Hammer took on the role of my "Big Bruh" and protector while we were roommates in the NAVY. We made a bunch of demos in that barracks and he promised to never forget me once he made it in the music industry. He kept his promise. I wrote, composed, produced and performed music for his Bust-It! label, under Capitol Records. He's remained a good friend available during some of the most trying times of my life. You gotta problem with Hammer, you gotta problem with me.

@@TheMsmith77You do realize that you have a bias towards men right? And... that you only liked Hammer because he didn't call women h03s and bltches even if they were behaving that way? So... it's ok for him to diss brothas, even in foul ways... but when it comes to critiquing sistas for being wh0r3s and behaving like "White Supremacists" towards their own men then that's completely out of question? You probably even liked 2pac because he was unfortunately a slmp... and wrote the song "Keep your head up" even though he called black women bltches and h03s on several occasions. You sound like a willful hypocrite.

MC Hammer was most definitely a rap giant, genius and talent! No he didn’t promote killing, disrespecting women or selling dope. Most in Hip Hop danced or rapped. MC Hammer did both very well 👀. He could not only dance, but create and his own dances. His success was towering! Being the first rapper to sell Diamond (10 million physical albums 💿) in Hip Hop, naturally rappers became envious of how success and began to diss him. They criticized him as inauthentic and unrelatable. Common attack areas for positive rappers. Hammer was fine until he turned to listen to those comments.

Hip Hop, in its reflection, will definitely owe MC Hammer several apologies.

It wasn't just that. It was the depiction. Vanilla Ice went through the same, for the same reason.
The truth is, Hammer crossing over gave a platform for rap music that wasn't really there. It gave an excuse to just relax and dance - which you weren't getting from NWA or Too $hort. Plus you could play Hammer's stuff and not worry about Grandma cringing at the cuss words.
Basically, at that time, as far as mainstream male single rappers, it was basically Hammer, Heavy D, Will Smith, Bobby Brown and MAYBE R. Kelly. And Heavy and R. Kelly were in groups at the time.
That leaves Hammer, Bobby and Will Smith - all crossover artists. All ended up 100x more successful than the ones that stuck with gangster rap. And neither WIll nor Bobby's rap careers came close (obviously) to Hammer's.
That's what some of the others never got: for them it's "stay tru to the game", but success was all about crossing over. That's just the music business. TLC (example) couldn't keep talking about hats to the back.

I never understood why so many were coming at Hammer. He created his own lane, helped his people, gave us positive energy, and the dance moves he had us doing was some of the best exercises and healthy for us. JMJ (rip) was a disappointing hater, 3rd Bass knew they’d have NY backing and backing and imo, dissing him would make them feel they were blacker and truer to hip hop when Serch was even copying some of his dance moves. Hammer made history and none f them could truly touch him.

    • @hitekdialect
      @hitekdialect 9 месяцев назад +8

When he first came out, Hammer had a video mocking Run-DMC unprovoked, which is why you see a clip of JMJ returning fire. Further, Run-DMC had taken hip-hop to commercial heights previously unachieved. Coming at them was seen as a unforgivable act by MOST of hip-hop...and particularly by someone who wasn't that great on the mic. Still, Hammer's impact is undeniable and he hired A LOT of people. He carved his own lane- but he stepped on Run-DMC's toes in the process.

To keep the false narrative going so sisters could avoid accountability for choosing bums.
Good brothers were to be used and put in their place. But if they wouldn't comply they were killed. This was happening when I was young and definitely when I came of age.
This was widespread which is why now the brothers who like anime or aren't out there pretending gang banging and drug dealing is acceptable speak out that sisters don't like them and never have.
Get some of them talking and they'll say even there own mother consider them weak.
So it was pretty obvious why they foolishly thought guys like Hammer was soft.
Most of these dudes are playing a persona to get sisters to accept them.
As for me I never cared.

Obviously you wasn’t around back then because there were only a handful of gansta rappers during the time that Hammer started. Most of the rappers back then were either talking about how bad they were on the mic or their lyrics had a spiritual consciousness vibe to them. Back then, you were not a respected rapper if you didn’t have bars. Hammer was the first major rapper who didn’t have bars, which is where most of the backlash came from. He was loved by the girls/ladies and he wasn’t received well by guys. We thought he was corny. I went to his concerts not to see him, but because the females were going to be out in force to support him and because of the other artists he was on tour with him that I wanted see. His music was made to dance to at parties and clubs.
Now that I am older, I recognize that Hammer actually pioneered the genre of rap strictly for parties and the club. I respect that, but his bars were not up to par. I can only listen to him at a party/club.

Hammers feud with a lot of artist was over wether he was a sellout or not. But most of his money went to his dancers on purpose. He wanted to help dancers.

Hammer had a lot of dudes loyal to him. He took care of a lot of them in his hood after he became rich and gave them jobs. A lot of these dudes would have killed for him. That's a fact!

I met MC Hammer at a Mall in Florida. I worked for DJ Khaled ' s parents. DJ Khaled was about 10 years old. I took a picture with him but DJ Khaled 's mom can't find it. DJ K never thought he would be in the environment.

Coming from Redman, it’s both funny and believable.
But on another note, I’ve known several smiley faced, comedic, charismatic, monsters through the years. In fact, through gained wisdom, I’d say one should be wary of anyone unapologetically charismatic. Especially when they unwaveringly carry themselves in that way in an environment that doesn’t warrant that.

In my youth I was a dancer, during that time I met some amazing dancers who were great people that toured with MC Hammer, they went on to have very successful careers, they were literally strippers in a club and he saw their talent and gave them a break and according to these friends he was always respectful and made sure they were safe from creeps and well paid.

Growing up, Mc Hammer was one of my favorite rappers…he was my first concert and was AMAZING!! I was happy to be able to allow my children to listen to his lyrics with no violence, no disrespect and positivity. His dance moves are on a “ WHOLE NUVA LEVA! “ An absolute fantastic artist! Still a fan!

THAT'S BECAUSE HAMMER IS A GOD FEARING BROTHER AND KNOWS THAT WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY.... AND HE WAS RESPONSIBLE WITH HIS POWER. HE'S BRAVE AND NOBLE TO A FAULT SOMETIMES. YOU CAN'T SAVE EVERYONE. THE ONES WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE WITH THEIR POWER ARE THE ONES WHO ARE TO BE FEARED AND RESPECTED... FOR THEIR HUMILITY.
