I think it's also an act of submission, my magpie would tease our pheasant by grabbing it's tail & swing around on it as pheasant tried to get to her. She was free to come and go, but she chose to stay.... she played fetch with the dog, a huge Alsatian... they were best buddies.... that crow was awesome. And also very funny. @@valvlog4665 No, I've only ever met a handful of people I'd characterise as unkind once I've understood their motivations (though I've heard of far more) but the overwhelming majority are kind at the core. If everyone who said that a given animal is better than humans was right then we'd all be murder hobos who kill just to see life drain away but we're not, nearly every example of a person doing an unkind thing is an example of a human thinking they're doing the right thing and thus are being motivated by the best of intentions. Only humans have the understanding required to be truly kind, intelligent, loyal, or sacrificing whereas animals are largely instinct driven. Magpies are very quirky birds. They can be very territorial but also very sweet and goofy too. An Aussie childhood wouldn't be complete without being swooped on your way to school.
Too right, mate! Fair dinkum on being swooped by a magpie, not just when walking to and from school, but just if you’re out going for a walk during magpie nesting season, and, by either pure coincidence or just sheer accident, walking too close to a tree where they’ve built their nest, then, all of a sudden, seemingly from out of nowhere, BAM! The buggers are swooping at ya, trying to peck your eyes out, squawking and screeching at ya, saying (in their own words), “Get outta here, ya galah!”
@@Kyra_of_Kerkyra Well, the magpies you’re most likely familiar with and thinking of are a different species to the one shown in this video. The bird found in Australia, and shown here, that has the common name of ‘magpie’ is not related to the other species of birds that are called ‘magpies’. Those magpies are members of the Corvid family, which means they are closely related to crows and ravens. They aren’t as aggressive as the Australian magpie, and they’re surprisingly intelligent, capable of recognising their own reflection!
I can't believe how personable magpies are. I'v seen several vids of these amazing birds and I have come to the conclusion that they are the perfect companion bird.
Man. I watched this movie a few months ago on Netflix. I cried buckets but was also really inspired. I'm on my own journey health wise (affecting my mobility,) and although it's nothing like as horrendous as what happened to this strong woman, the movie/story of what she and her family went through struck a cord with me. Penguin was certainly a gift from God. He showed at the perfect time and seeing this real life footage is a real blessing for me tbh. They are just the nicest strongest, sweetet family. Both Peng and the family were blessed with each other. A real life story of just how empathetic animals truly can be and the benefit they, even a wild bird, can be in the most surprising of ways. Lots of love to the Bloom family. ❤ And TY for sharing your story.. Also, the perfect reminder to buy the book. It's actually on my Amazon Wish List, but I must purchase it soon!

Animals are such special people. They always know how to heal. When my beloved dog died 3 years ago I was in a dark place. My cat helped me heal until he passed last April. I had two dogs that didn't work out but they helped me heal for the time I needed them. I now have two amazing kittens who'll be a year old in a month. My boy cat is exactly like my previous cat except for breed. He does carry my other cat's name. His sister is a lot like my passed on Chihuahua. Two different suits on but so much like my two previous pets. Whenever I start feeling sad over the loss of my previous cat and his dog sister my two kittens stick to me like glue. They always know how to comfort.

@@melusine826 yup :) I'm just impressed this family obviously managed to raise this one without serious imprinting! Not sure wildlife rescue is necessarily the right choice for someone who is looking at this video & feeling they need that in their life too though, their emotional state is probably not right for wildlife rescues, which can be emotionally very hard at times. Maybe fostering or rescuing of an abandoned pet animal might be better for them. Might not be too, they can choose :)
This is almost identical to my experience raising a magpie when I was a troubled teenager. She was the funniest pet I ever had and after a year she flew away...

We do have magpies in CZ but I have neither heard about swooping nor experienced it ever in my life...
@@Kyra_of_Kerkyra
Here in Australia, they commonly swoop people and animals that get close to their nesting tree.
That's not a little bird, it's a little angel sent from above, complete with wings. 😆 ❤
Such an heartwarming, inspiring story. Truly humbles you to be grateful for all the the little & beautiful things in life.
Watch the movie on Netflix
@@yadinavarro9810 Thanks. I would but I don't have Netflix. Oh well :-)
@@LCLW63 I think you can find it here in RUclips, maybe they have it

I can't believe how personable magpies are. I'v seen several vids of these amazing birds and I have come to the conclusion that they are the perfect companion bird.
What a heartwarming story in these times , thank you for posting, Salud de Gran Canaria
She was the walk in angel to your lives.. wishing you meet more of them.!!
Absolutely touching story. I fell in love with the birds when I visited Australia. Magpies, kookaburras, cockatoos, galahs... Magpies have my heart though. ❤️
You made penguin , A part of your life , you’re home , I took care of her and showed her love I’m with you always, penguin says I love you I’ll be with you always !💝

Very nice!
I notice many big n small animals all over the world now r coming closer to human's loves. I hope more human kind will learn to apreciates n respect n love all animals. Hope more ppls will stop eating meat too. As all animals hv great loves n feelings too. 🐾🐾🐾❤❤❤ This is such an unusual lovely bird indeed. 😙🐾💖💖
you know this bird is a meat eater right? eating meat is a natural part of life. Just choose ethical meat eating if you care for animals, far less animal deaths that way then result from trying to avoid eating them
@@mehere8038 Tq dear for yr feed back :) God first created animals first then human kind. God loves all His ctreations. Animals can talk just like we human too. God is Love ❤ No killing, No anger, No blood shed, No all the bad things happen at all. We r not meant to eat meat in the first place. But aftr Adam n Eve Sin. This whole world turned up side down with so much of Sinful abuse both in animals n human beings. Like killing unborn babies/ abortions which GOD HATE SO MUCH! I hv died n JESUS saved my life. @@faith5401 have fun with the current mouse plague in Australia! What exactly do you intend eating after the hundred billion of the mice are done?
Watched the film the other night, very heartwarming, moving and inspirational ❤

Hello Sonia
Such a warm and beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it with us. 🤗❤❤❤🐧
Penguin was a very special magpie. And she was a angel sent from Heaven. 💗💗
I could really need a Penguin in my life right now
😊 join a certified wildlife carer group and get trained, it's wonderful. Just don't take fledgings from the wild FLEDGLING BIRDS DO NOT ALWAYS NEED RESCUING
Baby birds come out of their nests and cannot fly well for a few days. They are attended to by their parents during this time. Please watch from a distance and if you do not see parents then they may need to be rescued. This is usually not necessary
Hello
@@melusine826 yup :) I'm just impressed this family obviously managed to raise this one without serious imprinting!
Not sure wildlife rescue is necessarily the right choice for someone who is looking at this video & feeling they need that in their life too though, their emotional state is probably not right for wildlife rescues, which can be emotionally very hard at times. Maybe fostering or rescuing of an abandoned pet animal might be better for them. Might not be too, they can choose :)
My heart warms for Australian magpies, i absolutely love them. Just seeing them brings me so much joy.
How lovely. 😭💜
Omg so this family was the inspiration behind the movie Penguin Bloom. So heartwarming! ❤️❤️
I love how she just lays on her back. It shows incredible trust 💗 Magpies are really interesting and cool birds.
What a blessing 🥰
This is inspiring and heartwarming, animals can change the lives and hearts of people in the world. And this magpie is one of them.
Boa muito bem parabens
This is almost identical to my experience raising a magpie when I was a troubled teenager. She was the funniest pet I ever had and after a year she flew away...
Animals come into our lives at specific times when we are going to need emotional support . They give us unconditional love and help us get through the difficult times. Sometimes they even take on the negative or sick energy into their own bodies to protect us💕😇 They are Heaven sent 🌈💓🐶 🐈 🦅
