This could be a game that's a good app; since flipping electronically will resolve the inaccuracies. Also, you'll get to see counter-attack values of the discs- a pop up display could come up. Set up would also be easier with pre-made scenarios being available. There are some games that shouldn't be apps; this one definitely should, since your movement is dependent on disc size; a birds eye view is a better option.
Great show! I have this game myself and enjoy it immensely and it does get fiddly when multiple pins pile up. There are great resources for this game on BGG to help facilitate play and keep things going.
I really love these reviews. So comprehensive and really give me a flavor of each game so I can determine whether I'd like it or not. Any chance you'll be reviewing Talisman soon?
Thanks for another great review. I think I'll get it after watching this. Need to see if I can score reference cards online - definitely seems weird to have to fiddle with the discs for that key info. Although potentially - the lack of stat visibility could be a feature rather than a bug, showcasing the chaos and uncertainty of battle :)
I like this game, I played it with my gaming group once and thought it was good but I got blown away, takes me a while to get the hang of strategy war games
When the manual specifically says to play on cloth or other non-slip surfaces, I don't really think the disks slipping on hard surfaces is a valid criticism. Both you and SU&SD made this criticism and it really seems petty. I mean how many people don't have carpet or a single blanket in their house? Would you criticise Crokinole for relying on a smooth surface? I realise the board is provided in that game, but it's a similarly ridiculous complaint. The blocking of disks makes more sense, but it's also definitely a nitpick. There are multiple copies of the majority of the disks, so you can just look at another one most of the time, and even in a big scrum you can usually lift or rotate disks to find the information you need without any practical disruption. If it really kills the game for you, there are several reference sheets you can print out in the files section on BGG. I do completely agree with Joanna's criticism: I think there are only 3 different secret objectives, and even the expansions don't mix it up. The one that gives you points for getting to the other side of the board is nice, but the other two are just "kill units" or "kill heroes". The special objectives are much better for replayability -- each expansion has one, and you can play the one in the base box if you're willing to buy a second set or just proxy the Watchtower terrain piece out of cardboard like I did.
Great review, as always! As an avid Warhammer:Diskwars player I agree with pretty much all the criticism you made, though I believe the only big issue with the game is the playing surface: playing on felt or a heavy tablecloth is strongly advised. As for the units reference, with some experience they come easy to memorize, but I agree that for beginners and casual players it's not that simple. If anyone is interested, as Scott Godine mentioned below, Reference Sheets are available on boardgamegeek (www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/99404/warhammerdiskwars-army-reference-sheets) and on The Sniper Troll blog (snipertroll.wordpress.com).
I enjoy your reviews.. Wish there were more game girls like you in the world/would love to date one.. I'm very happy to see a diversity the genders who review these games as well. You ladies really seem to understand the game and get into the aspect of them. I really hope its not scripted, though I'm not completely convinced its not sorry, but if not its nice to see women indulge in their inner nerd, which I think a lot do have one, just wont show it... Keep it up Ladies :)
The videos are scripted - that's the only way we can get the videos shot in 7 minutes in the current format. However, Kaja is the one who writes the script and we both play the game.
I'm not worried about the review being scripted. But I'me going to watch reviews I want it to be by people who actually play these types of games on their own time, and not just have someone through girls in the mix to get people to watch their show. This is not an attack on you guys by any means so dont take my comment the wrong way haha. I've been looking for new games to play with my friends and this site has been very useful in finding those :) thanks.
I think it is clear that you ladies are not very tabular with the original ip from games workshop because you never mention it in your review. Disk wars looks like a major simplification of the original miniatures war game
I know it's crazy off topic and I am not into objectifying women at all but god damn you guys get hotter every eposide. Awesome show as always. I would argue that you and Watch-It-Played are the two best channels in terms of explaining the rules.

Thanks for this, cleared up a few questions I had about Diskwars.

This music is much better! I can now make it through the whole episode without feeling like I'm going to jump out of my skin. Great job!

Great review. When I previewed this game it felt like work rather than play. Instant pass.
