I'm a east coaster who LOVED Biggie's music but I must admit, Cube dropped his very first album and I played that shit til the tape popped. We forgot how impactful Cube was. He truly did mold the West coast. He is the FIRST pioneer of the West. Easy Died, and Dre isn't a rapper. It's Cube. He's right
Being from NY i can honestly say I'm a cube fan biggie made history but not much of a biggie fan just being real.

You bugging 😒
@@1tuffzx10 🤔......Last time i checked, Ice Cube was apart of NWA. Along with Dr.Dre.. They pretty much started gangsta rap.
So what rapper wasn't influenced by NWA in the 90's?...
I agree with this statement. Cube and eazy set the trend. People like 2pac and Scarface picked up the torch and influenced a lot of people east, west and south as well
Most people forget, at one point of time Cube was the greatest rapper out. At one point in time there was no rapper bigger than ice cube. People forget that.
says who...its all a matter of opinion.....all of this
@@bobafett317 At one point Cube was probably the most popular rapper in the country. He was huge all throughout the 90's but the early-90's saw him drop 3 classic solo albums right out of the gate. Even before both The Chronic and Doggystyle came out. 2Pac was doing good but it wasn't until his 2nd or 3rd album he really started gaining popularity. Then Cube drops the 'Bow Down' album with WSC which made him even more popular. People all over the country were throwing up the "W."
@@butchvito probably and was is 2 different things. Cube is an icon for sure but has never been the best rapper...ever. Again, its a matter of opinion, Not fact. This dude is entitled to his opinion just as Yayo is as well as you and myself.

Facts, Cube was incredible at his peak. That peak lasted years as well. Very underrated due to time passing and things changing. But some of us were def there.
Big Facts. I'm from Buffalo and I remember besides KRS-1, Cube was the only Rapper who made you think that wasn't a weirdo. Pac did it, but you can tell he was inspired by Ice Cube. My Pops used to be in the Kitchen smoking weed listening to those white Farrahkan tapes and I used to pass by but the information didn't really settle in on me mostly because I was like 9-10 years old at the time 😂. But when I heard that Predator album as a kid Cube brought everything full circle. So no Biggie who was a better "Wordsmith" was nowhere near Ice Cube as a Lyricist and a Storyteller.
PS. "Summer Vacation" was the obvious inspiration for "Every day Struggle" my favorite Biggie song.
Every summer in the 90’s Cube was droppin new hits.
As a rapper ice cube is trash compared to biggie. Impact wise maybe ice but skill wise biggie is better and had less albums and time so big gipp is wrong here you can’t compare them
Cube had one dope solo album. Kill all that other shit you talking. Why you think his ass got into movies?
Biggie had Cubes blueprint to work from. Thats like watching Isaih Thomas and saying hes trash because his style doesnt look as advanced as Kyries handles. Cube was a top emcee in the era he came out in lol

I think most, including Big Gipp, are missing the actual question. They’re asking who is the greater RAPPER. Not better Artist, not better lyricist, not better career. Biggie is the better rapper. His style of spitting was so melodic and flowed with the music almost like a singer. His inflections, his accentuations, his tonation. Then he showed when he rapped with BTNH that he could switch styles but so keep his signature on it. Big is the better rapper.
And for context I’ll put it like this Rihanna has a better career, more hits, and is a bigger star than Jazzmine Sullivan but Jazzmine is the better singer.
We confuse sales with talent. Personally, I don’t really care about hits I care about actual talent.
I love Gipp but he totally missed the question lol

I MIGHT agree with you , biggie could flow. But body of work up until 97 (biggie death) imma say cube
That’s a good point of view. I think that the best anything is a combination of of all things tho. For example, Brady probably wasn’t the best at anyone thing or skill but a complete body of work.

Absolutely. People should be able to distinguish between socially conscious content and street gangsta content. It's the same with Pac and Big comparison. Tupac will always win because he had political and social content, while Big, though talented, was not socially conscious. Ice Cube is closer to Pac than Big is so similarly, you can't compare Ice Cube with Biggie.
I agree with your statement. I got Pac over Biggie because Pac wrote about multiple topics and subjects, he was multi lanes when it came to his raps. Biggie for the most part rapped about the same things, money, drugs, and mafioso stuff, which at times he was 🧢 about just to make his rhymes sound nice.
@@moe-cy3xp so let me get this straight when Big talked about things don’t change about how kids from the hood have changed throughout the years from the 60 to the 90s being disrespectful state parents in my street if you listen to the lyrics or missing you talking about how losing his best friend and also facet of living in the streets will cost you it was done to family and friends or suicidal thoughts committed suicidal record that’s not most multi fascinated for you enough. Salute to #BigGipp for always Repping The Real. As a born and raised New Yorker and Hip Hop lover. I also know #IceCube was a better rapper and lyricists than Biggie. I like Biggie music too, but as 👑 Gipp just said. It took Biggie first album a minute to pop. Why is that? 🤔🤔🤔

Better lyricist u sound foolish
Ready To Die had shipped 2 million copies and was Double Platinum by 1995, a year after the album came out. It didn’t take a minute to pop. “You can be the best at rapping about drugs, but that dont make you better than kendrick lamar who can rap about life” Thank you gipp!!! Thing i dont like about the hiphop audience is ppl act like we have to all agree on whos the best but art is subjective. What one rapper does for you might not do it for me
Kendrick Aite I think J.Cole better
@alexheredia9108 shit up
Art is indeed subjective but talent and skill level certainly are not. Andy Warhol paintings may be worth millions but no one would ever suggest his work is in the same class as Leonardo da Vinci or Vincent Van Gogh.
Someone raised in Florida is more inclined to listen to Plies or Kodac Black rather than J Cole or Meek Mill but to say plies or kodac are as talented as these other two would be preposterous. They may be as accomplished musically, but objectively speaking, they're not as talented lyrically. A person's preference will always be subjective in nature, talent will always be objective.
Kendrick is trash
@@chosen_remnant whos to say they arent talented lyrically because they didnt hit the marks you feel they should? Clearly they do for somebody.
The problem with your point is there is no tangible way to measure good lyrics.it always just comes back to a feeling and a vibe which is subjective. You can say one used more metaphors but that dont mean ppl wont “perceive” those metaphors as corny . You can say someone told a good story but shat about the listeners who just want something catchy with a good flow. Different strokes for different folks.
Now if you wanna talk about cultural impact i think theres a better argument to be made for that. Lyrics arent like a piano in which we can measure the chords scales notes and intervals to determine the difficulty and skill level of the pianist. Lyrics are just whos saying what with a delivery that resonates with ppl at the time
I agree 💯 Biggie only had two albums to compare him to any rapper but I loved both of his albums and I'm from the south
I like Gipp interviews, but he is arguing 2 different things. He's talking greater and bigger vs better. At their peaks as rapper, I'm okay if you say Big was better. Plus with the reasons he uses for Cube being better, he better just say Jay is better than 3000 with those reasons. Just saying
This is really about where you lived. Biggie was that dude. And to be revered the way he is after 2 albums is amazing. Biggie wrote for others too and they blew up. Biggies skill is better that Cubes, but Cube was able to accomplish more.
Biggie flow is better ice cube ice cube lyrics story telling mc is 100 better then Biggie
I agree with ppl idk just got this thing with hating ny niggas
No lies told, if you know you know. Sad part is that we never got to see the full potential of Big with such a limited body of work. He was getting better & better, I mean the growth from Ready To Die to Life After Death was insane...lyrics, production, finding his vocal pocket (pre-album & Ready To Die he was still yelling into the mic giving him a different vocal sound), could collab with any MC & never get outshined, etc. But Cube's body of work is a different monster & his body of work speaks for itself, Cube literally check's all boxes you would want from a MC. They both share a lot of parallel's, being the pen's behind group's/rappers (Cube..NWA, Eazy E..etc./Big..Lil Kim, Puffy, Jr Mafia..etc), both having classic album's (both also have a Source 5 Mic album which is still credible to a lot of fans), both have timeless songs, both were clear cut icons of their coasts...the list goes on. Can Big outrap Ice Cube? He probably could but when we talking about ranking the whole body of work has to be considered. I mean Big L could outrap a lot of the great's, but I wouldn't put him in front of LL Cool J on a ranking system.

Really, I was even listening to Outkast and Goodie Mob on Fulton Street in Brooklyn. You shouldn’t feel disrespected at all bro. Personally, I think Project Pat is the best story teller but that’s just my opinion. Lighten up fam it’s still all love at the end of the day. Now with that being said, who do you consider to be the greatest story teller rapper?
You can tell Big Gipp is very intelligent It takes a cat as such to see the many different ways how someone can impact a industry Of course Ice Cube is
I totally agree with Gipp💯
what is he talking about. Ready to die took off immediately and was bigger than Ice Cube first album sales and hit-wise.
No it wasn't America most went gold the first month 😂
No it did not. Stop the bs.
Biggie was wack!!!! Tupac him have with hit em up!!!! He shut him up lol
@@mallyg3125 It was released in May and went gold in August; that's about 3 months. Ready to Die came out in September and went Gold in November; that's 2 months playa.
@@gabrielcortez2793he didn't, intact it took his career to another level 😅
EPIC! This was simply EPIC! Salute to GIPP for keeping it all the way 💯
How is Biggie in the same conversation with cube, smh?
If both Cube and Biggie had only released their first 2 albums… Cube hands down all day! To me personally Death Certificate is like the West Coast’s Illmatic.
💯
Tripping
I think Amerikkka's most wanted is better than Death Certificate
@@MrWoo-jc8nt That's HIGHLY debatable. I favor Death Certificate. I can understand the argument for Amerikkka'z Most Wanted tho.
I think Doggystyle should be mentioned somewhere in that convo.
Gipp said it perfectly…not to mention the Storytelling!!! “Once Upon Time in the Projects” to “Friday” …Cube Pen wicked
My Summer Vacation was tuff too!
Don't forget about how to survive in south central!!! And ghetto vet.
Dirty mack, Don't Trust Em', I gotta Say Was Up!
Did ice cube write Friday
@@thinkingoutthebox7253 yes(movie wise)
Not saying Big is better than Cube. But I feel like ppl using Big like a piñata rn. All I see is constant slander. It’s always the “he didn’t do enough” narrative. 2 albums (and 1 double cd) is enough. Why? Bc when we mention the goats and their classic albums there’s only 1-3 albums per rapper in tht convo. Big got 2 classics. Just like most of everybody’s list.
I agree with Tony Yayo
No disrespect to OG Gipp or OG Cube
I’m happy that there all talented and successful in there own individual ways.
Was cube in the streets like biggie was? Cube blew up because of NWA but biggie didnt start off in a super group.
I concur. Biggie left a short but great legacy. But Cube is still somewhat still laying his legacy down which exceeds just rap. And people need to stop ranking. It's ridiculous when we already know.
Ludacris is better then Cube
The conversation is about music, not legacy or any of that other shit. It's about lyrics.
@@jamescummings6703 Aren't these dudes pathetic? Lol It's sad
@@jamescummings6703 Cube is still above Big. Skill wise though, Big got Cube beat.
@@matthewj23 Troll harder
And to think… ppl laugh at me when Ive had Cube in my Top 5 for years.
Ppl don’t wanna give Cube props because he started making wholesome non-gangsta entertainment. But that just goes to show how deep his pen goes. From hood to Hollywood. You can’t compare that to a man who died at the height of the BEGINNING of his success.
It's your opinion nothing wrong with that...
Naw Cube's quality of work just gradually fell off after Death Certificate.
@@fakethuglife🧢🧢🧢🧢
gipp really used the BIASED, like he don't hate all nyc artist
Im a firm believer in quality over quantity if Biggie wasn't killed who knows what he could have accomplished
Big dropped one classic album and he was dead when it came out 🤷🏾♂️
Because of the quantity and quality Cube trumps BIG
@@BigPhillBABYtvTwo classic albums, you mean.

Ice Cube also had a hand in YoYo's career and her first album "Make Way For The Motherlode" is a hip-hop classic!
And Biggie had a hand in Lil Kim's career and Kim sold more records than Yoyo, made more hits, and is in everybody's top 5 of women in rap..Every point y'all making for Cube makes no sense whatsoever

Big Gipp speaking Facts !!!!!! Somebody need to recognize
Big Gipp speaking facts. I agree with him.
Gipp been showing major West Coast love in his interviews, much love back.
Atl fw the west coast esp the bay Oakland n Atlanta is cousins
@@trapmuzik6708it’s Bronx week in Atlanta tho
Gipp showing much east coast hate. Cause same criteria he stated that makes Cube so great he won't say the same thing about Jay-Z.
@@MrWARBUCKS24 we fw ny too Bronx week is transplants we have a lot of new Yorkers here
Ready to Die shipped 57,000 units in its first week of release.[20] However, it was then certified Gold by the RIAA only two months after its release on November 15, 1994. on October 16, 1995, only a year and one month after its release the album was certified double Platinum.[
I believe that gipp is biased against eastcoast rappers, specifically Ny rappers.
Take Em to School!!! Cube was hittin in 88 with “Underground”music that was NOT Played on Radio!!!! Cube is who made me like Rap/Hip Hop…storytelling & talking about what seemed like an Unreal Other World to me!!! “Drive by” in Missouri…I didn’t know what a drive by was…Cube is a Goat who paved a Way for Even Tupac my all time favorite ❤️ ♥️
Gipp cool but he tripping just because someone lived longer doesn’t mean that person is better. The fact Biggies first album started off bad and then became a classic says a lot
If that's the case stop saying Jayz the best. He just rapped longer

Maaaaan let me tell you somethin. CUBE was the FIRST Mc to start jackin for beats on an album. Hence the name or hip hop slang term "jackin for beats".... CUBE did alot and brought alot to the game and kept elevating til this day.
Cube started this gangsta shit!
Gipp please come to New York City.. we waiting for u country boy.. You on New York City nuts
GIPP is right ,Cubes chronology is too deep. Cube has classics from the late 80s. GANGSTA GANGSTA, BOYZ IN THE HOOD, as well as his classic solo shit.
It doesn't matter how big Cube albums weree in comparison to Big. Big rapping capabilities were just better period. Cube flow doesn't come close to Big's and I'm a musician that's like comparing a Folk guitar player to a Jazz guitar player. I do agree Cube gave more game in his raps and didnt just talk about being fly or street shit but Big to me just had a better cadence in how he delivered what he was saying.
Brooklyn keeps on taking it
Biggie is a better rapper
His formula was and is phenomenal
Biggie 2 Albums are classic.....hard to make 1 classic yet alone 2
Life after death seems more like a puffy album. He picked all the beats and features and just had biggie put verses on them songs for majority of that album.
Cube got like 4 classics.
Cube has way more
Cube got at least three with his signature on it
Before you say shit like that. Know what your talking about you need to check Cubes catalog
Salute to Gipp and everything he said 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾. Ice Cube > Biggie all time
I respect that people have ice cube over biggie but gipp always gonna go against anyone from ny. He say New York niggas are bias but I bet if they asked gipp is ice cube better than Andre 3 thousand he would pick 3 staks and he don’t have the accolades that ice cube has
Everyone has their own personally opinion. Lyrically I think Biggie is better. Just because I like someone don't mean you have to like that person.
I’m not going to debate who was better I love both biggie and ice cube both had talent as an artist. Biggie was more lyrical and cube was like a narrator telling you what’s going on in the hood. I love both. My favorite biggie story telling song was somebody gotta die, that song was like biggie was writing a scene in a script for a movie one of the best story telling songs I’ve heard.
Same
@Me.CalCal you buying fir them bitter New York cats
In Ice Cube actually wrote a whole movie script in 1995 called Friday biggie will never be on his level
Ice cube is just as lyrical as biggie...
