    Mike I really wish I watched this video a year ago. This is spot on. Unfortunately many people like me will not realize this until it’s too late. My tip: ASK MORE QUESTIONS IN THE INTERVIEW. They need you, they won’t tell you to leave.

    Thank you for sharing this information. This is the best advice I’ve heard anyone give regrading the financial advisor career path.

    Super glad I found this channel when I did. I’m currently in the transition from financial product sales firm to an actual role as an advisor associate with a great firm. Thanks man.

    I know this video is old, but thank you so much for putting this information together. I am switching careers and really interested in the training that the firm I partner with will provide and the opportunity to learn from the best. Your insight helps me get a list of questions together that will help me decide on the right firm to join.

    I appreciate the content you put out on both RUclips and Podcasts. Not many FA sharing knowledge and experience for the rest of the industry. I recently completed my 215, series 7 and 66, and contracted with a wirehouse last week. I'm 21, hungry, bilingual, and GREAT with people. I se myself having great success as an FA but want to lay a proper foundation. I'd love to chat sometime. Thank you again.

    Hi Mr. Mike!
    What's your opinion about Morgan Stanley? Is it a big enough company to work for? Thanks!

    Hi Mike I’m interviewing with AXA currenrly. What is your view of them?

      @@xXDeMortalXx I haven’t worked for AXA, but from my experience, they are big time salesmen who push annuities to nearly every one regardless of suitability. Several of my young coworkers fell for their 403b pitch and have annuities they can’t get out from under.

    Hey Mike, I recently joined Mutual of Omaha as a "Financial Advisor" they have a program to sponsor the 65 but its a year down the road. Regardless, I've done the 65 on my own. From what you just said I tend to realise that it is more of a sales job than a FA job. But what do you recommend? Should I just stick with it and get some experience in the industry before moving on? Or just moving on?

    • @MichaelKitces
      @MichaelKitces  6 лет назад

      It depends on the nature of the experience you're getting, and whether you really think it's worthwhile. In general, I think ANY experience has some positives - see www.kitces.com/blog/10-tips-for-new-financial-planners-to-maximize-career-progression/
      But if you don't see your future with the firm anyway, and you CAN find another opportunity, I'm not sure what the point is in waiting? You'll be getting experience wherever you go, too, as long as you're employed... :)

    • @srbell67
      @srbell67 6 лет назад

      Michael Kitces haha. Btw, why did not you ever call out the CFP Board for reducing the length of their exam from 10 to 6 hours and thus, making it easier for new entrants in an era when that should not be the case?

    • @MichaelKitces
      @MichaelKitces  6 лет назад

      @srbell67 I covered the exam change when it happened back in 2014. See www.kitces.com/blog/news-highlight-cfp-board-reduces-length-of-cfp-exam-from-10-hours-to-a-6-hour-single-day-test/
      But the key point is that reducing the LENGTH of the exam has NO relationship to the difficulty of the exam. They could make a stupidly hard 3-question exam if they wanted. You'd still have to take all the courses, and do all the studying, because who knows which of the CFP Exam Topics would be covered in "just" 3 questions!
      And in point of fact, the exam pass rates for the past year are actually slightly LOWER than the last year of exams before the shorter-exam change went through!
