I am unbelievably happy that Murray Gold is back working his magic. I associate this song so much with tragedy. Clara has died, the Doctor has been teleported away to be tortured. He toils for billions of years to break his way out. Hearing it used as a heroic theme is really good. The Doctor, for countless ages, has been there to defend humanity from threats it can't handle. It's a fitting song to turn heroic.
Peter Capaldi did say he wasn’t going to return to Doctor Who so all I asked for the 60th anniversary was to hear music from 12th Era. Shepherd’s Boy definitely got me and just thought of Breaking the Wall
I'm not sure about this but towards the end of the episode (spoilers ahead) when 15 and 14 are talking about how 14 needs to stop and settle down I sounds like every Christmas is last Christmas is playing, one of the more underrated pieces for capaldis era. Again it could definitely be something but worth a listen
@@RubbishGamePlayI thought that I was the only person but I’ve been hearing that too. It think that they reprised it in ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ as well during one of the Tardis scenes but the composition might just sound similar.
Literally, I couldn't agree more. Hope of saving Gallifrey, hope of escaping the confession dial, hope of saving the Mondasians, hope of a new regeneration, and now hope of saving the Earth.
@@TheTuckerVision Okay. So you were completely asleep with the ominous theme the Toymaker has when The Doctor identifies him? You know, the theme which makes one go, "Could we please deal with a Time War Dalek Empire instead?" And that's just one example of the great new bits of music. I mean, were you not listening at The End of The Giggle at 15's theme?
@@RenSako They didnt play the whole track but its clear it has the same main motif that flows through shepherds boy here. The UNIT Rocks baseline is also heard sporadically when the Doctor enters unit. Additional used themes include the companion themes during the puppet show, Donna's theme when she bashes the babies and The Master Race in the UNIT base. Its pretty clear to pick them out you must be tone deaf
That was a standout little bit of bombastic music from the episode, and I missed that little melodic reference watching it the first time! Sounds pretty cool. :)
@@RenSako I can't wrap my head around your out-of-place frustration and hyperbolic rudeness. Anyway, it's not just two chords, it's a very distinct motif leading up to the "I Am the Doctor" bit: ruclips.net/video/A55gTcEJZSk/видео.html
@@RenSako I'm a musician as well (even though you really don't need to be to recognize a theme lol) and very very obsessed with Gold's work (literally have a whole channel about his music) and I see it very clearly. I've discussed it with members from the John Williams fan-forum and we all agree it's totally there. Most of them are musicians and composers.
i adore the way Murray's themes have presented as motifs for scene specific scores over the past 3 episodes. It makes for a much better edit than the old style of recording theme tracks and then patchworking them into the episode
I actually wish they'd gone for doing that. Donna's theme for a quick minute after she appears. The Doctor Forever after London is saved in episode 1. The Waters of Mars rescue/doctor theme over when the Doctor went back to rescue Donna from the ship in episode 2. For episode 3, perhaps all the strange strange creatures, the original UNIT theme, and the original (or very close) variation of Shepherd's boy like in The Doctor Falls.
SPOILERS FOR 'THE GIGGLE'!: I can't fact-check it but I swear in the scene where where 14, 15 and donna are in the tardis, right before 15 got the idea to split the tardis in two, you could hear a reprised version of "every christmas is last christmas", another soundtrack from the 12th doctors era. Is it possible that you could please upload this music as well?
Been thinking the exact same thing glad I'm not the only one! Sounds super similar and it also appeared in a previous tardis scene in the specials but I'm not sure which one (probably wild blue yonder)
Any chance you could yoink out the music from when the Toymaker fires the laser at the Doctor? It sounded weirdly heroic, so I'm assuming it's a reprise I didn't recognize lol
Oh, there it is. Silly old London/Earth/the Human Race. The more I save it, the more it needs saving… … … Well I suppose one more time wouldn't kill anyone.
Its fitting, as the first time we ever heard that mastpiece was in Day of the Doctor over 10 years ago in "This Time There's Three of Us"
That's a beautiful way of seeing it well done!

Are you serious? There's nothing special about the music compared to the 50th or actually 11th/10th doctor run, it's all boring music
