  • The HDPlex 300 DC-ATX PSU is one of, if not the best option for small form factor power supplies. It is the upgraded version of the older HDPlex 250. I took a look at how it works.

    Another great thing about these PSUs is that you can couple them with internal AC adapters also sold by HDPlex and eliminate the need for an external brick. They're going to release a 300W adapter to go with the unit in your review some time in Q1 2017

    G-Unique Plug-N-Play is another option over the HDPlex 300 as the modded 330w Dell power brick is included with the G-Unique for $110-120 or so.

      You could go even smaller with a Node 202 and AIO. You would have a bunch of extra space if you used the HDPlex in there.

    yea those cables do need to be custom sleeved as they are SUPER long for a Mini-ITX case... so glad I'm sending my HDPLEX300 over to Josh to get it's cables sleeved. I should be getting it all back along with my S4 Mini once he's done with the work on the HDPLEX, S4-mini, and the 1080mini tests. Here's hoping the ASUS z270i STRIX and 960EVO-250GB are out before then so I can finally start my build!

      Tek Everything Yeah I'm sure Josh's cabling would look amazing all sleeved and cut to length in an S4 mini. Also, no release date yet but I suspect we're close. Late Jan to early Feb was the reply from ASUSROGUK's twitter a few weeks back. So if they were right I'd expect it to release within the next 15 days. I've been checking amazon/newegg almost every hour I'm awake for that z270i. I'll be sure to post about it on the SFF forums right after its out and I snag mine. 👍

    Hey great video thanks for sharing. I plan on pushing the boat a little would this thing power a xeon at 145 watt plus an aftermarket 1080ti at around 240 watt. In the description it says handles 400 watt peak would this be enough for that setup?

    • @Tekeverything
      @Tekeverything  7 лет назад

      I would test the system power draw at load with a standard PSU first. The Dell 330W power brick you would need may be underpowered at load. I suspect you would see around 320W-350W at load, but obviously you would have to test it to see. There are also ways to modify that power brick to deliver 400 plus watts.

    • @garythmardellis1289
      @garythmardellis1289 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply I think I will invest in a device to measure power draw off the wall and test the setup first to be safe, as for modifying a power brick not something I have considered as my knowledge of electronics is pretty bad, but as you mention it I will look into that, more than one way to skin a cat that's the motto of this business, thanks again mate for the feedback.

    Looking into upgrading my rig within the next 3 months, I really like the idea of having an extremely compact system capable of running everything I throw at it in 1080p with ease, my current setup is a i5 6600k running at 4.4Ghz and a stock speed Zotac GTX1060 with 16GB of 2133Mhz RAM, I'm looking at switching to a i7 preferably a 7700 (non-k) or a 6700 with a GTX1080 mini from Zotac (if it's small enough to fit) or a GTX 1070 mini, along with a 5TB Seagate 2.5inch HDD and my pre-existing Samsung SM951 M.2 SSD and my Samsung 750 EVO 2.5inch SATA SSD, my question is with the above mentioned highest spec configuration (if space allows) would I be able to power it all from the PSU in this video (under-clocking components if needed) or would a GTX1080/i7 7700 combo or i7 6700 combo require too much power? I'm looking at either the NFC S4 Mini or the Logic Supply MC600 as the case for it all and either an Asus Z170 Impact ITX motherboard or a Asus Z270i Gaming Motherboard for it all?

    • @Tekeverything
      @Tekeverything  7 лет назад

      You can actually run a GTX 1080 with a 7700K off of an HDPlex 300 and Dell 330W power brick. So a 7700/6700 paired with a 1080 would be a really nice and stable system. You shouldn't have to underclock anything.
      The MC600 is really really small. I have both cases, and I wouldn't recommend putting high end components inside of one unless you modify it. I also don't think there is a 1070 or 1080 that would fit in the MC600.
      The S4 would be a great option. People are already trying to squeeze the Zotac 1080 mini inside of it. The 1070 will fit, while it seems the 1080 may require some modification. smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/nfc-systems-s4-mini.96/page-80

      Thank you for such a swift reply, it is greatly appreciated, I shall check out the forum post you have linked and hopefully find out more information from there, As someone who has never built a Mini ITX System run off of a HDPlex PSU with a Power brick before do you have any tips or links to places where I can find information on that? I have built 3 Mini ITX Systems before plus my current system in a M-ATX and then ATX form factor but I feel like so long as I have enough USB Ports on the motherboard and a compact form factor with a really good GPU I will be sorted, just want to make sure I cover as much as possible before shelling out a lot of £££ on my new PC, Many thanks again :)

    So essentially, these things act as half of the total output in comparison to standard PSUs? So, pairing the HDplex 300 with a 330 power brick would be akin to having a 660w SFX power supply?

    • @Tekeverything
      @Tekeverything  7 лет назад

      No, with that setup you would have around 330W of power. You can run most single GPU configurations with 330W. You really need to plan your build before you buy one of these.
      There are also ways to modify some of the bricks to output higher wattage.

    So if I have a computer that will need at most 400W should I get the HDPlex 300 or should I try something else? Also would I need a bigger power brick as well.
    I don't actually know my full power draw but it is at least 265W and I plan on upgrading in the future.

    • @Tekeverything
      @Tekeverything  7 лет назад

      What components/case are you using, and what are you planning to upgrade to?

    • @teamrabbitalec
      @teamrabbitalec 7 лет назад

      Case is custom (need to create a CAD model of it) MiniITX MoBo, i7-6700, my 960, a few WD Blues (2 at least), 16g RAM. What I plan on upgrading to is some more recent Nvida GPU. I might get a 10xx or wait for something better to come out from Nvida in the future.
      Thanks for your help

      A 6700 and 960 will pull around 230-240W. You would have more than enough headroom to run that system with an HDPlex 300.

    So I'm pretty new to pc building, just built my first pc last month. Now I want to do a sff in the future and I'm very interested in this HDPlex, but I'm still confused about how this thing can handle a 7700K and 1070. Because added up a system with this combination mostly consumes more power than 300W. How does this work? (again I'm new to this)

    • @Tekeverything
      @Tekeverything  7 лет назад +1

      Real world power draw is generally significantly lower than people think. How did you calculate the power draw?

    • @The1024Dutch
      @The1024Dutch 7 лет назад

      I put some parts in a list on pcpartpicker haha. I mean I know this is not accurate, but the thing is, I just don't understand the difference between the estimated numbers on such websites and the actual power draw. I don't know how to judge what would be a realistic number. I asked some friends and they also told me that it would be fine, but I still don't understand why. Tried to google it and tried some other calculators but they all came to 325-330W in total. I'm a little bit lost here.

    • @Tekeverything
      @Tekeverything  7 лет назад +1

      Those power estimators usually dramatically overestimate the wattage you will be pulling with actual system use.
      For example I used the Cooler Master load calculator, and came up with 254W load, and 304W recommended.
      In real world testing I have yet to be able to push my system past 193W at the wall.
      They give you conservative estimates to help you make a decision. That's all.

    • @The1024Dutch
      @The1024Dutch 7 лет назад

      Alright, I will take that in mind in the future. Thanks a lot dude! You really helped me out here!

      Yes, it will work with pretty much any modern motherboard. Just make sure you get a power brick capable of handling whatever load you decided to push through the unit.
      Also they are only selling the upgraded HDPlex 400W unit now.

    • @junny97008
      @junny97008 7 лет назад

      I'm running an I5-6600 and an inno3D GTX 660 6gb.
      But how could a 300W support both the cpu and the gpu?

    • @Tekeverything
      @Tekeverything  7 лет назад

      That is a 150W GPU paired with a 65W CPU. Even with both running at 100% utilization you wouldn't break 250W. You would have more than enough headroom.
      Think of it as a regular PSU, just smaller and with an external brick.

    • @junny97008
      @junny97008 7 лет назад

      The point is to run full power components in extremely compact cases. Power bricks come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. They can also be placed/mounted virtually anywhere. My current PC is console sized but runs an i7 and 1060.

      you don't buy a GTX 1080 and get the base mode(180w)l, everyone goes for the FTW or Classifieds(220-270w). Also a normal *base model* GTX 1080 would only work with a intel's cpu T models like the 7700t, 7600t, 7500t. Which are 35 walts. Any decent build with a180W GPU and 65W CPU wouldn't work with a 300W PSU.
