    Seems like they're directly aiming at people considering an MT-09 or MT-10. I hope they bring these over to the US sometime soon and at the a similarly competitive price. The MT lineup is popular over here so these would definitely grab people's attention.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 2 месяца назад +1

      Eh. It's more in competition with the Z900 and GSX-S950/S1000 due to it being a inline-4. The MT-10 has been much more powerful overall than the CB1000 has been in the last decade.

    • @lightxgrenade
      @lightxgrenade 2 месяца назад +1

      @@exothermal.sprocket Fair point. But the MT-10 (which is also an inline 4) and the other bikes in that lineup are the premier Japanese naked bike platform. I don't think you make a bike with that many features at such an aggressive price point just to be the number 2 through 4 Japanese producer in market share for naked bikes.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 2 месяца назад

      @@lightxgrenade MT-10 may as well be a V4 in the sense of sound and firing intervals. It's very different than the even-firing i-4 offerings, even if the cylinder bank is the same orientation. I'd guess there's going to be at least 10-12 horsepower between the CB and the MT if you fully tuned both. We'll have to wait and see if Honda has done anything with the engine, or if it's a understressed mild version of a mid 2000's CBR1000RR.

      It is under cutting the Yam MT 09 by a significant margin. It looks better than the Yam and makes a whole lot more power. The SP looks incredible value. Well done Honda. Sales are well down and bike shops are going under.

  • @colindeans5972
    @colindeans5972 2 месяца назад +11

    I'll throw in a bit of reality here. The price of new bikes has increased over recent years to the extent now where £20k isn't unusual. PCP has made the unaffordable, affordable allowing manufacturers to keep putting up prices. Of late, some large, notable motorcycle dealerships have gone down the drain, presumably, in part due to a lack of sales. Greed has come home to roost and it seems that Honda have realised and are now producing a good bike at a fair price. Hopefully, their standards are maintained. On a cheery note, the black and gold SP looks great.

But this SP version makes me think i should consider this as my next bike. I am currently riding a 2019 Kawasaki GTR 1400 (Concours) its a big bike! I loved the sporty feel of the CB 1000R, overall a really good street bike.

I know the build quality and general features are on the budget side, but a 1000cc class bike that undercuts a upper class middleweight is just strange. Didn't expect it to undercut other Japanese 1000cc nakes in terms of weight as well. Good job Honda

      @@kaecy6I’d argue that the MT-09 still has its place with superior tech, torque rich CP3 engine and ultra-agile handling, and the MT-10 is still the better bike overall. The Z900 on the other hand, I don’t find the justification for that bike other than brand loyalty to be honest. The Hornet undercuts the price of the Kawa with more tech, a QUICK SHIFTER which the Z doesn’t have and can’t fit, slightly less weight, better componentry, and more power.

    Bought a brand new 750 Hornet, didn't have the money for the 1000r. I watched 6 hours of RUclips videos including yours and none mention the fact it was as snatchy as hell.
    Loads of rider complaining in FB Forums about it.
    I was sent a throttle reset by a former Honda R&D worker, completely smoothed out the bike. Love how light it is at 199kg, as I had a Honda VFR 1200f at 280kg.
    Only thing I'm not keen on is the exhaust sound.
    March 2026 this new 1000SP will be the bike I look at.
    Most of my bikes have been around 200kg so the little extra weight will be ok.

    • @DavidSmith-hn5gg
      @DavidSmith-hn5gg 2 месяца назад +1

      I would keep the 650R mate I bought a 750 Hornet brand new because it looked like a fantastic deal with all the kit. You could see evidence of cost cutting everywhere! Crappy welds, paint coming off the frame! It used to cut out and misfire when Honda checked it I was told there’s nothing wrong with it! The 1000 Hornet will probably be the same! The frame looks similar so probably has the same poor paint job and welds. I dealed it in on a 2023 CB650R and absolutely love it even without a tft up and down quick shifter. The 650 is a beautiful bike and you can clearly see the build quality is far superior. I use mine everyday and it’s the perfect commuter, don’t need a heavier more powerful bike.

    • @themechanicaladvantage
      @themechanicaladvantage 2 месяца назад

      @DavidSmith-hn5gg That's honestly too bad. I love my 650 to death because it's been bulletproof and honestly think it's one of the best looking bikes made for a very long time. I get compliments constantly on it. Can't do the 1390SDR because of the reliability, the Streetfighter V4S maintenance cost is ridiculous and lacks so many basic features, I don't mind the S1000R but the gearing is so long and with a weak bottom end just feels dull. If the hornets what you say then honestly I'll keep my CB (I put about 10,000 miles a year on it) as my commuter and think about a CBR1000RR as a second bike. Was your 750 a first year production bike? I've never pegged Honda for a bad build quality so I'm wondering if they needed a year to get the manufacturing dialed in.

    • @DavidSmith-hn5gg
      @DavidSmith-hn5gg 2 месяца назад

      @@themechanicaladvantage yes it’s was a brand new 2023 bike when they first came out, there’s been lots of people online complaining about the same issues I had. The hornet felt like it had loads more torque than the 650r but was snatchy as hell at lower speeds and drove me nuts in heavy traffic. I’m still very happy with my decision to swap it.

No doubt about it. 155 HP bike with rear Ohlins and Stylema calipers and a price tag of UNDER 10 grand is insane for the SP. The MT 10 is in reality a cut above with more sophisticated electronics etc and is aimed more at the S1000R BMW class. This Honda is not quite that ,but for the money it is unbeatable.
