Hello! I appreciate this video and it is easy to follow, , it would be nice if you can upload videos about real case of rainfall-runoff with pre-/post-processing with QGIS.
Thank you for this video!!! Can you please explain what do you mean by "CFL conditions" that we can find in the documentation?and if you could further explain that would be great
Hi sir! Please can you make the video on how to resolve the following issure in HEC RAS " Unable to compute face tables. The terrain associated with this geometry does not completely cover the 2D flow area "

Its very usual this empty space between two water bodies (as two wave fronts - separation of flow) in HEC RAS 2D, but in fact this doesnt happen in the reality. What would you consider as the mistake or how to solve it?
very good simulation, a query, if there is already a dam at point upstream , the dimensions of this and the gap break would be the same steps to generate the flood map in front of an overflow from the dam ??, thanks for your reply.
the simulation would be like if placed upstream dam and inundation areas , such as meshes ?? serious , I hope you understand me perfectly not write the English , thanks for your reply
+James Vidal If you want to simulate a dam break in upstream and find the flood maps in downstream, you can use both 1d and 2d. So you will place a dam which is storage area. You will have to give the storage-discharge relation of the dam. Then you will connect the storage area with the 2d area (for flood plain mapping at downstream of the dam). There is an option in geometry editor to connect these two. There is one example for this case in hec-ras's downloaded files. Take a look at Bald Eagle example.

how can the simulation be done for single peak flood (let's say 50 years return period flood) and also generate cross sections in equal interval along a river line with peak flood water level on the section?
hello, I have 2 scenarios whereby the 1st one I was not happy with the level of surface water as my 1:2 yrs. was above my proposed bridge so on the 2nd analysis I modified my NGL levels on the cross sections tab from what they were initially so I can have more area covering for more surface water but both my results after analysis are still the same, the water level did not drop, is there something I am suppose to add for the change to occur?
Hello Users, I just need some insights on Breaklines. I have added breaklines into the 2d mesh area and enforced them as internal connections and entered weir data as top spillway elevation at 700m to the connections assuming they are acting as Embankments/weirs to the reservoir. But After I ran the Unsteady flow model successfully, in the results section in the RAS Mapper Water still flowing over the embankments at 653.55 only without filling the reservoir up to 700m elevation. What Should I do? Thank you in Advance #HECRAS #2dMODELING
Hi, I am running an unsteady simulation and run was successful each time but I can't see the detailed output log and giving the error"there is no log to show! I have checked all the boxes under output option. How can I manage this error? thanks in advance.
Hello, i write to u because i'm studying geography and i have to do my own proyect. For this project i have to use Hec to simulate an inundation. I already do the simulation but in the results the flow simulation dont see the correctly because in the time step the flood up and down constantly but this is not uniform. Do u know what is the problem with the simulation? Please help me!
Hello. Very interesting! Please help me with this: I have created a Terrain in RAS mapper but when I go back to Geometric Data window, the terrain isn't displaying as in the video.
Thanks, great intro video. I used my own data sets to run a simulation and end up getting the same as you at the end (looking like a small flood coming down dry channel but disappearing before filling the channel). Is there an easy way to start with a wet channel at a certain baseflow and then ramp up with flows in hydrograph? Thanks so much! -
Great to hear that you have some good start. You definitely can start the model with a baseflow or a initial conditions. It depends on your data set. For example You can define a boundary condition at upstream as a hudrograph. It depends on what you want to do. If you want you can send me email info@navid.org I may help you more from there.
hello, thank you for the tutorial. I have followed all the way you instruct. However, after specifying the Spacing DX and DY, my project does not show the meshes. It says "Current Mesh does not contain Computational Points" Could you please instruct me where the actual problem is. Thank you Sorry for disturbing you
+yari castillo You could refer to dimensionless SCS unit hydrograph method and construct a unit hydrograph for your watershed and then if you know your net rainfall you can find your hydrograph. If you only have Q_peak for different return periods and you have the duration of each event then you can construct a hydrograph by simply assuming it as triangular. It depends on how much effort you want to put on your work. For more information you could contact with me.
you should edit your dem file to add the canal to your dem. Use QGIS for this purpose. Google about how to edit dem. once you edit your dem you can get flow profiles after simulation and get the profiles as cross-sections in hec-ras
Hi, Im having some issues whilst writing the geometry during the un-steady flow simulation stage, i am getting an error message 'Error completing geometry for computations: Unable to compute face tables. The terrain associated with this geometry does not completely cover the 2D Flow Area' I have attempted to resolve this issue myself with no luck and was wondering if you would be able to help me out. I am teaching myself to use HEC-RAS for my dissertation which is due in a couple of weeks so only have a basic knowledge of how to use the programme and would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.
hi bro navid jadid, i love the way u teach us with your tutorials, mmmmm i have question for u, how to undo and redo in HEC-RAS 5.0.3.? please help me.!
Thanks for the video. Please, Help me. How do I input the mannings value's for different regions of the 2D flow area? Is possible input cross section in the 2D flow area, for results analysis?
Navid Jadidoleslam, thanks for your video. I just have Land cover data. But when i upload to land cover layer of Ras Mapper. it could not to accept this data... " landcover.shp has 0 features".?? How to do it?? Everybody, who has to make a video for " creating a manning regions". Psl, show it. Thanks so much!
Dear Navid Jan. The topic of my master degree thesis is "Flood Analysis and Forecasting under Climate Change Scenario for the Kunduz River Basin, as the Main Tributary of Amu River in Afghanistan." the only thing I need is to download Digital Terrain Model and Digital Elevation Model for the Kunduz River in Afghanistan. I want to simulate flooding in the channel of the river and area surrounded by the river using RAS Mapper in HEC-RAS 5.0.1. However, I do not know how to find and where to find these Data (Digital Terrain Model and Digital Elevation Model). If you just guide me how to download it, I would appreciate it. Thank you very much.
hello sir.. i have a 2 question.. first is how to get the terrain? where to download it? is it possible that i can simulate the river here in my city but i cannot find where to get the terrain.. second question is how to fix the missing wave? i follow the instruction but i cannot find the settings you telling about.. hoping for your reply sir.. thank you very much..
You can download DEM from this link: srtm.csi.cgiar.org/SELECTION/inputCoord.asp You have to check the elevation map (or terrain) yourself and make sure that it detects the landscape features. Missing wave could be fixed by rough calculation checking CFL conditions. You can google CFL conditions. You may read other comments as well.

How I can estimate the impact of hydro- and thermo-peaking ?
Minascurta Ion what do you mean by thermal peaking? ice melt?
estimate the impact of hydro- and thermo-peaking on the Adige River due to the intermittent release of variable discharges with the
temperature different from that of the recipient water body.
Data:
•estimate discharge peaks from available data of the hydropower plant
•test different temperature anomalies in the different seasons
you have to use HEC-HMS first so that you could find your inflow hydrographs. HEC-RAS is only for hydraulic analysis.

hi may i know what's the source of your DEM?
You can use SRTM elevation data for your project. My data is from Lidar.
i have downloaded ASTER GDEM from earthdata however when i convert the raster to TIN the Z for river is higher than land...
That might be because of the low resolution of the DEM.
i see....actually i also have this DEM from IFSAR however when i plot the cross section, the profile is kinda weird, it's flat on the end and my river Z is 0...i read a paper the author said she generated TIN from river cross section....sorry for bother u with this, but is that possible?
That is possible. But you have to google to find out how to do that.
