of romance but it was just so much more than i expected! Not only is it one of the most realistic series ive read woth every conversation seeming natural and a lot of these situations were things ive actually experienced but i think where this story simple shines is its characters. Every character no matter whether tehyr were introduced in the first chapter or the second season is equally fleshed out and three dimentional. They felt like actual people i knew in real life and every character had a atleast one personality trait i could relate to. I feel like most manga or anime should be more like it- simple but very well done. I mean instead of focusing on making the most intriguing story line it more focuses on making the most out of the slice of life and romance ganres. I cant recommend it enough!
Hmm idk about Hori though, she has been a great character imo. Plus the whole "into masochism" thing was developed mostly because she liked how Miyamura acted toward his childhood friend and felt closer to him (that's how I saw it at least)
Its not a bad thing. I love both horimiya and dress up darling. But when you finish the Insomniacs after school you see their flaws as they are. Most romance anime is either too sugar coated or overly horny. I just can't sit and watch any of these two shows again. I love them but they were good for the first time. But currently I'm having hard time detaching myself from insomniacs after school. It's like saying goodbye to a close friend forever.
I wonder if you might not like Rascal Does Not Dream Of Bunnygirl Senpai. I used to not care much for romance anime anymore either and tend to like stories about strong friendships more, but in my adult weeb renaissance Bunnygirl Senpai was my own gateway drug that informed my tastes in the genre. The characters felt much more real than those of most anime despite the wild premise. And despite how it seems at first, it's not a harem anime. There is a sister most people don't like for almost the whole series that has an extremely emotional arc that got her into people's hearts - *and* it's less creepy than one might worry it will be, thankfully. Absolutely wild to see the imouto character trope played for something that isn't fanservice where incest is never portrayed as a valid option, and the issue is actually appropriately resolved, lmao. But I couldn't say anything more without spoilers. Just trust me, it isn't what you think it's going to be. Bunnygirl Senpai's whole initial presentation is just clickbait in anime form, tbfh. But it's that it turns away from the typical tropes of romance anime that makes me think you might just like it.
This is by far the best explanation as to why Skip and Loafer just hit the spot for me. I used to love romance anime/manga but at some point, it just got boring, predictable and (very) unrealistic. Skip and Loafer characters have realistic goals and characteristics. When Mitsumi aims to become a public servant and works hard for it, it feels so much more relatable than a FL whose goal is to be the wife of ML. Also, it has been ages since I've seen a proper book-smart FL. Most of the romance manga/anime fl are made to be ditzy and it's annoying. P.S: Read Spirit Fingers if you liked Skip and Loafer
My dress up darling is a romance targeted to the male gase. Now Horimiya I have to say the anime did not deliver the same level of emotion that the manga did. There is so much information that gives explanation to why they act certain ways and they take ages to have .. intimacy. They also talk about in a very light way with their friends (mostly Hori get caught by one of her friends because the way she been acting with Miyamura and she blushes when asked. They have a cute scene about how this experience would happen eventually in her life and that she she felt safe bcs it was him. She loves and trusts him). Miyamura get asked too and he basically say they are not entitled to any details because this is his treasure to share with her only (what a noble guy...). I really love the manga... but not the anime.. the anime was hushed and just... felt nothing like the manga. His interactions with Hori's family is AMAZING
damn i really need to introduce myself to these new romance animes. im still living in the past watching animes like inuyasha and fushigi yuugi, thanks for the recs, gonna find some time to give them a watch 👍
Skip and loafer is family friendly, much like spy x family. It's one of the rare animes that I ask friends and family to watch with me and we all enjoy it. Tbh, the booby jiggles animes are reserved for people who watch alone. That's how I see it
Little did you know there's a handful of simplistic anime like this. People just dont care unless they're mainstream. I remember telling classmates about how i watched slice of life anime like this, and i got called out as a 'poser weeb'. Cause they watched 'real' anime like shounen or anything that was borderline hentai. Studios like P.A. works are pretty popular for making this kind of concepts. Plot focused, but at the same time not too heavy and focused on character development and meaningful relationships.
I watched both of these weekly as they were coming out and loved seeing their progression and like you said they felt like real people especially skip and loafer! All the characters had something going on in their lives and are ever changing which is so good to see in anime
Dress up darling and Horimiya is SHOUJO.?! Ive always thought theyre intended for the male audience of all the shoujo shows you could compare the ones are not even shoujo to me. Lol. My personal shoujo faves that i would recommend : Skip beat ( love the plot , strong character development , would love to have season 2) Nodame Cantabile ( annoying the mc girl may be but I love her personality towards her passion in music) Kamisama Hajimemashita (VERY WHOLESOME ) Kodomo no Omocha ( damn this show was unpredictable in some parts but very comedic ) Of course Skip and Loafer is pretty damn. Good
I absolutely LOVED Skip and Loafer plus Horimiya, and Tomo Chan is a Girl, and Blue Spring Ride, and Say I Love You, Kimi ni Todoke, and My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999. The last 4 of that list are very much slice of life and very realistic. You should give them a try if you liked skip and loafer. Tomo chan is a girl is pretty funny.
as a romance genre especially on anime..I am so glad even someone like Gigguk appreciate great wholesome..fluffy well done manga and anime this season!!!
Skip and Loafer and whatever the astronomy one is called are my two favorite anime of all time. Can't believe they came out in the same season simultaneously. For the past 5 years, my Top 10 anime on MAL have remained the same. Untouched. But both of these took others' places instantly. Both of these anime coincidentally conquered the entire romance genre with some of the most realistic immersive writing I've ever seen in an anime story. No contrived tropes, as he says. I figured this video would only be covering Skip and Loafer, but then he started talking about the other one. And it's just like wow. I'm not the only one. Karu gets me.
your vid was so good that it made me change my mal score for insomniacs after school. skip and loafer is a masterpiece, the anime was such a good adaptation of the manga and for insomniacs after school, i def enjoyed it but i think w watching it weekly i just lost steam and kinda forgot how good it was. appreciated your vid! (it was the first one of yours i've watched, will def check out more from you!!)
i recently watched Josee the tiger and the fish wich is a romance movie and really got into it, to the point i bought the manga and liked it even more ! If you wanna watch it or something idk, i would like to hear your opinion about it maybe ? Keep on grinding man !
man these 2 with why raeliana ended up at dukes house were sooooo fun and wholesome i dont usally pick up manga for shojo anime but god i devoured both the manga's and god it only gets better i hope there is a s2
AGreed agreed , for the most part fr , just as them "My Teen Romantic Comedy" also does the job , even though it has a love triangle but how generic it felt for me was really awesome and mind refreshing , there are a couple more that were slice of life and romantic ( and there were others too that were good romance but ofc aren't based on real world --- like Darling in the Franxx , Yona of the Dawn etc. ) ------------------------------------ and to the people who have a sweet caring person well have "Angel next door spoils me rotten" , but definitely I think Skip a Loafer is relatable for much part of the audience to a real ground basis well there is one more "The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague" ( super wholesome relatable but with a very unique setting)
I like it when romance is blended with another genre so that the whole show don't just loop around same drama between characters that is having heart-skipping moments every two secs, it feels really limited, n as u said, contrived
skip and loafer was the best thing. loved the refreshing take and determined character. i loved how it was more of an open ending and it was good that way and didn't exactly become another romance show.
It felt liberating 😂
oh my god you just read my mind, i was thinking the exact same thing while i was watching that
I was expecting that too but then I was shock they resolved the misunderstanding so quickly 😂
Omg ASHJDAS so true I love how HUMAN it is. I can't wait for the next season, hope the animators take a good rest before making the next season
I rec danmei like 2ha and bl manhwa like anything by brothers without tommorrow and bl manga like touch within abyss for romance. (Espically some danmei they got the whole eternal love thing with angst)
THIS THIS IS WHAT I EXACTLY THINKING... THEY SPOKE EACH OTHER AND UDNERSTAND EACH OTHER.. WE CANT SEE THIS COMMUNATION IN ANY ROMANCE
I think the combination of slice of life and romance can be perfectly executed if it's more slice of life focused.
Just enjoy the daily lifes of characters and not thinking too much about getting into romance. No unnecessary drama, just people who are acting normal.
definitely, the romance also just slips in more seamlessly
@@karu hi :)

Skip and Loafer gave us that realism that we all wish to see in these genres we like so much. Anyways point is we need more animes like these two and also this was another great video :)

@@Strawbxrry210 R u guys forgetting that there's a new season of Horimiya that's adapting the cut content?
The thing is that they cut the manga so bad
Also, the way her stand out didn't make people think she's special like most anime main characters, she legit stand out in a weird way
i think sheis eye catching. maybe its the art style as a whole though. colors were nice and soft.pleasing to the eye
Try kaicho wa maid sama
mitsumi stand out cause of her hard work that inspired people in real life like hell i had a dream like her but shit! i never work hard like that, from studying and do homeworks,i rather waching tv, it make me feel worse

These are real insecurities and struggles of young adult relationships and skip and loafer isn’t even dramatic about it but it works, I think because it’s so relatable, and the characters are so loveable.
skip and loafer will always be a reminder of the good teenage days i wish i had

As a shoujo fan, I really like the romance anime that came out this season, Yamada 999, and Raeliana anime, but I was surprised that I also really liked Insomniacs After School, when I really did not like Dress Up Darling.
Fans of the raeliana manhwa KNOW how good it might be 😌

It's NOT a Shoujo - it's a Seinen.
@@eri_noemi1462 Whoops! My bad, thanks for the correction.

Insomniac After School is my most favorite romance while Skip and Loafer is my most favorite SOL of the Spring season. They both are sooo good.
Bruh
100% agree. I used to love having shows like lovely complex, kodomo no omocha, skip beat and other comedy romace anime that actually capture an audience, but nowadays, all we have are just shows with a bunch of unnecessary fanservice, that puts me off.
Have you tried “the angel next door spoils me rotten “?
Same. When I try to watch Dress up Darling and that pretty much naked scene shows up I literally pause and thought “is this H anime??”
It's good but meh at a lot of times@@burnaxel
She isn't a crying sack of emotions and brushes off failure quickly because she doesn't believe the world centers around her.
skip and loafer is a banger no cap
Finally the algorithm recommended another hidden gem. Haven't laughed at an anime review in quite a long time, but you won me over. Hope there are many more subs to come.
I think that both Horimiya and My dressup darling are more targeted to boys and even if they have romance, they are not shoujo but in fact shounen. Skip and Loafer definetly is much more shoujo-like, which is why it focuses more on the interaction between characters (and hence combining it with slice-of-life is so popular).
It's even more surprising too cause Skip and Loafer isn't a shojo. Genuinely I couldn't believe it. I think it's a shonen or a seinen
In my perception Horimiya it's not "more targed to" a certain audience, i see like a very balanced romance anime actually! It doens't have that very appealing scenes, but at the same time it's not too soft and dramatic. Most audiences can enjoy and be entertained. I personally liked it.
I liked Marin before she fully realized she was in love with Gojo. She became a bit dull after that. But it's an OK story.
Finally getting the recognition he deserved. Keep grinding king

Super likeable characters, genuine and lovely relationships, amazing character development
omg yes that webtoon is amazing!!!
I personally like the typical ones too , but these two shows are so criminally underrated it's insane
You should watch Given, it's the best romance I've watched till now. It's more than a romance actually, it's more of a person's journey of moving on from a loss of a really important person and it really fills my heart, the way this anime handles the characters, the way they show you the raw and personal side of every character... It's just so good omfg 😭
You should watch kamisama kiss 🙏🏻🙏🏻
thanks for the recommendation

I am completely romance repulsed 90% of the time but Skip and Loafer is really something I enjoyed watching through and through
videos like this bring back my enjoyment in anime that ive lost so long ago.
As an originally mainly romance series fan, the ones with realistic emotional (that actually reaches the heart) plot were ones like skip to loafer, theres many, Ao Haru Ride, Kono Oto Tomare, Kimi ni Todoke, Akatsuki no Yona and many more, but as someone who grew and graduated from that phase of my life, these are the only ones i remember, cuz theyre the only ones that truly touched me and those that i understood even from a young age had a deeper meaning behind and didnt just follow the generic trends of fanservice growing at the time now immensly common
Now that im heavily exposed to shounen (action, adventure, sports) as well i can truly see what i actually liked was the person to person interactions and how the plots push these characters to communicate and grow and develop , from their pasts, their environment, their family to the point where the story starts and onwards
you see this kind of thing in huge series like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Haikyuu!, Slam Dunk, Mob Psycho 100, A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, My hero academia (im not gonna mention more other super famous stuff cuz i dont think they affected me much emotionally, this is just my opinion, and everyone experiences stories completely differently from each other)
So when even small time series that arent animes (manga for eg), those that aren't manga (manhwas), those that are even just novels, they take quite the time to gain fame and some unfortunately dont recieve this exposure, especially since the consumer consumption decreases as we go, and ive got personal favorites that far surpass the emotional involvement from other mainstream stories out there, but are simply not that famous.
instead trends at the time of serialization influence them and if they dont got things like fanservice, trendy genre tropes, isekai content, cool animation...so on so forth, they dont end up getting a chance
So for me, its really eye opening when someone expands further on this concept, that 'romance' is not just generalized unrealistic and girly and it expands on that its simply not just shoujo, anyone can enjoy it just for the feels and that really makes me happy cuz it tells me im not the only one who more or less is not vibing with current trends of series in general
so thank you
i watched Ao Haru Ride on new year and end up liking it a lot!!
Lots of great recs in the comments with similar vibes to skip and loafer, granted they tend to be a bit slower because thats how older anime is and all the good stuff is at least a decade old by now lol.
i love skip and loafer because of how much it refuses to JUST be a ROMANCE anime. or i just love it cause i loveit idk
You growing fast congrats!
Thanks! 😃
@@karu no problem! :]
I’ll probably get killed for this, but Marin is overrated.
i... agree, isaki does what marin does but more wholesome and thus better imo
@@karu hi :) :) :) :) :)
fair
dont disrespect Marin like that ever again
fair, I loved them both.
YES YES YES! THANK YOU FOR COVERING THIS! I feel so seen-
I just like how 'real' this show is
I totally agree those were great shows, but I'm surprised you didn't touch on the sleeper show that went from #19 to #1 popularity over Oshi no ko. Dangers in my heart was amazing from a romance fans perspective, and fall among the same lines as these 2 you're talking about imo
It wasn’t a sleeper, the manga fans were just patient. It was alright, but it falls into typical romcom tropes
I like her!
the friends group are unusual bunch, and that makes watching them going on with their life so refreshing. they came together because of mitsumi. she made them be themselves and she didn't even try, it just her being her.
my best 5 romance anime are :
1 - kaichou wa maid sama (anime + manga)
2 - kimi ni todoke
3 - lovely complex
4 - kokoro connect
5 - bakuman
2:27 “she’s 15 btw get wrecked” lmao my fav part of this video
Lots of love from,
Sweden
ive really never been a fan of romance but skip and loafer sounds really cute, ill give it a watch soon
One of the only 10/10s I’ve watched in my life
You should watch:
Lovely ☆ Complex
-Its super cute and funny! Also the English dub is a must watch Its super fun!
I really wanted the Series to be longer when i watched it, it was lighthearted and full of colorful characters not to mention it looks gorgeous! And again the dub is *chef’s kiss*
This is by far your best video.
hmmm interesting, what made it stand out?
@@karu Somehow, there was a raw and undescribable emotion that can make and somehow convince people to watch these two series. (which they are actually very good while Yamada and dangers in my heart being there too.)
Dude this is the first video I've ever watched on your channel and I've become a fucking fan, u got my sub bro. TOO ENTERTAINING
THANK YOU
Hmm idk about Hori though, she has been a great character imo. Plus the whole "into masochism" thing was developed mostly because she liked how Miyamura acted toward his childhood friend and felt closer to him (that's how I saw it at least)
I just took it as comic relief, lol.
A Sign Of Affection
Is also super cute! It’s still running and I love it ❤
I wonder if you might not like Rascal Does Not Dream Of Bunnygirl Senpai.
Wait that second romance anime is literally just Call of the night without the vampire part
I love watching your videos, especially because the Zelda music always surprises me and makes me so happy 😭🥹
you'll love kimi ni todoke
OMG i was about to comment the same comment lol
Great video. I'm gonna give both anime a try. Keep up the good work!
have fun!
That's right, bro. These two were definitely my favorite roams yet.😌
damn i really need to introduce myself to these new romance animes. im still living in the past watching animes like inuyasha and fushigi yuugi, thanks for the recs, gonna find some time to give them a watch 👍
I had seen and loved Skip and Loafer for the same reasons you stated in this video! But I hadn’t heard of Insomniacs After School so thank you ❤
Skip and loafer is family friendly, much like spy x family. It's one of the rare animes that I ask friends and family to watch with me and we all enjoy it. Tbh, the booby jiggles animes are reserved for people who watch alone. That's how I see it
my 2 favorite romance anime... thank you so much for covering them.
Lol.
My personal shoujo faves that i would recommend :
Skip beat ( love the plot , strong character development , would love to have season 2)
Nodame Cantabile ( annoying the mc girl may be but I love her personality towards her passion in music)
Kamisama Hajimemashita (VERY WHOLESOME )
Kodomo no Omocha ( damn this show was unpredictable in some parts but very comedic )
Of course Skip and Loafer is pretty damn. Good
I absolutely LOVED Skip and Loafer plus Horimiya, and Tomo Chan is a Girl, and Blue Spring Ride, and Say I Love You, Kimi ni Todoke, and My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999. The last 4 of that list are very much slice of life and very realistic. You should give them a try if you liked skip and loafer. Tomo chan is a girl is pretty funny.
My favorite anime RUclipsr with a W video

Thanks. This is good insight. Just what I needed! Thank you!
as a romance genre especially on anime..I am so glad even someone like Gigguk appreciate great wholesome..fluffy well done manga and anime this season!!!
Isaki magari has transcended best girl and waifu material. Nakami is hers and nothing can change that.
your vid was so good that it made me change my mal score for insomniacs after school. skip and loafer is a masterpiece, the anime was such a good adaptation of the manga and for insomniacs after school, i def enjoyed it but i think w watching it weekly i just lost steam and kinda forgot how good it was. appreciated your vid!
Keep on grinding man !
ohhhh this anime, i've watched the trailer. it looks pretty, just haven't gotten around to it
2:52 XENOBLADE Soundtrack, thank you, you made my day 😊
What's the song called?
This is the best one piece related video i have ever seen...
yes
such an amazing season for anime!! really hope both of these get another season - true gems
man these 2 with why raeliana ended up at dukes house were sooooo fun and wholesome i dont usally pick up manga for shojo anime but god i devoured both the manga's and god it only gets better i hope there is a s2
AGreed agreed , for the most part fr , just as them "My Teen Romantic Comedy" also does the job , even though it has a love triangle but how generic it felt for me was really awesome and mind refreshing , there are a couple more that were slice of life and romantic ( and there were others too that were good romance but ofc aren't based on real world --- like Darling in the Franxx , Yona of the Dawn etc. ) ------------------------------------ and to the people who have a sweet caring person well have "Angel next door spoils me rotten" , but definitely I think Skip a Loafer is relatable for much part of the audience to a real ground basis
well there is one more "The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague" ( super wholesome relatable but with a very unique setting)
Bro your making very good points about this girl and I'm sure she's great but lets not disrespect marin. Two legends can co-exist
LOL i admire you drafting the peace treaty
@@karu hi :) :)
bro the most underrated channel on youtube oersonally
I like it when romance is blended with another genre so that the whole show don't just loop around same drama between characters that is having heart-skipping moments every two secs, it feels really limited, n as u said, contrived
Que sera sera , whatever will be will be
The future's not ours to see ~
Que sera sera
Whats the song that starts at 4:44 ?
skip and loafer was the best thing. loved the refreshing take and determined character. i loved how it was more of an open ending and it was good that way and didn't exactly become another romance show.
Hi i am new here and keep up the good work
Welcome!
