Actually this is NOT A METRO. This is premetro - TRAM with partially independent routes from road and pedestrians motion.

They call themselves a metro (Métro Léger de Charleroi). I agree, premetro or tram is more accurate.

@@nicquelbay2696 This is PREMETRO, NOT "light metro". Light metro meet all technical standards for being metro in all routes of system, but is operated by trams/light rail. In Charleroi system NOT MEET technical standards on all lines. This is fast tram, partially separated from roads and pedestrians (premetro).

@@pieterwatson611 Premetro means "before a metro" . There has never been a plan to convert it to a real metro. So that is probably the completely wrong name. Light rail, light metro, tram, tram in tunnel, fast tram, whatever we can always discuss. But this has never been and will never be a "premetro" because this is not meant to be changed in to a metro.

@@yves-laurenthansart6077 Premetro mean TRAM, which partially meet technical standards of being metro on ALL NETWORK - especially tunnels in city center. So Charleroi has NOT a metro - this is premetro (TRAM). Premetro don't mean "before metro", because in practise is never refurbish any system to standard metro. Premetro mean still a TRAM.

@@pieterwatson611 Well I disagree. A premetro was invented as an infrastructure that will be used by trams and ready to be used by metro, just like in Brussels. Probably a rare case. Pre comes from Latin and does mean "before" as a prefix. So, call it like you want, but to me, Charleroi is not a PRE Metro, it's everything else (light metro being probably the best), it's also a tram when outside. Not PREmetro...
