    Listen brother, what you went through is called life! I'm really impressed - a lot of people (maybe most people) don't have the courage to keep moving forward when things don't go their way. They settle and live a life without full satisfaction. You are unique - a real breath of fresh air! I turn 59 in August, I've driven truck over the road for 30 years. Six years ago, after 3 or 4 unsuccessful attempts - I got serious and went back to school while driving truck over the road. I graduated with honors. I was offered a position in my company to come out of the truck and manage the logistics for our road division. I took a pay cut but I'm home every night. I have a passion for finances and study on it quite a bit. To the point that I'm thinking about going back to school to get licensed and certified as a CPF. I don't want to turn it into a big business, I would like to do it to supplement my retirement and to teach young people how to set up their retirement. High school and parents (a lot of them don't know themselves) don't teach this and kids waste a lot of time and money because of (like you said) buying cars and stuff that's going to go away. I'll be watching all of or I know a lot more of your videos! Great job!

    Fantastic video, Josh. I love the raw honesty and your ability to set your ego aside and talk about your past failures. Most people sweep their failures under a mat and never talk about it, or they'll blame others for their past mistakes instead of learning from them. Your emotional intelligence and maturity is admirable.

    Thanks so much for sharing your story Josh. I did not have the same moments or epiphanies as a kid. I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Lots of ideas (too many), I finally had my epiphany while driving uberx having conversations with people about what their plans were in life. I realized I wanted to have the knowledge and ability to help them achieve their dreams, not just help them dream and maybe identify the questions to ask those who could help them.
    I saw a lot of myself in you. Thanks for the encouragement! I look forward to more of your videos.

    Hi from Australia. I've followed your channel for sometime. Our past are so alike, what you've experienced were soooo similar to what I have wasted in my good young 20s and early 30s. Now I am just quietly in 101 Financial planning, thinking why the hech I didn't start this before I knew all those "get rich quick" youtube channels😅🙃😂. I have just realised that Financial freedom and weight loss are two life style things that you need patience and not onece off project. Loved your channel, keep up the good work. This is where I come to find good motivation or positive energy as well, especially when each time I think should I keep sticking to FP or should I go into asset management or some sort. Thanks!

    Another great video! As a student on the current journey to obtaining my CFP designation, stumbling upon your channel a couple months ago has been so incredibly insightful and helpful. Hearing your story, it honestly sounds like you’re retelling my childhood into adulthood. I relate to a lot of what you mentioned and I’m eager myself to see how my future unfolds and how your content will continue to help me grow and develop. I do have one question for you and it might be different in Canada than the states, but you’ve mentioned before being an independent financial advisor. How does that compare or differ to being a financial planner for a larger firm, or being at an RIA?

    • @JoshOlfertCFP
      @JoshOlfertCFP  Год назад +1

      Love to hear it Emma! Happy to have you here. Independent up in Canada just means “not a large bank brokerage or wire house” - an RIA fits that description. It just allows you to chart your own course in terms of your offer, your pricing, your marketing, etc. it’s a better way to customize your client experience and your own life
