Having worked with Alyssa on a project, I can confirm she is awesome! Her suggestions on my manuscript were on point and helped me grow as a writer. Thanks for sharing your background in more detail, Alyssa.
Well this is really a nice video...thanks for making this...I would recommend to make a video title " journey of a book" from the first submission email to the paperback print..explaining all steps and people involved.
Interesting journey. And your videos are just fine. They are informative and straight to the point. You show examples, giving us a visual representation which for me, is always helpful. While I may not have huge sales as a self published author, I still hope I get an agent with WIP novel (first draft completed). You have been already very helpful writing my letter. Regardless the rejections, I'm still thankful for what you have done.
Great video! That really is the dream for me right there, to become an editor at a place like Penguin Random House even Penguin itself or maybe even be a freelance editor or literary agent. The trouble for me is that I've been trying to find and reach out to people who actually work in the industry and you've provided some great insights. My question is how can I find and have conversations with editors and agents that can answer some specific questions? I'd even love to have a chat with you personally sometime if you ever read this comment!
You're a really nice and wonderful person to want to help so many people out there find their way in the publishing world :) Keep on being the proverbial light that shines through a mystery that remains shrouded in darkness! Goals and dreams are possible!
Hi sorry if this is a personal question but I’m curious what the salaries look like for freelance editors vs salary or publishing houses? I’m currently an English major with an internship at a publishing company next semester as an editor and I’m hoping it will help with future opportunities in publishing but haven’t found many consistencies with salaries or income in general.
Hi Alyssa, Love from India Ur video is surely very helpful in learning about the inside stories of publishing houses... Pls keep up the good work... Sm day i see myself following ur footprints ... Thanks n God bless
I wonder if you have any advice to give for someone who is making a switch in careers. I can probably manage a certificate course but I wonder if it's possible to land an internship while just in a certificate course? I'm sure you're right that an internship is a major factor in breaking into the industry and I'm hopeful this will be accessible as an older professional that isn't a full-time student. What do you know about that?
Being that she was able to leave her home in Texas to travel to school at NYU, which costs almost $55,000 a year for undergrad tuition and fees (that's not counting room and board), and then was able to study abroad, I have a feeling she is a person "with financial privilege."
hi! you mentioned something about working on your own projects... does that mean you have written and published novels/novellas? that's so interesting! and heck yeah, i bet working in an agency would make your process easier if you yourself are aiming to get published too! wow, that's cool. did it actually help you though, or did i just make that up? or did i make the whole thing up and you haven't written novels...
Do you have any insight about how someone might find a publishing house internship position who isn't currently an undergraduate? Are university connections the only way that students are funneled into publishing internship programs? I am asking from the perspective of someone who earned BA and MA degrees in English 15+ years ago. Thank you for sharing any advice.
Can you add videos on how to find your target audience. I’m so stuck on it. Author branding Tips for people who have dyslexia and how to help them write. I listened to a few today and wrote them down.
I suffer from slight dyslexia as well and my editor can tell I do. However, what I found worked for me, I think of the sentence as I would say it. Thinking of lines of movies and games and try to put it on paper. Then there is ProWritingAid who can spot many mistakes as well. Not a 100% reliable software but still helpful to find faults you would hardly encounter after plain reading.
@@queentali1994 I have tried Grammarly but wasn't happy with it. It focused more on spelling than the what I wanted to focus on. So prowritingaid was a clear winner for me. Interesting to hear your editor has dyslexia too. Good to see she keeps up the fight to do what she likes to do.
I haven’t look at prowritingaid maybe I should. I struggle with spelling, grammar, punctuation and math. So I saw grammarly good. If prowritingaid is better I’ll have a look
@@queentali1994 I know I like aid far more. While it's not a 100% reliable, its still very helpful to find faults you would usually miss when reading it over and over again. What I use is: Grammar Overused Structure Sentence and lastly Thesaurus All of them highlight words or sentences what is wrong or suggest a solution (which are not always correct like a comma placement). Or even sentences you have spelled badly or is incoherent. Takes time, but at least you know you made the best improvement as possible. I usually go by chapter.
I subscribed ❤️ I also want to be a good editor. I have received a few small projects via Facebook, but I would really appreciate it if you want to guide me. Is it necessary to get into a book publishing company before starting freelance work?

Excellent! Love the video ❤
I really want to go into this field the more i learn about it
How did you support yourself as an intern?
Did you do paid or unpaid internships? Publishing seems to be more and more for people with financial privilege.

How did you get the internship in London?
New subscriber😊😊
see I'm just worried about what I can do for work... internships don't pay 😢
