    “ to err is human” and oh have we all erred my friend. You made me really laugh when you had to trim back the bearers, not laughing at you but remembering my own cock ups. You are doing great and we look forward to future episodes as the Viking masters the measuring tape. Thanks again great stuff.

      Yes, overbuilt is the style of this boat (and all the Fisher-boats).

    I never thought I would see myself, except for the voice, renovating a boat on RUclips. Measure once, cut three times, is my mantra😢. I empathize so much with you as this is how all of my projects go. Even to the point of forgetting that I have a better tool. (Or, more likely, not being able to find it😮). But soldier on! The end result will be your creation! Hopefully a positive one😊.

    • @hsobstad
      @hsobstad  Год назад

      Haha! I believe I can measure 10 times and still get it wrong. Or - as this time - forget to think about on more thing that should be measured (the width of the flywheel house). But that is what restoring a boat is all about. Two steps forward - but one step back.... ;-)

    Hello Helge! As some of your other viewers have mentioned, I am also thoroughly enjoying watching your videos and of course your humour! I'm sure all of your viewers would also admit to making mistakes as part of any project - especially with boats. Hang in there my friend. When you are done, the satisfaction you will enjoy will be worth the effort. In the interim, dust yourself off and have a beer. You've earned one or more ;-). I will leave you with a quote; “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” So says Ratty to Mole in Kenneth Grahame's classic novel 'The Wind in the Willows'.May 11, 2016 🙂

      Thanks, Duncan, for repeatedly giving kind complements on our work. And the SuperThanks, of course!
      Can you imagine...Taking a hand saw and just starting to saw, coupling out the brain, not considering the fact that I have electric tools that could do the job way faster and with less energy-absorb for me.
      I am sure you are right. What comes easy - goes easy. "Earning" the boat over time will may be give a longer lasting pleasure, using the boat. (Though I must admit I am nervous about that time, that I will be disappointed in the boat. I pray I will not!)
      Quotes! I love them. And this quote is so to the point. :-)

    I have to tell you, I am really enjoying this project. I love the style of the Fisher and your sense of humor matches mine.
    Yes, crazy summer weather here too. We are in drought conditions, heat wave, forest fires you name it. Finally got some much needed rain yesterday and today.
    Last episode you said where you lived, well of course I had youtube explore the area. What a beautiful spot in the world to live. I started following another Norwegian fellow, he basically uses his channel to be a tour guide in Norway. Beautiful.

      The western part of Norway, from south and all the way up to the north it mindblowing and worth a visit....if you can live with the weather. May be sun, it may be rain, might be warm (not hot) and it might be cold. Who knows? Not the weather-people...! I love to live here and are very "climatised" to what we have. It´s like fall, fall, fall and then winter. But no droughts and heat waves. No (dangerous) sharks and no bad snakes and spiders. Give and take ;-)

    Given how complex engine to shaft alignment is, it is a lot of work to "dry fit " the engine before glassing as compared to glassing and going "oh shit"

    • @hsobstad
      @hsobstad  Год назад

      I tend to believe too much in my skills and go the "oh shit" way. Will probably happen this time too... :-)

  • @Naturallystated

    I have been in your measurement shoes as well! I have learned to make templates rather than rely on my "expert" measuring skills! 😉 You should make a lightweight frame template of your engine connection points and wide areas so you can test fit without having to lift the engine.😰
