    Ive been in the business 9 years and you love your content man! My one suggestion would be to offload the number of relationships you have - your avg client size is 48k? 250 families with that AUM is going to be very hard to scale/be profitable AND provide amazing service. Less clients, bigger assets is the name of the game. I dont know how there would even be a profit on. 48k client after your factor in your time/tax. ect I understand its a long term investment in them but many wont build up as quick as you think.

    • @JoshOlfertCFP
      @JoshOlfertCFP  2 года назад +1

      Great point!
      I was 19 when I entered the business so I started a lot of those people off from scratch at $0. The median skews much higher (I could probably go down to 150 and still be at $11M).
      For now it’s not a burden and they generate enough serendipity (referrals, etc) for me to be grateful for.
      It’s hard to see a future 10 years our where this is still the case.

    I'm a college student in NY and I'm planning on going to business school and if by any chance I don't get in, I'll do a business studies minor. I'm looking to explore the financial side of this and hopefully get into the financial advisory field once I graduate. Is there anything you could recommend or anything I should also learn throughout my years in college? What can I do to aspire to be the best at what I do?

      @JoshOlfertCFP  2 года назад +1

      Hey Abby! Thanks for stopping in. This is a great question and really depends where you are. I think its a great idea to look for RIAs in your area as opposed to working with a big bank or brokerage. The independent world is the future in my opinion. Its tough to recommend something more concrete without knowing more. Hope this helps!

    I had those ideas about media and methods you been speaking about to do my financial business but when I tried doing them. They had smru or the higher up told me to take it down and that I am unable to do anything like that and it is forbidden and I need to use smru approved materials which is their articles 1 min read. What I should do?

    • @JoshOlfertCFP
      @JoshOlfertCFP  2 года назад

      Do whatever you can to find another firm that will, or go independent. Its a brutal reality but if you want to set yourself apart and pursue higher leverage marketing methods you can't operate in that paradigm.

    How do I get someone to have a meeting with me with necessarily letting them know my business plans. So I call someone and I say I want to have a meeting with them and they ask for the reason for the meeting, what do I say?

    • @JoshOlfertCFP
      @JoshOlfertCFP  Год назад

      It all starts with having curiosity in relationships as opposed to an agenda. The awkwardness disappears when you're genuinely trying to research your prospects problems without expecting their business. You're trying to determine if the problem they have is something you can solve. Advisor training has become so cookie-cutter that its easy for everyone to seem like a nail to our hammer. Instead, become a great conversationalist. Ask great questions. Over time you'll be able to identify everything you need to know about someone without them feeling like they're being run through a "fact find". If you take this approach, it becomes sincere to meet with someone on the basis of "research" or "getting their thoughts" as opposed to making a sale. This brings down the walls without being disingenuous.

  • @sdmit2000
    @sdmit2000 Год назад +1

    No offense, I never understood why you'd take investment advise from a salesman. But that's how the world works.

    • @JoshOlfertCFP
      @JoshOlfertCFP  Год назад +2

      That's a fair question! But its been my experience that people who work with an advisor have substantially more effective portfolios and financial plans than those who just do what their friends tell them or copy what they hear about billionaire's portfolios on RUclips. You have to pay to access personalized advice and there needs to be an incentive for someone to provide it.
      The root issue here is whether you have a realistic view of sales or a perception of it as black-and-white pure evil with no virtue. Sales is really just helping people commit to doing what they should be doing. Convincing someone to do something they shouldn't for your gain isn't effective or fulfilling sales, its myopic self serving manipulation.
