  • Today I am finally going to do a review on this set of Marabu Graphix Aqua Inks that I have had since Christmas! This is the starter set of six with brush, and of course now it seems to be more difficult to find, but the single ink bottles are still around and are readily available.
    The Art Shop (Melbourne) has singles (maybe the set in store?): theartshop.com...
    Jerry's Artarama in the USA has the set: www.jerrysarta...

    Oh so cute! I love how bright and vibrant the jellyfish turned out. It makes me want to work on some marine life! Ah I sometimes have trouble with warmer black paint because it doesn’t always match the other pigments😂 love the lessons on pigments I always get from your videos too🤣

      Purely educated guesses though so I may well be wrong, ha! Yes warm blacks can be difficult but this one was dark enough to be fine 😊

    That painting looked like you had so much fun doing it! Well, better you than me; I already spend so much on materials. But I do get to see you have the fun, and I get to enjoy!
    I received your lovely card, with all the special inclusions. Thank YOU so much, it was very thoughtful of you. Could you help with any suggestions on how to safety send 1 1/2 pan of watercolor through the mail to you, so that it won't rip an envelope, or get crushed by a letter stamp cancellation?
    I know it sounds really dumb, but I can't think of anything light AND crush-proof. Also, I'm feeling lazy about going to the post office!
    Thanks again, Becky!

      Oh yay, I am so glad it got there, I was wondering if it made it, haha! That's a very good question...I have no idea. Maybe one of those envelopes with bubble wrap on the inside? But it sounds like a lot of trouble, so please don't feel that you need to send it. International postage costs so much as well! 😱

    I love your demonstrations and this is an intriguing medium. At one point, though, I was distracted by the ETCHR paper because the texture looks amazing!

      Thank you! The Etchr Sketchbook paper is pretty textured and holds watercolours really well. Also a lot of layers.

    What a pretty painting! So vibrant!
    If you compare Schmincke's Aqua Drop to these ones what are the differences? Maybe something for a new video, lol?

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  3 года назад +1

      I'll have to do a comparison video for sure. From memory they are very similar to each other and the colours are closely matching. Would be funny if they were all produced in the same place, lol!

      @Bonnie10au 3 года назад

      @@BeckyTregear I have the Schmincke ones and they are very bright too. And staining. I am pretty sure that Schmincke produces their own paints in their factory but who knows, maybe they make the Graphix too, haha.

    Do you think granulation medium would work on these?

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  3 года назад +1

      That's a good question! I have never used granulation medium before so I honestly couldn't say. I mean I GUESS it would work, being that these function like watercolours? But maybe I will look out for some medium the next time I am in an art shop, and we can find that out. Nice idea for a future video, haha! 😁

    Would you use these with watercolor or separate?

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  3 года назад

      I am sure these would be fine to use with other watercolours because they are essentially the same, just in liquid rather than a thicker binder. Personally I tend to keep them separate but if I needed more colours, I'd grab a couple of watercolours to go with them. 😁

      I can't remember...did I say something about pigment numbers? I think I did...lol...and I still haven't gotten any more info on them.

      @@BeckyTregear My wish that they were all single pigment colors. And some of the pigments they chose are suspect for lightfastness in transparent watercolors (PO34, PY74, PR112). But as with all art supplies, it comes down to informed choices. In palette order the CIN are:
      Lemon - PY74 (unrated by ASTM)
      Sunshine Yellow: PY83
      Orange: PO34
      Vermillion: PR112 / PO34
      Carmine Red: PR146
      Magenta: PR122
      Dark Violet: PB15 / PV23
      Dark Ultramarine: PB15 / PV24 (typo??) (P.S. Nothing Ultramarine about this)
      Cyan: PB15:3
      Petrol: PB15:3 / PG7
      Mint: PG7 / PY83
      Reseda: PY74 / PG8
      Dark Brown: PY83 / PR146 / PB17
      Black: PB17

    Is this ink non-toxic?

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 года назад +1

      I am not sure as I can't find it specifically written anywhere. I would treat it as any other professional level art supply aimed for adults, and use some caution. Wash hands after using it, not painting it on skin etc. I did find on Marabu US's website, if you click on Graphix Aqua Inks under the Products tab, there is a FAQ and it leads to a page which has all of the pigment numbers for each ink, which can be looked up on Google. Basically anything with cadmium or cobalt is more toxic than newer sythetic pigments such as quinacridones and phthalo. I would say these are looking like modern pigments so I imagine they're pretty ok but you can definitely deep dive into those specific pigments if you would like to know exactly what they are made of. I hope that helps point you in the right direction! 😄
