not many ppl give it credit it deserves. But yes. Depp had tons of bad movies and this one aside from his work is mediocre if not weak, but damn the performance is incredible. Wish he had more characters like this to play
Was looking for this comment. Exactly. The long pause from 3:03 to 3:13 Reminds me of the part where Tommy goes, "No, no, I don’t know, you said it. How do I know? You said I’m funny. How the fuck am I funny, what the fuck is so funny about me? Tell me, tell me what’s funny!" then there's a long pause. Henry finally responds, "Get the fuck out of here, Tommy!" and everyone laughs.
Also when he goes to question the landlord at the trailer park about moss. You hear the toilet flush and you see him look. You can tell that he was definitely thinking about murdering her if there hadn't been someone else there. Terrifying.
When I first saw this movie, I watched this scene in utter silence like I was at the table with these guys, sitting right next to Whitey.. Scene still gives me goosebumps. Johnny Depp your beyond phenomenal 👏🏽👍🏽
Harbour and Depp are amazing in this scene. I remember the first time I watched this. It literally gave me anxiety. My palms got sweaty, my heart rate picked up and then I realized I was holding my breath. Amazing work.
Terrifies FBI dude, low-key death threatening him using steak marinating recipe and then goes upstairs to give a taste of strangulation to his colleague's wife, in their own bedroom. My dude Whitey!

whitey was known as having "eyes that can see right through you" by people that knew him... i never saw any of the trailers for this film i seen it on blu ray just a couple of days ago and johnny depp was absolutely terrifying in this scene... outstanding work.
Jimmy may have been joking, but ofc he wasn’t. No one can fake that level of seriousness like that. Morris is lucky he got out of there alive. Johnny should’ve been nominated for this, how could they miss him
Who else felt the need to shut up during Whitey's speech about "just saying"? You could really feel the tension in the room. At the table. In your chair. One wrong move. Even a sneeze. If Whitey stared over at you, you're dead.
In this scene you can find not only the brilliant play of an actors, but also truth of the life. One of the important true man’s habit is to watch your mouth for all the times. This lesson I learned in my life plenty of times. If you are the man, you must be man of your word. But make sure your word doesn’t get you into a unnecessary situation
I mean what was the guy supposed to do? He was probably predicting that he would get killed if he didn't tell Bulger the recipe. A good save would be if he said something like "it is a family recipe and I consider you part of my family".
*In my Whitey Bulger voice* "Consider me family? No, no,no Morris.. I ain't no fuckin kin to you. Did I ever tell yous that I considered you family? Yet here you are spilling generations of secrecy to me.." There's no right answer for a psycho cuz🤷🏽♂️
@@incognito_bitch8513 I had no idea all these years it was him. And here I was saying he wasn't getting enough roles. Which, I mean, is still true. Either way, nice surprise!
Peschi(Tommy) would have snapped first and shot him probably. Tommy was a bit more unhinged and had less patience. The real Tommy once walked up and shot a random person in broad daylight just to do it.
Whitey and Morris are the focal of this scene. But the nervous energy of Connolly and the literal unmoving Flemmi make such a dichotomy that Whitey and Morris dance between. This scene is impeccably staged and acted. The lack of action from Flemmi is perfect for his character's will at the time, versus Connolly's nervousness of being caught, to Morris's realization he is in over his head, to Whitey's command over everything, that only exists if everyone plays along. Such amazing acting from Johnny, David, Rory and Joel.
For a while it seemed like all Hollywood wanted out of Depp was Jack Sparrow type roles. The early pirates films were great but it's really cool to see him disappear into a completely different kind of role like this. The dude is chilling, like a straight up vampire questioning you at the dinner table lol. I should really check this one out.

Half garlic clove, fresh thyme 6 minutes on one side of cast iron skillet, 6 minutes on the other (for medium rare ) with continued basting of butter. Remove from cast iron skillet and put in the oven, 375 for 20 minutes, use a meat thermometer and when the meat reads between 140 and 150, take it out, let it sit for 5 minutes (it will literally continue to cook even outside the oven) let it rest 5 minutes before cutting into it. If THAT'S not the best God damn steak you ever had then you fuckin did it wrong. Follow those directions to the T, and if you're cooking for a new chick, you'll be in bed AFTER she finishes, it'll be so damn good she won't want to "skip right to desert " if it's for your family, tell them a werewolf taught you how. I know I'm just a stranger on RUclips, but sometimes, a person isn't trying to pull one over on you and is actually telling the truth. My biggest question is, how the hell do you marinate a steak in just "ground garlic and a little bit of soy". What's your coverage like? How much soy? Do you add water? TELL ME, MORRIS!!! I'd love to see a sketch of this scene where Morris is like, "It's a recipe", and Whitey's like, "No......no, that's not a recipe. That's bullshit. Two ingredients isn't a fucking recipe, what else did you use? What soy? Like the sauce? The bean? What the fuck is a 'little bit'? Don't look to John cause he's not gonna fuckin help you"
