  • This is another video in my series “ Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I take a walk in and around the pretty village of St Mary Bourne which is situated about 5 miles North East of Andover in Hampshire.
I park my car at the free parish car park by the village stores and start my 5 mile circular walk with a wander through St Mary Bourne.
Starting from the Eastern end of the village, I pass by a number of enchanting thatched houses & cottages before visiting the church of St Peter which has a splendid “Tournai” font inside - one of 4 such fonts in Hampshire.
I continue Westwards past the George Inn, the Bourne Rivulet and on to the more delightful houses before heading back to the pub and down Spring Hill Lane - which takes me into the countryside.
My route takes me North alongside fields and through a copse before heading West to the hamlet of Wadwick. My return journey to St Mary Bourne is along Long Hedge Drove (part of the Brenda Parker Way). I finish up at the pretty lake in the village, close to the recreation ground, before my final destination - The George Inn.
The weather was perfect for my walk - a sunny, bright Spring day.
PS Sorry about the poor quality of film footage inside the church - the Gopro was struggling to cope with the low light conditions.

A plethora of impossibily pretty cottages! The church was intriguing with what looked like a star of David incorporated into the design of the stained glass window and a topiary cross in the churchyard - and of course the magnificent font. All set in stunning countryside! Lovely to see Logan running free too. Thanks for making and sharing the video.

I actually really enjoyed that. the house at 17 mins is one of the oldest houses in st Mary Bourne. the house next door is where James blunt grew up. and the hill in between the two leads to my nans house and the beautiful wakeswood estate. a lovely nice bit of nostalgia. looking forward to my next visit all the way from Aberdeen. thanks. nice hound too.

Well done Dave. Superb walk around the pretty village and countryside. I was hoping you would tell me the name of that cottage I thought I recognised, but couldn’t remember it’s name. It is Warwick, so you were correct with your pronunciation. In fact, I’ve never seen it called Warwick. As I mentioned in my comments on your Facebook pictures, the village can flood quite badly, although Southern Water spent a lot of time and money, I think on a pumping station up the road towards Stoke.

Thanks Lionel. I expect the "Bourne" can be somewhat different after a lot of rain!

@@DaveFord Just noticed my spell checker who thinks it knows more than me, changed Wadwick to Warwick. You have to watch these annoying little corrections. Wadwick it is.
