    Not believing in mutual abuse is a dangerous rhetoric as not only can abuse occur regardless of power dynamics (especially when it comes to physical abuse) but by not acknowledging the complexities of abusive relationships it further emboldens those who almost never believe in women.

    This victim game is very dangerous. There is a story about a boy who cried wolf. These ladies remind me of the chapter in Black Skin, White Masks on Mayotte Capecia.

    Mihlali lost me with her very PR staged video, why stage a video and dress like that if your telling the truth? This women on the show is talking crap, if a woman accuses any man of abuse the man gets arrested, we all know this, why do people think people don’t listen to women? That’s nonsense, let a woman accuse you of rape and you’ll see

      Power dynamics played a huge role in this. A white person abusing at the workplace is not the same as a black person abusing a white person. There will be more outrage if the white person does the abuse due to the racial power dynamics within the SA society.

    Honestly speaking gender based violence is not specific to women only.. Men also experience abuse...
    Sometimes you really need to look at it and be non-biased
    You cannot charge at someone and expect grace men or women.
    If you gonna start a fight, you better finish it

    Misogeny and patriachy seem like two lenses of a pair of binoculars through which this conversation is being viewed. Was it impossible to address the fact that the powerful woman at discussion is possibly lying, hence she is a victim of such retaliation from the public?

    • @thecavalieryouth
      @thecavalieryouth 14 дней назад +5

      Misogyny and patriarchy are the exact things that make it so that we immediately jump to question if she is lying. We never seem to question if his version of events is true. The reality of this country makes it so that the likelihood of this having happened to Mihlali is a lot more likely than not. There's not much there to say she isn't a victim of abuse. But because she's not a perfect victim, she then isn't a victim at all. She needs to meet every last criterion for acceptable victimhood, but if he doesn't meet even the one strict requirement for being an abuser, he's absolved of the harm he's caused.
      All we ever do is fail women in this country and constantly point the finger at & blame her for the abuse she endures.

      @@thecavalieryouth it is simple. we are South Africans, and gender-based violence is a reality that implicates us in many ways. Situations like this happen so often, with so many different people, that we don't need a dictionary to see and understand what is going on in this particular situation. The retaliation to the accussation is more likely caused by the practice of observing and deciding, than misogyny and the other one.

    Yall are biased, this discussion is made to protect Mihlali's image and not openly analyze what the truth might be for both parties. Unworthy to be watched, thus won't watch the full thing.
