- This siren is located on Minkler Rd about a mile south of Route 71 in Oswego, IL. The siren is in the Hunt Club subdivision.
The hawk was a very lucky catch!

The reason the windup sounded shaky was because the hawk was making the siren shake and it got the chopper off balance

American signal needs to make the t135 to have a dual tone opio like the old p50 but with a smaller chopper
They're refurbished units sold by Fulton Technologies out of Roselle, so in a way I guess it kind of is brand new. They buy older ACA/ASC units when a municipality replaces them for whatever reason, and totally overhauls them inside and out, then resells them at a much lower cost. These apparently replaced a system of Whelen WPS-4000 sirens in Oswego not long ago.
Nope, this is an Excel T-128 (pre-ASC), hence why it lacks decals and has a brass ID tag on the middle of the back of the motor housing instead of near the bottom.
The older T-128s had problems with the spinning shaft in the horn. It looks like the hawk also made a mess on top of the horn.

maybe it's the lighting but this siren looks a little different than other t-128s..not sure why it doesn't have any stickers on them either

This siren is called a ASC T-128
1988, actually. There are three 2001-ACs (round-back) from 1988 near me, and they are truly AC-powered too (they have RC5s controlling them).
Is this the prototype version?
Hahahahaha! Man this siren had a hard time getting fired up. Other than that, sounds really good. Great video!
Honestly, I am not sure. This is the third siren we took a video of but we have friends who do this religiously. It is an American Signal Comp and either a T-128 or T-135. Judging by the fact that the 128 says it has solar capabilities and there were no panels visible, I would say a 135.
Seems to be that most of the sirens in our area are ASC units. We've been trying to find different makes but so far it is either Federal Signal or ASC.
T-128 has small circled on top and t-135's have big circled on top so it's a t-128
since 1990 ;)

It's still there. I looked it up on google maps at the 2021 time frame.

If you are looking for other makes, head further east, closer to Chicago. Some of the nearby suburbs have Whelens.

How did you trick that bird in perching there at the right moment? You big meanie. ;) Often hacks perch on my 100 foot radio tower But they fly away as soon as I pull into the drive so I have yet to get a photo. Great you where their to get the shot.

That hawk was lucky...being on the outside...have you ever seen birds (apparently who are nesting) in the horn of a T-bolt when it fires up? Momentarily deaf birdies flying everywhere. Hopefully, they gained their hearing back later..

I am glad the Whelens went away. Unless their electronic sirens are set for dual tone, they sound like crap. I remember when Oswego had Thunderbolts! You would think the amount of money they spend in their lighting equipment, they would invest a little more into their outdoor warning technology.
