I'm in the middle of converting my 2014 CRV. I built a platform bed, but it was the full length of the back, so I'm cutting it in half and will be turning the other side into my "kitchen" and "living room" - love how well organized you are. Thanks for the video. New Sub!
Thanks for making this I'm thinking of converting to a camper myself! We have the same car, and you posted this on my birthday, so that seems like a good sign.
@flipper 140 What many people do in SUV builds is to make the end of the bed with a hinged portion so they can lean the front seat forward for extra length. If you do that it will fit fine. My bed is 5 ft 10 with the front seat upright.
Nice set-up. Thanks for sharing! With your cook kit, if you get a thin can cozy (like the ones the give away) you can put it on the bottom of the Stanley and slide the Ozark cup over. It holds on thight enough to not need anything else, it makes it not rattle, and it keeps any soot that may get on the Stanley bottomfrom ending up in the Ozark cup.
I got a low top, standard length E150 figuring everything else was too big. Turned it into a camper with solar and everything, but it still feels too big. Most of my time outdoors is spent, well, outdoors. I love what you've done. Really considering a CR-V with a lift; just big enough for me and my things, and could get me deeper into the backwoods.
And.... I see you have a hitch.. how much weight can you tow with it? I want to tow a zero turn with mine, even though it's only a 42 inch cut, thinking it might be too much for the CRV especially because it is a 2004, kinda old
Would it be possible to link your cooler and solar equipment to your channel? I would like to investigate getting them for my CRV and like how you have a place for everything so handy. I heard you say your battery system was in an ammo box, but what is the system name, it all seems so perfect. Thank you!
I did remove the seats. Its four bolts per seat. The left side seat can be left in, but I took It out for some extra room because I never really used it.
Amazing conversion. I have exact same SUV n planning to do similar conversion. May I ask what is the thickness of the plywood u used for the bed platform? 1/2 or 3/4"?
It's called Reflectix. It's like a shiny bubble wrap that comes in a roll. I got it at home depot in the insulation section. You can also find it online. I glued black fabric to one side of my covers.
Yes, I do have a video about it. It's not exactly a tutorial, but it shows all the workings. If I were to build it again I would use a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery instead of AGM. They are more expensive but are lighter and can be discharged more. Here is the Video: ruclips.net/video/7GQD6ZUItI0/видео.html
I did set it off once by opening the back door while the alarm was armed. The trick is to use the key fob to unlock the doors before opening it. I would hang the keys on the hook over the rear door while I was sleeping so I wouldn't lose them.
I have 2 solar panels. One that stays on the roof and another one that folds up. I use it to put out into the sun if I want to park in the shade or to charge more quickly.
It is called the "H20 Oasis Slimline 1.25 gallon water dispenser". They stopped carrying them at Walmart, but I was able to find one at Big Lots for $5. There is also a fatter 2.5 gallon version.

i know you said in a comment here the solar panel was attached to the roof with velcro? or can you explain exactly how its installed on the roof? any problems with wind picking it up at hwy speeds?
I used to use this PWM one for charging from solar: www.amazon.com/dp/B07R8TRJ8C?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-ypp-rep_ypp_rep_k1_1_8&crid=2TQ2QD2Q70JPQ&sprefix=pwm+char But then I changed to a MPPT controller which is much more efficient: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P3FHQFL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 If you want to charge from the car's alternator while driving you will need an isolator solenoid: www.amazon.com/Stinger-SGP38-80-AMP-Battery-Isolator/dp/B001HC6UJ0/ref=psdc_15719961_t1_B001EAWS6O
Dimensions are 31 inches wide by 70 inches long of 1/2" plywood. There is a hinged portion behind the passenger seat. You also have to cut the board to fit around the wheel well. I had legs that are 10 inches tall made from 2x4s, 1x2s around the bottom edge of the board to add stiffness.
I bought it on amazon. Sellers change all the time, but the flexible ones are all pretty similar. I just ran the cables through the passenger side door and taped them down. I used velcro to attach it to the roof.
Great setup! How long is that bed? I am deciding between a used Honda CR-V (cheaper) and an Odyssey Van for just weekend trips. I am 5'10 and was thinking of just throwing an air mattress in the back after folding the seats flat.
I currently have the same exact CRV as you, even the color haha.. question.. do you notice yours gets bad MPG for being a 4 cylinder? And do you have a service light usually always on?
I don't have the service light issue. Is it the check engine light or the "Maintenance Required" light? The check engine light needs to be scanned with an OBDII scanner to see what is wrong with your car. It means something isn't working right and could be the cause of bad gas mileage. The "Maintinence Required" light is just a reminder to get an oil change. You can reset it yourself by holding the odometer button and turn the ignition to position 2 and keep holding the button until the light turns off.
The solar pannel is held on with long strips of velcro. Later on I replaced this one with a hard solar pannel that fit between the crossbars and attached it with brackets. The wires just go in the rear passenger side door taped down where they go through.
Unfortunately I can't make a video about that because I don't have that car anymore. But I'll try to describe it for you. removing the back seats gives a lot more room and they come out pretty easily with 4 bolts each. The bed frame is 1/2 inch plywood with 9 inch 2x4s for legs and 1x2 boards along the edges to give some rigidity. If I remember correctly the bed frame was 31 inches wide. I cut the wheel well shape out of cardboard and transferred that shape to the plywood. There is a hinged section on the front to be able to push the front seat back, but my girlfriend at the time was short so I just left it pushed forward most of the time. There was also a hinge on the corner leg that rests on the smugglers hold so you could fold it up to access that area.
Great setup! I didn't hear where you got your window covers from? Was it a universal window cover? I have the same model CRV but I heard some window covers are too small. Wondering if you can let me know where you get your cover from?
The solar panel is mounted to the roof so it stays on there all the time. I have a second folding solar panel for extra power while stationary. I use the stove's box as a backsplash to keep the bed clean.
The roof solar panel is a flexible 100 watt panel available from several different brands on eBay or Amazon. The butane stove is also available on Ebay, Amazon, Walmart, and many other places. The brands that make them change all the time so it's best to just search based on the features you want.
Nice! I've always loved the thought of a lifted CRV! I thought about doing that but I was worried about if the transmission could handle the bigger tires.
Very nice video! I have pretty much the same crv (2005) and have been planning convert it to a camper. Do the back seats come off without tools? Looks like you have just a little more space on the automatic, mine is manual and has stick shift located in where you hold your dslr :D
This is perfect. I would love some kind of a price breakdown on all this. I have a Honda CRV and SSI payments for $1300 per month. I'm assuming I don't need all this initially, just eventually. Starting out, if I were to hide out at Walmart or an indoor garage, how much money do I need for startup? I subscribed and liked.
Thanks! I really couldn't put an accurate price since prices for things have changed so much since I built it. I would start by just building a bed and go from there. A sheet of plywood, a 2x4 and a jigsaw and a drill. From there make it based on how you want to use it and put it together a piece at a time.
@@AnyAdventure I appreciate the response. I have till August to rig it up. My son wants to move me into an apartment that costs $430 a month, so I've got to try to figure out the financial difference between $430 in rent with no utilities necessary and being on the road. Obviously, the road sounds better, but I need to rig it up and try to live in it before August to see if I'm cut out for the life.
I like your setup but don't know about the Superstition mountains and " beautiful"... ;) I left the desert at a young age and worked hard so I would never have to go back.
I built it using 1/2" plywood framed with 1x2's and 2x4's for legs. The tricky part is to get it to fit the contours of the inside of the car. Just use cardboard to make a template. Cut a little, check the fit, make corrections, repeat until it fits.
Did you remove your seats or just fold them down? I've been camping in a Versa Note for several years, now thinking of getting a CR-V, but have no experience with larger vehicles. Can a conversion be done without removing seats? Thanks for the video.
I removed the seats, it's not hard. This setup could be done with the seats folded down, but the bed would have to be several inches higher. Originally I left in the driver side seat but I wanted the extra space, so I took it out also. If you had a car where the seats fold flat that would be ideal. I'm not sure how the seats fold in newer CRVs.
@@AnyAdventure Seat does not fold in 2013.☹ You are right. It's no a big deal to remove seats though some people think they need a mechanic to do so, lol
You can't find a 1990 Civic hatchback that doesn't run for $500. Your best bet at getting an affordable CRV is finding a salvaged title. I already had a red 99 CRV but it was FWD only. I found a red 99 real time 4WD with a salvaged title and 227k mileage. This was September 2019 and they wanted $1800. I got them down to $1600 but it didn't have a spare tire. Not expensive. Plastic front bumper was rigged and still is but also not expensive. New tires, front brakes and shifts clean. Started to overheat while idling at a stop in summer of 2020 but once again fixing that was also cheap. The chances of you getting a solid CRV like this are very slim though. The gas mileage, space, reliability and even using them for builds like this are why 1st and 2nd gen CRV's are still so expensive. I just got very lucky. In 2023 even for a solid 1st gen prepare to spend about $5,000.

That's a good idea. I do use it occasionally though, so It's a compromise I've made.
yeah, I have the same car. really nice
Thanks! It's a good car

Did u build your generator inverter?
Yes. I have another video about it.
молодец. отлично всё сделал
сколько это все стоило ему примерно
Nice battery case!
Thanks!
Where did you get that power station?
I built the power station myself. There are many available Comercially. I would suggest one that uses LiFePo4 batteries.
@@AnyAdventure thank you!
Great video! This one and others, thanks for sharing :)
Where did you get the bed board?
I really want an older crv to build for camping light overlanding. I swear these older crv are expensive as heck I wish I could find one for $500
You can't find a 1990 Civic hatchback that doesn't run for $500.
You may not know about the Makita 18v cooler
It's, very cool! (Pun intended) but $800 is a lot. This one cost $200.
how tall are you, if you dont mind me asking
I'm 5ft 9in
