- I finally bought my dream Leica and take it to the streets to shoot some POV Street photography in San Francisco. After a long couple years and recently selling off my Leica m2 I plunge back into the m system with the rangefinder I have secretly wanted. Film used in the video was Portra 800 which was very pleasing to the eye! Excited to take this camera around the world with me. Congrats! I bought my M6 in 1988. Mine's the original pre-TTL and I was my 5th Leica M after testing the waters with several Ms of previous vintages (2 M3s, an M2 and an M4)
I still have my M6. It has been around the world many times and has never failed.

My M6 Titanium meter hasn't stopped working, but I've ordered a KEKS 002 ... Hopefully I'll get my first roll shot. I'm not fussed about the meter as the M6 was a win in a prize draw anyway. I loved your other Leica prurchase from the thrift store .... A stellar find of a lifetime.

Congrats! I've been shooting with the M3 for three years now, and it's definitely something to shoot with your dream camera. The Leica M-P & M-A have tempted me a few times, but I still think the M3 is my ride or die for real for real.
I've had an M4-2 for over 40 years now and just picked up a M4-P as a second body for a retirement project.
It's nice to see a young photog enthused about his camera. Reminds me of myself at his age. Good luck and happy snapping.

I got an F3 in the late 80’s and used it until I got a D810. Great camera!

i wanted an M7 since i first saw one, I was never able to justify the price so I forgot about it. Two years ago I finally pulled the trigger, KEH had a super clean one with Box included. No regrets!. Kudos and enjoy your M6!.

Got my M6 3 weeks ago and am just waiting for the first developed role, super excited! I haven’t planned to buy it at this point but got a „cheap“ one in almost unused condition which was also built in my year of birth, so I couldn‘t say no.
I may have to get it serviced as it wasn‘t used that much but I will see when the role is back.
Can you notice any big differenses with the m6 compared to the m2 you had before or other order ms? Except for the obvious lightmeter part.
I had the opportunity to go to SF in January, fell in love with that city, it has such a good vibe. lovely location, lovely video! enjoy the new camera!

Congrats on the Leica M6. Enjoyed your walk on the Golden Gate and your images, reminded me of a friend in the 1960’s who had a brand new Bolex 16 mm, he took a walk on the bridge and dropped his new Bolex over the side. Still down there. So, hold tight.

Congrats! Mine is a silver also the classic. Waiting for a black MP to be available again. BTW, if you will, get the Rolleiflex 3.5F. It 's the best camera of all time on my book.
Story for you. My favourite store for Leica ( I’m in England) pretty much talked me out of an M6. It went like this:
“I feel the need for an M6”
“But you have an M2 and a 50mm summilux f1.4 and you are old enough to be able to use that Weston light meter we serviced for you or no light meter at all. “
Ok, just believe it, that’s the way we roll sometimes in England. So, I left the shop wondering what I was thinking. You had an M2 my most favoured RUclipsr! Just sayin!
Anyway, question for you or anyone out there. I’m off to Santiago, Chile, for a few weeks. Never done that South America thing. Do I just drop my film in my baggage and hope for the best? Or appeal to the several security sections I’ll be passing through by the time I get home, not to put my film through airport scanners?

I need to make it out to SF to work on my skateboarding project! Definitely agree about the Leica experience. I bought a Monochrom a few years ago and I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a camera like I enjoy this one. It gets me excited to make images every day.

Ahhh I can relate so good. Got mine last Saturday :'). My girlfriend already makes jokes since i am carrying it with me all the time walking around the apartment, watching tv, sitting on my desk while working, watching your videos... :D dude i wanted to ask how do you meter back-lit scenes? Saw your shot into the sun on that pier thing in hawaii where people were jumping into the water. Great exposure there!
Love my M6 Classic! If you use the metering, be sure to keep spare batteries (multiple) on hand. I also take the battery out whenever it's not in use. The M6 relaunch version doesn't t have the battery drain issue I don't think. Enjoy!

For the longest time the MP was my dream camera. Since I wanted to shoot a Leica and still afford to buy film I went with the M6. Found a new old stock so basically unused on eBay for $900. Many years later, I finally got an MP from Ken Hansen (RIP). Long story short, I sold the MP (to fund an engagement ring 😭) and kept the M6 and had the viewfinder upgraded by DAG and never looked back. Even though I’ve been longing for an MP I felt more connected to my M6 and gave me the same experience and results that’s why I kept it.
Another awesome video. It's hard for me to shoot people so up close. Maybe it's the city I live in, where people are just not that comfortable having people take up-close street photos.

Bought mine in 2013 (and customized everything about it because it was truly special to me that being the three digit in the serial is my birthday), and was strictly shooting film for literally everything I do. But with second kid now, I had no choice but switch to digital (X100V, during the pandemic, and before the hype). I did initially want to jump into digital M, but just no way. Early digital M's with problems I rather not get my self into, and new ones way out of budget. The way things are nowadays with the prices of film and body, it's just insane to jump back into film. I'd wish though!

Did you walk from Union Square to the Embarcadero? I know you have done photos in parts of Golden Gate Park. Maybe explore some other parts. Have you checked out the Buffalo in the park, assuming they are still there. Maybe there are some interesting areas in the Presidio you can check out. Maybe you have done so before, but I don't remember you checking walking the Warf and down to the beach.
Whats your take about buying film nowadays? I just got back with Bellamy Hunt today that the sale of film in Japan is now harder to find and prices have gone up really high now. Film supply is dying quicker and quicker these last couple of years and most people just can't justify the cost. Most people have either moved to digicams or using fuji systems. Is there any reason for buying a film leica anymore? P.S. I used to own hasselblad(s), Leica(s), Mamiya(s), and a bunch of nikon SLRs which are all sold by now. I've downsized to only a Nikon FT2 just because it's cheap, classic chrome body, and the weight and texture feels similar to my leica M6.

Trying to decide if I should get a Leica with or without the light meter. MP, MA or M6. How often do Leica users use the internal meter? Thinking it’s just one more thing to break.
Light meters are neat, but not having them really makes you get into the shot more. I’ve got a Praktina FX with no light meter, and it’s a blast to figure out the right exposure with the original Zeiss lense with manual reset. But then I can bounce right back to my ol’reliable Pentax k-1000 and not worry about it. Depends on how much you want to get into it.
