I need a 8 GPM tankless unit with all the showering and laundry that is going in my house. I looked at one sold by Lowe’s and for the electrical it requires 3 double pole breakers 50 amp with 3 dedicated cables all 6 gauge copper. Also the house needs 300 amp service from the electrical company and I have only 200amp on my panel right now. Sad moment.
Would have been nice if u explained how you hooked up the common and hot wires to the same breaker ?

Hey Darvin nice video.....it be really cool if you did a video on "how to tap into circuit breaker" video from like (Ex.kitchen or garage) where you would need an extra power.
If you want instant hot water get a 6 gallon or 10 gallon Rheem 120 Volt hot water tank and connect it to a recirculating pump after the on demand water heater this way you will have instant hot water, and if you have issues with the on demand or the power goes out you can still power your whole house with a 3500 Watt /120 volt generator, or a 120 volt Solar System. Ive put a meter on the Retex 13 & it pulls 54 amps.
Im thinking my inline carbon filter messed up my flow switch, so Im going back to the white filters.
mine stopper turning on after 2 years to this date. the led comes on but only when you turn the knob. When I turn on when the water. My guess is the flow meter but I don't know how to check it.

Just bought a rheem rtex-13. I'm not getting any hot water. Brand new install. No errors, nothing. Any suggestions?
Consider insulating your distant hot and cold water lines to solve the temperature problems. Also, I recommend R-30 batts in your attic which I installed in my central Florida townhouse in 1991 so that now my average electric bill is ~$43/month. My unit is comfortable without A/C downstairs. I use ceiling fans and open windows at night. In your case consider a swamp cooler instead of A/C.
My water lines are insulated. Here in Phoenix we have to do it so we don't get scalding hot water in the summer from the cool side. It only helps a little though.
I saw your attic. You definitely need R-30 batts. Construction people frequently have a huge surplus which they stack in their attacs so ask any construct friend before buying.
@@Eusebeia7 Yeah. last year I sucked all of the insulation out and did blown in and batts over the areas that have plumbing and electrical. It's definitely getting another layer just haven't gotten that far yet.

Thanks for the video. I have a question for you: Which one is better in cost (upfront, installation and running )? 1. conventional electric tank heating system 2. One big tankless electric water heating system or 3. Mini-Tank Point-of-Use Electric Water Heaters at multiple points (2 in bathrooms and one in kitchen for dishwasher and sink).
Mini tank systems are meant for Low use. Like a half bath or sink to wash your hands. They don't have the volume output for high flow like showers and bathtubs.You could do 8kw tankless at the point source like a half bath or kitchen but you need at least an 11kw for a shower. .
Tankless electric, you will have issue in within 2 to 3 years and when you take a shower and lower the water to keep from running, it taks a while to heat up again, in the winter it gets inconvenient,had two of them,bad experience,going back to the tank.

Im curious why it wouldnt be code to run 6/3 wire on a 220 application especially with a 60 amp breaker? That being said I noticed the internal of the water heater only accepted 1 hot instead of two as well. That confuses an idiot such as myself. Lol. Nice install though

That measly carbon filter wont stop your hard water. You need a water softener. Your water is similar to Floridas. Best set up for your system is line in to house-> then whole
Home filter-> then water softener-> then hot water heater. Otherwise you will get scale build up
After watching several tankless gas water heater now i debating on a electric tankless 🤦🏻♂️ can someone help me choose the right one. Installing is not an issue for either one

As a plumber I can tell you have hard water you need to install a filter in front of that water heater line or you're going to end up with that same gurgling in your tiny little heat exchanger which will officially plug it up trust me from experience

Never seen a 120 V electric water heater in the US, it's very rare. Neutral vs Hot in the USA only applies when 120 V, since your using double pole circuit breaker there is your answer.
I believe you should have added a pressure release valve and two clean out valves to descale your unit every year or two. That will prolong the life of the unit. Just my two cents

In our pole building (shop) , all that I plan is to use PEC, but no shark bites, just clamps. I am bringing water in from meter, but no copper in shop. In the past (40yrs ago) I always used plastic pipe, but am being told to use PEC now. Is this OK and how do I hook this up?
You could totally do it. Just get Pecs to copper adapters The pipes coming out of water heater need to be copper to seal correctly. Just a few inches of copper tubing on the inlet and outlet then a pec to copper adapter.
Your unit has the black load line "L" installed on the right and the white neutral line "N" installed on the left. On the interior housing of my unit it is stamped exactly the opposite in that the "L" is on the left and "N" on the right. How is yours's stamped?
It's a 240 voltage water heater, no such a thing as Neutral vs Line.

I got this water heater, but I have 6 gauge wire with red, black, white & ground. I only see a spot for ground black and red. what do I do with the white?

What’s the size of your home panel 200amp? Did you have to have the electric company upgrade the feeder line?
Just 125amp service. No upgrades. This heater is pretty efficient.
Thanks for the vid, I'm going to get the Rtex 11, I know everybody has an opinion, but you should protect that 6 gauge wire coming in, not sure code and if it can be in conduit, but anyway. Appreciate the vid! Also, not sure why you are stating your rating wrong, your model should get over 3GPM.

My question is do you live in America? How you get it to work. I don't know enough yet but US outlets are obviously only 120v. Even with a 60-100 amp breaker how do you get 240v to it or do they make 120v models?
Yes in the US and to get 240v takes 2 breakers or 1 double breaker.
Just installed the same one for my mother. Didn't realize it needed 60 freakn amps😭. Now I have to install a sub panel for her

What size is the service to your house -100amp did any breakers trip when the dryer stove and hot water unit we’re running
125 amp and no breakers tripped. This is on its own breaker.
13kW needs 40A breakers. 8 gage wire would've been fine

I've been researching for an 11kw unit ... and it still needs larger than 40A & 8 guage wire.
Albeit I might could get by having to reset the 40A breaker once in awhile for my unit.
But the video poster couldn't .
However breakers ran close to their limit regularly become soft , and I would likely have to replace it every so often.
I know this video is 2 years old but I just had this installed into a “tiny” home and for some reason it’s not working properly.
The water never gets to 140F, it only stays warm for a min before going cold and then warm again, and then the bath tub faucet does not get warm at all.(the valve is all the way up) any advice? I have the exact same one as you.
It sounds like a bad flow sensor or there is too much flow. You may need to install a restriction to slow the flow down.

Either one will work. It all depends on the distance from your water heater to the tub. More than 16ft of pipe then go with 13kw. If it's less then get an 11.
Curious to know after 2 years how this electric tankless is holding up
so far so good. Its now my ex's house but I showed her how to flush it last week.
Making it flushable was a very good idea. I have the same unit. I'm on my second one because the first one failed. The heat exchanger sprung a leak and Rheem didn't honor the warranty. I'm now troubleshooting the second one because the temperature shoots way high while I'm taking a shower.
Did you ever figure out how the dial keeps moving on its own?
Not really sure but my theory is resistance in the old element.

Obviously your down south somewhere because that pipe with the filter wouldn’t last one night in the winter here in the northeast.
I put the 18kw in my house and we are on a well pump and it does not work it throws a E5 code which means the flow is to high but we have horrible pressure because of the well pump so I don't see how anyone can use a 13kw for there home..
Maybe your well pressure is set too high.
I had one of these installed about 6 months ago, but now I'm getting lukewarm water instead of hot water what could be the problem?
If you have hard water then you may need to flush it with vinegar.

You BETTER get an electrician out and inspect what you did.
Depends on your total service amps for the whole house. You are not to exceed 80% of your breaker. So if you only have a 100 or 150 amp service you might be exceeding it.

I think it would have been easier to put it on the wall right where you took out the old water heater, water already there you would have just needed to add our power.
I think if you are using black and white wires for your 240V connection, you are supposed to put a couple wraps of black tape around the end of the white wire to clue future repairmen that it is not a neutral conductor. Also, I have seen sharkbite connectors pop off, particularly when applying pressure to a line that had no pressure. Maybe they are OK if constantly under pressure.
When the future electrician turns the breaker off they will know it’s not a neutral with a 2 pole breaker
This leaves all the details specific to the Rheem 13 out and just tells how to run things in his house.
Dude your breaker panel has a bit of rust in there. That is no bueno. You are getting some moisture from somewhere. That shit needs to be sealed up. You are going to get electrocuted touching that thing or eventually get some arcing and cause a fire. That should be top of your priority list my friend.
Yeah that box is 40+ years old. No actual leaks. just looks rough from being outside. The main is being moved to another wall so it will all be replaced.
Why did you switch to a small electric tankless instead of gas?
Gas in that house was very expensive. switching to electric saved $40 a month.

You should install a fire sprinkler in your utility room it’s honestly not that hard and pretty affordable you just buy one online and hook it up with some copper pipe and fire sprinklers are not that expensive they run around like 10 bucks on Amazon

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

That breaker box is not code gross and exposed romex.
I was told that a tanks water heater can not be install on a older home with aluminum wire.
I would run new wiring if you're planning on it.

Won't you pay more using electricity instead of gas to heat your water? Then again if it's only for warm water not for heating your house I guess it doesn't matter that much.
Compared to gas it will cost 10$ more a month but mainly because my wifes showers are 5 min longer

@@cowlumbus Anyone who uses shark bites or has any experience in the maintenance field knows that an O-ring seal isn't going to hold especially not like copper. No one is hating on pex. Everyone uses pex but not SBs.
