You’re such a fantastic teacher!! I’m a retired teacher and I never cease being amazed at your teaching skills. What a contribution you are making to the world.
I used to sail a lot and often observed the water and wondered how on earth artists captured that movement.... Now 25 yrs later I have found the answer. I feel so indebted to you for your help. I just wish I had been as observational as you way back then! Many thanks,
Dianne this was so appreciated. I have struggled with colour reflecting on water so this was a great tutorial for me! If you could ever do a vibrant sunset with red, pink and orange reflecting on the water that would be wonderful!!!!
Another brilliant and instructive tip on an absolutely essential subject. Thank you Dianne for this bit of painting wisdom you have presented so clearly.
Thanks Diane for an amazing tutorial. The explanation regarding perspective and vanishing point on the water helped me a lot! I've purchased some of the tutorials from your site and worth every penny. They are clear, instructive and very helpful
It is my belief that training our eyes to acutely observe to the greatest extent possible to us is key to masterful painting just as a masterful musician trains the ear to hear nuances in sounds and rhythms..
I really couldn’t see how the colors you were using could get to the water I see in the reference but at the end it was getting there… I feel like I see a darkish blue green but the blue with the orange can give that effect…. Thanks
Good question, Linda. Actually, I could have used oxide red because it's a low saturation version of red orange, therefore chromatically has blue in it. Either will work.

I'll put that one on our filming schedule. It might surprise you! Thanks for watching.
Yes, I agree, it was helpful to see you break it all down!
😊

Thanks and especially for plugging my tutorials from the website. I am always delighted knowing my teaching is working.
You are teaching observation and the "magic' of painting. Thank you!
It is my belief that training our eyes to acutely observe to the greatest extent possible to us is key to masterful painting just as a masterful musician trains the ear to hear nuances in sounds and rhythms..
Thank you so much Dianne. This is very helpful. The brushwork technique is also what I was missing.
Ah! Great. Helen Van Wyk's teacher told her that you can paint with a broom if you know what you're doing.
Not "location, location, location," but "observation, observation, observation!"!
Right!
Thank you so much for this. I have always overdone the water and ended up with a muddy mess....
A good principle to follow is to put it down and keep moving forward.
I really couldn’t see how the colors you were using could get to the water I see in the reference but at the end it was getting there… I feel like I see a darkish blue green but the blue with the orange can give that effect…. Thanks
Try watching on a larger screen.
Thanks for your patience., Dianne.
My pleasure.
Thanks again for this instructive video, water was my enemy subject in painting, now it could become my friend, thanks to you
Always a pleasure.
Thank you! I live painting water 💦
You’re welcome 😊
I am curious about why you wouldn’t darken the orange with its complement, blue, rather than darkening it with the oxide red....
Good question, Linda. Actually, I could have used oxide red because it's a low saturation version of red orange, therefore chromatically has blue in it. Either will work.
Thank you Diane, as usual you're a TERRIFIC TEACHER!!!
Ah, thanks.
Thank you so much Dianne, great lesson,I wonder what is the medium you are cleaning the brush with? does it have any smell ?
Thanks
I use Turpenoid for rinsing my brushes. It is a refined odorless mineral spirits.
Thanks
My pleasure.
