People can say what they want about predatory dealers, but the truth is they wouldn’t get away with it if people weren’t stupid enough to keep paying it.
This is also true. But I think sales people today are very good at convincing people this is how it has to be and all the other bs they do. Including using your own words to turn it around and make it an emotional buy.
That's true. People were stupid, easily trusting, and gullible. But thanks to youtube, with the oversaturation of channels like #op, lots of peoplearebecoming smarter. Realizing the scamminess of dealerships.
@johnendalk6537 yep youtube sure does help people looking to buy get educated and do the research. Love hearing about people nit getting taken advantage of and having a good buying experience.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Don't blame the young lady walking home for the creeps hiding in the bushes waiting to pounce.
Back in my grandparents days, you could simply walk into your local Sears and buy a car at sticker price. Dealerships having a monopoly on car sales needs to come to an end. Let the mfg sell direct. I have no intention of buying a Tesla any time soon but my god the purchase procedure is simply wonderful. You go to the the website, click on what you want, check out and you're done. No markups, hidden fees, addons that you didn't ask for etc. All car buying experiences should be like that.
It is a good method for many. But for alot of us that rely on getting good deals I much prefer negotiating with dealers rather that having to buy at sticker thru a website.
It makes my day when i drive down the street and see dealerships with a sign that says going out of business.
Hopefully those buildings get replaced by new and better dealers. The number of shady dealers has gone too far
We have to keep the lights on...................................in our ivory tower.
😂😂😂 such a joke.
Toyota wanted $1550 for replacing the Starter on a 5.7 tundra. $200 part online.
My other favorite is when you go into a service, and they bring out the air filter and cabin filter. Saying $150 to replace them.
Just so sad. I understand having to run a business and make a profit. But it's gone to far and I'm glad these dealers are getting it handed right back to them. Can not beat karma!
@@SamkoWorkShopagree, i don’t mind paying for labor, but I know they aren’t paying the mechanic anywhere near the rate they charge me.
@paulharsh78 yep dealers have gone too far. 190 an hour for labor....did the techs go to law school 😂😂. In reality techs are getting 20-30 bucks an hour and dealer ship screws everyone.
This is why I do my own works. Replaced the starter on the Tundra as well. Rough but doable spreading between Sat and Sun.
@@Baebon6259 I only bring my Wrx in for oil changes every 5000 miles under warranty, because dealing with Subaru corporate for an engine rebuild from doing my own oil changes is not worth it.
I had one Louisiana Honda dealership try to charge me for the vin window security makings on a 7 year old vehicle that were placed when brand new. I thought I had heard all the crazy sales tactics until this.
Yep they will do anything any way they can to squeeze every dollar out of you.
One owner, Enterprise Rental got me laughing. So you mean it had 200 "owners"? Tell them kick rocks and they can send it to auction.
Yeah what a joke. And this a..hole was going to let a 22 year old newly married, mother of a 8 month old, and her and her husband suruve on one small income so she can stay home around raise thier son. That jackass sales guy was trying to push them into that hunk of crap rip off. I wanted so bad to go up there and make a scene about it, but bella wouldn't let me😂. I was so mad I was gonna sream it from the middle of the show room!
Dealers = Stealers!
Agree. Most are that way. Still a few good ones but few and far between
I have always respected car dealers and their staff. Until the last 3 years that is… I have written Toyota telling them that I will never buy their product again if I need to buy from a dealer. They have committed countless crimes in the past few years. I personally ordered a 2022 highlander hybrid that I the salesmen who quit showed me the dealer received my vehicle after I waited 18 months for it and they sold it to another buyer willing to pay $10,000 over msrp. That’s a crime and I have no interest in doing business with organized crime. That includes Toyota who supports their dealers. After buying 13 Toyotas in the past 30 years I’m done with Toyota and will dance the day my local dealer goes bankrupt!
Yep the games they play are disgusting
This gentleman has completely given the public the exact method of how dealerships everyday destroy all relationship with current and new customer base. I should know my family has owned dealerships since the 1950's, every single word he has spoken is the absolute truth and to be totally frank the sales employees behind the scene are laughing their butts off at screwing you out of your money. That's why I could never stay working at our car businesses after college, it would hurt my soul to see people treated that way!
Greatly appreciate the insider info and honesty. Thank you
I have a friend of mine literally on their annual "retreat" for the dealer group in Mexico all expenses paid 😂
I agree I found my truck 1300 miles away in Idaho to get a good deal. The only thing made it possible is in my job I travel all the time so it only cost 5.60 for the airplane plus some air miles. The hotels were free using my hotel points so the only thing I was out was drive thru’s and gas. The only comparable truck near me was 3000 more.
Yep a one way ticket and sound great tunes on the radio makes for a great trip to pick up a new truck
@@GSPirosaki American built gm and ford have zero problems, right? the fact ford has more recalls than the rest put together is fake news right? The Mexican auto plants all use the same parts built elsewhere. If a car uses a ZF or Getrag transmission made in Germany doesn't care who attaches it to an engine. Unless you are so far gone you think those companies send broken trannys to Mexico, Hungary, and other lower wage countries.
@@GSPirosaki No, I bought a Nissan Frontier V-6 no turbos for me Thank-you!!!!
Should be a law stopping them dealers from ripping off the public . Period .
Sure would be nice if there was. But the auto lobby group is one of the biggest. It's amazing the power they have over government
It's pretty much our government telling dealers it's ok to be legalized criminals and ok to take advantage of everyone. It's so slimmy of a business, and everyone knows it, but no one will change it because it's so corrupt. There is a fair profit, and then there is price gouging and taking advantage of people.
There are some new rules starting in July. Not sure how extensive they are though
purchased my 1794 trd off road in feb paid 4k below msrp i wrote the ck right then. . told them i’ll go somewhere else if they don’t drop it below . i’ll call the entire state until i find a dealer that will
Daytona Toyota is the best Toyota dealer in Florida
Awesome truck and well done getting the deal!
Thanks for posting your experience with Daytona Toyota.
I worked in new car sales and service. The parts markup price goes in the parts manager and parts counter sales persons' weekly check.
Some dealership parts counters mark-up 10 to 15%, others mark-up 50 to 100%.
Nitrogen in your tires - not needed.
Added paint protection - a watered down synthetic spray detailer.
Leather and cloth seat protection - a thin coat of wipe-on or spray-on protectant.
Yep and they are all huge money makers for dealerships. And if they want to sell them as options fine. But making them mandatory is horrible. Appreciate the detailed insider info. Thank you.
I screwed the dealers.
Back in the day, buying my 350z, I went to the furthest Nissan dealer that I wasn’t planning on buying my car from and said “hey, my dad is overseas, he’s buying me this car, give me a printout with the lowest possible number you can get, if it’s low enough, I’ll show my dad and he’ll buy it for me”.
So he did.
Then I took that printout with me to four other Nissan dealerships and asked them to beat it.
Every time they beat it I moved onto the next dealer and asked him to beat that.
They wanted to F me so bad, they didn’t realize they were just F’ing each other.
So, I won and left them nothing. The exact same way they planned on leaving me.
There's always a bigger fish.
Well done and congratulations on a great deal. That's negotiating and getting the best deal.
Never have your car serviced at a dealership, unless it’s a manufacturer recall.
Ive heard people say that. So far I have been fortunate that any services Ive had done at dealers were done very well. But its always been warranty work. I wont own a new truck today without an extended warranty. I just figure that waranty cost as part of buying the truck. Too much tech and too expensive to repari them these days.
This was extremely helpful. Almost like a mini couse, get the basics of car shopping. Priceless.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent video. Says what we all know think and feel. Screw dealerships. I'm done with them.
Sure is sad how dealers have become so shady.
I hear ya. Just asking for the out the door price can be a 1-2 hour ordeal. There goes you're whole day of shopping for cars. They really are a waste of time.
They definitely don't make it easy anymore.
Seems that most businesses including auto dealers, will find ways to maximize profits. Hospitals, health care providers, insurers, home service companies, look at grocery prices, shrinkflation, etc. There are no exceptions. Maybe not as conspicuous but at a different level.. we all pay too much.
Very true.
Enlightening. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Tell us how you really feel. Don't hold back. 😀
Damn shady dealers
Doc fee in Illinois is capped at like $350 but sales tax can be a killer depending on where you live
That's a great thing on the doc fees. Some of them now here in the south especially Florida are 1500
It’s interesting how things ebb and flow. I got the best “deal” from your local Jeep dealer down there. Ricky was great to work with. I just happened to find one elsewhere that was $6000 less on a different package that fit the needs I had and unfortunately didn’t say Mojave on the hood.
Yep and I have never been able to get 2 good deals at the same dealer. Meaning I would get a great deal on my ram at one dealer. Called them when I bought my renegade and they were way high. Ended up buying it from another jeep dealer 6 hours away for 8k less.
Landers McLarty Subaru in Huntsville just quoted me $1000 to change the trans fluid in my 2021 Forester. Yeah, $1000. I giggled and hung up.
Yep service prices are insane now
This car situation its crazy.
I bought 22 Mavericks because I needed it, and they charged me 7500$, now i have a lemon Maverick and I have my all money back.
Man so sorry you had to go thru that! But sounds like it worked out if you got all your money back. But still a bummer and should not of happened to you in the first place.
Just thinking of how my grandpa was told by a car dealer the most they’d ever made off a sale from him was $95. This came after he spent 4 hours low balling them until they caved
Love it! Sounds like your grandpa was a great negotiator!
Great video!
In all the years, I’ve only been able to find one decent dealer… everyone else… crooks! And the decent dealer, is in a small town/middle of nowhere.
And yes, low ball trade offers are so painful to deal with! The obnoxious tactic that a lot of dealers use…. They ask if you have a payoff on your trade in…
Why do they ask, so that can offer you that amount and maybe a smidge more. Even though the actual value is much higher!
I went back and forth with a salesman one time and would not tell him my payoff amount. It didn’t matter. I wanted to know what the amount they would offer me for my trade in was, regardless of my payoff amount. Whether my payoff was $0 or $20,000… it doesn’t dictate the trade in value!
But they want to make the most profit off my trade in that they can!
You are 100% correct. The more info they give them to more they know what they can take you for. But playing dumb in the beginning can help you. Everytime they ask what I own on a trade I always lie and say it's way higher. Then when the deal is done and agreed they call for a payoff and tell me I only owe this much! I simply smile and say great! Thats a bonus for me.😂
@@SamkoWorkShop hahaha! That’s awesome! I’m gonna do the same next time!! I’ve certainly gotten screwed a couple of times before on my trade value…but not again… and next time I’ll try the lying technique!
@KevinEdge81 yep every question a sales guy asks is to benefit thier profits they can extract from you. They do many hours of training to learn this.
I had to replace the power actuated struts for rear hatch on my daughter’s RAV4. Toyota dealershit wanted $3,000 CAD 😂. I laughed and said no thx. Found identical aftermarket parts on Amazon and installed myself for $400 CAD. Unreal.
Thays the crazy stuff that drives me nuts.
Amen brother.
Glad you enjoyed it
Is there anything I need to be aware of before I start ordering truck I wanted from Toyota factory not from another dealership?
Toyota is one of the few manufacturers that doesn't allow orders, if a dealer told you that you can order a car configured the way you want, they lied. They're hoping they get it, or something close to sell you.
@@rwdplz1 no this is dealership I can order cuz they have been getting a lot of ordered from customers with orange sticker on the front windshield says it not for sale which mean it belongs to customers.
You are 100% spot on.
You can not order from toyota. You have to by what toyota allocates to the dealership. Toyota tells the dealer what's coming each month l. What reim color and option toyota chooses to send. No other options other than to buy what toyota tells the dealer they are getting. Like mentioned above any dealer telling you different is lying. Those vehicles with stickers were "bought in allocation " meaning they called the dealer and asked what models trims etc they have coming on the next couple months. They come one and put a deposit on it so that when it arrives it thiers.
Rental cars are the best cars but at the same time they aren’t worth buying as a consumer. You gotta remember that nothing revs harder or has a higher ground clearance than a rental car! Nothing!
😂😂😂
I walked out $53k for a $43k Tacoma. I’m already hearing rumors on failing turbos from the shop guys so no thx I’m passing. I bought a 24 Corolla hybird instead for $26k that’s a drastic change but fuck that.
Yep toyota and the dealers are causing customers to bail left and right
I'll 2nd this vid!! and I did pay a 1k over MSRP on my 22 taco but it was the only one in 5 states around me for the options I wanted.
If you bought that 22 during 21 or 22 mark ups were the norm. Greedy dealers taking advantage of people were everywhere. I had to fight tooth and nail to get my 2022 in 21 for just under msrp and when I say just under I mean a couple hundred bucks. It was disgusting back then. now the tides have turned.

When stereo stores went out of business, the scammers had to work somewhere... cue the auto dealers. If we ever get direct to consumer, all the scammers will have to switch to insurance lol. Everything but tax, title and plates are a cost of business that dealers push on you as pure profit (along with paint coatings, pinstripes, etc). I'd never pay them, last two that tried had to take it out of the "sales price" or I walked. Delivery fee is a scam too - it should be required by law to include delivery fee in the listed MSRP as its a deceptive marketing practice. Love cars, but hate the car business. This is why (along with depreciation) that I almost always buy used.
Agree 100% and don't forget we already paid travel fees in the form of destination charges, witch are also crazy stupid expensive. I looked into it. They charge 1500 destination charge and I could have a vehicle shipped from the manufacturer plant to my house for 800. Thats one of the biggest scams out there straight from the manufacturer
In Florida they still have the market adjustment
Yep many places do but people are not paying them anymore. I just helped my dad buy a new cadillac cx5 and the dealer had 5k mark up on it and many extra mandatory fees and huge doc fees. I was able to negotiate all that stuff out and even get it a bit below msrp. Never pay mark ups today. If you already did, it's OK and how the world works now. Many people fall for this scam. But the tides are turning and it's not that way any more.
If I live in Florida how the hell do I get a lesser doc fee?
Buy out of state. Florida has alot of shady dealers
I used to own tire shops, and we actually filled tires with nitrogen. The cost was about $1/tire. This was about a decade ago.
Yep. But the tires on a new vehicle come filled with nitrogen already from the factory. Thenbthe dealer charges us saying they did nitrogen fills.😂
@@SamkoWorkShop My point is that the marginal cost to the dealership is a few bucks. All dealerships will take off this fee (as well as many others).
@outsmiter4894 I 100% knew what you meant. Didn't mean to sound like I was dismissing your point. And i apologize if it sounded thst way.I was just showing how deep the scam is for dealers to act like they did anything.
Yea, luckily when I bought my 2022 Tacoma trd pro, I made sure the dealer knew I wasn’t willing to pay more than the MSRP which I did but I’m sure a lot of buyers out there that have the new Tacoma, like most people that aren’t patient and have to be the first to have anything new, paid more than what the 4th gen Tacoma is worth but I know that’s a different matter/subject there! 😳
Yep knowing how to negotiate and when to walk away are vital in this stupid game
Agree dealers have brought this on themselves. Customers need to do their homework about their trades and the fair price of the car they are buying. If people stop paying markups they will go away. This is one benefit of Tesla's pricing model. Nothing takes the place of an informed consumer. You cannot make people do their homework and customers need to be willing to walk away.
Agree 100% on all points
Local Toyota dealer pissed me off enough to take my business elsewhere. We needed a car bad in 2022 and they had new Camries listed starting at 28k. When we got their the Market adjustment put it out of reach for us so we had to buy a used 2020 with 24k miles on it for 28k that was the best deal we could find at the time so we got it since we got a decent trade in off the Turd Ford we got rid of. I am not upside down right now like most people are thanks to the equity I had in the Ford. I need a new truck soon and I am not buying from that dealer I will order directly from Toyota if I can't find a decent dealer.
Had that same experienced-talking to the sales man then the manager walked up and said..."you have to see it our way when buying a car" that was a huge mistake on his part- when I was done with him on that response had all the sales reps laughing at him..ended up going to a dealership 3 hours away and got all I wanted with great service!
Yep shop many dealers
This is very true
Sounds like it all worked out in the end for you. Side note for you though. You can not order a toyota vehicle. You have to buy what toyota tells the dealer they are getting and it only comes optioned by what toyota chooses. It's called buying thru allocation only. And that gow toyota works now. Sad times in the toyota world
@@SamkoWorkShop Toyota has said they are looking into making it to where you can order them after the dealers did all this market adjusting so we will see that soon enough. I heard they are looking at eventually dropping dealer support and opening up service centers instead. They will have demo vehicles and perform service and support. They are looking at how to get it going. I still think they will cave to dealers, but who knows anymore.
be careful of the service depts as well...they will up-sell you everything..as sales of vehicles drop, they will lean on the service depts to make up the shortfall.
That is a very good point.
So how does this work? If a dealer sells at MSRP do they not make income? If they do, would it not be best to push as many cars as possible at lower prices than having the cars sitting at the lot.
Dealers buy the cars well below MSRP, frequently below invoice, they're making plenty.
@@rwdplz1 pure greet man. I think consumers have a power to stop buying and put pressure on this dealers

Gettle Toyota in punta gorda FL is doing the same thing. I think they want 59k for a sr5 model lol. Stupid mark ups and the good ole nitrogen air scam
The nitrogen tire scam is funny. And so hard to believe dealers get away with stuff like this.
What’s sad about doc fees. My wife worked at a dmv. The dmv does all the work for the dealerships
Well that makes it sting a bit more. But appreciate the info.
Im thinking BUYING new 4gen Tacoma, but I DON'T KNOW IM NOT SURE ANYMORE
My opinion honestly. There are many great trucks out there. Including the new tacoma. But the toyota of the past and the reliability of the past is gone now. toyota is the same as all other brands now. My advise is to pick the truck you like the best that works best for your budget. If that truck is the new tacoma geat! If another truck works better thats good too. You really can not go wrong with any of these new trucks and they are all about equal in quality and reliability.
Can't agree more. Car dealerships have always been loaded to the gills with scumbags. But in the case with the recent situation, who do you blame, the dealerships or the idiot consumers that open their wallets and pay these ridiculous prices the dealerships are asking. You vote with your wallet. How many car purchasers are so desperate for a vehicle, that they absolutely must purchase at that point in time. If you're dumb enough to pay it, more power to the scumbag dealerships. I doubt very much these problems exist in the European market. Americans are slaves to marketing. Gotta have that new car whether they can afford it or not. First or second largest asset by value that most people own/rent, yet its exposed to the elements 365 and subject to every jackass in a parking lot that doesn't give a damn and opens his/her car door into your vehicle and damages it. People need to wake up and determine what's really important in life. Vote with your wallet. If car purchases slowed 12-18 months ago, we'd be seeing little to none of this nonsense today. As for battery power cars......another joke. Today's battery technology makes battery cars an unviable solution for most people. Tired of having big government try to shove this stuff down our throats. If it were a viable solution, rebates/incentives for those vehicles would not be a thing.
Great points. Yep as Americans we like to "keep up with the Jones"
I hope they all go out of business and we get direct to consumer.
Local dealer network in my town has started putting flashing brake light add-ons on every car for “your safety”. $1500 extra and they won’t take it off or remove fee. Nope!

All number can be skewed and changed to fit any articles narrative. Hell look at what government says all the time😂
what is your strategy for scoring a fair doc fee? If Cali can have the lowest fees in the country at around $85, is there any reason besides greed that the other 49 states can't match it?
Doc fees are tricky and often regional..meaning when one raises their doc fee the other dealers in the area do to. They copy each other to jointly screw customers. And doc fees vary by area and also by dealers. I have found regionally around me doc fees are 1k to 1200 but then also found some dealers at 599 doc fees.

Kbb and nada numbers don't matter as much as the dealer. And if the dealer already has you on the hook with a vehicle you plan to purchase they often lowball you knowing you won't risk loosing the deal. I promise you this. 8 out of 10 times if you turn and walk away from the deal they will stop you. Meaning they say we will give you 32k for your trade in as part of a purchase, and you turn the whole deal down because they wouldn't give you 34.

I have a BMW I took in for final included oil change last January in Salem Oregon. Car is parked in garage. Zero drops of anything on garage floor. Car had 6700 miles. While I am waiting dealer comes to me and says there is a leak in the cooling system(under warranty). The part has to come from Germany. I drive it home and when I get there the low coolant light comes on (20 mile drive). If it was already leaking why zero drops of anything in my garage. 5 weeks later I call and dealer says ya it been ready, and wont say why they didn't freakin call me. They didn't give me any loaner. So 2k miles later it starts to leak in same exact spot. I take it to my local mom and pop shop and they say some manifold has to be removed, so 900 bucks for a 50 dollar part. I will bet all I own that they billed BMW the entire amount and rigged it to work without removing the manifold. The mom and pop said the gasket appeared to be original.

only place is Ford because you can order your car and they have to honor the price of the build, the rest one to rip you off with 2 to 8k add ons
I heard it's brutal hard market in cali
@@SamkoWorkShop 5.59 a gallon of gas. A Tacoma 2024 55k
10 bucks for a Jamba juice. And 9.5 to 10.25%in transfer taxes. Comifornia for you.
@Mg_L.A. ouch. The older I get the less I like society and people in general. I now seek out places with less of both😂
@SamkoWorkShop I feel the same.
Looking for a different state to move to. But no snow for my old bones
@@Mg_L.A.Need to learn what communism is.
Communism doesn't allow freedom of speech, freedom to learn, read and educate, freedom of choice, freedom of any and all food consumption or freedom to travel anywhere at any time.
Not everyone has 70-80 grand laying around, not surprised, it's simple overreach.
I know I sure dont😂
I’m keeping my car as long as it will possibly last so that I don’t have to deal with stealers….I mean dealers
Smart move
People still buy so dealers will steal fly😢
Very true. But my job is to gelo and inform everyday people. And the more of us that help educate the general public the harder it becomes for dealers to take advantage of them
1 owner n sheeit
I was so pissed. I was gonna go up there and make a huge scene but bella wouldn't let me. Trying to take advantage of a young couple like that, 22 years old married with a 8 month old on a single income so she can stay home and raiser their son. Jackass sales guy!
Hope they go out of business imo 🤷♂️
I do tok. Time for a reset and fresh new start to this whole dealer network
COMMISSION, commission sales would make st.peter the worlds biggest liar. i seen it hundreds of times before.ABOLISH commission sales & honesty will somewhat return.
That would be a good start. And a huge difference. People don't realize commission is not just the sales guy. It's the f and I guy, thw floor manager, general manager etc. All get commissions
'some dealers are good'
I've yet to see these mythical dealers?
I find them anytime I buy or help someone buy a vehicle. But man, I sure do have to work hard to find them
Makes me sad you really can't just be a dude with a truck anymore. What I mean to say is you basically have to attach a truck to a commercial Enterprise at this point unless you make 200k a year.
Yep prices are stupid, interest rates are stupid and many dealers suck. It's miserable and too damn expensive
Just do not buy anything.
Right now that is a good option
Dealers who comment on here and claim my dealer doesn’t screw people, i don’t believe you
