This is great! i purchased an auction lot of bows and several need restringing. you make it look easy with great explanations. thank you! Also, love your dog telling you it’s time to go🐾♥️🐾
Thanks so much for posting this! I actually did my own at the last Cove Lake psaltery gathering but haven’t needed to do it again since then. It will be nice to have a reminder when the time comes! I hope you do the same thing for replacing a broken string😊
Very good information how to do it with the bow! Since a week I use a Tenor Psaltery and learn. But my bow looks more like a real Violine bow, but only much shorter and curves looking like your bow. Do not know if your bow may sound little bit different from my bow? My hairs a more broad than your hairs. Interesting how you used the Rosin dust to bring onto the hairs.
This is I guess the standard bow design. Unfortunately I have a different design which instead of slots, runs the hair through holes at both ends. Tiny holes through which it's kind of impossible to string hairs through. Maybe I have to literally run the hairs through one at a time and then tie it off but I don't see another way to do it.
There's no standard bow design for the psaltery, just what builders came up with on their on. I have seen the type you have, but haven't tried to re-hair one.
@@Psalteryman Thanks for the feedback. I eventually got it in, had to carefully crop a shock of hairs to as clean a stub as possible. It was messy and looks inadequately small but it works for now. I wouldn't want another bow like this, it's way too difficult and limiting. The slots are way easier, definitely the way to go.
My psaltery bow is not like that. It has clips at either end holding the strings flat like a violin bow's. Do you know anything about this style? Where can I get replacement clips? I think the hairs are glued in place and then the metal clip is folded over.
I have been looking, unsuccesfuly, for vendors / makers of stringed psalteries in late 2023. Have placed queries on several RUclips channels and a few emails. Can you name anyone now active selling?
Email me at psalteryman@gmail.com and I will send you pictures and information on the tenor psalteries I build and sell. None available at the moment. I currently only build to order.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that style of bow and how to re-hair them.
